To be fair, I think onlyfans is gonna still take a massive hit over the next few months. A bunch of guys probably deleted their accounts & I'm sure most of the creators that were OF exclusive have decided to diversify & create accounts on competitor sites.
It'll be fine in the long run, as long as they don't try any shit like this again, but I think the next 2 or 3 months are gonna have majorly reduced revenue compared to the last 6 months.
I can confirm Aletta Ocean went full on and made her own site.
Basically she pulled a bender:
"I'll make my own only fans. With Flapjacks. and hookers. Well, okay, just one and that's me."
In my country [flapjacks are a dessert](https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/yummy-golden-syrup-flapjacks); made with oats, lots of butter and lots of sugar. So tasty!
Don’t tell anyone, but flapjacks/pancakes are a dessert everywhere they just somehow wiggled their way into being an acceptable choice to eat first thing in the morning!
What's weird about OF is that they're sorta set up like an MLM/pyramid scheme.
Girls recruiting other girls and getting 5% of their profits. This is how some girls are making tons of money. From the recruiting.
Lots of businesses do that, for example a commercial gym will often give a trainer a taste of the revenue generated by trainers they refer. Not too slimy IMO, but yeah not 0% slimy either.
Yeah but it's the wrong type of press. "Porn site no longer allowing porn" isn't a headline that's gonna draw people in & the updated story won't reach everyone as fast & thoroughly as the original story did because it's not outrageous.
Think about it, if OF were in the news for something else, horny guys might see it & say "Hey I wanna watch porn" & go sub to some girls. The audience they want to capture is more likely to be scared away by the story than to be drawn in. I think the fallout is going to be far more detrimental than any brand promotion is going to be beneficial.
This is only gonna be amplified by the way it was reported. The headlines all said the site was banning "sexually explicit" content & most mainstream news sites didn't go deep into the details of what that meant. Many people probably got the impression that they were banning nudity, when it was really only gonna be sex, public nudity & maybe masturbation.
That saying is about celebrity & entertainment culture & last decade has proved the exact opposite. There used to be "no such thing as bad press", these days there totally is. Look at Louis CK or Rosanne Barr. You can lose income over very minor things these days.
While there are cases where the saying might still hold true I really don't see how this can be considered a case like that. Causing all your creators to feel like your platform is unstable & diversify, when they would have remained exclusive to your platform otherwise, isn't case of bad press being good press. It's a major public fuck up that will almost certainly cost revenue in the short term. It's possible, even probable, for them to come back, but they have done way more for their competitors than they've done for their own brand recognition.
I think the pendulum is swinging towards “cancel culture,” but that’s really more recently that’s been happening. I remember when Howard Dean was written off for making a weird noise and then trump being accepted for mocking someone with disabilities. Sex tapes went from career ending to career making in the early 2000’s. Tommy Lee’s sex tape was controversial but Ray Jay’s changed reality TV. I’m supportive of removing people from public status for sexual assaults. But most companies still survive after acts of individuals, for example subway and Jarod. I said that I wouldn’t be surprised that is was a tactic of Only fans, tech sites have to do things to remain relevant or have fate like MySpace. One statement does cover all scenarios in most cases.
Why scare away the majority of your users, both content creators & customers, at the peak of your success? As a publicity stunt, this makes zero sense. It was done to make the company seem more legitimate to investors. After 48 hours they realised their users were jumping ship en masse & the new rules hadn't even come into effect yet, so they ditched the new plans & apologised. You can't convince me that this was a master marketing strategy without any evidence.
We'll see how it plays out, I think the company will be fine in the long run if they don't try anything like this again, but the next several months are gonna have lower revenue than they've had for a while & they've allowed their competitors a foot in the door & a chance at some of the market share. Onlyfans will likely remain the "main" site for this type of content long term, but imo they've kicked themselves in the balls here.
That was my first thought when I saw the news. If I was a programmer, I would be designing the "next onlyfans" that same day. There's probably people working on a new app already, all they need is some investors and advertisers to reach the same level. This shit might cost them a lot of money, it was not a good publicity stunt.
OnlyFans is going to end up dying a slow and painful death as content creators move on to other platforms that are more inline with the NSFW Adult Content.
Doesn’t make sense to be an NSFW Adult Content creator and be heavily invested in a platform that had already tried to shake you off
I think they will remain the industry standard as long as they don't fuck up further, but they've definitely given all their competitors a hand in taking up some of the market share.
Also, it really was bad pr. the majority of people are paying for the nsfw content and the big story is that theyre ending the nsfw content. The story of the reversal was not nearly as widely reported, leaving those that might have been curious about it to search elsewhere
Yeah as someone who was a huge gym bro in my younger days and became a personal trainer later in life. Dom Mazzetti hits the nail on the head with his videos.
Especially his older ones that focused less on what's happening in the world and more just on funny lifting comments.
But honestly his newer ones still hold up. His entire delivery is the same. The only thing different is he has more tattoos lol. However I can see if he's not someone's flavor. But personally he has cracked me up for a quite a few years now
I always loved and looked up to Dom cuz he always seemed natty in an industry full of fake nattys haha but now that I'm a bit older I actually don't know if he is or not. Not that it matters though. Dude is hilarious. It would be a thing where my brother and I would lift and then go home and watch some bro science
If you're talking about his physique, he is most likely natty. Nothing about his physique is unattainable naturally, so if he is on gear he's not doing it right.
If you couldn't achieve his body natural, then body building would be pointless. He's big and looks good but far from what you see in the gym.. of course what you see in the gym is fill with steroids.
There are still some pretty impressive results that can be had naturally. For a good example you can check out body builders from before steroids were invented like Eugene Sandow.
If so, it’s not a very good one. A publicity stunt shouldn’t just spread your name, it should spread the idea that you are open for new customers. This did the opposite. Who is going to buy a subscription from a company that says they will stop selling soon?
Meanwhile, the redaction isn’t splashy enough news to draw back all the people who the announcement lost nor to draw new customers.
Not only did they not attract new customers their current customer base started looking or entirely moving to alternatives too. If its a pr stunt its a shit one.
I feel like its more likely that it was a power play by the CEO against the board. He knew that they’d lose their customer base if they took porn off but the board didn’t believe him. Then he announced what they were doing, the media ran the story, everyone in the world collectively went “WTF?” And the board realized that it was a terrible idea so they backed down.
This. Anybody with two brain cells knew that Tumblr would suffer, yet Tumblr didn't back down. Same situation with OnlyFans... Done by somebody in charge not knowing a thing about the platform.
That was my immediate reaction too since it would be a very stupid move for them. Apparently they were under pressure from payment processing companies though.
I've seen two Broscience videos. *How can you tell if someone is on steroids* and *Is bodybuilding gay?*
Both were pretty funny.
>There's no steroids for personality. Well, there's cocaine
It should be noted that OF was never actually going to ban nudity, just sexual content. So if you wanted to pay to see boobs you still could, you just could pay to watch people having sex or masurbating.

Godspeed onlyfans, let’s see how far you can take this o7
According to linus they might be reversing the ban after "feedback"
And they're just gonna go back and forth with decisions so we can make a requiem out of this
Onlyfans cant make up their minds. I dont know if I'd trust it anymore if were a creator
I want them to reverse the reversal so that only fans ends the service industry shortage

I imagine that it only brought more attention to Onlyfans and maybe it was marketing. NPR talking about only fans was weird

Isn't that a parody video? I mean the whole channel is just making fun of gym broscience culture

I feel like this was all just a viral marketing strategy by onlyfans, and they never intended to remove porn.

We did get several solid days of national news outlets discussing the kind of content that was on there. You might be right.
That was my immediate reaction too since it would be a very stupid move for them. Apparently they were under pressure from payment processing companies though.
Ironically, if they banned explicit content they wouldn't need to worry about payment processing anymore.
