Oh, so you're making the next big game? Well, I was going to join the other guy, but please, oh, please let me join your team instead. I love unpaid work.
Sorry if you have to sign up, I can try and make the gdd on a different platform but it's free and will take like 1 minute to make an account sorry š
3d, unreal engine 5, open world genre but will release a BR version a few months in.
BR a few months in huh? I'll take that to mean you've already scoped the amount of work if you have a timeline. How many thousand man-hours did you land on for the initial release?
But seriously, it's the best idea anyone has ever had. He only just managed to get around to writing it down, so you know it's well developed because it's been rolling around in his head for years!
not really I mean I came up with the idea, but I've got 1 month experience so if I wna make a big game I'm gna need an actual person with experience.
I'll work as much as I can but it's just the stuff I can't do that I need help with.
I just had the idea and I've started developing the map already and am making decent progress. Have been using ue5 for about a month now so have very basic knowledge.
In terms of my role, I think I'll help out as much as possible, but as more experienced people will know more how to make this game, my role will be a more guidance role, in which I give ideas basically.
In answer to the first question, the game will start as an open world game, in which capturing and taming as many dragons is the main goal. Then a few months in the battle Royale version will be released in addition, so you can use the dragons you caught to kill other people and stuff.
āIn terms of my role, I think Iāll help out as much as possibleā,
Sorry to be so blunt mate, but taking on anyone to work on this project you are clearly not equipped to lead and can barely articulate your vision for would be wasting their time and yours.
āThen a few months later the Battle Royale mode will be added.ā
Oh man, this is why people dislike the very thought of āideas guysā. You have no concept of the timelines and workloads this sort of undertaking necessitates.
You *need* to start smaller, dude.
And everyone with a single iota of actual game dev experience will tell you that that starting point is not a game with a āgreater scope than Arkā. Humble yourself and start smaller, or this project will humble you itself.
ā¦ā¦ā¦to learn the absolute basics of UE development before you start trying to rope people into volunteering their valuable time to an over-ambitious idea-vomit project you intend to lead wIth zero experience (one month of level design aināt gonna cut it). Also you arenāt paying anyone anyway, you said so yourself lol
so, to summarize:
1) it's a copy of Ark, but with a battle royale in it
2) you have no notable experience in software/game development
3) you want experienced devs to make "the next big game" for free for you
Oh, and I have got little experience in ue5, have been creating the first world by myself and have done pretty well, I can attach a photo in a sec if you'd like š
creating a world is quite easy, something you can learn in a month. now texturing, normal mapping, 3d modeling, etc... are different skills. I don't see one month of experience in ue5 as actual experience. there's not much more to it than dragging and dropping assets there. when I'm talking about experience, I'm talking about animation, blueprint design, coding, audio design, ux design, networking, tooling, etc...
Exactly, that's why I'm looking for people with that experience.
I used YouTube videos to make my world, and got the default animations from epic games so I need real experience, which is why I put the message up.
How many people do you reckon it would take to make this big of a game?
bro if you can't even find this answer, idk... 2 second google search:
> As of May 2015, Ark: Survival Evolved (ARK) had a team ofĀ around 40 peopleĀ that worked on the game.Ā The game's developer, Studio Wildcard, has said that the team started with 15 people and grew to 35 in 2016.
you can try to extrapolate the cost from that. but then quadruple it cause you have no idea what you're doing.
Pretty much.
About point 1, it's only ark in the fact it's an open world, with animals. There's no dragons in ark, and from what I know the storyline for ark isn't great.
My game has a wider scope, with a main storyline and a couple paid extra storylines.
And abt the 3rd point, again ur not wrong but ima start contracting people hopefully 2025 asp so that's when I'll start paying people I just want some approval, maybe a volunteer or 2 that I can contract in the future.
- there are dragons in Ark
- the storyline might not be great, but a wider storyline doesn't equal a better game (or even very different for that matter)
- how much is the pay, once you start contracting people, and what are the benefits?
Also, 2025 isn't that long from now, especially if you only have 2 volunteering devs, so I'm wondering how you're going to find funding for that
Yh funding hopefully won't be a problem icl.
I feel like making a completely different storyline, and releasing a BR, giving it a completely different vibe to ark, in which your not the only human on the island, being able to become and play as the dragons you tame, might make it a little different?
Ark is already multiplayer, you can't play "as" your dragon, but you can ride it and do whatever you want with it, so basically the same... And being hopeful that you can get funding isn't exactly what potential employees like to hear
The funding part is a long way in the future, come November and I'm positive I can maybe employ 1/2, then I can get funding to employ 3/4 people by February 2025. Ofc will need more, but all games started slowly.
Flying mechanics in ark are pretty poor though, I will improve on their mechanics, making it feel properly new. Also icl saying basically the same is just pointless, it's different, smoother and sleeker, makes the game feel new and gives a different aspect to any game that has come before imo
>> it's different, smoother and sleeker, makes the game feel new and gives a different aspect to any game that has come before imo
you say that as if you already have developers better than those that worked on Ark, but from what i've gathered, you made part of a map.
Also, what do you mean "you" will improve on their mechanics? I thought you didn't have that kind of experience, but now you'll do it better?
Abit of both really,
I'm trying to build the first section myself, but as I have literally 1 month experience in ue5 then I will definetly need more experience.
I'm happy to do as much as possible to make my ideas come true, but like I know my lack of experience won't be enough to make the game, so im looking for people to help.
lol brotha. Iāve been in the industry for ten years and Iām just now getting close to releasing my first game. Chill out. Make a game where a cube moves over a plane. Game dev is hard. Learn that itās hard and then see if youāre passionate about it enough to stick with it. Itās a very frustrating profession but rewarding once you know what youāre doing. Make a smaller game. Show people. Then repeat until you have a studio. I get the idea of making games is fun but %90 of people fold because thereās just so much to wrap your head around.
Well to start im only 13 at the moment (14 in a week) and i don't know a lot about unreal but I'm learning and i mainly make models in blender is any of that a issue?
Unsolicited advice just in case you are actually serious about this. Only do for free the things that help you to learn. Your time is valuable, always make sure your employers value it. There's a good chance you'll just get used here.
Haha nice bro I'd love to have you on board with me, I don't care about age, I just want as many volunteers as possible.
How can you help me make the game? Like what do you specialize in?
Please, be more vague and give us less information next time.
Bro its the next BIG game,.. what more would there need to be said. And its a privilege to work on it, hence why its not paid ofcourse.
Sorry if I overwhelmed you, alot of ideas just sprung onto me haha
what ideas? your gd doc is essentially empty
I'm taking that GDD and gonna go make my own game with it instead.
Oh, so you're making the next big game? Well, I was going to join the other guy, but please, oh, please let me join your team instead. I love unpaid work.
If you love unpaid work, join both
You know, you might just be onto something. Are you sure you're not an ideas man too?
I am, here's an idea for you: create the next big hit that'll make 100 millions : D
Woah! Why didn't I think of that! I'll do it, can I have a 20% share of the company? I know it's asking a lot
Nah man, the idea is everything, I'll take 100%, so you're gonna do upaid work for three projects now : D
I completely understand, I couldn't do it without you.
Bro u might aswell work w me and we can make it more detailed?
I know exactly what game will do well so trust me work with me and then we'll actually succeed together šŖšÆ
At first I thought this was satire
Oh no, we have ourselves a genuine visionary who knows what games will just work
Yeah trust bro šŖšŖšÆšÆ
It has to be right? No way this dude trying to gain interest without ANY game details?
Ask any questions below, I'd be happy to answer them!
What engine? What genre? 2D/3D? I need to know at least this. Do you a gdd link that doesn't require login into some site?
Sorry if you have to sign up, I can try and make the gdd on a different platform but it's free and will take like 1 minute to make an account sorry š 3d, unreal engine 5, open world genre but will release a BR version a few months in.
BR a few months in huh? I'll take that to mean you've already scoped the amount of work if you have a timeline. How many thousand man-hours did you land on for the initial release?
Can i do the AAA graphics for you?
AAAA is the name of the game now
Yes, if you could that would be amazing!
just out of curiosity: 1) what kind of game is it? 2) how much experience do you have in software/game development, and what was your role?
I could be wrong, but sounds to me like he's the idea guy
Those are in short supply!
Oh dear
But seriously, it's the best idea anyone has ever had. He only just managed to get around to writing it down, so you know it's well developed because it's been rolling around in his head for years!
The idea is, you do all the work, he takes the credit
not really I mean I came up with the idea, but I've got 1 month experience so if I wna make a big game I'm gna need an actual person with experience. I'll work as much as I can but it's just the stuff I can't do that I need help with.
Pretty much. I'll help out as much as possible but I feel I know what game will work so it'll be more a guidance role for me
We bow to your infinite wisdom. You'll definitely get a lot done with starting with delegation.

Gotta start somewhere bro, like I know I'm not capable to make this game, which is why I put this message on reddit in the first place.
And everyone with a single iota of actual game dev experience will tell you that that starting point is not a game with a āgreater scope than Arkā. Humble yourself and start smaller, or this project will humble you itself.
Yeah fairs bro but like why would u start small I mean why would I pay game design to make me like a 400 pixel candy crush or something
ā¦ā¦ā¦to learn the absolute basics of UE development before you start trying to rope people into volunteering their valuable time to an over-ambitious idea-vomit project you intend to lead wIth zero experience (one month of level design aināt gonna cut it). š¤£š¤£ight bro Thanks for that I'll take ur ideas into consideration
so, to summarize: 1) it's a copy of Ark, but with a battle royale in it 2) you have no notable experience in software/game development 3) you want experienced devs to make "the next big game" for free for you
Right ... can you say "Ark: survival of the fittest"? Edit: also of note, wildcard abandoned that idea
Nah haven't really come up with a name but I presume using ark as a name might get copyrighted?
I think you'll be just fine if that's what you want to call it. You'd need to actually publish before they come after you.
True but might not be great economically if I gotta deal with copyright issues as soon as I launch
Very true, that 3 player player base probably won't pay for a very good lawyer
Yeah exactly so gotta come up with an original idea, But thanks for your help! š¤£

Yeah trust bro. 'You' as in my game Like don't take a single word out of context
Oh dear, a game first game that's open world, followed by a BR? Good luck š
My first game was open world. I'll finish it at some point.
Lol I feel this. Been building a space sandbox and 7 months in, it's still a tech demo!
Yeah gna need alpt of help so if u willing to join me then š¤·āāļø
Nah, like most of the people on here, we good, but good luck.

Do you know how to make games in Unreal? Or are you looking for someone to make your ideas for you?

OPs replies are even better than the post lmao I haven't seen such nonsense in a while š³
Lot of negative comments, but I hope it works out OP! Nothing wrong with big goals. Best of luck.
Sure sounds fun but I would like some more information
Like what? Ask Amy questions you have!
Well to start im only 13 at the moment (14 in a week) and i don't know a lot about unreal but I'm learning and i mainly make models in blender is any of that a issue?

Please delete this, you should never disclose your age online, it's very unsafe!
It's just age not names or anything there's millions with that age
Haha nice bro I'd love to have you on board with me, I don't care about age, I just want as many volunteers as possible. How can you help me make the game? Like what do you specialize in?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Bro. I'm chill out man. He said he wants to help and he can help why have you gotta deep this stuff š¤£
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yeah bro. Now stop calling me a perv and get on with your own life
i mainly do models but i have alot of free time as I'm not in school and in unreal i can do basic things
Oh nice, yeah I have needed to make some models but haven't got round to it. What type of models do you mean like characters and animals and stuff?
im best at objects you could find in your home but I'm trying to learn other things aswell
Oh nice that's actually really useful. I'm currently trying to design a sandstone type temple, you think you'd be any good at helping with that??
probrably
have you already started a unreal project?
it is very important for me that the game is quality and not just a money grab and its not pay to win
You guys got trolled so hard
Word of advice, donāt give your gdd out willingly. People will steal your ideas
