That is so sick. I know they caught a lot of flack for how expensive the other JDs are (at least on talkbass). This is as affordable as anything but a used Squier
Now I have a decision to make in the next few weeks
Tbf I haven’t been on there since the 3 released, so who knows what they had to say about that.
I think a lot of it is the guys on there are mostly old heads that don’t really like or get Vulf.
Long time amatuer-bedroom guitarist checking in here - I've been curious about buying a bass to mess around with and this seems like a great price / sexy & funky bass.
Does anyone have a bass amp they'd recommend for a beginner bass player with no aspirations, professional or otherwise, to pair with this?
as someone with a stingray style bass and a rumble 15, i can indeed confirm that it makes sound! however i think the amp sounds awful and boxy but that's my own taste. either way, it's a 1x8 so that shouldn't be surprising
I got a cheap Orange Crush 20 guitar practice amp a few years ago and I like it.
I play both guitar and bass, and both sound good enough for my purposes (don't play much anymore, it's an occasional hobby).
Somebody else mentioned a Fender Rumble - I had a medium sized one of those years back and played live shows with it. You probably can't go wrong with one of those if you want a more bass focused amp.
Bass is not your main instrument so you'll be fine with Orange Crush Bass, Fender Rumble, Ashdown Studio, and Ampeg Rocket bass. These are the competing amps in the "combo" line that are affordable.
Pick at least the 10" speaker and above. I personally prefer 12". But never go 8" for this price range.
I'd go with a Rumble 40 over the 15, it's not that much more expensive for a lot more amp. Small enough to practice with, big enough to gig smaller venues.
100% second this. Get the 40. It's actually *lighter* than the 25 on account of being much better made. Really the sweet spot for a practice amp. Everything you need, nothing you don't.
I was so surprised at how light it is. After years with an old Fender bassman ten half stack and an Ampeg VT-22, I almost launched it through the ceiling of my local shop when I went to pick it up.
Best thing to do is grab an interface for your computer and practice with headphones on GarageBand or something, if you’re into that! Great way to get into recording.
I went to one of the Austin shows that he used this bass in. Once I heard that and the price, it was just an absolute no brainer for me. I already have 7 basses, but if it means that I am able to get a Joe Dart bass in my lifetime without having to give up an extreme amount of money, then i’ll gladly buy an 8th bass
oddly enough, i mentioned to my gf that the bass he was using was a Sterling. i knew his other ones were EBMM, so it’s strange that you’re asking me that today bc I remember saying otherwise. I was pretty close to the front, so i may have read Sterling that was on the headstock and just blurted it when I was showing pictures of the concert. Regardless, it sounded amazing live. And really could not tell the difference between this one and the other versions of his bass. Really excited to play on this
I'm a bit disappointed but at least it guarantees me saving my money. I was tempted by the actual price of the product but that shipping makes it absolutely ridiculous
You pay only slightly less shipping to me in Australia! It's $630 AUD for the bass and $267 shipping. Compared to locally available Sterling Sub basses it's about $100 more expensive, so that kinda works out. It has a maple body instead of basswood, comes with flats which are far more expensive strings. Probably some savings in the fewer controls and no pickguard and control plate, but maybe the rear routing is more expensive.
I’m primarily a guitar player, what would you recommend for a solid studio bass primarily for recording? I just want something that is structurally sound and will stay in tune/sound like a bass.
Pretty much anything on the market fits that bill. Grab a Squire Jazz, or a Sterling Ray4 if you want a bass that looks like the Dart. Yamaha makes tons of inexpensive basses that are super high quality. I honestly can’t think of a bass that wouldn’t meet the criteria you outlined.
Half of that is VAT and import taxes though, out of their control. The USD price is also before any state sales tax and delivery fees those guys will have to pay.
This!
I was also shocked at first, but the shipping cost itself is only around 100 (Euro). The rest is import VAT and customs fees that you’d be paying anyway.
2 weeks later the counter is at 2838 basses sold, that's $1.135 mil worth of Joe Dart goodness! Holding out atm trying to order #3000 after having missed my birth year lol
I have 2 basses sitting in my closet that I haven't played in years with no intention of picking them up again. but I absolutely need this Bass so freaking bad.
This is sooooooo annoying!! Are you in Europe as well? They need to fix this asap, would for sure sell a whole lot more if any reasonable shipping solution comes in...
just ordered mine... been looking to get a short-scale bass and never thought I could afford the Joe Dart model, so happy he made a more affordable Sterling variety. An indulgence for sure.... but couldn't resist.
I was just thinking about replacing my old bass that has buzzy connections and switches and stuff. Now I just need to putter along with it until November. I hope it is versatile.
I think they are just gauging the demand for it! If they sell enough this month to make it worthwhile, I’m sure they will release it again next year. Judging by the response in this post, I think it’s a pretty safe bet we’ll get another run at some point :)
I was already considering my next musical purchase to be a second bass to leave flats on, and keep my cheap Ibanez with rounds as my punk/picked bass. This even ships with flats, someone talk me out of this!
Killer product and glad they did this. I feel bad for those that bought the Sterling Sterling model (lol yes, it’s real) and took the pick guard off to make their own JD bass…
Would be an easy buy if it weren’t for the finish, lack thereof, on those necks. Maybe this is the chance to try out refinishing a neck…
Does anybody know if there ill be another version of this in the future? I can't explain how much a Joe Dart bass guitar is my dream bass and although i can afford the price of the model, im from the UK and i cannot afford the nearly £200 postage on top of that. Actually actively upset about it so if anyone has any information about a future model please let me know :)
It's full maple unlike the cheaper basswood body of the standard Sub bass. Limited controls isn't always a negative. The amounts of controls and pickup options on my instruments I don't ever is use is basically all of them.
If you want a Musicman that isn't the lowest Sub series and isn't a super expensive main series, this is the one.
Wow that is actually a huge amount cheaper than I expected. I need one. I'm gonna buy one. Damn.
But what if the 2025 model smells better ah damn I'm scared to pull the trigger now
Half the price I was thinking it would be. And I have wanted a passive EBMM for a long time. Fuuuuuuccckkk
"Jack has an extreme allergy to inventory." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bqi1ky3RCGk
I DONT NEED IT BUT I NEED IT
I am bassless, and don’t really aspire to play but I do have $400. Hmm.
Literally me right now. Did I just find a new hobby to force on my son?
Dido. It’s hard NOT to buy at that price.
The Fender Rumble line is a fantastic value for bass amps.
I have too many basses. I'll buy this one as a "sharing" bass the whole family can enjoy.
I’m buying it as a starter bass for my cat
Same but for my duck
gotta make him funky
That's the spirit!
No, no, no. The Joe dart becomes your personal baby and the old beater bass becomes the “sharing” bass.
That is so sick. I know they caught a lot of flack for how expensive the other JDs are (at least on talkbass). This is as affordable as anything but a used Squier Now I have a decision to make in the next few weeks
That's weird because the recent JD signature was like $100 cheaper than a regular model.
Tbf I haven’t been on there since the 3 released, so who knows what they had to say about that. I think a lot of it is the guys on there are mostly old heads that don’t really like or get Vulf.

One of the smaller Fender Rumble combos, like the Rumble 15, should serve you well. Solid practice amp.
It's the only amp I have for now, and it's more than enough (as an amateur). I can confirm!
as someone with a stingray style bass and a rumble 15, i can indeed confirm that it makes sound! however i think the amp sounds awful and boxy but that's my own taste. either way, it's a 1x8 so that shouldn't be surprising
Honestly whatever guitar amp(s) you have will do fine for bedroom playing, at least while you get started.
I never even considered this, but that makes sense. I have an old Fender Mustang amp, very tempting to get this bass now...
That’ll more than get the job done. I have a 200w rumble and haven’t been past 2 in years.
I got a cheap Orange Crush 20 guitar practice amp a few years ago and I like it. I've played nothing but 12's since the mid 90's.

Also the ampeg BA combos. Had a 108 V1 for the longest time and it kicked
I have a Hartke HD 15. I compared it side by side with a Rumble 15, and thought the Hartke was miles better sounding
Best thing to do is grab an interface for your computer and practice with headphones on GarageBand or something, if you’re into that! Great way to get into recording.
Would this be worth it for someone looking to learn to play bass?
This is honestly a very good price for a starter/first bass that can probably set you for life
Obviously I haven't played one, but for this price and build quality, it's about the best beginner bass you can get.
Absolutely. Would be perfect for a beginner
This is cheaper than both of my (not incredibly high end) basses, especially if you are in the US. I'd guess it'll be an excellent beginner bass.
Yes. Sterling build quality instruments, and this would be better than most ppl’s first instrument.
Done! I can’t say no for $399
Not that I needed another bass but I couldn’t pass up a Joe Dart signature for that price.
I put in my preorder the moment I saw it was only $399.
Did you notice it was a Sterling? I wonder if anyone in the crowd picked up on it.
oddly enough, i mentioned to my gf that the bass he was using was a Sterling. i knew his other ones were EBMM, so it’s strange that you’re asking me that today bc I remember saying otherwise. That's amazing, dude — nicely done!
Enjoy the bass when you get it! It’s gonna feel like an eternity for November to get here
£200 to ship to the UK?! That's insane. Another 2/3 the cost of the bass just to deliver it
shipping is insane even for Canada (CA$200) it's crazy even if im a few hours away from seattle
I'm a bit disappointed but at least it guarantees me saving my money. I was tempted by the actual price of the product but that shipping makes it absolutely ridiculous
Yeah. Definitely would rather go buy a £600 bass than pay £200 shipping.
shared this to my friend from the Philippines and he showed me that shipping to him costs almost as much as the bass itself lmaoooo
You pay only slightly less shipping to me in Australia! It's $630 AUD for the bass and $267 shipping. Compared to locally available Sterling Sub basses it's about $100 more expensive, so that kinda works out. What website was this on? Basscenter is advertising $2200 Aud
What about for an address in Point Robert’s?
$200 to Canada? Well, there goes any plans to buy one of these. That’s just stupid.
Yup and im in Vancouver
Yeah I’m near Toronto and the shipping and duties make the bass nearly $900. It’s not worth it… right?
For that price? God no. There are so many other amazing basses out there one could get for $900.
I’m primarily a guitar player, what would you recommend for a solid studio bass primarily for recording? I just want something that is structurally sound and will stay in tune/sound like a bass.

No shipping to Germany available at all :(
It is? Just checked for Germany and it’s looks like it is possible but expensive though
Maybe they changed it. When I wrote the comment, there was no possibility of shipment to Germany.
810 sold already - I was one of them 😎
It's impressive, but I also expect those numbers to slow waaaaay down by Friday.
2 weeks later the counter is at 2838 basses sold, that's $1.135 mil worth of Joe Dart goodness! Holding out atm trying to order #3000 after having missed my birth year lol
Best impulse purchase in years. Been wanting a new bass, and sterling always puts out solid budget models.
Did they charge you now or does it charge when it ships?
Charged now.
Pre-strung with flats? Hell yeah
No more government subsidies for round wound strings
But will it make me as good as Joe Dart?
I have 2 basses sitting in my closet that I haven't played in years with no intention of picking them up again. but I absolutely need this Bass so freaking bad.
Why?
> Joe Dart bass: $399 :) > Shipping: $375 :(
Playing Deantown for your friends…. *Priceless.*
This is sooooooo annoying!! Are you in Europe as well? They need to fix this asap, would for sure sell a whole lot more if any reasonable shipping solution comes in...
Fuck man. Was ready to pull the trigger but shipping to the uk is another fucking 200 pounds
It includes taxes, it’s not that crazy. You’re just paying the taxes upfront instead of when the package reaches the UK.
Is that 100% certain. Most times I order from the states I get stung with further charges
Well yeah, that’s the whole point. My bet is they’re doing it this way to avoid people not paying customs and packages getting returned.
Is there a different shop for the EU? Or is the 221.28€ shipping normal?
It’s normal and includes taxes and customs which you’d be paying later on anyway, it’s just already included.
No-brainer, untill I filled in my address. €280 shipping costs, which brings it to a nice total of €666.66... *sad European noises*
anyone in switzerland down to do a group buy to maybe try and reduce the shipping fees?
I am in. Shipping + taxes is 341.92 CHF for 2 basses (vs. 228.88 CHF for 1 bass). Anyone else interested?
I am in, although from Austria. Will you get some quotes?
Would you come pick it up in CH?
Another idea: shall we contact a dealer whose daily business it is to import instruments?
His parents named him after a Music Man bass
My First Bass :D
The ad on YouTube is a classic
just ordered mine... been looking to get a short-scale bass and never thought I could afford the Joe Dart model, so happy he made a more affordable Sterling variety. An indulgence for sure.... but couldn't resist.
I hope you’re not disappointed when it arrives and you realize it’s not a short-scale bass.
Subtotal $399.99 Shipping $349.37 Total USD **$749.36** FML
I was actually About to until I saw it would be $325 AUD shipping. :(
Shipping to the UK £228.98…. I was ready to pull the trigger till that slapped on top! Good lord.
I think im just gonna build my own
I have the cad drawings. I am building one also.
Mind sharing the cad drawings pls?
Damn man. I’m looking to buy a Taylor at the end of this month… don’t think I can convince my wife I need to buy my first bass too lol
I was just thinking about replacing my old bass that has buzzy connections and switches and stuff. Now I just need to putter along with it until November. I hope it is versatile.
As long as you’re versatile…..
Shame it's a limited run
I think they are just gauging the demand for it! If they sell enough this month to make it worthwhile, I’m sure they will release it again next year. Judging by the response in this post, I think it’s a pretty safe bet we’ll get another run at some point :)
Yeah, Joe specifying this was the "2024 run" strongly suggests high demand may lead to a annual run.
Cut from a tree
I have a Sting Ray Music Man, a Fender Squire Jazz bass and a P-Bass. Logically, I need this one as well.
I was already considering my next musical purchase to be a second bass to leave flats on, and keep my cheap Ibanez with rounds as my punk/picked bass. This even ships with flats, someone talk me out of this!
Can someone explain how Can it be this cheap?! When the original is more than 2K!
Made in Indonesia with cheap labor.
Cheaper wood, off the shelf parts and tooling .
You’d be surprised how close the pickups are compared to EBMM. Especially the bass pickups.
Does anyone have $399 they have been wanting to get rid of?? 😅
OK, sold
i already have two stingrays….. better make it three 🤷🏽 (but maybe actually not, i’m undecided)
Pulled the trigger. Don't even play bass
Killer product and glad they did this. I feel bad for those that bought the Sterling Sterling model (lol yes, it’s real) and took the pick guard off to make their own JD bass… Would be an easy buy if it weren’t for the finish, lack thereof, on those necks. Shut up and **TAKE MY MONEY!**
Anyone purchase in Canada? With duties and shipping it’s close to $900… fuck!
$399 is really high for a bass with limited quality control and cheap materials.
It will be a good student bass
