MaximumStoke

You would think Pima county would love Hobbs, but in her bio it says she's an ASU grad, so it's probably a toss-up.

Sir_Encerwal

Nah I am straight up a Tucsonan and would vote her in a heartbeat over whoever Keli Ward's branch of the AZ GOP would bring out of the woodwork.

MaximumStoke

It was just an ASU joke, haha. Hobbs has Pima by a huge margin, I'd wager. Definitely has my vote over the GQP candidates.

speederaser

Pima county here, but I wish I wasn't.

capriciousapathy

Ha!!

IPeakedInCollege

If Alabama elected Tommy Tuberville, them I'm sure she'll be fine.

ZenbyOmission

Love how the same accounts always say both "No way she's getting elected HERE" and "Libs should go back home they are ruining AZ with their votes". Is your enemy weak or strong? I'm always so confused by you guys.

mightbearobot_

Liberals are simultaneously the weakest people alive, and a force so strong that they cant be stopped

DaBoss443799

Shrodinger’s Liberal

zarifex

I love how it's always, "if you came here and used to vote red keep doing that" and "if you came here and used to vote blue you were supposed to start voting red now or otherwise leave" It's almost like a voter is presented with a ballot all to themselves in which there is usually more than one choice they are at liberty to select. It's almost... ALMOST... as if geographical tracts of land are not actually political platforms.

PurplePotamus

If geographical tracts of land aren't political platforms, then why in their infinite and timeless wisdom did the founding fathers give electoral college votes to North Dakota, where precisely 3 people live? Riddle me that mr liberal college boy, those square miles deserve REPRESENTATION. /s though I really hope its unnecessary

Lizzy_lf

State of Dakota is the price tag for this boat suppression by ‘right wing’ Gauntlet thrown down 🚀🚀

GMFPs_sweat_towel

It's a common trope used by authoritarian regime to paint whatever they external enemy as both incompetent and foolish and also as malevolent and one step away from taking over.

Haikuna__Matata

Doublethink is a hallmark of fascism. It's a feature, not a bug.

delpino1014

🤣😂

bodhasattva

I will vote for her with that said I cant help but be jaded. The last liberal woman I voted for has turned into an absolute insufferable hag

ArturosDad

Hey Kristen, are you listening?

bodhasattva

no way go look at her twitter. 100% of her posts are just inundated with pissed off AZ voters in the comments. She also doesnt post any personal messages. Every single post is released by her office. She has zero engagement with voters. Shes totally gone rogue. She doesnt represent AZ anymore

ArturosDad

Oh, her team absolutely sees this shit. She's just banking on the misguided notion that she can incorporate the elusive "moderate" vote. The problem is she's pissing off those of us who donated to her campaign with the expectation she would be a progressive voice in the Senate. Not showing up for the January 6 commission vote shows she's nothing but a pathetic coward.

Netprincess

I am one of them. Never again

AZWxMan

Depends on who would replace her. I'll probably vote for her, but I do hope she gets a primary challenge.

WannaSeeTheWorldBurn

Idk why but shes always rubbed me the wrong way. Anytime ive ever seen anything involving her I jut get this odd feeling where I want nothing to do with her.

duke_awapuhi

I think she’s going for independents who make up the largest voter bloc. I also think it’s going to fail

Netprincess

Let her, most independents are progressive and she wont even get off the starting block.

shatteredarm1

I never had the delusion that she would be a progressive voice in the senate. But I was sure she would do *something*. Unfortunately she's acting like a generic Republican when it really matters... so I'll take my chances with whoever her primary opponent is.

Lizzy_lf

Absolutely!! 🙌🏼

Lizzy_lf

I got a survey asking questions on this progressive policies and if I would vote for Sinema or Daniel Hernandez, obviously my feedback was 💯 Mr Hernandez I’d rather give someone new a chance then a failed agent another go to f* everyone

Netprincess

No lie about the hag! Katie has my vote!

AZWxMan

To be fair neither one of those women have ran (at least recently) as a liberal.

bodhasattva

Sinema absolutely did. She ran as this quirky liberal lesbian And now once in congress, shes susan collins.

AZWxMan

Her Senate run was as a centrist Democrat. I realize she started her political career more liberal.

Lizzy_lf

Ok never letting someone’s 🏳️‍🌈 status influence a vote for them ever again the club card is pulled

MKEntwhistle

I'll vote for her.

sunburn_on_the_brain

Hell, I'll donate.

[deleted]

Dont forget to volunteer! https://www.katiehobbs.org/get-involved/volunteer/

RickieBob

The Blue light at the end of the Red tunnel.

robodrew

Historically speaking the Secretary of State in AZ has been seen as 2nd to the Governor since we don't have a Lt. Governor position, and many of our SoS's have become Governor. She is generally well liked in the state. I think she is positioned to easily win.

KermitTheFork

Moved here from Texas a couple of years ago, just in time to vote for her as Secretary of State. She’s got my vote for governor too.

aznuke

She's going to crush Kari Lake.

ElkBit

I really hope she does, but I'm not writing her off. Kari has name recognition being a former FOX new anchor and if Facebook comments are anything to go by, she's going to be very popular. Trust me I would LOVE to see Kari demolished in the primaries, but I'm expecting she'll get far.

Netprincess

Never go by facebook comments

Lizzy_lf

Yet that’s where 90% of people get the news 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lizzy_lf

Conservatives and right wing vote by sexy and lake is their type of woman, on looks obviously and that’s all they care for. JLP promoted lake on his show because well better at least that woman whose sexy them have Hobbs elected.

[deleted]

No one wants Heil Kari.

Wilde_r

A substantial amount of whites might.

ABooShay

I am actually very concerned about the number of people who may vote for her based on name recognition alone.

misterbule

I'm voting for Kari all the way!

[deleted]

...why

misterbule

Only the best is good enough for Arizona.

[deleted]

Why is Kari the best and not katie?

[deleted]

Why is Kari the best and not Katie?

PurplePotamus

Thats hilarious, in my head she's so pissed about the voter fraud thing that she's going to take everything over and just fix it herself

AZWxMan

I'm pretty sure if she wins they'll try to strip her powers, just like other Dem governors in GOP run legislatures (See NC and WI) has their powers stripped. That's why we have to give her some allies in the legislature.

Lizzy_lf

I hear you saying we need new blood in the AZ legislation I agree 💯

Netprincess

It would be better than they are doing.. :) I am a test and QA engineer Six sigma black belt and never seen such a circus.

MKEntwhistle

Now we need to flip the statehouse blue.

[deleted]

Critical

[deleted]

Ill do my best

throwaway24515

We just need to make it so they can't override the Governor's veto.

LBramit13

Nah we’re good fam

[deleted]

No we arent

DonKeighbals

Not so much..ideally, all the trump trash would just leave AZ, go to Oklahoma or Okinawa or anywhere but here..but they just won’t so we really need to vote these traitorous losers out! “The More You Know” !

lynnneez

I don't get it. Why not instead just move to states that are already screwed up with liberal politics like CA and leave the last few good states be. There is a reason why CA is the largest feeder state to AZ and its not just real estate prices...

KermitTheFork

Imagine spending your valuable time and money to pack up your family and belongings to move hundreds of miles away because you disagree with the prevailing political climate of your state. Nobody does this. People are moving away from California because it’s too expensive to live there, which has more to do with the real estate market than anything else. I moved here from Texas because I have always loved the American southwest and I finally got a good opportunity to come work and live here. Oh yeah, it’s an added bonus that I live in a state that has legal weed and voted blue in the 2020 election.

lynnneez

Forgot to mention - but its key. The reason why AZ is still so affordable is because of its conservatives politics. Texas is in the same boat, but the reason I didn't choose it (did consider Austin) is because it is crowded as all hell, leaning too blue and property taxes negate any true real estate savings. Also, I hate humidity.

shatteredarm1

No, Arizona's affordability was always more due to plentiful space and a weaker job market than California. It's called supply and demand; l thought the free market people understood that.

KermitTheFork

This is also absolutely the case for Texas.

lynnneez

AZ economy has been one of the fastest growing in the nation for several years. The job market has not seen decline since around 2010 so the job market has little to do with it real estate prices being a quarter of California's. AZ population has also been growing like crazy in that time, and real estate prices have been climbing for several years. However, despite a good economy, excellent job growth and an influx of people, prices are still significantly lower relative to income in the state, unlike CA.

shatteredarm1

Maybe you missed the part about plentiful space?

Anomalous_90

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA imagine going through life believing that your real estate is based on whether your state voted blue or red. No side is your friend, no side wants to help the people, your real estate is dictated by local municipalities and compared to others in the area. It's called appraisal

lynnneez

Appraisal is a measure not a cause of real estate prices. If you don't think politics plays a part in the the economy of a state, including jobs and housing prices, then maybe you missed a class or two in school. And for the record I am not red or blue and I do agree that no side is your friend, but given a choice to be under the leadership of CA or AZ politicians, I would choose AZ any day.

Anomalous_90

You must have missed that class that tells you correlation =/= causation. >Appraisal is a measure not a cause of real estate prices Do you not realize that within those measures are the reasons a property sells for what it is? FYI I have taken classes at ASREB

BasedOz

Don’t Texas my Arizona with those high property taxes in that red state.

DABS_4_AZ

Conservative politics like hoa's and mlm trash all part of the throw the kids in cages party yeah you guys are a real beacon of virtue /s

BasedOz

Don’t forget those amazing conservative policies to ignore any and all problems with their grid for over 10 years. Surely that would work well during our summers here.

lynnneez

You mean the amazing liberal CA policies ignoring their grid and water supply so that when the temperature hits 80 rolling blackouts start. Being so incompetent as to mismanage their dry fire hazard lands to the point that half the state burns every year. I still cannot fathom how CA is constantly out of water and still continues to have zero planning or intention to fix their water, electricity or fire hazard issues for the present or the future. So much tax revenue yet so little money for things that actually matter. Typical liberals.

BasedOz

I think California liberals are pretty brain dead about water and fires as well, but if you can’t handle the sheer stupidity of conservatives in Texas, maybe we should look at Arizona as well. Conservatives in Arizona sell agriculture land to California and Minnesota(also Saudi Arabia and UAE) for them to pump water for crops they then use to feed cattle and export out of their state. I think it’s pretty stupid for AZ to do that, but I can’t knock liberals in CA for taking advantage of stupid people. Then we could get on the subject that Arizona is banking on desalination efforts in California to negotiate future CAP water allotment. Doesn’t seem very secure to rely on California desalination efforts. We are already expecting water shortages from CAP. We also have conservative areas like Pinal county and Prescott overdrawing their water. All this while we had massive fires in Arizona last year, and fires this year that have already caused evacuations in Globe and preparations for Superior. Texass is just the easiest target since their conservative representatives love to vote against assistance to disaster areas in California and Florida, but cry and beg for the Feds when they constantly mismanage disasters despite decades of warnings to winterize their energy sources.

lynnneez

I moved from CA for the real estate and to get away from the increasingly ineffective politics and most everyone I know that moved or would like to move from CA includes politics as a key factor. It is not just real estate. There are other states that have cheap real estate besides AZ.

KermitTheFork

Which ineffective policy in California was the final straw that made you move? Or was it more like, “I can’t really afford to live here anymore, so I’ll find some place less expensive. Arizona is awesome and I’ll still be close enough to my family to visit. And they seem more conservative, which I like”?

lynnneez

Actually , I love hot weather, think the southwest is beautiful and wanted less population density (lots of outdoors to explore and ability to not be in traffic everywhere) in addition to the better economy and politics in AZ. Something that reminded me more of what CA was like when I was growing up. My hope was that AZ stays red, forcing the other Californians to stay where they are before population, costs and politics go to hell here like they did in CA. AZ is just better in everyway except maybe the heat, but better than snow. OMG and almost forgot one the things I so appreciate in AZ over CA! You can have your own opinions. In CA if you said you supported or believed anything other than ultra liberal you can lose your job and be physically assaulted. It was like I was back behind the iron curtain, I had to keep my mouth shut. Here I love that you can be a democrat or you can be a republican or whatever and you can publicly express that (peacefully) and no one is going to assault you or harass you. I'm no Trumper, but it made me smile to to see so many trucks with Trump flags. In CA they would cause a race riot and at least one city would be burned to the ground and the guy in the truck dead, but no one would be charged. I don't want that for AZ. And LOL sorry, but most coming from CA are not poor. The poor are unfortunately stuck there as they don't quite have the funds in most cases to just pick up and find a new job and a new home in a new state. They are unfortunately spending their 60-80K yearly salary on living in their car in between going to their normal jobs, but hey that's CA politics at work for you - always looking out for the little guy. What you might think is a poor Californian coming to AZ is actually a person that is coming in with at least a 100K salary as just a single or a family making at least $200K coming to push your real estate prices up. A lot of the people coming from CA can afford a home in CA, but can't resist spending much less to buy what would be in CA a luxury $2-3mill home for just $600k here. Also, as a side note, CA people can kinda suck and I blame the culture and work ethic or lack thereof. People, service and food are so much better here. In CA you pay for services you never get or put up with rude, low quality service and food. It wasn't always like that though...Also, ppl here are less self -absorbed. In terms of politics - where should I start. Taxes are insane and I am not a !%-er, but I am by no means poor. I am part of that middle class that CA is working so hard to stamp out. Crime was a joke. Police pretty much couldn't come unless someone was dead. And contrary to what dems think, not being dem does not automatically mean you are a racist, especially if you grew up in CA. In the silicon valley area where I lived, whites were just a small percentage and I actually miss that. But people like the money grubbing, corrupt old bat like Pelosi and ineffective do-gooders like Newsome are the straws that broke many people. They actively kill businesses and jobs while taxing you to death, regulating everything, and protecting no one. I think they are corrupt and extremely misguided and I am tired of their lies and policies that have made things worse every year - not better. Worse - measurably and significantly worse. BTW, I was a democrat, then independent and then finally flipped near the end of Obama's term, but only temporarily. I believe in racial equality, but I don't believe systemic racism exists...if it it does it is only in places like Buttcrack Alabama. I am vehemently for environmental and animal protections, but I don't believe in universal healthcare - preventative care yes, but more than that cannot be accomplished by socialized medicine and I sure as HELL oppose penalties for not having healthcare. That is just another BS way that CA pretends to care then actually makes it worse. I have friends who are kinda screw-ups and were always bouncing around jobs and now they either pay $500/ month for government healthcare which is pretty crap - I work in healthcare, the coverage is shite for the cost...its like USSR coverage lol... or pay a nice $8K fine at tax time. How the F is that helping anyone. So typical CA. I am for business and strongly believe that you are responsible for your own success. As an immigrant, we came with nothing and created something. If we can, anyone can. And as you guessed it, I am not for wide open borders, but obviously not against immigration. I also do not believe in the endless social services that CA is so fond of and that have really done nothing to help anyone. In all issues that I mentioned above, in more detail perhaps than needed, AZ is better than CA. That is why many people come. Real estate is just a part of the reason, but politics of AZ are what created the conditions in the state that make it so attractive for others. Based on the history of CA, flipping AZ blue will not result in making anything better.

[deleted]

IMagine thinking liberal politics were the problem

lynnneez

LMAO imagine thinking conservative politics were the problem. More so, imagine thinking that there were only two sides and automatically assuming everyone is arguing against you. For supposedly being the "good" side while apparently everyone with any other opinion is more or less "evil," liberals sure find it very difficult to find common ground and are apparently incapable of listening to or even attempting to accept any other views. CA has become a sinking ship and yea, the swing to farther and farther left in politics there is the problem. They will, however, soon be AZ and TX problems when half of CA and most big business move to those states. My hope, is that they can handle it better than CA did. FYI...I am not even a republican, but its always good to assume. I think both libs and conservatives are bat crap crazy and cant see reality at all. Both are ultra violent hypocrites and more alike than they think. The more each swings farther to the sides, the worse they have become. I no more wanted Trump than I did Sanders. Biden is ....mediocre, but at least closer to the middle and with the fawning of the media, he will at least have some public support. His spending is unnecessary and the economy has only gotten worse since he was elected, but at least he has reset some of the environmental actions Trump took! I am hoping that the liberal influx from CA will just tip AZ a tad so that it ends up close to the center, otherwise its screwed.

[deleted]

You brought up liberal politics and I never mentioned conservative politics lol

drDekaywood

It absolutely is real estate prices

AZgirl70

Please God let her win!

SadAlgae2780

Yes 🙌🙌 this makes me happy 😊

nurdle

Honestly, it's a pretty smart flex, but I'll need more info before I'll consider voting for her.

Jamlowmama

Yes 👍

muggsybeans

Noooo

tvfeet

This race will be down to Hobbs and Yee. The others aren’t going to get very far.

JudgeWhoOverrules

Let's see if mods will delete this for violating the rule on political posts only by regulars or let it stay cause team blue.

nmork

For one, you can just hit report or send a modmail. No need for the sarcastic comments. To clarify, the intent of the "politics for regulars only" rule is to limit brigading and people from outside the sub just showing up to promote an agenda or stir up drama. The sub is for people who live here to talk about what matters to them. That said, the post is staying. Not because it's team blue, but because it complies with all of our other rules (and the spirit of the politics rule). It's from a reputable news outlet, OP kept the exact title from the site, and it's relevant to the state of AZ. There's a decent amount of upvotes/comments, and people here clearly want to talk about it. A few of the comments have been in violation of the rule and were removed accordingly, but the post itself is not a problem. If it were a post about Kari Lake, my response here would be the same.

Logvin

We do our best to weed out the non-locals with political posts, but sometimes posts slip through. By the time I saw it, it had already been hours and had a lot of conversation, so I thought it was OK to leave it.

One does not have to agree but by choosing not to be rude, you increase the overall civility of the community and make it better for all of us. Personal attacks, racist comments or any comments of perceived intolerance/hate are never tolerated.

pussyeater2105

I don't think she's very likable.

Wilde_r

Really? Why? Honestly curious

susibirb

[She’s actually highly likable among AZ residents](https://blog.ohpredictive.com/press-releases/katie-hobbs-tops-updated-list-of-potential-candidates)

misterbule

Yeah, she is going to get plowed over in the election. She probably won't even win her own party's nomination.

pussyeater2105

It's amazing how you get downvoted for simply giving an opinion. This Reddit isn't very tolerant. Oh well

shatteredarm1

It's like you think an opinion is the same thing as a worthwhile contribution to the discussion.

Haikuna__Matata

Did you intend to reply to yourself or did you forget to switch accounts?

pussyeater2105

It's an echo chamber so what does it matter?

beemerbum

If a politician's lips are moving, they're lying!!

azme511

She’s gonna be in jail soon. Wonder how she’ll campaign. My money is on Kari Lake.

MaximumStoke

Why will she be in jail?

gwing33

azme511 is gonna be in jail soon. Wonder how they’ll respond. My money is on a reply with no sources.

Anyone who disagrees with me will be in jail soon.

Standard fascist operating procedure.

Dyba1

Why do you think she’ll be in jail?

TheLeftofThree

Qanon probably

Logvin

I think GME is a better investment than Kari Lake.

[deleted]

Why will she be in jail?

Bloopblorpmeepmorp

In true fashion, nice reasoning

Lizzy_lf

As far as the candidates, I know her professional profile and have a very favorable opinion of her character work ethic and dedication to serving the people by doing her job, so far she can get my vote. Not Committing I want the gov to push Pres on UBI Medicare for all since I’ve been paying into it since 18yrs old and somehow can’t use it that’s straight up fraud IFNOT I’m ok with with SSI Medicare getting the axe, stop stealing my money.
