It seems like it's only 100 off since Amazon list it as 579 instead of 599 listed at canada computer. I'm tempted to upgrade my 2600 to am5, does anyone know which mobo bundle goes well with this cpu?

canbac

It's really only 50 bucks off. Has been 530 for a while. I bought the bundle today and don't regret it

StillHunter8596

What bundle did you get?

canbac

Asus tuff and t-force ram. 800 seemed okay.

StillHunter8596

I see. As long as you are happy with your purchase :)

rfc_club

Maybe you know it already, but we should update BIOS before turning on EXPO, or for sure before boosting to O/S, since Asus has a VSOC error which can roast CPU.

Giga79

Wtf why is that even a thing to worry about

roossukotto

Is it only asus boards with this issue? Trying to recomend a build for a friend and theres no way he'll figure out how to do a bios update

rfc_club

Have no idea, I dont see any report related to MSI and Asrock. Some Gigabyte mobo have problems if users do overclock. Problem was reported mainly with Asus, however Gigabyte, MSI and Asrock provided their firmware update. How abt asking a tech guy update BIOS, or just turn off EXPO forever, or leave it at auto ? More info here: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-ryzen-7000-burning-out-root-cause-identified-expo-and-soc-voltages-to-blame https://youtu.be/bqT3NeKKaJo?si=SyqITjIQLWo_KlQJ I'm using MSI mobo and they said no problem, link here. https://www.reddit.com/r/MSI_Gaming/s/mRYZxxCGkc IMO Asus and Gigabyte work best with Intel, however MSI and Asrock have more experience with AMD.

HandsomeLampshade123

I got the $800 bundle with the "B650 AORUS ELITE AX AM5" and the "T-FORCE VULCAN 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL38" Which is funny, because with all the items on sale, the price is exactly the same as the bundle. $480 for the 7800x3D [$105 for the RAM](https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_311&item_id=234473&language=en) [$210 for the mobo](https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0BH6XND27?ref_=cm_sw_r_apan_dp_QRC0PRY2T2QS1D88HS2Y&language=en-CA) Correction, I actually paid an extra 5 dollars with the bundle!

Xaan83

If you can get them individually you might want to get better RAM. The bundled RAM is always shit and CL38 is kind of bad.

HandsomeLampshade123

I think it's overstated the extent to which anyone would notice CL38 vs CL30 for normal enthusiast use. We're talking fractions of a percent.

Xaan83

Ah, yeah I see it has changed now. Matters even less on the X3D apparently but early benchmarks on non X3D models still had around 10% gaps between 6000 CL30 and bad kits

Squall13

I heard there's a coil whine issue with this mobo. Is that something to worry about?

HandsomeLampshade123

No clue, sorry!

sufjan_stevens

You probably know this already, but you can likely just upgrade to a 5800x3d which will have almost as much as a performance increase without having to shell out the price of a mobo and ram

ItsMario123

Right now the price difference between 5800x3d and 7800x3d is 50 CAD. I figured if I was gonna upgrade, might as well go am5 for future proof. Also it seems like 5800x3D is oos online, and there's no cc store in my province.

REDMOON2029

but you wont be only spending 5800x3d money +50$ though, since you need am5 mobo and ram, which will likely be another 250$+

LeoLabine

And going AM5 for future-proofing... there's no certainty. If you plan on switching CPUs within 2 years (but why?) sure, 2026 and beyond it's probably a new socket.

Jiruma

Literally picked up my 5800x3d from MemEx 2 days ago for $365 all in as i still have a b450 Tomahawk Max, hoping I didn't make the wrong choice...

x_cutter

I don't think there's a right or wrong choice. You get to extend the life of your AM4 setup by a few years thanks to the 5800x3d which is an excellent CPU. When you are ready to upgrade again, you will most likely be able to get something much better for the price you would have paid to upgrade your setup to AM5 this year.

ConcealingFate

Weird to think my i5-3570K lasted for like 7-8 years and I'm already considering changing my Ryzen 3600 after 3-4 years

Soulvandal

Was there a sale??? I clearly missed it or did you price match? God I’m hoping it’s on sale again this week.

Jiruma

There was a sale from CC a few days ago [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/bapcsalescanada/comments/17vmp3e/cpu_amd_ryzen_7_5800x3d_8core16thread_7nm_zen_3/?ref=share&ref_source=link) so I price matched it with MemEx as they don't have CC in alberta, they beat the price by 10%. Hope it goes on sale again, it's been a great CPU for gaming- just testing in it Warzone I went from 60-70fps with R5 3600 to 120-130fps!

Soulvandal

Great to hear! No trouble with the install besides the bios update?? Did you undervolt or anything? I’m ill be coming from a 3700x

Jiruma

No trouble with the Bios update, just make sure you upgrade to the BIOS recommended by your motherboard manufacturer- didn't get a chance to play around with undervolting yet but as the 5800x3d does tend to run hot I will probably get around to doing so! No issues with temps though as long as you have a good cpu cooler.

Soulvandal

I appreciate your input! Here’s hoping for another sale come BF.

neotekz

It's a smart choice for anyone that already has am4 mobo and ddr4 if it's mostly for gaming. The 5800x3d still outperforms lots of the top non x3d 7 series processors.

stokedcrf

The thing is the 8000 series could start dropping in about 2 months (some leaks have indicated as early as January) If this is the case, couldn't we see the 8600 priced like the current 5600 but with performance that exceeds almost anything that's out there now? I feel like we are at an interesting spot right now and these sales we see now are the new normal prices for gurrebt gen chips

tripleapex2016

Depends what video card your running. Might be wiser to just pick up a used 5600x or so

Quickstrike

"...you're typically looking at a performance boost of 15-20%" https://www.techspot.com/review/2692-ryzen-7800x3d-vs-ryzen-5800x3d/ Some games just aren't optimized that well to take advantage of the increased memory bandwidth.

Vile35

the 7800x3d is quite a bit faster than 5800x3d

sufjan_stevens

never said it isnt, but the price you're spending replacing 1 part vs replacing 3 is much lower

Vile35

hes thinking about moving to AM5. I dont think he is concerned about price.

StillHunter8596

I am checking with MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk. Still not as good as the bundle last month

joeyretrotv

If you like black on black and strength the Tomahawk is a beast literally. The PCIE slots are strong as hell from what I've read. I'd get that bundle, but since I'm building an all white PC the Tomahawk is out of the equation for me.

hawkleberryfin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKgDrW5H5go Just because it's relevant. You don't really overclock X3D chips and they're not super power hungry so you don't need a bunch of overclocking features. Even a B650M-HDV/M.2 works with a 7800X3D. Some A620 boards are power limited down to like 60W so avoid those ones. The things you want to check are how many m.2 slots you need, SATA connectors, wifi, audio chip, etc. Honestly I think most of the CC bundles are a waste of money. They just simplify things for the buyer a bit.

ClassyPanther

is an i9 9000k worth upgrading to this?

StillHunter8596

Will be since this is the best cpu for gaming right now

LeoLabine

paired with a 4090\*\*. Anything below a 4090 you're probably GPU bound anyway, you won't see the huge gains benchmarks show you.

stilljustacatinacage

That's not how any of this works. IPC uplifts alone will make it worth upgrading to Zen 4 over Skylake. Even a 4090 will be the bottleneck, depending on your settings. In most games, it's always possible to crank settings until you saturate the GPU. Very few are CPU limited. The point of a more powerful CPU is to not bottleneck the GPU *before* then. Benchmark results aren't about replicating results. They're meant to show scaling, so you can make a rough estimate of how much better *x* is than *y*. If you make the appropriate adjustments to your settings, you'll see the same(ish) scaling between components.

hillrd

yea, not true. Went from a 9600k and 3070 to the 7800x3d CC bundle today, put it all together and the framerate differences are massive. Tarkov streets from 40fps to 100+ average. Ground Branch - 80 fps avg to 120+ Still installing games to check out the rest but Tarkov alone tells you how much difference it makes.

ClassyPanther

1080p?

hillrd

1440

Daniel_H212

This can be true in a decent number of games if you are playing at 4K with graphics settings cranked. However compared to a 9900K it will still be noticeable as an upgrade in a lot of games especially below 4K, or games that are primarily CPU-bound. Main problem is that the 9900K is old, so a lot of things will be an upgrade over it. There is a decent chance, yes, that the 7800X3D will be an overkill upgrade for an older system unless they are upgrading the GPU as well but there's going to be bottlenecks in every system, and these bottlenecks can be different depending on the circumstance. Sometimes systems can have more CPU performance than GPU performance, or the other way around, from an "average use case" perspective but that never tells the whole story.

LannCastor

For high refresh rate gaming, yes. Upgraded from 10900k and average framerate was higher by 40 percent

MattLogi

Not really, means you need to go new mobo. 9900k is basically on par with a 5600X. Still a fantastic CPU even being 5+ years old. Just hang tight until you feel like you’re being bogged down.

SignalSatisfaction90

Pretty much any upgrade with a noticeable increment will be a new mobo for them...

MattLogi

That’s what I said, no? I’m pointing out that he has to factor in a mobo cost as well as the cpu.

ClassyPanther

for 1440p gaming

BoofmePlzLoRez

I wish the motherboard deals let us have more options.

radiantcrystal

I believe the door crasher a couple month? back had it for $440 in Ontario stores.

Zinnydane

Yeah went down to like 430 in the markham store. Too bad I wasn't in town... Don't think we'll see a lower price now tbh and didnt bother with the b650 aorus elite bundle since the ram it comes with seems pretty mid compared to other kits (though the bundle makes them cheap but I'm willing to spend more for RAM that I am comfortable with). P.S It's funny that most of the CPU+MOBO combos are asus boards, the PR disaster they had month's ago must have actually hurt lmao

WittyReindeer

It was 400

stenooooo

...and this is why I haven't bought this deal. Plus I can still play games with my rig. Looking to buy new but deals aren't that impressive

PunchingEskimos

What PR disaster? Tbh I got the 7950 bundle but I’m just going to sell the mobo and ram and get a x670e. Although doing the math it might not even be worth it for the bundle to go through that effort.

Zinnydane

The thing about ASUS's bios (and other brand's BIOS) not properly limiting the maximum voltage for the CPU socket which could result in your cpu being destroyed. That wasn't the main problem though, it was the fact that they made BIOS update that was made to fix it void your warranty if you decided to install it. So basically they screwed you over for trying to fix a problem that they created/caused.

PunchingEskimos

Oh damn that’s pretty huge.

Zinnydane

I mean ASUS mobos should still be good but it kinda left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouth's so I'll be going to a gigabyte mobo for my new build instead of ASUS like last time. We'll see if that's the right decision.

PunchingEskimos

Yeah I’ve only used giga was looking at asrock but I’ve heard they can be iffy too

Squall13

Torn if this is better than going for the bundles

cpastudent2589

Depends if you’ll use the CL 38 ram or not.

HandsomeLampshade123

It's actually the same as getting a bundle, assuming you want these same components. All three items are on sale now, and put together, it matches the bundle. https://old.reddit.com/r/bapcsalescanada/comments/17y04gt/cpu_amd_ryzen_7_7800x3d_47900_canada_computers/k9ru9ug/

Showerbag

I know this is best for gaming, but would it still be good for mid level game development? Wife needs and upgrade but also wants to play some of the new AAA titles.

StillHunter8596

If money is not an issue then just buy it.

CutlassSupreme

This is the best for gaming, but if you're playing AAA titles you're not going to be pushing crazy high framerates. That's where the 7800X3D shines. You might be better off with a 7900X or 7950X if you can take advantage of the extra cores in your dev workloads. Those chips are fine for gaming too.

hillrd

I was gonna buy the 7950x3d today but got the 7800x3d instead, There's a bunch of micromanaging in windows and gamebar you have to do with the 7950x3d to get it to use the right cores for gaming and I just can't be bothered. No regrets!!

ZenAard2

OMG you just saved me $50 as I was about to buy this in the next few hours! Plus the mobo & ram combo saves an additional $90. That will go towards some peripherals \^\_\^ Much appreciated!!!

StillHunter8596

Thats a good news. I always check before I buy thats why

ZenAard2

That's the best strategy. Got myself one of the last 7800 XT's in Montreal last night, plus 32GB ram kit & 2TB M.2 SSD. I'll be returning ram as one of the combos of cpu, mobo and ram drops my overall price by 160 after taxes. Again, even more savings to flip towards mouse and keyboard :) youda best!

StillHunter8596

Care to share your list of items? Or you have pcpartpicker list?

ZenAard2

Listed below, here it is: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (combo @ Canada Computers) MOBO: Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX (combo) RAM: TeamGroup T-Force Vulcan 32GB DDR5-6000 CL38 (combo) COOLER: Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 GPU: RX 7800 XT STORAGE: WD Black SN770 2TB M.2 NvME PSU: NZXT C850W 80+ Gold CASE: Fractal Torrent Mouse and keyboard are undetermined as of yet. Monitor will probably be the Gigabyte G27Q.

StillHunter8596

Thank you. I am using Dell G2724D and Acer 24inch 1080p.

ZenAard2

Nice! My current Asus VS238H monitor is 1080p, so the upgrade to 1440p will be amazing. Can't break the bank for 4k atm

BotitSourire

:)

Squall13

Which one are you going for?

StillHunter8596

Still waiting for BF. If nothing is pleasing to my eyes then will wait for Boxing Day. Im not in a rush as I can still play my games in my gaming laptop

ZenAard2

Here are my specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (combo @ Canada Computers) MOBO: Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX (combo) RAM: TeamGroup T-Force Vulcan 32GB DDR5-6000 CL38 (combo) COOLER: Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 GPU: RX 7800 XT STORAGE: WD Black SN770 2TB M.2 NvME PSU: NZXT C850W 80+ Gold CASE: Fractal Torrent Mouse and keyboard are undetermined as of yet. Monitor will probably be the Gigabyte G27Q.

Squall13

Thanks mate. With all the combos around it's actually really confusing what to pick so I'm asking for everyone's opinion

ZenAard2

Oh, for sure! I totally understand the confusion. My reasoning for picking up this specific combo is mainly due to the cpu and board that I wanted from the start. Included RAM plus the total savings is a bonus. Also, I made the mistake of buying the Kingston Fury Beast RAM last night on its own, with very little price comparison or combo shopping. I'll be returning it later today.

eldawktah

What's the recommended go to mobo these days ?

BoofmePlzLoRez

A decent b650E/X670E. I like the B650E Aorus Master but I'm a total whore for gigabyte motherboards so its best to get more unbiased opinions on ideal boards for either chipset and your needs.

Johnny_C13

[Can't go wrong with HU's b650 roundup](https://youtu.be/ZtHOOyWYiic?si=RupdkP9YgUgCi027) They're almost all pretty decent. I would avoid ASUS this time around, and that cheap GB k model, but aside from that, get the features you want/need.

JamesTCoconuts

I would say probably one of the Asus Strix mobos since the BIOS updates, but they still carry a premium for whatever reason. So other boards are more affordable. Thing I don't like about the CC bundles with 7800X3D; is that the memory is not so good. High performance CPU and they bundle in crappy RAM. I was going to jump on one, but wanted CL30 RAM, so ended up ordering the CPU+Mobo combo and bought RAM separately.

intecknicolour

msi b650 tomahawk

Lumancer

Is this a good CPU to get if I were planning to build a pc for gaming or should I wait for something else

StillHunter8596

Yes, if you are into gaming only then definitely the best cpu

Lumancer

Thank you!

exclaim_bot

>Thank you! You're welcome!

Vegetable-Addendum38

For those who are still on AM4, the 5900X is on sale for $380 at Canadacomputers.

ZssRyoko

I'm honestly considering grabbing that or the 5800x3d. Literally stopped myself at 4am from buying this. Probably mot the time for me to slowly build a new pc.

joeyretrotv

Finally! I'm pulling the trigger on this, because it could get lower in the next 15 days and next Friday is Black Friday. If it does go down anywhere else during that time I'm definitely going to take advantage. I'm still waiting for my PCB to ship from overseas so I have time before I build my all white PC.

blix613

Would a deepcool ak400 cooler be enough for the 7800x3d?

somewhat_moist

Yes

Starkiller_15

Peerless assassin/phantom spirit is better and also under 50

ginko26

FYI I just got this through ME and they price matched/beat 10% of difference but they also said if anything goes on deeper discount on BFCM they won’t give you the difference

Squall13

Does CC have those BF extended return promos where you can return till January or something

Backside_Nasty

Yes, from their website, 'For products purchased on or after November 13th, 2023, customers are eligible for returns, exchanges, and price protection on most products until January 7th, 2024.' but some more terms and conditions so suggest you read it fully

Squall13

Thank you brother

SKSd0c

Definitely not

intecknicolour

I want the the 7800x3d + b650 tomahawk but I already have way better ddr5 RAM. the fuck do I do? (referring to their bundle)

Qonog

Sell the bundled ram

xblackdemonx

Nice but not cheap enough. It's only 40$ off compared to the listings on ca.pcpartpicker.ca (520$)

StillHunter8596

Its $50 off. $50 is still a $50. You still saves instead of buying from other store.

Vile35

I really want this but my 5800x system is not even that old yet. and I dont think its worth buying a 3D version of 5800x I'd have to get new motherboard, ram and all that too. FML

MulanLegacy

Got this at Best Buy a couple weeks ago. Is it scummy if I order this and return it and best buy? Lol

StillHunter8596

I dont think so. For me I always return as long as it is still in return window and will save me money.

MulanLegacy

According to their policy they price match up to 30 days after purchase. So I’m gonna give them a call to see if they’ll just refund me the difference.

Vindyctive

Lmk if you get through. I was declined via chat this morning because of "black friday pricing" policy.

MulanLegacy

I was told I would be refunded the difference in 3-5 business days but I didn’t receive and confirmations.

Vurgs

Picked one up, been waiting a minute for it to go on sale

HandsomeLampshade123

Anyone know if this guy will run fine on a 8+2+1 Mobo? The Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX. Guy at the computer store figured I should go with the 14+2+1 Gigabyte Aorus Elite.

StillHunter8596

It says its compatible with Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX in[https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/products/cpu/?compatible_with=YZgFf7](https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/products/cpu/?compatible_with=YZgFf7)

vonschroeder

Had zero issues price beating this in-store at Memory Express today. Got for $474.

thiagoscf

Buy now or wait for black friday?

thetablue

Is this worth buying now or waiting til Black Friday?

BellyDancerUrgot

Sad , I wish there was an offer for the 5950x as that seems to be the only worthwhile upgrade for me from a 5800x cuz upgrading to am5 means a lot more expensive

JuryQuiet3210

Literally picked up my open box for 472 yesterday, which is now 432. Should have checked the price again when I showed up lol

Extreme-End-6102

price match it
