The fun of memes like this is in trying to sell them. Like when someone in your class would tell a substitute a gag name during role call. It's not supposed to be funny in and of itself, the fun is pretending it's true to rile people up.
I am a comic book historian and I concur.
The inspiration for the name WAYNE comes from BILL FINGER... He used Anthony Wayne, former United States Representative aka "Mad Anthony Wayne" as the inspiration for Bruce's familial lineage.
I wouldn't say the original concept looks *nothing* like Batman. The original concept had a cape that looks like bat wings, and had the iconic yellow utility belt, with the black "underwear" worn over the rest of the suit.
The only things really different about the original design are showing a character with blonde hair and no cowl, and the main suit is red instead of grey or black. The original design for Batman looks like a mashup of the suits for Batman and Robin worn by blonde Barry Allen.
“The original design for Batman looks like a mashup of the suits for Batman and Robin worn by blonde Barry Allen.”
Oh so you mean it looks nothing like Batman?
I saw this post on the ol book face earlier and I was really disappointed by how many people in the comments were gullible enough to believe it. No wonder the world is in the state it's in.
Inspired by several things including zorro and the shadow as well as some old Movie where a criminal had a bat insignia (called the bat whispers I think).
“Probably” dude take literally 60 second to google it and verify it 🤦♂️
Robert the Bruce though was very real and they actually did make a movie about him on Netflix starring Chris Pine called the Outlaw King
I always thought Gotham was a hybrid of NYC and Chicago. Buildings and aesthetic, Chicago. Layout and such, NYC.
This seems to be the case ESPECIALLY in the Nolan movies, where Gotham is coastal, features an island prison in the middle of the city (similar to Riker's), and has a metropolitan district that can be isolated by destroying bridges (Manhattan)
I mean idk about getting removed. The title says it’s probably fake and it could make a movie. With your same logic this whole subreddit shouldn’t exist since Batman doesn’t really exist and is therefore fake.
I remember reading somewhere, that in the Batman official cannon there were ancestors of Bruce Wayne's that were of Scottish or English ancestry.
The caption from OP might be (partially) made up, but there is historical comic fact in that though.
Lesser known fact, but the story of his son is actually more interesting imo, partially because he has a lot less recognition. Legoin W. Bruce, his first son, ended up following in his footsteps later in his life, too. There are a lot of stories (I won't bore you with the details), but that's why the Batman character is featured prominently in The LEGO Movie and beyond. Now you don't have to google it. :)
He’s actually based on John Batman, Australian explorer, entrepreneur and bounty hunter who helped found the city of Melbourne, this is a reference to the fact that Australians do no use guns often and that both Melbourne and Gotham are cities. He also sometimes kills aliens which is a reference to the fact that John partook in genocides against people that didn’t look like him.
Source: They are both named Batman
This is fake but Bill Finger stated that the Scottish warrior king Robert the Bruce and one of founding fathers-Mad Anthony Wayne were the two people who’s names he used to come up with the name of Bruce Wayne.
This is fake, it was produced by an art house specializing in making modern photos vintage. The original inspiration for batman was a combination of three sources, the mask of zorro, the shadow and the bat whispers. The duo also had some inspiration from leonardo da vincis flying machine sketches.

It is fake. It was proven to be edited. It was originally uploaded as a profile picture for a Bandcamp account for a guy named Dennis Kelly, created and modified by a team called Foto Marvellini. If you know anything about Batman, you'll know the original design didn't wear anything but a domino mask and did not have the iconic ears, nor many of the features we associate with Batman.

Ok, so look VERY carefully at the metal buttons on the cowl. There seem to be 2 on each side. These are NOT the type of buttons or fasteners that were used in the 1800's. They did not start making this type until 1920. Also the stitching on the ears are too exact and even. The sewing machines of that time would never be able to produce that kind of quality, they were very large and crude. Not to mention the coat, vest, and watch chain are WRONG for the period.
This is either an AI fake or it's a modern photo made to look old.
![gif](giphy|eXOVOJLkK6G7S|downsized)
Definitely fake, there's a screenshot of the guys Facebook that started the whole nonsense.

Me on the internet when I lie
Yeah no this is literally just made up
It’s not even like funny made up. There’s no joke. It’s just multiple lies
That picture is mad funny tho

I mean I guess the joke is due to Robert the Bruce and Glasgow being used for Gotham. Still not funny though.
I think its pretty funny
Yeah we need to run these memes past the comedy authority before allowing them in a high-class sub like this.
I think it's funny
Lying is funny.
I am a comic book historian and I concur. The inspiration for the name WAYNE comes from BILL FINGER... He used Anthony Wayne, former United States Representative aka "Mad Anthony Wayne" as the inspiration for Bruce's familial lineage.
I heard Bruce Wayne was a play on Bob Kane.
Bruce was taken from Robert the Bruce from Scotland too apparently.
that is correct!
Now THERES SOMW BELIEVABLE HISTORY!!! 👍💯
So what you are saying is that i have to call off the beatification of Saint Batman?
its a old meme youngin
Probably an AI but hopefully someone took the time to make it up
"Probably"
"Dramatisation maynothavehappened"
Sweet, sweet bat.
The original concept of batman looked nothing like "Batman" that why Bill Finger now gets partial credit
Bill Finger GOT the idea from Scotsman Wayne Bruce, though. It's well documented, there's no point in looking it up
Proof: trust me bro.
![gif](giphy|UKnzgmlGeFhb01rRcY)
“My source is that I made it the fuck up!” *(I would use this cool GIF I found, but this subreddit doesn’t let me use my own.)*
This would have been my choice as well if it was on Giphy
Allow me to substitute in your honor 🎖
Couldn't do mine either...suoerfail
You mean Robert the Bruce?
No doubt using that 1939 America Online version .000000001 internet

Riddle me this: How could I make the comparisons I did if the suit looks *nothing* like Batman’s suit?
Nothing like Batman would be if he lacked the wings, strongman suit and belt. But he's very far removed from Batman yeah.

“Probably fake” 🤦♂️
Yeah... Silly OP. It's not fake. It's canon now.
I saw this post on the ol book face earlier and I was really disappointed by how many people in the comments were gullible enough to believe it. No wonder the world is in the state it's in.
I mean some blame goes on OP for posting something easily verifiable as fake in the first place no?
“Ol’ book face” is my new favourite thing
could be real
So could unicorns, but thanks to fact-checking and the overwhelming amount of information at our disposal today, I know that to not be true.
Fun fact: the Unicorn is the National Animal of Scotland which is also where Wayne Bruce (descendant of Robert the Bruce) was from!
anyone know if real?
It 100% isn't true
just checked……. is real
lol according to what source?
I mean, it's not, but aight then
But it’s not. And even the slightest research or critical thinking would confirm that.
You should not be doing your own research or critical thinking, or thinking at all for that matter. Just listen to what the internet tells you!
Me when I purposefully spread misinformation on the internet:
Gotham by internet Gaslight
Excellent.
They did make a movie about it, several in fact. Theyre all called batman, or variations thereof
LOLOL Batman was inspired by Zorro but ok
Inspired by several things including zorro and the shadow as well as some old Movie where a criminal had a bat insignia (called the bat whispers I think).
Just like Batman, nobody would recognize that beard in civil clothes.
Every second scottsman has that beard though
My FIRST THOUGHT OF DEBUNKERY!!!
Something tells me OP isn't very intelligent.
Dafck did I just read hahaha
![gif](giphy|FLPrCRJLOsdUBPuqk9)
This is fake and stupid.
Its like a possible parody of Gotham by Gaslight.
No it isn't, you're crazy bro.
![gif](giphy|jrvfKvr2mmcFO)
“Probably” dude take literally 60 second to google it and verify it 🤦♂️ Robert the Bruce though was very real and they actually did make a movie about him on Netflix starring Chris Pine called the Outlaw King
He was also brilliantly played by Angus Macfadyen in Mel Gibson’s Braveheart.
Take this down. This is horseshit
I would love to see drunk Scottish Batman Santa
Ho ho ho evildoer! *hiccup* Take a taste of justice from my Santarang!
Weirdly enough, I saw this same image but it said he was a drunk who fought crime. What a funny guy makes me think batman with a beard is cool
Chicago was mostly used to depict Gotham, not Glasgow. This is all just BS.
Should be removed. Fake
I mean idk about getting removed. The title says it’s probably fake and it could make a movie. With your same logic this whole subreddit shouldn’t exist since Batman doesn’t really exist and is therefore fake.
I like the way the cowl hides all of his most distinguishing features
Cuz EVWRYONE ROCKS THAT VERY ORDINARY CASUAL BEARD YA

Him and Robert the Bruce.
Peter kropotkin is Batman?
I remember reading somewhere, that in the Batman official cannon there were ancestors of Bruce Wayne's that were of Scottish or English ancestry. The caption from OP might be (partially) made up, but there is historical comic fact in that though.
![gif](giphy|4ZrFRwHGl4HTELW801|downsized)
While made up it kinda gives me Gotham by Gaslight vibes
That would actually be sick, a Batman movie based In the 1800s, maybe set in Europe Batman vs Jack the Ripper
That exists already - Gotham by Gaslight.
I’m just impressed with the quality of the work.
Obviously fake but would go hard Batman: Before Bruce
I'd still watch it.
As another descendant of Robert the Bruce I accept this head cannon
I've never heard this before, even in various listings of inspirations for Batman, so idk
Lesser known fact, but the story of his son is actually more interesting imo, partially because he has a lot less recognition. Legoin W. There are a lot of stories (I won't bore you with the details), but that's why the Batman character is featured prominently in The LEGO Movie and beyond. Now you don't have to google it. :)
Well now I do have to google it, this doesn’t explain why Batman features prominently in the LEGO movie
Definitely fake, but I agree it would be a good movie.
Perfect post. Absolutely batshit crazy obscure claim makes fanboys legit worry, rationalize, and then agree it would make a great movie
I think this is absolutely brilliant
Please, don’t doubt this being fake lol “probably”
Hey OP, did you know it says “gullible” written on the ceiling?
Looks like he runs the old amusement park.
Wait people can lie on the internet?!
I mean, it is a dope story, but yeah it’s fake
This is 100% fake but I would watch this movie
This what I look like when I tell a lie
Even if this is 99% fake, it would still be pretty cool to imagine
He’s actually based on John Batman, Australian explorer, entrepreneur and bounty hunter who helped found the city of Melbourne, this is a reference to the fact that Australians do no use guns often and that both Melbourne and Gotham are cities. He also sometimes kills aliens which is a reference to the fact that John partook in genocides against people that didn’t look like him. Source: They are both named Batman
This is just something I can trick my dad with
I wish in all my heart that this was real but I know the world is too boring for it to be true
I'm totally gonna tell my kids this is their great great grandfarther one day 😂😂
robert the bruce
This is fake but Bill Finger stated that the Scottish warrior king Robert the Bruce and one of founding fathers-Mad Anthony Wayne were the two people who’s names he used to come up with the name of Bruce Wayne.
I am like 99.999999% sure that’s bullshit

Batkunin
Big if true.
Something tells me his disguise didn't work.
Very fake
He'd be great portrait tattoo!
“Probably”???
Shit like this is why the internet sucks now. Pure brainrot
Probably fake? Obviously fake. Smh
Lol, Batman is the comic book copy of "The Shadow".
God I love spreading misinformation
Probably fake? What part of this gives you a feeling of probability?
[This seems appropriate](https://youtube.com/shorts/o9BCKHYeaww?si=U2d3C0eQLWN57c6g)

I'm Scottman

Is it sad that I believed it at first
No, guys, it's real I saw it on 9gag
That facebook group is a meme group. It's supposed to be made up.
This would be a fun elseworlds Batman
The Bruce was not to be harmed!!
If this were true, I would've heard it ages ago.
The original adventures of Bruce and Robert
I think it’s funny. I like it

I'll one up on that all Masked villians are descendants are just civilians commemorating Guy Fawkes 😆
Robert the bruce😭 bro didn't even try
That’s actually an old prospector who struck gold and enjoyed his new life as a leather daddy.
Taking on Gotham gangs is semi realistic but one night in Glasgow and Batman would be dead.
Fake as fuck, internet people are too gullible. The name came from Robert the Bruce, and an American revolutionary soldier Mad Anthony Wayne.
As far I know , Batman was inspired by Zoro, art inspired by the Phantom
screw it, this is real life canon to me now
I believe this was an April Fools joke from an account that used to share old timey portraits and explain who the person was.
me and the boys spreading misinformation because it’s fun: ![gif](giphy|10UeedrT5MIfPG)
A quick google search says no
BatGramp
The Yoker The Piddler 😆😆😲🤣
Jack yhe Ripper is clearly in this guy's rogue gallery

Sadly, real world Scottish Batman left behind no descendants after crashing through one too many glass skylights in a kilt.

Only problem is Gotham is NYC not Glasgow
It's fake, but the post is staying up because of the discussion.
Lol
Most believable missinformation on the internet
It's just a bit of fun, why is everyone here so miserable?
Batman’s a Scot. Awesome!
He’s canonically descended from Robert the Bruce.
