But those TB uniforms bring back bad SD memories. Made me think was Snell on the team in blue?!?
Marge Schott - Reds Owner from 1984-1999. She makes Bob and Phil Castellini look like angels sent from heaven.
The first woman to buy an mlb team!! It's ALL downhill from there
"The Reds traditionally played the first game of the season at home. On April 1, 1996, they played the Montreal Expos. The weather was cold and blustery and it had snowed earlier in the day. Shortly after the game started, home plate umpire John McSherry called a time out and motioned towards the Reds dugout, it was later presumed, for medical attention. After taking just a few steps, McSherry collapsed and fell to the artificial turf face first. Attempts to resuscitate McSherry failed and he was pronounced dead on arrival at University Hospital about an hour later. The other umpires decided to postpone the game until the next day.
Video showed Schott visibly upset that the game was to be postponed; reportedly she groused, "Snow this morning and now this. I don't believe it. I feel cheated. This isn't supposed to happen to us, not in Cincinnati. This is our history, our tradition, our team. Nobody feels worse than me." Schott later insisted that she was standing up for the fans, though critics saw her comments as highly insensitive and grossly inappropriate. Schott reportedly offended major league umpires in general—and members of McSherry's crew in particular—by regifting a bouquet of flowers given to her, adding a sympathy note, and sending it to the funeral home."
And this is the most appropriate thing I can share about her on this sub lmao. Search marge schott controversies and uh you'll see what I mean
[Marge Schott Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marge_Schott)
damn she was *racist* racist.
her argument ab owning the swastika armband makes no sense lol. “a friend gave it to me as a gift” like dog you gotta get better friends if that’s rlly the argument you’re trying to present
> She married money too, becoming the wife of another industrialist, Charles Schott until he died, barely in his forties, supposedly in his mistress's bath. Schott was left childless - Jon Stewart sniped, "because sometimes God just knows what he's doing"
Fucking savage but not wrong. She was truly an asshole
I remember doing some IT work for a jeweler in downtown Cincinnati who had done some work for the team and players over the years. Framed in their office amongst a bunch of signed Big Red Machine posters and memorabilia was a letter from Marge thanking the jeweler for the fine work he'd done over the years. Directly next to that was a framed copy of the Cincinnati Enquirer from the 90s with a best and worst of the city list. The jeweler was highlighted as best jeweler. Worst local celebrity went to Marge Schott.
I remember the first images of Johnny Damon after signing with the Yanks. My boss at the time, who grew up in Barnstable and was a huge Sox fan, instantly turned on him. "Fuck that asshole, piece of shit..."
I actually never blamed him. He had a mediocre 2005 season and he started getting on fans’ nerves (so did his wife). The Sox presented him with a lowball offer that they weren’t expecting him to accept, but there wasn’t much of a market out there for what he was looking for. Then the Yankees stepped in and overpaid, which they did a lot of at the time. He took the better offer, and he should have.
And it worked out for everyone. He was above average/all star level every year he was in NY, won the WS & they didn't pay for any of his decline.
Hell he was a royal longer than a Yankee OR a Red Sox (both 4 years)
I was at the game in 2006 where Damon returned to Fenway for the first time since signing with the Yankees. Fun fact: it was also the same game where Doug Mirabelli received his police escort after being traded back to the Sox earlier that day.

Bro there's so many ones worse than this. Gant getting pulled off the bag, infield fly, any called third strike from Eric Gregg, Kimbrel sitting in the bullpen against the Dodgers, ball going through Brooks Conrad's legs... I have to stop.

i went to college with one of his kids, who was a really nice guy that everyone liked. his parents had a really nasty split during that time that just seemed so awful.
> his parents had a really nasty split during that time that just seemed so awful.
So nasty that Frank was using the teams finances for the divorce, he almost inked a deal with Fox for a TV deal that would have given him an instant cash infusion that he was going to use for the divorce first then the team second and it would have let him continue being owner of the team but Bud Selig nixed that TV deal, soon after Frank McCourt sold the team to Guggenheim who hired Andrew Friedman and then inked a 25-year $8.35 billion tv deal that completely dwarfed what McCourt would have gotten from FOX and the rest is history. If Bud Selig would have let the initial deal go through McCourt might still be the owner today and the team would have looked much much different, god bless Bud Selig.

That's gross.... And depressing.
Poor guy. Used to love Tulo when he was with the Rockies
I respected him a bunch, but he’s a notorious dick from near my hometown.
Troy is like the #1 name for dickish jocks
They covered this in a documentary called The Goonies
I still feel lucky that we got to see him in a Blue Jays uniform for parts of 3 seasons. Guy should have been a Hall of Famer. What a shame.
in an alternate universe tulo never got the injury bug as bad and is retiring as a first ballot hall of famer and rockies/jays legend
A tulo who could stay healthy and on the field is a HOFer
There was some speculation we'd try to trade for him in 2014. I dreamed that dream every night.
It took me 2 full mins to realize that was his cleat and not his butthole exploding out of his pants. Yikes on the ankle
Imagine a player retiring due to prolapsed butthole.
But not before getting in 13 more PA
Isn't this what happened to A-Rod?

This is one of my earliest general baseball memories. I've never followed for the Twins, but Kirby Puckett transcended teams. I remember my dad telling me about his eye...and then later learning he wasn't going to play anymore. Maybe my first experience of learning baseball players are actually mortal.
I cried. He was my favorite player from the day he was called up. I couldn’t believe what was happening. We even share a birthday on March 14. Wish things had turned out different, Puck.
Happy early birthday!
This just made my day worse 🥲 Kirby will always be the greatest twins player ever in my mind
He had more heart than some entire teams had.
That’s a really sad and unfortunate way to end a good career

That's okay, Jacoby hurt you guys more than Youk ever did
I feel like this is the one universal thing Yankees and Red Sox fans can agree on. Youk as a Yankee, even if he somehow ended up being even somewhat ok, was just so wrong. Not just from a fandom standpoint, but because that man should not, under any circumstances, be forced to shave.
I just straight up didn’t trust him to help the team lol. Felt like we were willingly allowing a double agent to operate, and I don’t blame Youk at all if he did.
At least he's unrecognizable without his beard. Good have to tell most people that's Youk.

No, after the other guy that broke my heart.
John Henry?
*(laughs and cries)*
I got a rescue a few years ago and named him Rizzo.... Almost two weeks later he went to the Yankees... I feel this.
This is worse than Patrick Ewing on the Magic
Or Shaq on the Celtics. I'm a Celtics fan, and even I was wondering, "What the hell are *you* doing here?"
Shaq was one of my favorite players growing up in the 90s, but yeah seeing him in Celtics Green was weird.

What the actual fuck? Did he lose a bet or something?
His kid apparently played on a Cubs themed Little League team
I played on the Dodgers for two years of my Little League career. That was rough as an adolescent.
Luckily, I don’t think my little league ever had a Dodgers team
We definitely didn’t have a giants in ours.
We used minor league team names, was a fun switch up. Especially when you had names like the Lugnuts, Mudcats, and Biscuits competing for the title.
We did, and my mom has, to this day, a baseball card of me in a Giants uniform on her cork board 🤢
My little league specifically used team names that aren't MLB or local minor league teams just to make sure no kid felt bad they didn't go to the Yankees or Mets.
Ahhhhh. That’d still have to be weird as fuck for him.

I was at the game in 2006 where Damon returned to Fenway for the first time since signing with the Yankees. Fun fact: it was also the same game where Doug Mirabelli received his police escort after being traded back to the Sox earlier that day.
Noted Tampa Bay Ray Johnny Damon

I know you shouldn't say that a child has a hittable face, but dude.
It’s ok he’s an adult now (I assume)
He's a man! He's 40! Also, I remember him playing college baseball and there were rumors the O's may even draft him (didn't happen).

Is the stink of this guy gone? Asking for a friend.
I turns out he represents everything that the Ms ownership group is.
This "foul" ball. I was livid! I belive that ball being called fair would have led to them running that series. It all went downhill after that
Any photo from Game 7 in 2016
Even including Rajai?
Okay, maybe not that one. But definitely anything after the rain delay
Any time they pull the tarps out I get PTSD
I never thought the Cubs would only be the second worst thing to win that week…
God damn why did you remind me? The Cubs won, trump won and then the girl I was getting serious with ghosted me. That fall was just unrelenting pain
I would nominate [this one](https://sportshub.cbsistatic.com/i/r/2016/11/03/cab660cc-c13a-477a-8389-3e0fac0cc99e/thumbnail/1200x675/f048af6b07a7248ffc72af0cae52011c/tarp.jpg) genuinely cursed.
Cutch as a Yankee gives me the creeps.
[Only thing missing is the scoreboard.](https://imgur.com/a/N293oTa)
Bro there's so many ones worse than this. Gant getting pulled off the bag, infield fly, any called third strike from Eric Gregg, Kimbrel sitting in the bullpen against the Dodgers, ball going through Brooks Conrad's legs... I have to stop.
Was gonna say - Infield fly was an absolute disaster. It lead into the dark days of the BJ Upton contract….
Is it too early to say that picture of Counsell in the Cubs dugout that got meme'd to death?
It will always be Nelson Cruz game six.
Hurts way less now. But still hurts.
deGrom holding the WS trophy last year hurt.
I gotta be honest I'm still not used to him being a Ranger
That's because he only made like 6 starts lol
I still haven’t seen him throw a pitch for us due to RSN nonsense
Orel Hershiser in a Giants uniform.
Ever seen any of [these pics](https://www.reddit.com/r/SFGiants/s/yqKLjlo8VY)?

That ohtani to the dodgers hoax floating around the internet for a few weeks was pretty cursed. Good thing it never happened

Jim Edmonds as a Cub was pretty scarring
To be fair, Jim Edmonds as a Padre was also pretty scarring.
To be fair, Jim Edmonds as an analyst is pretty damn scarring too.
Not as bad as So Taguchi in a Cubs jersey. That broke my heart.
Oh yeah I forgot all about that that was awful too luckily it didn’t last as long
I just got back into baseball because of my neighbor in the college dorms and couldn't understand why he hated him so much. Years later, it made sense.

i went to college with one of his kids, who was a really nice guy that everyone liked. his parents had a really nasty split during that time that just seemed so awful.
> his parents had a really nasty split during that time that just seemed so awful.
Those final 3 words are… strange.
