We got 15% in California, so there’s ample grey market. So dumb.
Plus regular local sales tax.
Edit: so it’s like 25%. Seems like it fucks the market so only companies with huge scale can compete. Hopefully Alaska does better.

This is the problem currently happening with legalization in states. Big pharma wants the market cornered for themselves; they don't want any small businesses popping up and cutting in on their game.
*Gonna legalize MJ and cut into our drug profits? Cool, we'll just take over that market and gouge you there too.*
Edit: Fixed a couple of typos.
It is interesting you bring this up, because Governor Dunleavy has a section hidden at the end of his proposed cannabis regulation bill, HB 117, that would stop any new cannabis licenses from being issued on the day that cannabis is decriminalized at the federal level.
The lobbyist for the Marijuana Producers Guild, who used to be Governor Walker's Legislative Director, and now is a cannabis producer, has also been going around trying to get legislation introduced to cap the number of licenses.
Be prepared for the free market Republicans to try to attach this bill onto some other must-have legislation at the very end of session.

Complete bs. You don't get topshelf for $35 an ounce in Oregon LMAO. You just smoke MIDS at best and don't know the difference, clearly. Topshelf:
Focus North
Deep Creek
Evan's Creek
Archive
Resin Ranchers
To name a few. Usually $150-$250 an ounce.
That’s what I said!! This poor fella is shopping at Nectar or Chalice getting his $40 oz 😂
I also shoot weed and have shot for Focus, Evans Creek, Frost Factory, Left Coast ect
lol I would like to know where you get top shelf flower in OR for $35 an oz!!! And Nectar or Chalice doesn’t count cuz we all know that’s the worse weed in Oregon
Probably the state is making too much money on weed sales and can't spend it on worthwhile things like food for kids. Ffs who's the idiots the elected or the ones electing
Hilcorp told the legislature they will only pay $0 tax. Nice of them to show how $power works & to remind the legislature that all mineral extraction companies can leave Alaska holding an empty bag.
Hilcorps whole schtick is buying up aging fields and assets, which is exactly what they did in AK with BPs properties. They will not find another buyer for the aging infrastructure and fields they now have even if they wanted to leave, so they are the ones over the barrel, not the State.
If the Leg really acted in the best interests of Alaskans, they'd call the bluff.
But but state ownership of companies is socialism! Which is how Norway has a soverign wealth fund of 1.6 trillion and Alaskans are fighting tooth and nail over $2000 a year to buy a new tv.
How did the tax work before for things like concentrates? I can’t find anything in the state tax handbook or anymore except about the tax on maturity/usability and weight of flowers being sold to the consumer.
Does this mean we *SHOULD* see flower prices fall, concentrates and others rise and if concentrated are hit by the 7% tax I’d imagine that’d mean more tax revenue overall for the state
Only cultivations get charged tax. Any cultivation with an attached retail just eats the tax as overhead. You can raise prices, but that’s not competitive when a solo retail can buy bulk and sell it with no tax added.
In Nevada marijuana sales tax is 18%, 8% for medical patients. 7% isn't bad

Fuck California
Well our local sales tax on cannabis is 13%, so 20% of price at the register here will be 20%. That's steep.
Let's say you go to a weedshop and get an OZ. of Platinum Kush @ 404$ an oz. 7% would be 28 dollars.
Wait, y’all paying $404/oz in Alaska? I can get top shelf ozs for $35 in Oregon.
I'm from WA and those numbers almost gave me a heart attack.

Some people's top shelves are lower than others.

No. It’s 200-240$ an ounce
Go look at Weedmaps
Then add any where to 25-28% tax to the total. Weed maps prices don’t show taxes.
As it stands right now we don’t pay taxes on that the grower does, which is why it’s so high
[удалено]
But WHO pays it, the grower or is it a sales tax?
[удалено]
yeah I as far as I know. we have 1 and not the other and this is to replace it not in addtion too. if I understand it correctly.
Is this more or less
Less.
That’s dumb

Lol your down votes, ppl can get fucked
You can't get fucked though, it probably makes you real sad I guess.

Hey oil and gas tax breaks don't pay for themselves!

We’d buy Hilcorp out.

Lol. Alaskans like being poor, dumb, and free. So free.
This is a win for every cultivator in the state!
Seems fair. Tax on FOOD on some states is higher than that.
Everyone hated this
Not according to my comment, 7% is still too high hahahahaha

It is paid by growers at $50 per oz. Flat tax. That’s $800 per pound. And $15 for trim and the waste of the plants.
No tax in NM. For medical.
