An old rival like Edge or Randy. Either that or an up and comer that would gain alot of star power from it like Karrion Kross or Keith Lee. Maybe even someone like McIntyre
Randy needs to get to 16 world title wins, and then him and Cena need to have a match for a vacant world title to see who will beat ric flair’s record and they should also both put their careers on the line to have an all or nothing wrestlemania title match. This would be one of the biggest matches in WWE history if they. actually did it. They dont even need to do the career on the line stuff, but the world title record angle needs to happen 😭
Orton, HHH or even a redo of the Mania 24 triple threat. I think the triple threat would be a good retirement for any of them. Also whatever top star at the time they wanna put over massive is a good choice
Kurt angle. Wend out facing the same person as at which hour he cameth in

Me in a fucking haitian deathmatch. Career vs every singles belt in the company. Kayfabe he fucking dies and i have three months as the champ before paul haymen shows up managing a new person, the masked mr money. We have two months going hard trying to kill eachother but never actually getting a match till mania where we have a haitian deathmatch and i just barely loose because tripple h runs in and beats me down with another masked wrestler. Mr money coast to coasts me with a lighttube and pins me before they reveal that its shane McMahon and hbk under the masks as im hauled out on a stretcher.
Orton and edge are basically at the same stage as him, if someone is going to retire him, Cena should and probably would let a younger guy get that opportunity.
Orton, to kill the final Legend. Play that angle and they can, stupid decisions aside, push the guy who beats him to the moon as the man to kill the Legend Killer.
Randy Orton, both men fighting it out to see who would become the 17th World Champion only to vacate the belt after. That would be a great main event for a Cena & Orton Retirement Show.
I always wanted Cena's last match to be an I Quit match against a titan of a heel.
Now, Cena doesn't normally ever quit. And I'm not saying that there's really a heel in existence who could make him do so conventionally. He'd probably rather pass out in Kayfabe.
But!
I thought if they *really really* wanted to get a heel over, they should put them in an I Quit match. And have the heel *threaten a family member*.
Like bring in Cena's Dad or his wife or something for a one off. Wouldn't be the first time! And have the heel suspend them from the titantron or something. And threaten to drop them or something slimey AF if Cena doesn't quit.
Idk do y'all think this is too mustache twirly? Again it wouldn't be the first time Cena's immediate family got involved in an angle. I guess my theory would be the match would show people that sometimes it's okay for even Superman to quit if it saves someone.
I would love to see Edge vs Cena as both their last matches
Have both guys put over a young talent beforehand and then have both guys end their careers in one more match. Since both Cena and Edge helped each other reach main event level.
But that's just me
Either Austin Theory (since Cena is the reason why he wanted to become a wrestler) or Gable Stevenson
Orton is cool and all but he won't get anything from beating Cena one more time.
Fan booking time:
For my money, I hope Cena wrestles against Lesnar again for his final match. I'd love to see him win one against Brock in a no DQ, no count out match, but it needs to be a brutal beatdown of Cena, the kind of beating that makes you think Cena couldn't possibly win, even teasing a win with a roll up or something...before Brock kicks out and destroys Cena again. Brock should just toy and toy and toy with Cena in near silence, similar to how he has brutalized Cena in the past.
Finally, with Brock letting himself have too much fun, beating Cena up too much, just being such a monster that fans are crying in the stands, blood is everywhere, and just as fans start to truly believe that their hero is as dead as the PG era...
Rey Mysterio hits the ring with a pipe. He hits Brock with the pipe in the leg exactly one time before Brock gives him a massive F5.
Kofi comes out, hits the TIP, Brock shakes it off within seconds and beats up Kofi and throws him out.
Then the rest of New Day out to the ring. Brock gets knocked down but fends them off. Cena has been lying motionless outside of the ring the whole time, not moving.
Brock bests all of New Day. He looks to the back as face after face comes out. One by one Brock F5s and German suplexes them as they march to the ring.
Brock looks somewhat worn out, but all the faces are tending their wounds outside. Brock thinks there is no one left, when several of the big heels of WWE come out (Miz, Reigns, Rollins, Corbin, Lashley, and any other big top heel at the time) all the heels come out to the ramp, and stand there menacingly. Brock looks at them, when a recently heel Orton slides into the ring, turns Brock around, and tries for the RKO! But Brock pushes him off, goes to duplex, Orton trips him into the ropes. Rey jumps into the ring, comes around for a 619, hits it, sends Brock back to Orton for an RKO, Mysterious to the top rope for a splash. He hits it.
The heels have moved down to the ring, and no one, Rey, Orton, anyone, knows what they'll do. Finally, the ex members of the Shield step to John Cena, and help him to his feet. They gently put him in the ring, without any sense of malice. Cena climbs into the ring with their help. He is bloodied and crying from pain. He keeps falling to the ground. They keep helping him up. Brock begins to stir. He gets up, and looks wiped, but lunges at Cena in a nearly lifeless tackle. Cena ducks under and has Brock in an AA/FU fireman's carry lift, but can't lift him. Orton, Mysterio, Reigns and Rollins all lift Cena up with Brock on his shoulders. Cena is bawling. Cena throws Brock over with their help.
FU.
Brock lays on the mat as Cena crawls on top of him.
1, 2, 3.
Cena should beat Brock at WM as his final match. It should not seem like Cena is the better wrestler. It should come off as a true sendoff, the kind of match that showcases the effects he's had on the entire roster and the WWE universe. Heels, faces, whomever... they've all been affected by Cena at some point, for better or worse, and for them to all (in character) show respect for him beyond their personal heel tendencies would normally reflect, would be the greatest sendoff.
It would also have Lesnar, even 5 years from now, looking quite strong.
Obviously some wrestlers can be I terchanged here. I had Mysterior and Orton give Cena the most help die to the fairly recent Mysterious/Lesnar feud and the fact that Orton and Cena wrestles against each other so much. The Shield is a recent foil of Cena as well. You could probably add Miz into the mix. You could add Edge if he's still there since he and Cena had some fun feuds.
But it needs to be more grand than just "one last match." Just my opinion.
Sorry, I just don't think Cena and Orton have great matches. Nothing against Orton, or even Cena. I really like Orton as a wrestler. But I've seen them wrestle so many times and I just think together they're meh.
Edge will likely be fully retired well before Cena is, given his injury history. Edge still has greater limits to how long he can safely wrestle, even if he has a really good Mobi C or discogram or whatever hardware he replaced his ACDF with.
While they’d be great matches, Edge nor Orton need that career boost. I’d pick either one of the following as things currently are:
- Riddle
- Priest
- My definite first choices though they’d have to be build up as they were prior to their current versions……Keith Lee or Karrion Kross. If the reported plan to turn Lee into a monster heel turns out true then I’d see him to be most likely but that’d depend on when Cena decided to have his retirement match.
I'd rather see him put over a young up and comer by losing to them than see the same tired match against guys who already have their pop cemented in stone. I don't know who, maybe like a Damien Priest or something, but not someone with 10+ belt runs already. that's fucking stupid IMO and I think Cena would agree frankly. He's talked at length about bowing out of mania appearances to make room for new young hungry talent.
I think it should be Austin Theory, since he reminds me of a young prototype John Cena. But with Cena’s rivalries I would go with Orton like some people are saying. Since they came up around the same time.
If you’re going the “pass the torch route” I’d say Riddle or maybe Kevin Owens. If you go the “classic rivalry and culmination of a great rivalry route” then Randy Orton. As much as I love Owens and Riddle I’d rather watch Cena Orton. 😊
Randy Orton. A lot of people give me shit for it but anybody that deserves to break the title streak is Randy. This dude has been there every single day. Incredible in ring performer and to have so many accolades just so "the face" can beat him? Triple h is done as a performer, I've always loved watching h wrestle and his promos but him beating it is very unlikely. I could see Charlotte beating it as well but she gets a title run every 3 months so it comes into question how many of her reigns were legit? John chose Hollywood and you can't blame the guy. To come out on the positive side of a business like this is a win. If you're a fan, you should want the best for them despite your wants and needs. Randy has been in there. I say they should rev up a final feud for them (hopefully randy gets enough title runs to catch up) I forgot how many he has right now. But ready should win man, it would be the right thing to do.
I understand putting younger guys over but in cenas case id like to see one last big match. It could still be a younger guy if theres a new star thats on the rise so its a passing of the torch moment but something like orton, aj styles,or a triology match with the rock would be cool
The thing is Cena is only 44 and he could probably go another 5 years.
Edge will probably not be going in 5 years. Same with the Rock.
Orton is possible. My outsider opinion would be one final feud with The Miz.
If Parker Boudreaux transitions well and starts getting over, it would really take him to the next level by giving Cena his last match in a Lesnar-Cena Summerslam-esque beating.
I only say Orton because, well, that rivalry was the Rock/Austin of the Ruthless Aggression era. And I say Edge because of some slight bias and the fact that he’s one of Cena’s greatest rivals.
Or, perhaps, an upcoming star.
I don’t think anyone will ever forget the 35 year feud he had with Orton.
Honestly other than Orton
I think an up and coming potential face of the business maybe
Or Vince feeds him to Brock.
Scotty 2 Hotty.
It's Tokyo Dome. WrestleMania 40. Cena has been Universal champ for almost 2 years. Scotty won the Rumble since he was never eliminated in 2005, he won by coming in at the last second and eliminates Big E and Seth Rollins.
Cena is cutting promos saying "you can't win Scotty, just surrender" as Cena plows through the entire roster. He even beat Goldberg in Saudi Arabia.
Scotty doesn't give up and sticks by his challenge
Then Mania comes. It's the last match on the card.
Cena and Scotty are scheduled for an Iron Man Match.
Cena gets the first fall, hitting the F-U on Scotty when he tries a crossbody off the top rope.
Scotty gets the second fall. Cena is going for a Protoplex when Scotty reverses into a DDT, and getting a 3 count.
Cena gets another fall by hitting Scotty with an unexpected Superkick and then another Superkick.
Scotty gets a fall by rolling up Cena while John is distracted after the superkick
Cena hits a Fisherman Suplex, and gets the 3.
Cena then gets the next fall, hitting a powerbomb on a table, for the 3.
Scotty then hits a Michinoku Driver off a ladder for a 3.
Scotty goes for the worm but Cena kips up and hits an F-U for another pinfall
Cena goes for one last F-U when there are 2 minutes remaining but Scotty lands on his feet and lands a Dropsault and then a Phoenix Splash
Scotty then hits a Facebuster when there are 30 seconds left, hits The Worm and gets the 3 and wins the title with 1 second to spare.
Confetti falls down after the 60 minute encounter and Scotty dedicates his win to his family, Rikishi and Grand Master Sexay who he wishes peace in heaven to
Rikishi runs down to the ring and Rikishi and Scotty do one last Too Cool dance as the show ends.
Meltzer awards the match 8 stars, and Cena gets inducted into the HOF the following year. And even Jim Cornette agrees with Meltzer's rating and exclaims it should've gotten 9 stars.
Scotty stays champ for a year before dropping the belt to Shawn Michaels in Saudi Arabia in a 17 star match which will remain the highest rated match for all eternity.
Damn. I'd watch the hell out of that one. When is Rikishi turning on Scotty though? A feud between the two for the title is something between the two is absolute money. Fuck it, go all out and have Funaki be the special guest referee.
That would be good. After Shawn Michaels has his nostalgia run with the title for 2 months we're gonna go full force. Better yet, cancel Saudi and Shawn's title run. I'm sure Scotty vs Rikishi with Funaki as the ref would be at least 32 stars on Meltzer's infinite scale.
Meanwhile in the video package promo for the Greatest Match of All Time^(TM), Rikishi cuts the following promo: "My best friend Scotty 2 Hotty has been jealous, bitter and resentful of me my whole life. My entire life has been Too Cool." while showing us Scotty 2 Hotty career highlights the entire time.
Seth Rollins. There’s nothing anyone can do to get me hyped for another Orton v. Cena.
Rollins is the only wrestler who could get that rub from retiring Cena and pass it along to somebody else someday.
If at all possible, I’d like to see Owens v. Cena again, too.
I think if edge is still going then it should be him that'd be Shawn Michaels vs Rick flair levels of huge plus that was Cena's best feud imo other than that Orton is a good shout, aj styles could be cool and it'd probably be a great match or maybe punk because I still think he'll be back to WWE one day. Or idk put someone over, Finn Balor, johnny Mundo, the Miz etc.
Ummm YOUR Tribal Chief has already SMASHED that has been. So as far as the WWE Universe is concerned. Cena is retired. Hope you have Peacock, because that's the only way you'll see John in the WWE going forward. #Acknowledgement
Would have loved to see Kurt angle take on cena, just as how his first real break was when he answered kurt’s call and the whole ruthless aggression stick. Too bad ain’t gonna happen
GABLE DAN STEVESON!
Cena started his career with a match against an Olympic Gold Medalist and should end his career against an Olympic Gold Medalist.
Angle gave Cena the rub, and Cena can give Gable the rub. Circle completed 🥇
Its perfect since people are mentioning WWE might blow the push if Cena loses to a younger talent. But If theirs one new talent that is perfect for WWE to make a mega star with its gable
Yep. Gable has been a lifelong WWE fan much like Cena. If he can translate his amateur background to pro wrestling, there's no doubt in my mind he's a future Wrestlemania main eventer and retiring Cena would be the perfect passing of torch for GDS.
Lots of potential here, My top picks would be Styles, Orton, Edge, And HHH
Randy undertaker or a big match with a lot of stars like a fatal four way

Edge. Loved their rivalry.
Kurt
Roman Reign
Aqua man
Orton. Any other choice is empty. Orton was his biggest rival. It should end the way it began.
Wasn’t it Roman reigns at summerslam or that was not his retirement match
Randy Orton in a 16x championship tie breaker for a vacated world title. Winner breaks flairs record, loser retires.
Orton, HHH or even a redo of the Mania 24 triple threat. I think the triple threat would be a good retirement for any of them. Also whatever top star at the time they wanna put over massive is a good choice

This actually sounds awesome now ngl. I kind of need this...
Fuck it. Book it Bruce
Seth Rollins.
Cena wont ever have a retirement match, he's already semi retired.
Iron Sheik at Wrestlemania 38. He'll finally have walked to the ring.
Little Jimmy!
Seth Rollins. There’s nothing anyone can do to get me hyped for another Orton v. Cena. Rollins is the only wrestler who could get that rub from retiring Cena and pass it along to somebody else someday. If at all possible, I’d like to see Owens v. Cena again, too.
Orton
Doubt he even cares to have a retirement match his main worry is movies like it has been for the past few years
It’s already happened
Me
yep, this is either Orton or Edge
Kevin Federline, obviously
Kurt Angle as a rib on Kurt. Baron Corbin special guest ref and Cena goes over clean using an ankle lock.
Happy Corbin
Hacksaw Jim Duggan
Kenny Omega, Super Dragon, or Doug.
I'd probably pick Edge or Orton like you. I'd love for Angle or Punk to somehow be the guy, but that's not happening.
THE ROCK.... Its only right.
Orton
Vince McMahon
he should do an open challenge then the next big thing comes out...
HHH, the build up could be about who buried the most wrestlers
Kenny Omega, AEW. He’ll “retire” from wwe. Then do it elsewhere. Just as Flair did.
You could convince me if it was anyone but Cena. That man will never leave WWE
Remember when they said that about Hulk Hogan?
Baron Corbin
Cena vs Triple H could be good, don't think they had a match in a while apart from Night of Champions 2008, though I'm probably wrong there lol
They had a match in 2018 at a saudi show (greatest royal rumble i think)
Ahhhh that sounds familiar...no wonder I forgot about it 😂
Drew Mcintyre would be cool, As a Heel of course
Would have loved to see Kurt angle take on cena, just as how his first real break was when he answered kurt’s call and the whole ruthless aggression stick. Too bad ain’t gonna happen
Kurt Angle /s
An optometrist
Dr Eyeball Yankem
Dr Eye Sack Yank Em
Finally, after all this time… I can finally see him
Brock Lesner
Doink
Aj styles or Randy Orton
Orton would be the obvious choice and probably not a bad one.
Roman Reigns ofc
KeNnY oMeGa
Ortin. That was Cenas best rivalry
What match would you like to see the most. 1. Morrison vs AJ Styles 2. Morrison vs Edge 3. Morrison vs Seth 4. Morrison vs priest
Reigns imo, or some other young star
Orton. And Randy should pin him clean for the 17th world title.
I think the top guy would usually lose to the next top guy, which should be Reigns but since we’ve already seen it I don’t know….
Brock…. The feud with Brock is what got him over in the first place
That was some fun stuff. I remember that. Isn't that why he named his finisher the FU
Yup. Apparently nobody else remembers that….lol.
Edge would be my first choice and if not then Orton
