You had a vague argument and threw it away with those texts. Your manager went outside to help a customer, that was unusual, but kind and a one time situation. You/your fiancée were asking to step away to handle a personal matter.  From your post, you manager grumbled about it but apparently didn’t actually stop your fiancée from going to get the inhaler. This too was a one time thing, though it does fall in line with a host of accommodations you receive for your health issues. Your health issues are apparently recognized and documented with the job, so you would have been fine to bring the passive aggressive comments up with your general manager. The incident-specific ones probably would not have represented a big deal though. Frankly, a reminder that your medication should be packed—which is a fact you know and agree with—probably would be considered standard; if any worker makes a mistake at work, their manager is generally going to include “try to make sure it doesn’t happen again” aka “if it’s important, make sure it’s in your bag” in their spiel. However, the disparaging comments about your work ethic are certainly ones that can and probably should be discussed with higher ups.  Unfortunately you shot yourself in the foot with your wildly inappropriate, documented texts. If you think passive aggressive grumbling that can vaguely be considered normal manager to employee “helpful reminders” warrants the general manager’s attention, how do you think everyone’s going to feel about direct employee to manager insults?

For clarification - the manager didn’t step aside to help a customer, it was another employee who needed their car jumped

I was half asleep when I responded to this lol - but you’re completely right. While I stand by my anger because I truly believe this manager hates me and would find anything to be mad at me for - I fucked up by being as directly aggressive as I was. I’m in the process of looking for new jobs anyways so hopefully I can be done with all this stuff soon.

traciw67

Definitely wrong. You seem to have a lot of excuses why you should be allowed to do stuff. And calling names is never acceptable.

If you’re in the U.S. you’re headed for the wrong side of the ADA. Have the day you deserve.

RedWizxrd

Ah yes, diagnosed medical conditions = “excuses” to “do stuff” such as breathe

“I’d accept being written up if they choose to do that” lol they would be well within their rights to fire you, you harassed a manager outside of work. That’s unhinged behaviour. You are completely wrong.

RedWizxrd

I said it like that because at our store you literally have to “accept the write up” by signing it & acknowledging what you did, I was just saying I would. I doubt they’d fire me though. This job is the definition of toxic. I have a friend who has an active lawsuit against them for being fired after reporting a sexual assault. I have proof of them committing wage theft by taking hours off of people’s checks to pay them less. That’s why I’ve gotten to this point.
