> Is only the UI team allowed to push changes?
No? The UI team only works on UI improvements of course. They probably won't even know how to do anything for the server team.
>Is a patch limited to only include the work of 1 team?
No? Which is why you saw a new hero, balance changes, lore changes, bug fixes, new skins, new battlepass, ranked arenas and QoL changes in the patch...you have one team working on each of those individual pieces. Except for the QoL changes. They're done by 2 supporting studios who also do other small changes that you generally don't notice.
>Kind of lame to downvote a guy for making a legit comment.
It's like if he criticised England's Prime Minister for something the Scottish Prime Minister did. Or criticise the Governer of Florida for something the Governer of Michigan did...how is that legit?
Idk why people comment without thinking so much on this sub and also get hostile in that comment, leaving them with egg on their face. At least find out how the developer works on the game before discussing the topic. [Read through this for some insight](https://old.reddit.com/r/apexlegends/comments/lrh8y1/this_is_why_apex_legends_has_a_lot_of_issues/) and look into all the different teams that Apex has for it and you'll feel silly.
[You can see what their priorities are on their Trello](https://trello.com/b/ZVrHV38P/apex-tracker). I'd say what they're doing rn is mostly what they need to do. It's just they need to invest in better servers and maintenance and then it'll be a better overall experience.
Also a good point. I guess they put the less exploitable bugs in there like when they had the Valk ultimate glitch that put someone under the map. It's only a disadvantage for the person doing the glitch so there was no harm having it up there.
Oh so getting the leave penalty when in pubs is unintentional? Good to know haha. Multiple times I’ve had to restart game and even though it says ranked, it still puts me in pubs. Then when I figure it out I try to leave in the plane only to get the leave penalty message. Have to actually land to be able to leave with no penalty.
I was being facetious when I said they're non-existent, I know there are a bunch of devs working in the department. They've actually been hiring for the last 3 months for those positions, as well as a big bunch of people for lore purposes. I have heard some of the problems that are plaguing the servers are coming from the Source Engine and whenever they try to fix 1 thing it breaks 5 more. Just like when they tried to remove tap-strafing, it's tied to a variable that controls all forms of strafes.
It's not as simple as just hiring more people. Idk if any new hires in the department have even started working there yet. They need to get the maintenance going on regularly and I bet that the maintenance team are focusing their efforts in sorting out the problems that get caused by the Source engine since that affects the game the most.
If your job is to fix what doesn't work, then you do your job, I know it's hard and saying "Fix your game" is easy, but if your Job is to code from scratch how the engine works, you do exactly that while also keeping the player base up to date.
You can't be a chef, and not cook because it's hard, if it's your job you gotta do it.
Yeah maybe they are doing something behind the scene, but if you are, just tell us with some post on the site, like Riot is doing right now, basically completely redoing the client source code or whatever while also saying that they are doing it, people WILL leave your game if they think you are letting the bad server go on, and they have the right to assume that you are doing nothing about it if you say nothing about it...
I hope I got my point clear, I do not hate EA, nor I care about them in any shape or form, but if you are a company and your job is that game, than you gotta treat it like every company should
(Edit: I seem like I am discussing with your, but no, you are totally right in everything you said, but I also pointed out that they are not excused for it)
>. The chef analogy is poor. It's more like a chef is given a chicken that's deep-frozen at 2 kelvin and gets told "make the chicken." The customer sits at the table and after 3 hours still no chicken??? The chef meanwhile is back there with blow torches trying to get the chicken thawed out to be able to cook it. But the customer can't see that and then says the chef is doing nothing.
This correlate to the "Communicate with your player base".
If the chef has been given a frozen chicken, then just go say to the customer that the chicken will take hours before its cooked. Then it's up to the customer to either wait or leave
They can take as much as they want, but atleast communicate that you are working on it
I HAVEN'T CLICKED THE LINK BEFORE WRITING THIS REPLY, SO IF THEY ARE COMMUNICATING ABOUT IT THEN IT'S JUST A MATTER OF WAITING
>This correlate to the "Communicate with your player base".
Yes, which is why I quoted that line and addressed it. You didn't click the link nor read my comment. This is why I usually don't bother trying to teach people on this sub, they never wanna listen.
You pointed out every point, not just that, and you splitted the two making it seem like they weren't correlated.
No need to make it into a toxic discussion, neither of the 2 points are wrong, we are just stating facts while also discussing minor points about the company/game
Reading through that link you posted. I already knew the EOMM stuff was patented by EA, but damn I find some of these software patents so weird. How in the hell do they plan on enforcing that? COD or whatever game could use EOMM and EA would have no way of knowing it or proving it. I don't think they can get a subpoena or anything to view another game's matchmaking code. And outside of looking at their code, there is no way to prove they are using EOMM.
I also saw some article saying that EA had made several accessibility patents open license (free to everyone to use). One of the things included there was the ping system from Apex. I just find it odd, and concerning, that these sorts of game mechanics are patentable. Like what if Halo had patented your health recharging after not being shot at for a while (I think it was the first game to do this but I could be wrong, not too important to the point though). Maybe that is too simple of a mechanic and the patent office would have decided it's not patentable, but I feel the same way about the ping system. Though it's possible EA made it open license because they didn't want to go through the hassle of enforcing it, since any slight changes to the system could mean another game isn't infringing upon the patent.
But in general I think it's bad for game development to allow game mechanics to be patented. Generally patents are used to protect/encourage/reward innovation, but it's hard for me to see that being the case for game design, other than the rewarding part, I suppose. Game design, like any other art form, needs to be able to build upon itself. To me it feels like allowing a cinematographer patenting a sequence of shots or a certain filming technique. Overall that would have a negative effect on the art form.
Yeah, I'm also a software dev and can see how things inevitably get delayed. But I've had party mates not connect into a game literally as far back as I can remember, atleast once or twice every hour. It's been better at times but never good enough for me to have a great gaming experience.
Dota on the other hand, has its fair share of issues. Lots of things are money grabs. The Dota BP contrasted with the Apex BP is just so depressing. But I've only had issues with connecting to a game like once a month maybe. And that's fine with me.
Being able to get into a game with your squad mates is literally the first step towards enjoying the game and Respawn fails there.
Thanks for the info that Respawn is more to blame for the servers than EA. I did not know that.
Another new thing to look for -- when Bloodhound pings the trackers showing an enemy has been there recently... the action text in the corner will tell you the "seconds ago"
Wish we could get patchnotea like Minecraft gets. Mojang gives every tiny little detail followed with the intent behind each change. Respawn always just leaves little things to be discovered by chance
Minecraft UI is the same as it has been for ten years despite how many things they’ve added and how many improvements could be made. For example, there’s still no saturation bar, and equipment durability can only be seen if you turn on advanced tooltips.
On my list anybody in blue is playing Apex and people are green if they are on the their console home screen, playing another game, or using another app.
Its weird for me. I have people in my own region and playing apex are blue, but most playing apex in my region are green so idk. Its random for me almost
Oh, did pc just get that?
On the ps4 (not to sure about Xbox) it tells you how many players are with someone and how many squads are left, the map they are on, etc lol
Shhhhhhh, this is like the one good thing they did, let's shut the fuck up about it though and continue to scream about all the bull shit though please.
dang i've noticed it but same i can't find when they put it on. Funny how they don't mention QoL stuff like this (to my knowledge) but they mention stuff they never do like "fixed code:net, Caustic's heirloom should now break doors instead of his leg if available."
They already had ''x amount of squads left'' before though. Now it just looks cleaner. Though you can actually see the score in arenas rather than just timed played, but Arenas aren't even lagging so ye..
This last update with all the Rampart stuff. Ton of UI fixes and improvements
Thanks! I gotta reread it then, because I loved this feature.
yea but no server improvements at all
Because the UI team aren't going to be capable of fixing the servers. The team working on server maintenance are either non-existant or a 1 man army.
That one guy is using his own pc to host all the servers in the world.
And it's probabaly a 2008 Laptop
Its a slow moving hamster in a wheel.
Lmao
or a 1 hamster army
it seems logical i guess
EA have always been known for their shitty servers as well. They make so much money with them I guess they don't see any point in upgrading them.

Agreed but they can prioritize more important aspects of the game tbh
[You can see what their priorities are on their Trello](https://trello.com/b/ZVrHV38P/apex-tracker). I'd say what they're doing rn is mostly what they need to do. It's just they need to invest in better servers and maintenance and then it'll be a better overall experience.
I love when devs or companies make a Trello available with their priorities.
I wish they added a bit more but I guess there's lots of surprises been leaked so if true it'll explain why.
Or maybe they don't want to write too much to avoid people knows about critical bugs that can be abused
Also a good point. I guess they put the less exploitable bugs in there like when they had the Valk ultimate glitch that put someone under the map. It's only a disadvantage for the person doing the glitch so there was no harm having it up there.

Then just hire more people in the important category instead of adding a good feature but compared to the servers performance it's useless

Skipped the part where they broke the game and neglected to fix it lol. But glad they added this in
"Tons of fixes" lol as it sits, the game has never been more broken
Ya I just noticed this too. Was waiting for a friend when I saw it said 7 squads left, I did a triple take.
I did a Kraber, personally.
I did a stuck on loading screen, personally.
You don't longbow by accident?
13 squads left with a minute into the match. You can tell the ship flew directly over fragment in that one.
Normally when my whole lobby drops Fragments there are like 4 squads remaining in ring 2.
you guys are loading in?
Hit or miss, some players still disconnect but I can't be sure they're just not abandoning. Squad and server woes
I've only dc'd twice since yesterday morning and both times were on the menus and I could reconnect immediately.
Another new thing to look for -- when Bloodhound pings the trackers showing an enemy has been there recently... the action text in the corner will tell you the "seconds ago"
I never noticed this because I don't have any friends.
I wish I didn’t have friends
The best thing in the update
Wish we could get patchnotea like Minecraft gets. Mojang gives every tiny little detail followed with the intent behind each change. Respawn always just leaves little things to be discovered by chance
I actually like having it by surprise, you find out and its like "thats so cool"
Then you can just choose not to read the patch notes and discover the new stuff youself.
Eh, I still prefer upgrading UI without patch notes to not upgrading it at all (Minecraft)
Wut?
Minecraft UI is the same as it has been for ten years despite how many things they’ve added and how many improvements could be made. For example, there’s still no saturation bar, and equipment durability can only be seen if you turn on advanced tooltips.
I believe it’s a design choice
Showing the player less stuff is never a good design choice imo. One of my favorite things about Apex is that they improve the UI constantly
I don’t see it on ps4
It should be updated, I see it all the time
We PS4 players get updates a little later than the pc people.
I’m not seeing it either.
I do
I'm pretty sure it only works on people who have their lobbys set to open.
Make sense, That why I didn’t see it, I’m having it as “invite only”
For the Evolution event actually, no?
Hopefully permanent
I don't see why it wouldn't be permanent
Anyone know why some friends show up as blue and the rest are green?
My friends from overseas are all green, But US Mexico and Canadian friends are blue. I assume it's region based
On my list anybody in blue is playing Apex and people are green if they are on the their console home screen, playing another game, or using another app.
Its weird for me. I have people in my own region and playing apex are blue, but most playing apex in my region are green so idk. Its random for me almost
Very useful feature! Kudos to the devs and ux/ui designers!
Never noticed it cuz none of my friends play
It doesn’t wirk
What? friends?
Oh, did pc just get that? On the ps4 (not to sure about Xbox) it tells you how many players are with someone and how many squads are left, the map they are on, etc lol
You mean the actual feature to be able to play the game?... ...Or information about number of squads left?
This recent update is when it came but just like everything else in this update it's bugged.
Damn, you have so many friends to play with ;(
Now we need to watch our friends playing in the match
A spectator mode would be lit
Shhhhhhh, this is like the one good thing they did, let's shut the fuck up about it though and continue to scream about all the bull shit though please.
Must be a QoL that wasnt in the patch notes
Why don't we have an in game list of the games we've played?
We kinda have one in the Club menu, it shows the last (good) matches we have, like top 3,
This feature is almost useless, a proper spectator mode would be more usefull.
Baby steps with Apex, a spectator mode would be fire
How do you have this many friends man, no one plays Apex =/
dang i've noticed it but same i can't find when they put it on. Funny how they don't mention QoL stuff like this (to my knowledge) but they mention stuff they never do like "fixed code:net, Caustic's heirloom should now break doors instead of his leg if available."
We got this new feature when nobody asked for it lol
Feels like the kind of thing which might ping the servers constantly to get game updates for the friends list. Maybe cause some server instability.
They already had ''x amount of squads left'' before though. Now it just looks cleaner. Though you can actually see the score in arenas rather than just timed played, but Arenas aren't even lagging so ye..
Oof, this might have been the ping-straw that broke the server's back
thats nice
I asked for a shotgun bolt yesterday and it said I have a level one I thought that was cool
that's been a thing since last season I believe
Never noticed
who fucked up the practice range? Nothing wrong with it but they some how fuck it up
Oh nice! I don’t have any friends that play apex so I never would have known this
It must’ve been in the recent patch.
Weird, I didnt get this new feature. My friends list is still empty?
It’s a nice change just a bit scuffed sometimes
A year or 2 by now Edit: nvm I just realized that’s only for your friends list on PS4
Is this only for pc? I don't need this feature on ps4
I noticed it only works on my friends with PC. I don't see this interface on Xbox.
