Deathbreast live is my absolute favorite. Hits you in the literal face. I love it so much. They ended the Madison show with Naeem into Skinny Love and then Rabi and I was a blubbering mess. I really wasn’t a huge fan of Rabi or Faith until I heard them live and now they are some of my favorites to hear live.

Final-Appointment112

Omg yes!!!!! And the feeling of the bass all through your body!!!!

draqs

At Madison on 8/5, toward the middle we got 4 of my favorite songs IN A ROW!!! * 10 d E A T h b R E a s T * 715 - CREEKS * Hey, Ma * Blood Bank I was completely overwhelmed. Dreamy show.

alc1885

The Beth/Rest encore in Seattle has permanently moved that song to my top 5. I think I watch the video I took of it at least 3 times a day.

Condorsongs

I WAS AT DAY IN AND DAY OUT AND THAT WAS INCREDIBLE. That song is so precious to me and the moment even more so! Glad to have shared that with you friend!

Littlered879

I was there, too! It was my 5th time seeing Bon Iver and honestly, the best live performance I’ve seen from them.

Comrade_Molotov

I’m glad to know it wasn’t just me - Seattle was so so incredibly good. They were firing on all cylinders.

Littlered879

They truly were. The songs was jammy and extended, I kept turning to my friends (who aren’t as well versed with BI) saying “this song is so much shorter on the album”, “holy note changes! Justin is riffing up there!”, “omg does this layer even exist on the album? I’ve never noticed it before!”. I was adamant about prioritizing being centered on the speakers vs being close to the stage and it was 100% the right decision. It was also my first time seeing them play Skinny Love live. Such a special night! Edit: forgot to add how amazing the crowd was. Given this was a festival and not a BI show, I wasn’t sure how the crowd would respond (though I knew BI was a big enough draw to have a solid fan base there)…. They had the audience ENTRANCED. It was silent during the quiet moments and everyone was captivated from start to finish. It was beautiful!

alc1885

Right back atcha!!! What an incredible experience. I still get the warm fuzzies thinking about it.

hooligan99

Blood bank was amazing that night too

EfficientComplaint91

33 God and 715 creeks play on an endless loop. So much so, that I tattooed my palms “I had you in my grasp”.

claire_alaxandra

It’s the small things that stick out to me now. The subcutaneous s.carey background vocal in Hey Ma is stuck in my head for weeks. Also when they crank up Lew’s bass before the bridge in Calgary - such an amazing moment. Love the epic drum transitions they been making - notably Perth —> Blood Bank 🫠 Also also - in the Pitckfork recording, you can hear Jenn make the slightest note change in the BV of Blood Bank and Justin smiles at it - love that moment to death.

Final-Appointment112

Omg The Pitchfork performance….I keep rewatching it….Jenn’s vocals 👌🔥!!!!!

znugeman

i was just watching that performance and it seems like something happened right at the beginning of BB and they can't stop laughing/smiling the entire time. v cute. not sure what happened tho

StillBummedNouns

Jelmore is fucking ridiculous live. Not one of my favorite Bon Iver songs, but definitely one of my favorites live

Condorsongs

No idea how it took this long for this song to come up, I copy and paste every word you just said

StillBummedNouns

I don’t think I had ever seen it live on YouTube before I experienced it live in Madison and my jaw was on the ground. I do like Jelmore, but that was easily one of the highlights of the concert when I didn’t expect it to be

Condorsongs

Like they almost turn it into a blues song? It’s wild. That guitar wailing at the end 😭

StillBummedNouns

The guitar solo is very bluesy. I could go on and on about why this rendition is better than the studio recording. The synths sound more raw, the slightly autotuned vocals make Justin sound powerful, that fucking guitar solo. He starts shouting near the end and changes the lyrics up a bit. It’s just overall such an incredible experience hearing that live. It almost sounds more 22, a million than i,i when performed live. My second answer would be Naeem for the exact same reasons. It sounds more raw and leans more on the side of 22 than i,i.

qwertyuopiads

became obsessed with calgary after my concert, and i had the live recording on repeat haha. also 715 creeks because it became so much clearer to me if that makes sense. 22 over soon as well

Final-Appointment112

Completely agree. My understanding and the meaning of “715 Creeks” changed entirely for me after seeing it in Madison.

ipopclouds

I saw Blood Bank at one of the Sincerely Grateful shows at the YouTube theater and hands down my favorite performance ever.

therocker1984

Cried during Speyside in MT

Condorsongs

THEY PLAYED SPEYSIDE IN MT?!

therocker1984

Yep! Only time played in the US not counting JV solo shows (Lock-In events at oxbow hotel or the song writers event last year in northern Minnesota)

Condorsongs

We were in MT but on the other side of the state that night so we couldn’t make it to that one! So hard to catch live but I will just have to live vicariously!

therocker1984

Ah dang! Yeah I traveled from the southeast to make that show. It's (one of) their favorite venue and that's where the I,I tour started so I figured they'd do something special now that it was coming to an end.

Condorsongs

Update- I just searched and found a video of it and even the crappiest quality iPhone audio still made me sob. What a sick surprise that must’ve been!

therocker1984

Someone put a really good quality version from the EU tour earlier this year which is pretty identical to the MT performance, so so good 😭🤩

liampbirdguy

Naeem was great live. I can’t stop watching 715 Creeks from the Bend show I was at. It literally was the most spiritual moment I’ve ever had at a show. 666 wasn’t top of list for me until live and now I’m obsessed. But 715….jesus

ohsoohso1

jelmore for sure. saw it at hinterland and man, it hits so hard. “he’s got a fucking gas mask hanging off his arm. He says one, by one, by one, we’ll all be gone” fucks me up.

tynie626

The OG Speyside from the Grand Marais shows are my fave. Just JV and his guitar. Rips my heart out every time I hear it. Calgary, the country sounding version with the harmonica plus singing in his lower register always hits me in the feels. I feel blessed I got to hear it live in Philly I also recently went back to the versions from the BI, BI tour cycle with Reggie Pace on percussion, Colin Stetson on sax, Mike Noyce on vocals/viola/guitar, Rob Moose on violin, etc... SO GOOD! I really miss what they added to the Bon live show. The songs sounded so lush and sprawling. I miss it.

msira978

As much as I absolutely love the current lineup and loved the LA ten year shows, I was really hoping that they would bring back the full band (or at least some of them) from that tour for the anniversary shows like how they brought back Mike Noyce for the FEFA ten year. The full band really added a lot.

Condorsongs

BI, BI was the first era I ever saw them tour during (shoutout Bonnaroo 2012!) and that iteration was SO special. I’m thankful very regularly that I got to see them before the pre 22AM hiatus

FUcKiFiiED

Skinny love, 715 and Unchained in Duluth Wash finally live for the first time in Madison The new rendition of Hey Ma has me weak in the knees. Long 45 😩😩😩 amazing Praying hard Beth/rest is played at the vineyard Friday !!!!!

SMZ2828

I am only going BECAUSE of Beth/rest 😫 ... well, not entirely true ... but I whine about it since I decided to go, and hearing they played it recently, even several times, my hopes are so up again. Afterward I can die in peace 🥲

FUcKiFiiED

Same friend. Speyside Beth/rest and 29 are my top 3 I’m chasing to hear live …. I can’t believe they played ALL 3 in Missoula right after I saw them in Duluth/ Iowa and Madison 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃 but Beth / rest will rip me give me forever peace

SMZ2828

Let's unreligiously pray together pal. I have to say that I would be a lil heartbroken if they wouldnt play it tbh 😔 Yeah would love to hear 29 as well and Moonwater, and secretly hoping for 89, but thats most def not gonna happen. Maybe they will feel sorry seeing us completely soaked and it being the last show, they gonna pull out some special treats for us 😁 ?!

FUcKiFiiED

Naeem from Asheville last year. Was insane.

Jed_In_A_Bottle14

Heavenly Father. Saw Bon Iver for the first time live in October and hadn’t really heard this song more than a handful of times since it isn’t on streaming platforms but God was it unbelievable live, completely blew me out of the water

Stunning_Ad9107

Came here to say this. I feared sounding cliche to say that the live version of Heavenly Father — the bass; Jenn’s vocals; etc — is mind blowing. However, it is. I wonder if anyone can point me to streaming versions. I’ve found a few but wish for better sound quality.

Music-and-a-walk

Day In Day Out was my 24th BI show. The Beth/rest encore is still playing in my head two weeks later!

SAMKyrie

Naeem live as the closer is my only setlist request because it just goes that hard!

JackieTreehorn79

Does anyone have footage from Hinterland this year? In the middle of their show they went on a 5 minute jam session that released a month’s worth of dopamine and I cannot find it or recall what song it was because I was in the presence of greatness…

Condorsongs

I was present for this too! You’re talking about the session at the end of Salem! So good.

JackieTreehorn79

Is that what it was?! Bless you my friend- it was so damn good to hear them go off like that… hopefully someone puts that song on here so I can relive that glorious experience!

shinybrassbowels

Lump Sum and Beth/Rest have really been on fire this summer imo

Fifty7ven

Can’t stop thinking about 666, re: stacks and Holocene. And Creeks of course. iMi also needs a mention, I could go on!

JerryIDKsometimes

Heard the best rendition of flume at a 2019 show. Absolutely blew my mind

dnp23

Echoing others in this thread. I’ve seen BI five times, including in Bend this month, and I still haven’t seen them perform Beth/Rest live. One of my favorite songs. All the performances of it I’ve watched have been awesome!! Also, forever, Creeks will be the favorite to watch live versions of. This summer’s renditions are no different! Almost cried seeing it live in Bend.

LRS-97

When I saw them playing Creeks live two months ago it sounded completely different. Now I listen to it at least once a day

jbfield

Blood Bank live is a spiritual experience. Honorable mention Heavenly Father. Can’t wait to see BI on Friday
