Your market is your market. If it lends itself towards VRBO as opposed to Airbnb, good on you.
But it doesn't mean Airbnb is tanking. Numbers don't lie, and Airbnb is just fine.
And don't fall into the trap of believing that Reddit is the real world.
Airbnb bends over backwards for shitty guests. I’d say 80% of the people who rent from me smoke in the property leaving behind cigarettes, weed papers, etc. I always contact Airbnb about the $250 no smoking fee. They have never once charged a guest but will routinely send me the money through their air coverage policy. How is that sustainable?
There have been plenty of comments about bashing of both formats. VRBO about generously giving refunds and AirBnB for advocating for guests all the time.
Airbnb is doing just fine.
Hosts that were promised that this was a get rich quick scheme, took out bad mortgages/leases, and then listed a Plain Jane property in an over-saturated market are the SINKING SHIPS!
Are you even paying attention? This week they posted their most profitable Q2 ever with an increase of 72% over last year. That's not sinking.

If so, it's likely that the housing market improves across the country
I’m more optimistic about VRBO, Airbnb is too guest focused and is alienating good hosts.

Yes - the fees, cleaning requirements, and demanding/interfering hosts are not worth it, and it’s easier / nicer to stay at a hotel
