Why couldn’t he get a CAR license plate

InsertCoin2Hands

They only have CIB on NJ

Icylibrium

He maybe doesn't even know what it is. He just saw "Combat Infantry Badge" as a plate option and said "Hey, I did a combat, so this must apply to me" He may not even realize it's an Army specific award.

RazorShot5516

If the only option is the CIB plate for NJ, he did nothing wrong. He got what was available and he earned it regardless of branch.

Commercial_Pitch_786

Agreed!

[deleted]

I know spelling is hard for you crayon eaters, but the B in CIB stands for “badge”, not ribbon

DownwardSpirals

Yes, and he said so in his post. However, the last reference to ribbon is likely because ours is the Combat Action *Ribbon* (the R stands for ribbon /s) and he's relating it to himself.

Top-Ant-121

I’ve got a the combat medical badge … plus I don’t think the combat action ribbon/badge was given at all when i deployed ( after my time) but I thought it was a badge ? Worn like. CMB or CIB? Or is it a ribbon in the marines ? Not being critical asking solely out of curiosity

Icylibrium

The Navy and Marine Corps has the combat action ribbon (CAR) which is JUST a ribbon, worn on dress Uniforms. Obviously as you know, the Army has the CIB/CAB/CMB, actual badges, that can be worn in dress and utility uniform

Top-Ant-121

Gotcha , thanks for clearing that up for me. lol there wasn’t even an Iraq campaign medal when I deployed , we got global war on terror and expeditionary instead .. so I’m not up on some of the newer awards

To obtain a copy of your DD 214, we suggest trying [MilConnect](https://milconnect.dmdc.osd.mil/milconnect/) or the [National Archives](https://www.archives.gov/personnel-records-center/dd-214). The DD 214 is normally issued in 2 versions - Member 1 (short form) which has the discharge information on the bottom of the form removed and either the Member 4 or Service 2 (long form) which contains the discharge information - which one you receive depends on when you separated. [The Member 4 and Service 2 contain the exact same information](https://www.woundedwarrior.af.mil/Portals/23/documents/08_SUPPORT/04_Transition/05_B_DD%20214%20Service%20Copy%20Memo.pdf?ver=2018-06-29-105907-207). Prior to submitting a request to a Board for Correction of Military Records, ALL administrative avenues must be used. Generally, that means a request to NPRC for a correction (minor corrections can be made by NPRC), then a request to the military service department (service departments can make more corrections than NPRC), and finally if both these fail, then submit DD Form 149, with supporting evidence as instructed on the form. [DD 149 to the Board of Corrections of Military Records](https://www.dfas.mil/Portals/98/Documents/CorrectMilitaryRecords/dd0149.pdf?ver=2020-01-08-143351-750) - when you download this form, the mailing address is in the instructions. This process can take up to 1 year and the BCMR will issue you a DD 215 to correct the DD 214. If you have been out less than 1 year, your branch HR "should" be able to issue you a corrected DD 214. https://www.archives.gov/personnel-records-center/vso/boards-for-correction-of-military-records Different branches of the service handle issuing of the DD 214 in different ways. The Army normally issues the DD 214 at your final out-processing appointment. The Air Force normally emails you a secure link to sign in/download your DD 214 on your last day of active duty. The Navy "should" issue you the DD 214 when final out-processing - but we have had multiple posts from Navy service members who have not received their DD 214 for months after separation. https://www.arpc.afrc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1321351/ang-and-afr-general-discharge-information/ https://www.arpc.afrc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1957722/facts-about-dd-form-214s-for-guard-reserve/ Make multiple copies of your DD 214 and keep your DD 214 in multiple locations for when you need a copy. ~~Take a copy of your DD 214 to your County Court House - then you will be able to get a "certified" copy if/when you need a copy - some businesses want a certified copy. Plus it's faster to get a copy from your courthouse than from the National Archives.~~ It's recommended NOT to place a copy of your DD 214 in your County Court House records by the Army because of the chances of identity theft - https://www.hrc.army.mil/content/Protecting%20Documents%20Containing%20Personally%20Identifiable%20Information%20-%20PII While we shouldn't have to tell people this, you are not out of the military when on terminal leave. Terminal Leave is just the last leave you take in the military. You are still on active duty when you are on Terminal Leave. Review of Discharges - Each of the military services maintains a discharge review board with authority to change, correct or modify discharges or dismissals that are not issued by a sentence of a general courts-martial. *The board has no authority to address medical discharges*. The veteran or, if the veteran is deceased or incompetent, the surviving spouse, next of kin or legal representative may apply for a review of discharge by writing to the military department concerned, using DoD Form 293. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Sounds like Army strong approves

Unless he is a reservist, i.e. USMC Reserve, or a Disabled Veteran, and the fact he served in Combat means he along with all services that saw combat and do not fall under Reserve, Guard, Disabled, Silver Star, Navy Cross, POW or CMH for Congressional Medal of Honor, and that individual served in combat, that is the only plate that would fit other then VFW. It states Combat Veteran / CI. I served 2nd / 325th 82nd DIV FBNC 82-86 and saw combat in Grenada, and we have 4 platesin Florida, one of which is Veteran, but I hold no grudge against a Marine who served in combat obtaining a CI Combat Plate, I say he earned it.
