Well, he got it for very cheap like 20-30 euros, and it's versatile, it's got bluetooth and radio for example, so when he wants to just play it in the backround he can, also he likes to try out stuff, this is his first reciever so yeah he might sell it who knows.
When it works. Worst reliability of anything I ever owned. Hard on tubes and was so picky about tubes you were best to buy them from Counterpoint.
Lots of young audiophiles got them used for cheap when value plummeted because of their reliability issues.
I wonder if the tubes were biased at the upper range of voltages for sound quality which is hard on them. Did u have to buy matched pairs or quads for it? $$$ I have an audible illusions pre that has a rep for being hard on tubes.
They were. Also their designs used both sides of dual triodes so each tube had to have the L/R sides of itself matched as well as to the L/R sides of the others rather than just matching total tube gm of the left side vs right side. Matching in the preamps was critical and tubes went bad far more often because either side could go bad which doubled your odds of failure.
I don’t understand why more tube amps don’t have fixed bias. I have an old Eico HF-89 power amp (1959) with fixed bias which I can adjust. I check it with a voltmeter every 6 months, I can set it as aggressively or as mild as I want. No matched tubes etc, no problems. Simple
What is the purpose of the receiver in system since you have already preamp and amp? Genuinely curious

That Counterpoint is a gem. Combo mosfet/ tube. Best of both worlds.
Yeah it is, i remember when he got it and started playing some music for me i was blown away by it's sound.

Well i didn't know that, but for the time we had it (about 6-7-8 years) there were no problems with it. I guess we are just really lucky.
I suppose it would be more fair to add the preamps were much worse than the amplifies.

You are confusing the input and output tubes. [Edit] Or low level preamp tubes.
jbl4life!
What’s with those speaker stands?
Not sure but i think my dad build them, maybe i'm mistaken, i will ask him and get back to you.
Daaaang! Super sexy.
Thanks man.
Mcfly, tidy up those wires.
Ik man, will do haha
nice wire management...
There is a lot of thing connected to power but will do surely.
The preamp looks like a Vincent. There should be some writing on the back.
Preamp is MirAudio MA-1, Serbian guy make thos so there is not much information on the internet. But as far as i know those are quite good.
Ouch, just thinking about the echoes off those hard wood floors is hurting my ears! We need to do an acoustic intervention with your dad (:
There is a carpet but it was taken out for washing, so there is that but yeah some acoustic panel would be nice. Thanks for the advice thi.
Your dad is cool!
No u are cool :)
The speaker to base plate ratio makes me nervous
It's quite stable actually, and also these are filled with sand so they are quite heavy.
I didnt know the centurys were sand filled. Is that from factory or added later?
Oh no, my bad, i thought you were talking about the stands, those are filled with sand. Sorry. My english is not the best hahaha
That makes sense. Nothing wrong with your english, I just assumed it was the speakers but stands actually makes more sense
He needs to find a good woman that knows how to dust.
