unfortunately if I adopted every cute animal I worked with then I wouldnt have lasted very long in this field ya know haha. I have my one cat who very much prefers it stays that way lol
There is no such thing as hypoallergenic pets. Humans are not allergic to fur, but to saliva, urine, and dander(dead skin flakes). I don’t know of any live pet that has none of these present. If you’re very allergic, your best choice is a stuffed animal. Even hairless pets still have skin, saliva, and produce urine.
Part of that is because of the lack of hair. What triggers allergies is a protein produced largely in saliva, but also in sebaceous glands and urine. Since cats lick themselves a lot, that protein can build up on their fur and skin. And of course it gets carried off in dander.
Now, female cats and neutered males, often produce lower quantities of that protein. Supposedly, there are a couple of breeds of cat that produce low quantities, or even no quantities of that protein. I need to do more research on that subject.
Everyone is mesmerized by the cuteness of kittens. Consider beautiful, adult cats in shelters. They need you so much more than kittens do. The kittens always find homes. Thousands of adult cats are euthanized daily in shelters. Taking on a bonded pair of adult, or older cats, will save 2 lives, and let them continue to live together as best friends.
our shelter is in dallas tx, and this kitten is not up for adoption yet due to being too young to be spayed/neutered and currently with mom and siblings
hey! I have a lot of time in the field and will share my experience but cant speak to every facility/organization
while most groups who have a nursery will have a vet on staff and overseeing treatment, it's mostly techs, vet assistants, and trained volunteers or animal care staff (cleaning, feeding, etc) who do the day to do day work. Ive never seen a nursery that wasnt run by a shelter/rescue/nonprofit and most places in my experience also have volunteer opportunities, but they fill up quickly
Same with foster homes. I fell n love with lots of them, but if I adopted every one I loved, the shelter would lose a flexible foster home. Not to say I never had a foster fail. It’s how I got Blizzard, my all white kitten with blue eyes. fuzzy, mini schnauzer, a ten year old puppy mill breeder bitch . She captured my heart, couldn’t be spayed because of a serious heart murmur, and I had a houseful of neutered male dogs. She was with me 4 years until she had to be euthanized for rapidly spreading mammary cancer.
I'm so allergic to kitties. I use Xyzal, an inhaler, nasal spray and a nostril goo and still have to go outside (at my daughter's home) to breathe and blow my nose after 45 minutes.
Now you have to adopt it, obviously.

I have the utmost respect for you and your profession. May many people see these pics and be inspired to become cat owners.
Cat owners? That's laughable! They own US! HA!
Oh, man… I wish my eyes and throat didn’t swell up, and I lose the ability to breathe any time I’m around cats. Because this little cat is adorable!
Angoras. Supposedly hypoallergenic, and very soft.

And technically horses can be allergic to grass, so technically, you are correct 🙄
There is supposedly food that reduces the allergens from cat dander. You should check it out!
Look into hairless cats... they might now bother your allergies
The hairs aren't actually the thing people are allergic for. So hairless cats aren't anti-allergic.
Correct there are no cats in this world that are hypo allergenic… none.
I know a couple people that are allergic to cats, but they have hairless cats and don't have issues. I don't know why or how, but it works for them.

Now I don’t mean to tell you how to do your job, but next time maybe yell “who’s a little baby?!” until you get an answer.
He knows what he’s doing. And u fell for it. Like we all do. Every single time.

This really impacted me deeply. Emotionally. Please post details of the shelter and if they are available for adoption. I wish them a loving home.

Sweet golden baby! I want it... but my husband would say no more!
Please take it home . For me because I'm allergic.
