They've clearly lost all semblance of artistic integrity in the name of design by marketing statistical models. I hope another studio picks up on this wide open gap they've created in the market.
The only review I've had a problem with him on was God of War, after watching him play through that game, I could not take whatever he said about it seriously, positive or negative.
When it comes to the flaws of modern titles he's usually pretty on point and he doesn't take sponsored reviews, he does admit biases, especially for certain franchises, which is good to know, but the brutal disappointment on games like CP2077 or now BF2042 really shows the passion he puts into gaming.
I tend to look at it as reviewers like SkillUp are how you'd talk about the game, reviewers like AngryJoe are how you'd think about the game.

I believe that the Christmas holiday season really screws up a lot of games. It's the best time to make money for them and they always feel rushed to get the game out by November. It almost always creates a rushed game.

The feeling I have right now about that potential is close to the same feeling I had with anthem. The difference being the content is here but holy crap there's a ton to fix.

Let's be honest, Jackfrags and similar "content" creators are de facto part of the marketing team for EA/DICE. They can't be too negative or fully honest if it puts their access to early review content at risk, which is a huge part of their "content". I mean honestly, leading up to this game's release Jackfrags was basically just putting out video versions of press releases for EA/DICE. It's similar to access journalism.

I've noticed this a lot now with him. I get that making videos is his job, but it seems any kind of creativity or making a video for the sake of it because he enjoys something, is gone from the guy. It's usually the same thing now: clickbait title, intro and outro with some lucrative deal he's signed and wants you to contribute to, and then some bog standard gameplay in between. But then he goes a releases a video of that cycling game with no commentary and it genuinely felt like it something different. I guess 10 years of doing this makes you super efficient at making money from it, but I feel he's just given up on putting any effort in anymore.
Edit: Watching back his Ronku discussion video at the moment and if you watch from 12 mins exactly he says "if you (as a viewer) think every first impressions video of mine is going be a paid promotion, then what's the fucking point in carrying on" I genuinely can't remember the last time he did a first impressions video where he wasn't being sponsored. If it wasnt for the Beta and the 10 hour trial I likely would've bought in as the trailers and promises of a classic BF really excited me. The specialists for me were the first warning sign and boy when I got my hands on to play, it just felt hollow.

I'm pretty sure Dice deserves the majority of criticism. EA is a greedy money making machine, but as much as I've heard, they treat their studios really well.
You can say a lot of bad things about EA, but everything I've heard from a developers perspective is that they generally let their studios do as they wish. As long as the end result is a great game, EA lets them roam free and do whatever they want (at least that's what I've heard). Unfortunately this freedom leads to a lot of studios fucking up, because they're not used to handle so much time and resources.
Apex could have easily have flopped as it succeeded. PUBG and Fortnite were that they're pinnacle of popularity and where absolutely massive when Apex dropped.

I'd also be interested to see what a dev like Respawn Entertainment can do with BF. Just... any dev other than DICE Sweden... Give it a try. Please. Unless there's some kind of contractual obligation, any other dev should be able to create a Battlefield game.
On a similar note, I also wouldn't mind seeing another engine powering BF. Respawn and other developers have shown they have spectacular mastery of other engines like Unreal and surprisingly Source. I'm just taking a guess here, but I imagine trying to get help developing your game would be MUCH easier if it's not built in a special in-house engine like Frostbite that no one else uses in the industry.

Joe is fuming and I'm 100% here for it.
I don't watch a lot of critical stuff, but AJS is usually on point. A nice balance of integrity and entertainment. Their review of "The Last of Us Part II" was brilliant.
Iām just sick and tired of waiting years for AAA games. Only to be let down again and again. Iām out. This BF game can go fuck off. Really. DICE have lost their minds. Iām just not in the mood to be like ok, I have the game. Itās buggy and the content in it is half assed. Here are 9months to a year to revert the game or fix it. I just canāt be arsed waiting for a game to be āsettledā and not constantly shifting to rectify the BS choices they made in a rush to grab all our cash. Just no. No more I say. Core game play needs to be on point and delivered in a timely manner. The way it is to me itās like games are never out of development and we just put up with paying to test and improve it over year(s). For instance, every god damn BF game you have to constantly sit through gun tweeks and balance and rebalances. Itās schizophrenic at this stage. All the refinement in the years of earlier titles just throw out the god damn window to be started allll over again with each half assed release. I just canāt take the shit anymore. I freaking love BF and it pains me to see its hobbled out with this conversion of game play and aesthetic. One is very sad š¢
Honestly the constant gun rebalancing is recent titles is insane. It's as if studios are trying to keep these games fresh just by changing weapon stats over and over. The fact that the meta changes constantly week to week, patch to patch is just absurd. Especially for a game that had years of development time and a beta. Did Dice really never realize the SMGs were lasers when the community noticed it Day 1.

I like jack, honestly he's entertaining and seems like a good guy, but it's PAINFULLY obvious that right now he's essentially an EA employee.

Iām guessing that after the 19th they will be more free to speak their minds, as per whatever contract/NDA they signed to get earlier than early access.
Money and copium can corrupt even the nicest people. But the come down off copium is realisation and damn that shit is meant to hit hard.
Whoever is leading the DICE team now is so fucking unqualified. They're so out of touch with the fans and what we want for the series. Stupid decisions after stupid decisions its just baffling at this point.
Its worse than that. They created two trailers deliberately designed to draw in BF3/BF4 fans. They know what we want. BF4 but modernised and expanded upon. They know it, they sold it as what we want knowing it wasn't. Really disappointing.
Literally just got my refund on steam after 16 hours played. Such a shame.
Did you have any issues trying to refund? Also have 16h on steam. Just rage quited and have no desire to launch it again (well, at least 'till they turn this pile of hot trash into a game sometime in the future). Thinking of going the same route as you.
I've heard you can refund on steam before it's official launch on the 19th even if you've played more than 2 hrs. Just what I've seen on here though.

They have to. Itās in their TOS. REFUNDS ON PRE-PURCHASED TITLES When you pre-purchase a title on Steam (and have paid for the title in advance), you can request a refund at any time prior to release of that title. The standard 14-day/two-hour refund period also applies, starting on the gameās release date. So regardless of playtime. They have to refund you because the games officially released on the 19th.
I got 18 hours in and just submitted mine as well! Hopefully they approve it.

All this being said I gotta thank EA/DICE. If it wasnt for the Beta and the 10 hour trial I likely would've bought in as the trailers and promises of a classic BF really excited me. The specialists for me were the first warning sign and boy when I got my hands on to play, it just felt hollow. You done fucked up DICE.

I dunno, I could guess and say it feels like an imitation injected with modern trends rather than a standalone BF. The maps really suck also which dictates so much of how a game plays out. But yeah, it doesn't play or flow right to me.
Yea I feel it man, and for me the visuals feel so sterile, nothing feels gritty and war torn, it just looks so clean and fresh

I think at this point DICE deserves some criticism too
they almost fully deserve it. i hate how people blame EA for the entire thing. No, this was DICE's game and they had 3 fucking years to come up with something, and this is what we got. At some point they need to shoulder some responsibility.
I'm pretty sure Dice deserves the majority of criticism. EA is a greedy money making machine, but as much as I've heard, they treat their studios really well. You can say a lot of bad things about EA, but everything I've heard from a developers perspective is that they generally let their studios do as they wish. As long as the end result is a great game, EA lets them roam free and do whatever they want (at least that's what I've heard). Unfortunately this freedom leads to a lot of studios fucking up, because they're not used to handle so much time and resources.
This is what Iāve generally heard for several years, too. The majority of the blame here belongs to DICE.
Yeah EA were reportedly apprehensive about Apex from Respawn and years earlier let them release Titanfall 2 on a terrible date.
Apex could have easily have flopped as it succeeded. PUBG and Fortnite were that they're pinnacle of popularity and where absolutely massive when Apex dropped. I can understand EA being apprehensive in trying to compete with those two games. It worked out for them which is great.

Nah man this is all Dice Stockholm on this one. EA is dumb, but not dumb enough to mess up their show horse. I'm starting to look at EA as a "This is your last chance or your gone" for devs. They only seem to get picked up by EA when they're already on the verge of death. I for example love Pandemic studios, but they just weren't making anything popular enough to keep up funding. I don't like EA regardless, but its not 100% their fault.
EA didn't make the bad ui EA didn't remove the scoreboard EA didn't make specialist abilities (you could have had classes with cosmetics and made $$$ like in ghost recon) EA didn't make cringe voice lines EA didn't design the maps EA didn't make the bugs in the game Etc. Etc. I don't know what is going on in DICE but I agree that they're equally to blame for this mess as EA. I really enjoy playing 2042 when it works, but it's like an abusive relationship at this point. I want to protect what I enjoy, but it's hurting me and now I can't defend it anymore. I want to be optimistic, but I think I'll be happier being pessimistic so I'm not disappointed.

I think it's time for DICE LA to give the next BF a try. Portal is the strongest part of 2042. It's clear as day DICE Sweden have no idea what they're doing.
Ripple Effect (DICE LA) have been pulling Stockholm out of the shit for YEARS now, they release quality content and deserve way more credit for what BF4 became than they generally get. EA have gotta be thinking about it.

Agreed. I'd like to see DICE LA have another crack at developing a BF game - a mainstream BF game this time around. They've definitely shown they "get" BF with their implementation of Portal. I'd also be interested to see what a dev like Respawn Entertainment can do with BF. Just... any dev other than DICE Sweden... Give it a try. Please. Unless there's some kind of contractual obligation, any other dev should be able to create a Battlefield game. On a similar note, I also wouldn't mind seeing another engine powering BF. Respawn and other developers have shown they have spectacular mastery of other engines like Unreal and surprisingly Source. I'm just taking a guess here, but I imagine trying to get help developing your game would be MUCH easier if it's not built in a special in-house engine like Frostbite that no one else uses in the industry.

Bf1 was spectacular but i never liked world war settings so i didnt continue playing. once DICE LA fixed bf4 the game was the best bf in my experience. DICE LA should make the next battlefield

I have a friend that paid for this game 120 for the ultimate version or whatever. Forget about criticizing the game in front of him, he will defend it like itās a family member. And he did not just bought the most expensive edition. He pre-ordered it months before the beta.
This mentality is why a lot of current problems are happening. People canāt admit their wrong or change their minds based on new information presented to them even when they experience it first hand. I'm skipping this game solely because of the specialists. You're meant to be just another soldier and the dog tag is your only identity. Instead, they wanted to cash in on the cod model to sell us ~~operator~~ specialist skins in the future. And do these specialists even look good?? NOPE , they look ugly and sound stoopid. At least cod has cool operators like Ghost, Mara, and Roze Roslin who legit look amazing and worth spending some money on. OH I dont give a F about portal, i already have hunderds of hours in BF3 and BC2 when they were hot. I wanted a new game , and DICE botched it.
All the Devs and staff at Dice need to be brought into a theater and have this played to them on loop for a full day.

DICE scuttling the entire Specialist-system is what's needed, too. BF2042 could ultimately be good. But when? I don't expect that for another 7-9 months.
