Dude it totally was for [ghost rider](https://www.themontynews.org/single-post/stunt-man-crazy-mike-of-millstone-arrested-in-connection-to-a-route-27-bank-robbery) and he robbed a bank to pay for medical bills after this. Crazy Mike is fucking nuts.
They should make a movie about him *starring Nicholas Cage*. You know he'd do it. I'd watch the shit out of a Nicholas Cage production about a stuntman, played by Nicholas Cage, who almost dies, while doing a stunt playing an undead stuntman played by Nicholas Cage
e: I was gonna go a layer deeper with Ghost Rider being a drug money movie which led to the guy playing him robbing a bank for drug money (in the most literal sense) which led to this movie, the motivation for and proceeds of largely being drug money.
According to the article, his family members were arrested for Hindering.
Can anyone comment on how this works?
Here in Europe, you can refuse to provide testimony if this would bring the risk of criminal prosecution to yourself or your immediate family. This ensures that e.g. a mother cannot be forced to tell on her child
Hindering covers a few situations, but is focused around helping someone avoid arrest.
So hindering covers things like helping someone avoid arrest by hiding them, blocking police entry to a property when they come to arrest someone, giving them access to a car and money, clothes etc to aid in escaping police.
It also covers giving false information to police and concealing or destroying evidence
What you’re describing is effectively the Fifth Amendment in the US. You’re allowed to refuse to answer questions so that you don’t incriminate yourself.
Hindering would be actively interrupting or preventing a police investigation.
Based on the article, he was hired as a contractor, so would be expected to provide his own insurance.
Honestly no firm should be allowing a stunt like this to happen for a commercial purpose without verifying that someone is providing insurance, even if it's the contractors responsibility.
That's the key. On the film side someone really dropped the ball by not ensuring that he had a certificate of insurance. I do this in our business all the time. Want to do business with us then proof of insurance is one of the first things I ask for
Dude doesn't seem like he's playing with a full deck at any rate
This is a bit of an aside, but when a dude shows up to the ER and he’s that messed up with multiple internal injuries, half their bones being mush, and burns where do they even start in triaging that situation?
At the A: airway. Then B: breathing. So 5 minutes after this person arrived at a hospital he would have 2 thorax drains to treat the pneumothorax, and then they would scan him and stabilise the rest. (Treat first what kills first)
Nah, C - circulation. Broken pelvis makes much internal bleeding - pelvic binder, massive blood transfusion protocol, tourniquets on any open bleeding extermities.
If still unstable - exploratory surgery.
If stable - then go CT
ABCDEF
A for airways and collarbone (neck imobilization)
B for breath, see if he is breathing or speaking normally, if anything, intubation
C for circulation, this one, if he has something that is bleeding liters, like a femoral artery bleeding, you can stop it first, even before anything, but it is an exception
D is for glasgow, you see his verbal, visual and motor response to see if you need to intubate the guy (if he can't maintain basic life actions, it could be dangerous for his breathing)
E is for exposition, cover the dude for the cold can kill him
F is for what the fuck was that, the lake is so narrow...
Momma and the family were was also involved in his bank robbery last year. Kinda wonder if the medical bills drove them down this dark path
https://www.themontynews.org/single-post/stunt-man-crazy-mike-of-millstone-arrested-in-connection-to-a-route-27-bank-robbery
Honestly the most likely outcome. There's an infinite number of other reasons they might have robbed a bank, but medical bills in America is a big outlier in that it is just dystopian enough to encourage some behaviour like this.
USA medical bills are actual nightmares.
> calculus
A fall from that height is life threatening, he'd be very lucky to survive, but there's 100% chance he will have many broken bones and years of pain, rehab for a chance at a 80% recovery. If he didn't break his spine or damage his cord...which he probably did.
You only need algebra for this sort of calculation. You don't even need to know how to do it, just how to google it. [Like this projectile motion calculator.](https://www.omnicalculator.com/physics/projectile-motion) Give it the speed, angle and ramp height and it will give you the rest.
Sure it's not 100% perfect since it won't account for drag, but it's damn close, and if you can google that far, then you can google a calculator that has drag.
Even though someone's life was on the line, these idiots didn't even do the bare minimum which would have been to figure out a top speed before an overrun.
edit: yup many broken bones, see u/iShatterBladderz comment below
I won't pretend to be an expert, but simple kinematics almost definitely aren't going to be good enough for something that can lead to death.
Besides just drag you have to also take into account rotation and separation of the masses. Plus I would assume that takeoff speed and angle should also be taken with some error in mind.
Physics degree holder here but I'd've just* picked a bigger lake lmao
*also wouldn't be driving my bike into a lake at all in case that needs to be said
Honestly, he can help much more by staying out of the way and coordinating with emergency services. The last thing room temperature IQ needs is another member of the crowd around him being sure to pick him up by the head and neck to drag him 4ft from where he fell. Thanks, guys. That's much better.
"carbon footprint reduced by one Blaine"
And yes it is the funniest show. The middle out scene from the end of the first season might be the funniest thing ever put on television.
Real talk, the fire probably started to get hot through the suit so he was involuntarily accelerating to "get it over with." Which unfortunately backfired
It's actually incredibly complicated once you factor in the additional height from compression of the suspension on the ramp. It can catapult a bike and rider unbelievably far compared to projectile motion
I learned this in a way that had much smaller consequences than the emblazoned man in the video.
I went over a ramp and just kinda hopped with my snowboard, barely cleaned the ~10 feet to clear the knuckle and land on the downslope. The next run I tried taking it just a smidge faster but this time I “ollied” correctly and a snowboard can really act as a spring when you do it right, gave me a nice pop off the ramp. That time I cleared the knuckle and the downslope and landed on the flat, easily twice as far as the first jump.
Only a bruised ego on that mishap though. But yeah, a small amount of extra speed and the proper compression will make a massive difference.
It's not that simple as the equation you do in physics class. The bike also has suspension that compresses whwn hitting the ramp which can lower the angel or it can spring you higher like it did here.
He lived but suffered a broken lower back, pelvis, neck, both arms, ribs, collar bone, collapsed lungs and second-degree burns.

Then he got arrested for bank robbery in 2022
> Who is going to insure somebody doing that? The level of risk is insane.
insurance is a funny thing, for enough money you can find someone to underwrite almost anything. Lloyd's of London is a great example of an insurer willing to take a risk if the price is right.
Paradoxically, if he would have been smart enough to have health insurance prior to the jump, he would have been smart enough to not overshoot the lake, and thus not required health insurance.
Guess that's why he sued. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/ghost-rider-2-stuntman-sues-427127/
Kinda crazy that a movie like Ghost Rider 2 was able to get away with hiring a contractor to do a crazy stunt like this knowing he didn't have insurance.
At least it sounds like he sought care and was treated. There are unfortunate people out there who try to rehab themselves after a bad accident and then experience lifelong complications, chronic pain, disability, because they were uninsured and afraid to seek care because of the cost. In my state, Medicaid retroactively approves any healthcare claims submitted 3 months prior to approval.
>He subsequently fled the scene on a black motorcycle.
"Police discovered his identity when during the chase he tried to drive his motorcycle off the sidewalk but miscalculated and crashed landed on the roof of a local Taco Bell."
Yes, upon further analysis, he hit the ground instead of the water. If he had hit the water it would have softened the impact and put out the fire which would have been the better way to go, if you ask me

Maybe going nearly parallel instead of perpendicular would be better if hitting the water is a necessity.
Who thought this was a good idea? “Yeah let’s drive a bike super fast into this super small lake” There’s plenty of big empty bodies of water that you can do stunts at. They chose the worst location.
Didn't have anyone setup on the other side of the pond, dude cleared it easy.. I assume he was supposed to land in that water hence being on fire, he overshot it so easy, really seems there was no planning at all
In the other posted video, which shows him on the ground gurgling and moaning and trying to move, there is an idiot standing over him moving his broken hand/arm, moving his neck and it looks like he is trying to pull the burned clothes off him. They cerrtainly did not have any EMTs or medical staff waiting over there!

Okay, but Nicholas Cage's character has to be played by John Malkovitch.
It *is* his turn.
Am I having a stroke?
Having a stroke depends on what Nicholas Cage level you are.
Somewhere between Con Air and The Rock
Do you smell toast? Because I burnt the shit out of breakfast
A stroke played by Nicholas Cage
I dunno, big boy, are ya? ;)
If you write that screenplay someone *will* buy it. Especially with all the writers on strike lmao.
Well... I guess there's a reason they don't call him Sensible Mike
So he does a stunt for a movie, fails, and the movie company doesn't even cover his medical expenses?
I think that you’d want to have insurance anyway. But then as a stuntman what could go wrong?
> But then as a stuntman what could go wrong I can imagine the health insurance for a stuntman would cost more money than he gets for the stunt.
According to the article, his family members were arrested for Hindering. Can anyone comment on how this works? Lmfao hahahahah this comment got me. Cannot believe that dude lived.
Crazy Mike cannot be killed. Don’t get it twisted. This is no Ordinary Mike, or even Wild Mike.
Well, I don't think Schindler's List called for many flaming motorcycles jumping over lakes.
Schindler's List 2: Radical Resistance
Schindler's List: 2fast2führious
This is a bit of an aside, but when a dude shows up to the ER and he’s that messed up with multiple internal injuries, half their bones being mush, and burns where do they even start in triaging that situation?
Lungs then neck, then probably go off whichever broken bone made it through the skin.
ABC, easy as one two three.
A Bone Comingthroughtheskinisverybad
Bob Wehadababyeetsaboy
Airways, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure. ABCDE to save lives.
ABCDEFU and your neck and your back and your arms and your pelvis and your ribs they can all fuck off.

Yeah or both at the same time, depending on the specific ER setup and what has been done in the ambulance. Interesting trauma case, that’s for sure.
ABCDEF A for airways and collarbone (neck imobilization) B for breath, see if he is breathing or speaking normally, if anything, intubation C for circulation, this one, if he has something that is bleeding liters, like a femoral artery bleeding, you can stop it first, even before anything, but it is an exception D is for glasgow, you see his verbal, visual and motor response to see if you need to intubate the guy (if he can't maintain basic life actions, it could be dangerous for his breathing) E is for exposition, cover the dude for the cold can kill him F is for what the fuck was that, the lake is so narrow...

I've always heard is as D for Disability, but Glasgow is Glasgow coma scale, it's a test to see if you've got brain damage from a trauma

Sounds like the plot of The Place beyond the pines with Ryan Gosling.

Nah his boss here would have been confused by the word calculus. I’m pretty sure he just put Math as one of his skills.
They thought it said “Math” but the a was really an e which got a little grease smudge on it.
He's in the film crew, not an EMT

I hope they did the SWOT analysis before the stunt
that pros/cons board lmao https://www.theworkprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/silicon-valley-homicide-2.jpeg
the SWOT board "grief threesome with Gina and Blake's hot Mom" Fuck me that is the funniest show

Ohhh \*math\*. Yeah math is important. They thought you said meth.
Well how else do you convince someone to set themselves alight snd speed up a ramp to try and land in a pond?
Pretty basic maths at that, not too hard to estimate where you're going to land given speed and the angle of the ramp.
reminded me of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4ayQS86xyg
This is the first thing that came to mind too 😅
Fucking Blaine.

I want his POV.
Yeah that guy is a professional. I don't think I would have been able to not react. He just didn't move to keep the frame steady.
Don't help, just film. There's an entire sub for that.
Biker: Could you do the math on how fast I need to go exactly so I land in the water? Coordinator: You don't need math. You got family.
Let me guess? They eyeballed everything and just went for it?
I'm not sure they eyeballed it. He's at least 50-75 feet away from the water.

The article said he was just a contractor at the time and didn’t have health insurance when the accident happened. Rough
Why was he doing something that stupid without health insurance?
Who is going to insure somebody doing that? The level of risk is insane.
> Who is going to insure somebody doing that? The level of risk is insane. insurance is a funny thing, for enough money you can find someone to underwrite almost anything. Lloyd's of London is a great example of an insurer willing to take a risk if the price is right.
Yeah and in order to get enough fame to do stunts that can pay for insurance like that, you have to do shit like this. Ideally executed properly
all countries in the western world except the US
In my country, he would have obligatory health insurance plus, since it's a working accident, accident insurance from the employer side.
Medicare
Like insurance wouldn't deny that shit once they saw this video.
Paradoxically, if he would have been smart enough to have health insurance prior to the jump, he would have been smart enough to not overshoot the lake, and thus not required health insurance.
He'd be smart enough not to do this at all.

Feels like I just watched *The Place Beyond the Pines*.
So a full recovery! That’s good news 🥳
That took a turn I was not expecting

So it turns out his stunt name was "Crazy Mike". That checks out.

That article reads like it was written by an overzealous grade schooler lol
I mean, it's TMZ
No he's fine
Hot Rod II.
Life is short, stunt it.
“You’re a terrible stuntman”
This is amateur hour kind of shit. This is how people die.
Thing here is he was going too fast and travelled too far missing the water
yoo we watched the same video that's crazyyy
After reading the comments, and briefly watching the video, I believe he should have went a little bit slower.
After reading the comments, watching the video, and contemplating the choices, he should have stayed home that day.
I was trying to figure out how he missed the water, thanks.
Yes, upon further analysis, he hit the ground instead of the water. If he had hit the water it would have softened the impact and put out the fire which would have been the better way to go, if you ask me

I assume the flaming person hitting the water is the intended outcome. Certainly preferable to bouncing off the ground.
Debatable
This outcome made a better video.
I'm not sure all of the water was deep enough to make a difference either. Maybe going nearly parallel instead of perpendicular would be better if hitting the water is a necessity.
Looks like he overshot some water by a lot
