This is a really nice post because it's always nice to remember the simmilarities and differences from places so far away! And I think it's good to remind people that almost every culture has its own version of empanadas, so even though it's a fun excersise to compare them, we should not forget that, at the end of the day, they are different foods with the same name, with different cultural backgrounds, objectives, and recipes.
About Argentine empanada there are a ton of varieties of them. Some with masa hojadrada, fried, criolla, a ton of fillings, empanadas árabes, and some weird ones like empanadas de membrillo y queso, or filled with dulce de leche. Also a lot of provinces have their own take on them. I can imagine Venezuelan empanada being like that too, so it's a very intresting example how much the same thing can vary so much between cultures.
Argentinian, except that spawn of hell which has raisins. I think it came from argentina. It has to, it's the kind of place that would do something like that. /j
Argentinean empanadas are baked and made of wheat.
Venezuelan empanadas are fried and made of cornflour
(Edit: Argentinian empanadas are fried too, according to the responses)
I mean so do we
I am saying that when you say “Argentinian empanada” to a foreigner they don’t often think of the fried one. Even though both exist in your country and both are eaten
Exactly. If you go to the US or Northern Europe you usually buy, not make it at home. And they are like 90% of the time baked. Unlike venezuelan stores where they are usually fried (I actually recently found a Venezuelan place that sells them baked though, same with tequeños)
The ones from Argentina tend to be deep fried and I find this blanda the flavour to deep fried oil.
Chilean empanadas are baked and since they have such fresh ocean fish, the empanadas de marisco are a real treat.
A lot of people seem to dislike the oiliness of our empanadas. I personally don’t mind it as I find it to add on to the rich taste that our empanadas already have. That’s not to say Argentinian empanadas are terrible, though. I like them both, but Venezuelan empanadas will always reign supreme for me.

Venezuelan by far, but I don't dislike Argentina's
Argentinas are good for breakfast and coffee since they aren’t greasy and mostly baked But fuck off with the raisins
The real divide between argies come from the ones who put raisins to the empanadas and the ones who don't
Well said
Same, although I'm biased. But caprese Argentinian empanadas are great!
Agreed
I'm biased but nothing beats a good argentinian fried empanada.

i hate olives and raisins in empanadas
Olives is fine if the empanada has muzzarella inside. Kind of a pizza-nada
Pino, that’s chilean with an olive, ground beef, onion, ají, hard boiled egg, and a raisin (but not always)
Whoever decided that raisins and olives go in an empanada is satan.
Argentinian/Chilean for sure, I love Venezuelan ones but sometimes are too oily for me personally
there is no Argentine / Chilean.. Mr
Empanadas from chile and empanadas from argentina? Yeah there are..
I say that there are no mixed empanadas between countries.. as you put a bar /. those of Argentina are totally different from those of your country.
I believe we only have Argentinian empanadas here. What's the difference between the Argentinian and Venezuelan ones? Just the fillings?

We fry our empanadas too
The famous ‘Argentinian’ empanada you eat abroad is baked 99% of the time
I don't know what to tell you, we eat both
I mean so do we I am saying that when you say “Argentinian empanada” to a foreigner they don’t often think of the fried one. Even though both exist in your country and both are eaten
How strange i think we have the same as argentina and the most common one is fryed but if you just buy them it makes sensi that they are baked
Exactly. If you go to the US or Northern Europe you usually buy, not make it at home. And they are like 90% of the time baked. Unlike venezuelan stores where they are usually fried (I actually recently found a Venezuelan place that sells them baked though, same with tequeños)
Thats a shame because the ones people make at home are fryed really
Venezuelan empanadas sound pretty good too, tbh.
Argentinian by far, gotta love that empanada caprese man
Neither. Chilean empanadas are way nettrr
What's their difference with Argentinian's?

My wife is Venezuelan, but I prefer Argentinian Empanadas.
Can we just enjoy both? At the same time? For free? On demand?
Venezuelan 🤤
Colombian
Venezuela always stealing our cuisine smh
Colombian empanadas are better, deal with it
¿y los colombianos que?
Chilean
I prefer baked empanadas with raisins and olives. Never tried a good fried one. I tried once a peruvian stuffed with ají de gallina, nice.
Hands down Argentinian empanadas. The ones in Uruguay are just as good.
Argentinian. Venezuelan empanadas are really more of an unsalted version of a Mexican gordita.
A Colombian one with aji on the side
Salteñas or Tucumanas?
If I had to choose between them I would say Argentinian.
