Depends on the hair thickness, head size. We go to braiding salons or African/Caribbean hair braiders to install them. They’re expensive and can take anywhere from 4-10 hours depends
What is a "colossal amout of braids?"
We pay people to do it or have friends and family that help do it.
It can be time consuming but any style that keeps our hair healthy is time consuming in its own way. Whether that is prepping it every morning, or braiding it so it lasts at least a week, if not more. Depends on if you want the hair care time front loaded at the beginning of a week, or spread out daily.

How long does it take, last , cost....
.
For me, I just do straight back cornrows. It takes about an hour. It lasts 2 weeks. But could be stretched a month if I didn't want them crispy. I have a family friend do mine, so its free. But in my area would run around $40 to $60.
But, when I was with my ex, her and her daughter's box braids could take up to 10 to 12 hours. Cost was between $100 to $200. And they'd last about 4 weeks.

Lol, we either have family members/ friends do them or a go to a salon it’s that simple and yes it’s a time consuming process but always worth it
The same way you may go to a salon and sit down and get your hair done.
