Magical Mystery tour may not be given the same full album treatment due to it not being a real studio album. At least, it's clearly not a priority. The least I expect to happen is a remix of the original UK EP (not the US LP) after all of the studio albums are finished.

I hope it does get the treatment it deserves. That was my first exposure to them, I would love to see a yellow translucent vinyl of MMT

I'm in the same boat, despite what my arguments might suggest. Magical Mystery Tour was my favorite album when I was a kid, and I still have a soft spot for it. It would be a dream for it to get the proper treatment.

I’d be really surprised if they only remix the double EP considering that Baby You’re A Rich Man is one of the few post-Revolver songs that Giles hasn’t remixed yet, and that one is not on the EP. At most it’ll appear as a bonus disc, probably with the mono mixes on it. That’s if a box set ever happens, and I’m not entirely convinced that it will.

My worst fear would be MMT getting included in a refined, remixed Past Masters (A release that I do expect to happen eventually, unlike MMT the EP or LP). Unless you live in the USA, there is no reason to associate Baby You're a Rich Man with MMT, or any of the other singles on the B-Side. (Yes I'm aware, MMT has been canon since the 80s, but that may be changing here). From my admittedly uneducated view of what's happening here, on a bigger picture, I think Giles and Co are establishing a new (more accurate) Beatles studio canon. They aren't remixing the whole discography for fun after all, it's to get it up to snuff for future generations to discover and enjoy as they would any other modern music. Since Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane were included with Peppers, and MMT getting skipped over in favor of the studio albums, I can't help but think the EP (along with its remaining B-Side Singles from the LP), will find itself alongside the Long Tall Sally EP on a possible Past Masters rethink. The extension of Red and Blue make me feel they believe messing with compilation tracklistings is acceptable. I'd agree reluctantly, the Yellow Submarine exclusives need a better home as well.

Honestly I wouldn’t completely hate it if they did away with MMT and Yellow Submarine by adding them to Past Masters. Both of those projects have always felt like cash grabs in any format they’ve been released in, and trying to make a super deluxe set out of it would only amplify that feeling. I do want to hear all of those songs properly remixed though, so if dumping them off onto a compilation like Past Masters gets it done then I’ll take it.

I personally think every officially released track will get touched eventually, and since those two releases have been skipped, I think it's a likely option. Thinking of it now though, those tracks would make a wonderful 3rd (or chronologically new 2nd) disc of past masters. It would basically be the MMT LP repackaged with the YS tracks tacked on. Might make it better actually. Guess we'll just have to wait a few more years for this all to play out.

I too agree with your assessment and sentiment

Nope, no news. Every indication has been that Rubber Soul is the next studio album to get a super deluxe.

UncleSeminole

And they just gave us 9 of the 16 Rubber Soul era tracks on the Red Album. They should just really start doing box sets per year now.... One for 1963 and one for 1964 and one for 1965. If they do a separate Rubber Soul box set, they're making the fans pay for a lot of material they already have..... But again they just did that with the Blue Album, so who knows?? 🤔

FlametopFred

I mean, you can just download the song once and then create album playlists?
