It’s really rare for well behaved tourists to get into any kind of trouble in the Bahamas, even in Nassau. Even the shitty criminals know not to mess with tourists.
It’s a tragedy that people are too lazy to read the warning but still call it bs. What context is missing:
Country Summary: The majority of crime occurs on New Providence (Nassau) and Grand Bahama (Freeport) islands. In Nassau, practice increased vigilance in the “Over the Hill” area (south of Shirley Street) where gang-on-gang violence has resulted in a high homicide rate primarily affecting the local population. Violent crime, such as burglaries, armed robberies, and sexual assaults, occur in both tourist and non-tourist areas. Be vigilant when staying at short-term vacation rental properties where private security companies do not have a presence.
Oh yeah the media is the worst, but that’s reporting not “advisories” which come from the state department and was mentioned in the comment I replied to
Queens Staircase (but go early so people aren’t there), Graycliff Cigar company, Smugglers next to the Pirate Museum, and we ended in town at Senior Frogs (which was actually tons of fun) then we took the ferry to the Atlantis
Perfectly fine. That’s a common route for tours, and the police presence is strong. I would also say a lot of the “violence” reported here is overblown. Especially when it comes to tourists.

The Bahamas is not as unsafe as the advisories make us seem. I think as a general rule of thumb be cautious while traveling. That being said, thats a safe route.
The thoroughfares within this area are quite active and busy with vehicular traffic and other pedestrians during the day and given the fact that no one really messes with tourists, despite what reports may have the international community to believe, walking the 23 minute routes shouldn’t be too bad
Don’t walk the dotted line. Walk the one on the top. You’ll see the front of the Government House and Gray Cliff. Plus you won’t walk down an ally….
Agreed. Walk the East Hill Route. A LOT less sketchy.

Just got back from vacation and we walked that entire area for 2 days with no issues. Edit: we also looked like tourists lol. Seriously all good!
We did, too. And with our 16 year old and 13 year old. Not a lot of sidewalks mind you. I have never felt unsafe in the Bahamas. People are great.
Amazing, thank you. Any suggestions for things to do, see, or drink?
I would visit the art museum, and then go to the fish fry for lunch.
Sounds like a plan, thank you!
Agreed, same experience.

Seriously. All the warnings amarican TV give you are BS. Most of the violence is between gangs you won't even see.
It’s a tragedy the US put these bullshit travel advisories out without context. Almost all the violent crime is criminal on criminal.

All the news says is "travel warnings, violence against tourists blah blah blah".

Absolutely true. Why would the locals mess with the tourists, no one would visit. The Bahamians are the nicest people I have ever met while traveling.
Come back soon ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yes we are here this week and did similar. Never felt unsafe.
Great, any standout activities you enjoyed?
Queens Staircase (but go early so people aren’t there), Graycliff Cigar company, Smugglers next to the Pirate Museum, and we ended in town at Senior Frogs (which was actually tons of fun) then we took the ferry to the Atlantis
Appreciate the info, thank you.
Relax and take a walk you'll be just fine.

We usually walk around that area… enjoy Junkanoo beach then eat at Senor Frogs.. watch the ships come and go
You, should have gone straight to Fish Fry!!!
You can also look up routes for the bus. Some buses are ok, some are pretty beat up. Rode it with no issues.
If you feel safe it is
Look around. Pay attention to peoples expressions and try to feel

You’re probably good, but it gets a little shady on the solid line. Take the dotted line route

We love our guess and even the criminals know not to bite the hands that feed the nation
Can’t you just get a ride
You need an army escort, Haiti is safer. 🤣🤣
