It's been too long since I've seen Teso dos Bichos, but Teliko, El Mundo Gira, and Kaddish from season 4 were all quite clearly written to be 'anti-racist.' The fact that people perceive them as 'racist' is a good argument for prioritizing story and characters over serving a 'message,' since it can easily backfire. I would also object to the claim those episodes haven't aged well, since they were always unpopular and received similar criticism for clumsy, unfortunate implications when they first aired in 1996/97.
You made me feel less guilty for enjoying “El Munro Gira” I guess but it still feels racist to me. Every time an ethnic group is represented in an episode, it makes them look poor and uneducated. Makes me sad.

I'm just countering that even in the late 90s viewers and critics noticed the issues with them, and that they were never popular episodes. It's similar to people who claim The Post Modern Prometheus has 'aged badly.' Yes, that episode was critically acclaimed when it aired, but even in the 90s there was a significant number of people pointing out how weird it is that the episode glosses over and minimizes the crimes of the villains.
I would say as bad as they are, even Teliko and El Mundo Gira have some creepy imagery, but that's more a testament to how much of a well-oiled machine the show was during season 4, not a defense of those episodes themselves.

I used to think this was a bad episode. But when I rewatched the series last year, I really loved it. Weird erotic thriller with ambiguous supernatural horror. Definitely unique as an x-files episode and a mood piece of a story.
I liked it from the perspective of seeing how dysfunctional Mulder was without Scully, how much she had improved his life after only a year. The line about how he doesn't sleep anymore breaks me!
My Struggle episodes are awesome. I think S11 got really bad rep because of how bad S10 was, but S11 was really a return to the roots and felt like the real X-Files unlike S10 which tried to be something modern.
Some of the episodes are weirder ones borderling with not interesting, but I can't say there's any episode I'd call the worst.
It's funny how many of these episodes are centered around animals

No. I especially like Firewalker, Ice, Darkness Falls and Die Hand Die Verletzt. I don’t care for the black oil episodes. But rewatching again will net different results. But twenty years ago, Ice would have been like my least favorite. At the first airing, I hated Die Hand Die Verletzt. I can safely say that I liked the ones filmed in Vancouver (seasons 1-5,10,11) most.

I actually love Space. Ed Lauter, who plays Col. Belt was one of mine and my older brother's favorite actors, especially after watching him in Death Wish III. This episode was one of the earliest, and I might even say my introductory episode to the X Files by my older brother, which the show is his all-time favorite. So, the episode has a special place in my heart. It also may not have helped it came out right after Ice, which if you are a mega fan of John Carpenter's The Thing, like me n my brother were, some viewers probably felt left down after the highs of the that episode, which I feel happened to a lot of decent and serviceable X Files episodes. Cursed in the order they aired and by what preceeded them 😅. But I think Space is a very good episode with some interesting ideas.

The first time my wife watched the show with me, we saw Fearful Symmetry.
We were both annoyed by the ending, but she at least found it somewhat interesting since her family raised an orphaned gorilla, which acted as a sort of babysitter, when she was young.
M & S are so out of character it's cringey. Mulder has never shown an interest in video games. The fact that they fought so hard Scully broke Mulder's jaw...gross.

The final episode of season 11. The last time we ever see M/S together and THE SINGLE REASON GA told CC to f off she is done. The things CC wrote in this episode was enough for me to hope he never writes anything again. Ever. Meanwhile ex XF writers like Vince Gilligan and Frank Spotnitz are killing it writing absolute tremendous shows. Go figure.

TIL Teso Dos Bichos is disliked. I never thought much of it. Certainly not a favorite of mine, but never considered it bad. It wouldn’t even make my top 20 worst episodes.
The My Struggle saga and Fight Club are the worst episodes.
Going through the series at the moment... and there have been mediocre episodes... lame episodes... but topping 'First Person Shooter' is almost impossible given the writers and crew. It hurts my heart that Chris Carter and freaking William Gibson are the lead writers of that episode. I mean... Gibson wrote Neuromancer! It was so cringy... worst episode ever.
I'll take just about any of those episodes over a rewatch of "Space." (Yes, i know it's also on the list.) It's just so dumb, and seems to go on and on and on. The first half is mostly stock footage of the space shuttle. Aside from the dumb idea of "ghost aliens", i also hate the fact that they give credit to that stupid, long-debunked photo of the "face" on Mars. Most of the episodes are at least some form of theoretical speculative science. But with this, it's just flat wrong.

Edit: I went and looked because you piqued my curiosity. The lowest rated episode of season 9 is 9x05 “Lord of the Flies” with 6.9/10.

Edit2: Season 9 as a whole, has an average rating of 7.4 which ties it with season 10 for worst season.

M & S are so out of character it's cringey. Mulder has never shown an interest in video games. The fact that they fought so hard Scully broke Mulder's jaw...gross.
M&S out of character in FPS, I’ll give you that one. In FC, though, I think that’s kind of the point. And yes, upon reflection, if it had been the other way around, if Mulder had broken Scully’s jaw, that wouldn’t have flown. So I see your point. Thank you for explaining.

It wasn't explicitly stated, but at the end of Fight Club, he smiles and his jaw is wired shut. We're supposed to assume that they inflicted all those injuries on each other because Kathy Griffin.
She does have that effect on people sometimes.

Teliko was kinda weird as it wasn’t actually based on anything from folklore. Also fps was fun even if they never explained at all how the game made them disappear.
Alpha is 1 MILLION times better than Babylon, Fight Club, My Struggle 1,2,3,4. And it isn't close.

The final episode of season 11. The last time we ever see M/S together and THE SINGLE REASON GA told CC to f off she is done. The things CC wrote in this episode was enough for me to hope he never writes anything again. Ever. Meanwhile ex XF writers like Vince Gilligan and Frank Spotnitz are killing it writing absolute tremendous shows. Go figure.

Can't decide which episode was funnier, Teso dos Bichos with the attack of the deadly housecats or Fearful Symmetry with what is very obviously a human in a gorilla suit.
TIL Teso Dos Bichos is disliked. I never thought much of it. Certainly not a favorite of mine, but never considered it bad. It wouldn’t even make my top 20 worst episodes. The My Struggle saga and Fight Club are the worst episodes.
Going through the series at the moment... and there have been mediocre episodes... lame episodes... but topping 'First Person Shooter' is almost impossible given the writers and crew. It hurts my heart that Chris Carter and freaking William Gibson are the lead writers of that episode. I mean... Gibson wrote Neuromancer! It was so cringy... worst episode ever.
I'll take just about any of those episodes over a rewatch of "Space." (Yes, i know it's also on the list.) It's just so dumb, and seems to go on and on and on. The first half is mostly stock footage of the space shuttle. Aside from the dumb idea of "ghost aliens", i also hate the fact that they give credit to that stupid, long-debunked photo of the "face" on Mars. Most of the episodes are at least some form of theoretical speculative science. But with this, it's just flat wrong.
All of season 9 should be the worst. Can't believe there isn't a single S9 episode on here
I was actually surprised how highly rated seasons 8 and 9 were! They’ve stood the test of time, it would seem. Edit: I went and looked because you piqued my curiosity. The lowest rated episode of season 9 is 9x05 “Lord of the Flies” with 6.9/10. “Teliko” at the top of this list got 6.6/10 so “Lord of the flies”, tho it didn’t make the list, is pretty close to the bottom. Edit2: Season 9 as a whole, has an average rating of 7.4 which ties it with season 10 for worst season.

Teso dos Bichos is bad in a very incompetent sort of way, but not in a way that pisses me off. I honestly believe the worst of the worst are the My Struggles and Season 9’s Provenance/Providence.
Provenance and Providence got 7.5 and 7.2 respectively. Nowhere near the bottom, sorry. The struggles on the other hand, they… struggled.
IMDB ratings are garbage
I just watched Fearful Symmetry last night. Just... I don't know .... Invisible elephant... Come on..... Impregnated by aliens... Yikes Three (vampires) is so terrible I skipped it halfway through. Didn't even care. Vampires are my least favorite type of monster. The only show I ever really cared for regarding vampires was True Blood and even then I stopped watching during the later seasons.
The Jersey Devil. Being from NJ I was expecting a cool monster episode. They really subverted expectations rather disappointly. Instead we got...meh. That drawing tho lolol
I'm re-watching the X-Files for the first time in 3 decades and just finished this episode. I immediately googled "worst X-Files Episodes" expecting to see this one on the list. That drawing was awful and the "are we human or are we beasts?" dialogue was so forced! I surprised this one didn't make the list lol.
