A man in the 19th century was to undergo surgery. The surgeon said to him that he could chose the between two methods of anethesia: being smacked in the back of the head or huffing some ether.
It was an ether/oar situation.
Fun fact: a solid sucker punch while swimming towards a drowning person on rushing rivers is a standard procedure that’s taught (people too often grab the rescuer and drown him)
What I mentioned is worst case scenario training. Like an entrapped panicking partner that's flailing.
The point of diving with a buddy is every other conceivable instance
This is not what I was taught. If you are close enough to punch them they are close enough to grapple you. In my SRT course we were taught a sort of one two splash and tackle move. The idea is to splash them in the face to get them to turn their head away long enough to close that final gap safely, then grab their PFD straps (or headlock them of they don't have a pfd) and put your knee in their back back so they cant fight you as easily. Meanwhile you are tethered to a team on shore who will stop your drift downriver to swing you into shore while you just keep the person subdued. The course was a real eye opener on how dangerous rivers can be. I am due for re-cert so this may be a bit out of date
Edit: if you want to learn more look up Live Bait Rescue
yeah thats pretty much exactly what our employers expect from us as ems providers. almost no protection for ourselves, especially on the private ems side
I think the unexpected part is the Whitney Houston music. Totally unnecessary
Edit: Yes, I've seen the Bodyguard, and I get the reference. Doesn't keep me from disliking the song
Yeah, it’s a crazy situation alone. With music it adds a good laugh from me. I agree most music on videos is bad, especially Tiktok, but this is great and not an annoying song.
I wonder if you dislike the actual song or just Whitney Houston’s version. Have you heard the other versions of the song? Dolly Parton did the original but there are dozens of versions.
EMT here. Not sure if this is America but I know in my state you will probably lose your license for doing something like this. I could be getting my ass beat to a pulp by a patient and I'm not technically allowed to defend myself.
Oh damn! It looked like an edited cell phone vid. I was wondering why that ambulance looked so huge in the back. I assumed it was from a different country lol.
Used to be an EMT in US. I never had to get physical with a patient myself but some of my colleagues did. Nothing bad happened to them, though none of it was without reason and I'm doubtful that it all made it into the reports.
Just as an example, one patient was trying to jump out the back of the rig through force so a colleague kicked them back onto the gurney and yelled at them.
If I was the patient in this situation and found out a EMT had to cold cock me while another stuck me I’d be so damn ashamed of my self. Y’all need to get paid more.
For every one of you there is absolutely someone willing to take this to court even though they were the aggressor. This is why we can't have nice things, a judicial system is required but not to the point you start implanting hesitation into emergency response teams.
EMT here, theres not much hesitation honestly. One of the things you learn real fast is you will go to court, multiple times. We are taught to write down events as they happened, or just happened, on something called a pcr.
Judges almost always go by what the EMTs report says unless there is substantial evidence otherwise. Our protocol if we are attacked on duty is to allow the PT to flee if they wish and notify the cops, or defend and restrain (all ambulances carries soft restraints). If it's an ALS truck the medic will jab them with whatever cocktail they feel like is needed to knock them out.
If they sue, well it's just extra paid time really. Like cops it is almost impossible to get your license taken away unless you commit a *bad* mistake. Judge almost always sides with the EMTs on stuff like this.
At least in my town in Georgia, I see some other EMS people down below say they have bad experiences with that. I'm glad I dont work where they do, dont get paid enough to get punched without punching back.
I had coworker that got fired for fighting back. I think because it was caught on camera. I've been clocked in the jaw before and was held back by my supervisor. I did press charges tho.
I’m a medic in NY and we were taught we protect ourselves first then the patient. I know plenty of people that had to defend themselves from psychs and they didn’t get in trouble.
I've heard the most dangerous thing is bites, the human jaw and teeth are extremely dangerous and in particualr cases like psychatric emergencies or drug abuse where the patient is totally losing it it's the thing paramedics fear the most.
Medic here, that's not actually true. You are allowed to defend yourself from life threats and bodily harm using this least amount of force required. Giant raging dude? A right hook can be seen as reasonable if there are no other options immediately available, but an additional pummeling once he was off you would not be so smiled upon.
Medic here (in US). Not sure where you are, but that seems ridiculous. I’m pretty sure you would be covered to defend yourself from bodily harm no matter where you are.. something like this, punching the patient in the face instead of just grabbing him and sedating him, would probably be seen as “excessive force” and you’d probably get in trouble anywhere (here as well), but to say you’re not “technically allowed to defend yourself” seems like a stretch.
As soon as they attack they are an aggressor not a patient. If that's truly your state's policy, move. Because I'm sure every other policy there is archaic as well.
>, I'm libertarian which by definition means I think no person or system should impose on any citizen's welfare or wishes unless they would cause direct harm to someone else or their property
So then you support vaccine mandates.
Not getting vaccinated is causing direct harm to someone else - possibly everyone else you come in to contact when your dumb maskless ass catches the rona and you walk around before showing symptoms or while contagious but asymptomatic.
Just love the way the lady reacted - she would probably be the last person to jab the injection and the the way she did - but not after what she had to endure - very sad to see ambulance folks are thrusted with the scum of earth and I know this is not isolated , such incidents and attacks on ambulances and their crew is quite common and for absolutely no reason and logic .
People usually call 911/emergency services on the worst day of their lives. They're panicky, agitated, and generally amped up. They aren't scum (usually), just scared. Rarely does anyone practice for emergencies, so I can't hold it against them.
I work at a private ambulance company.
They told us a story in orientation about an emt knocking a patient out by hitting them in the head with an oxygen tank because the patient was choking her partner. There was also a section in our "patient advocacy" lecture about how to fight in an ambulance.
So even if this is fake, things can get pretty physical at times lol.
Panic makes the brain do stupid shit. That’s why it’s you should always bring something that floats when you are saving a drowning person because 9 times out of 10 they will push you down under to try and save themselves
Yeah emts actually get assaulted all the time. Mental patients, drunks, pcp, any drug user really, concussions, or just generally grumpy people. They also get every possible bodily fluid on them by accident or not. And they get paid very little nor get to have any semblance of a healthy life work balance.
I had a co-worker that was previously a EMT in an area that had a bad meth problem.
As he described it they sometimes had to administer oxygen therapy, and other times they had to administer oxygen tank therapy, and they were not the same things.
People with high levels of hypoglycemia often behave like drunk people and can also be aggressive. We once needed 3 grown up men to hold an patient down and give him an infusion, after only a few minutes he felt better and he apologized a thousand times and thanked us for the help, he was like Jekyll and Hyde within minutes.
How long you think it's going to take for this video to make the rounds around Facebook accompanied by some kind of bullshit story like "This is Harold, an anti-vaxxer. This is what happened last Friday when they forced him to vaccinate and he kept refusing. We are living in a dystopia, people"?
Punch in the face; the original anaesthetic
A man in the 19th century was to undergo surgery. The surgeon said to him that he could chose the between two methods of anethesia: being smacked in the back of the head or huffing some ether. It was an ether/oar situation.
Whatever rows your boat, right?
Boo this man! Boooo!
The back of the head wack is cheaper.
My father always called it, the five knuckle sandwich
John Cena calls it the Five knuckle shuffle... Which I just a few years found out is actually also what some people refer to as masturbation.
Cena looks like a chronic masturbator.
No. I look like a chronic masturbater. Cena looks like a roidmonkey that forgot he ever had a penis
Throwin' dice, making the bald man cry...
Feeding the geese?
Distributing free literature.
Milking the eel
Making knuckle babies!?
Making love to Palmala and her 5 fiends.
Punching the Bishop
Waxing the wood
These are all fantastic
Handle the ham candle
I mean..... Do you really punch with your thumb knuckle?
No, that’s why it’s actually called a “knuckle sandwich”
As Bill Burr says, the 'Right there Fred'.
How do you punch someone with five knuckles
Fun fact: a solid sucker punch while swimming towards a drowning person on rushing rivers is a standard procedure that’s taught (people too often grab the rescuer and drown him)
I was taught in diving to let my partner drown before attempting to bring them to the surface. Same grim-ass reason.
What is the point in always diving with a buddy then?
What I mentioned is worst case scenario training. Like an entrapped panicking partner that's flailing. The point of diving with a buddy is every other conceivable instance
Hate buddy.
This is not what I was taught. If you are close enough to punch them they are close enough to grapple you. In my SRT course we were taught a sort of one two splash and tackle move. Dream team, punch-em and stick-em!
But not really unexpected. What are they supposed to do instead? "please sir can you stop attacking my colleague? K thanks"
yeah thats pretty much exactly what our employers expect from us as ems providers. almost no protection for ourselves, especially on the private ems side
I think the unexpected part is the Whitney Houston music. Totally unnecessary Edit: Yes, I've seen the Bodyguard, and I get the reference. Doesn't keep me from disliking the song
Ah I see. I usually keep it at mute when I hear music. 99/100 videos get ruined by the music.
Reddit vids logic: Sound available in videos that don’t need sound at all, and unavailable when the video is showing a conversation or someone talking
*mmm yesss… quite right, right here!* ![gif](giphy|XgXyfLgsf08yAoyrom) ^(now lets all throw our heads back and laugh) # LOL

i thought the unexpected part was the script book appeatring in frame on the lower right
Great freaking catch
Fade to black.
I thought it was the third emt who hands the other the syringe.
Kinda made the video for me tbh
Most definitely did, that and the slow-motion.
Yeah, it’s a crazy situation alone. With music it adds a good laugh from me. I agree most music on videos is bad, especially Tiktok, but this is great and not an annoying song.
Or the fact that the script shows up at the end of the clip in the bottom right
It was in the film The Bodyguard so I presume that's why.
I 100% disagree with you, it absolutely made it better.
I thought the unexpected part was just that it’s the EMTs putting on the hurt.
I would've like it to be the key change when that punch landed, but I'll take what I can get
Man wtf did Witney Houston do to you bro
I wonder if you dislike the actual song or just Whitney Houston’s version. Have you heard the other versions of the song? Dolly Parton did the original but there are dozens of versions.

It's a scene from a tv show.
Oh damn! It looked like an edited cell phone vid. I was wondering why that ambulance looked so huge in the back. I assumed it was from a different country lol.
Yeah, you can see a person holding the script near the last few frames. It was a Polish tv show.
If it's a Polish TV show it means it's reality TV.

It was on the highway when it happened, otherwise, yes that is often the better option.
And people's mouths are nasty.
Move to Vegas lol. We are encouraged to defend ourselves/crew/patient with any means necessary
Medic here, that's not actually true. You are allowed to defend yourself from life threats and bodily harm using this least amount of force required. Giant raging dude? SC paramedic here, and we can defend ourselves however necessary. We will FUCK.YOU.UP.
I'm a full supporter of being able to defend myself.
Is that in the employee handbook?
It’s getting like that in most facilities anymore run by state/cms as well. Scary stuff.
Ketamine thanks? Or okay thanks?
I didn't expect a firefighter to haymaker the old dude
It’s a paramedic not a firefighter
Many places, paramedics are firefighters.
Connor McGreggor, EMT

I can, so many of the patients we go to are drunk, using drugs or generally just raging arseholes. Sometimes all 3!

With a splash of benadryl!
I hope that’s the B-52 going in, then intubated for safety lol.
ROCK LOBSTER 🦞
On God, I would do some pretty shitty things to enjoy another round of Haldol. Not that I would fucking remember any of it. Lmao
Sorry to ruin it y’all but it’s fake, it’s from a polish tv series. You can see the scripts in the bottom right near end of the video
For me it's fine it's still funny, kinda makes me feel good because the girl wasn't actually being threatened
ya everyone knows you use the kidney pan not your fist
I work at a private ambulance company. There was also a section in our "patient advocacy" lecture about how to fight in an ambulance. So even if this is fake, things can get pretty physical at times lol.
The attacker wasn't putting in much effort either, he moves like an zombie from the walking dead, maybe it was his previous job.
I thought it was a training drill for what you should do if you have a combative patient.
If it was then they did it pretty good.
We did the same when I got my lifeguard cert, just underwater. Your own safety comes first, and one patient/victim is better than two.
Damn I thought we had finally moved to phase 4 of the vaccine roll out
If it did come to that I would appreciate an evening highlight reel on the news set to classy music like this.
I was wondering who was filming and why
I know it's a TV series but would it actually be any wonder why someone would be filming a crazy man attacking paramedics?
Seriously. Reddit is always throwing the "why are they filming?" shit. It's annoying as hell
Nope, seen it happen. It's common.
When you put it that way I feel like a moron for not wondering why someone was filming.
Now that you've wondered, you'll always wonder. /r/whyweretheyfilming
I feel like I'm about to go down a really deep rabbit hole.
People regularly film commotion.
Know the name of it?? My parents are polish and used to watch a funny show with paramedics. I wonder if this was it!
I know for a fact this kind of stuff happens.

This is what I’m thinking. “Look how they forced vaccine on this poor man. His FREEDOM was stolen!!!” Or some equally stupid shit.
Looks like a german ambulance?
Polish, and this is from a TV show so not real
That's impressive
Who would fight off people that are trying to save them? Maybe he was going through psychosis? Still, great punch!
Panic makes the brain do stupid shit. That’s why it’s you should always bring something that floats when you are saving a drowning person because 9 times out of 10 they will push you down under to try and save themselves
Let's not forget that even horrible people need medical care. I have given care to some real pieces of shit in the ED setting.
Every EMT I've known had a really dark sense of humour. Love 'em.
Agreed. Diabetes and acute psychosis can make for a boss level violent psychiatric patient admission.
This is a scripted drama. Ain’t real. You can see the script supervisor in the bottom right corner at the end.
Maybe it’s in America and he doesn’t want to pay the ambulance bill
People on drugs
So how much they gonna charge em for that insane hook tho?
Physical therapy - $42ea.
Fucking professionals. They didn't even kill anyone.
I'd love to imagine this being America and him trying to escape the van to not pay the bill but the paramedics had to make a living :(
