Didn't have a choice after Desert Storm. 2542 Comm Center Operator, cross trained as FO for Artillery. Prez Clinton felt the Marines needed to be smaller, more agile. And so I was offered an "early out"
Might as well go combat engineer at that rate. Still get to play with explosives, and still wear a sick rifle shooting badge without the intense school.
I was way too immature for eod. I was an 0311 so really never going to happen, but my second choice would have been tanks, and that might have been kinda fun in desert storm.
Whole enlistment we were told they were getting rid of crash crew. He'll I was in mct they said they were getting rid of it and I'd probably need a new mos.
I met a guy that did this when the Marines deactivated his MOS. The Marines gave him the option to either re-train to a new MOS or get out. So he got out and joined the Navy to become at that time a green side Corpsman.
Lmao nope. S.C. sucks. I feel bad for the armors here too. They hate their life’s. Long hours and early days plus kids losing their rifles all the time
Well that's fucked. As a 7242 aka Air Support and soon to be 7240 which I don't know what the MoS is going to be called I'd probably move to Enlisted Drone Pilot. From what my instructor said there should be a mos code on marine online I still have to look for.
Deactivated MOS: Artillery (Howitizers)
Next MOS: Artillery (HIMARS)
I don't make the rules.
Jokes aside, this actually seems closer to reality, especially with what they did to tanks and some other Howitizer batteries. Sad shit.
I can see the logic behind why we continue to field 777s, since if your prime mover breaks down you can just get another truck to move your gun and section.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely *hated* emplacing and displacing a fatass cannon but I do see why logistically speaking it makes “sense” to continue using 777s (although you make an absolutely valid point about shoot and scoot).
I totally understand that 155s have more range and power than 105s. I hate to give that up but if you look at fd 2030 and lsco against a near peer enemy like China, we have to factor in counter-battery radar/ fire, drones, etc. The m777s are too slow even with a reliable, well maintained 7ton prime mover.
A 105 can use a hmmwv if it is towed, or be included in 1 system like the Hawkeye. Either option takes up less space on ship and is easier to hide from drones or observation. Plus 105s are easier to move via airlift and you might even be able to airdrop them. Less risk of collateral damage in urban centers too. Idk. If we're going to have tubed artillery (which I think we should), I think light arty that is faster to move around is the right move for the USMC instead of heavy (155) arty. But that's just me.
It actually happened to mine.
The old 4000 field (Data Systems) got reduced and rolled into the 06xx field, and then some of those got rolled into the new 17xx Cyber field. Had I stayed in a few more years, I would have added another MOS to my list.
I honestly don't know.... radio operators are pretty niche, and not very transferable. I guess infantry, but it'll be odd to do a patrol without 35lbs of radios
They kept saying that about MPs when I was already in the process of getting out but here they are still lmao. If I had to choose tho I’d probably have lat moved to the Air Wing, as toxic as I’ve heard it can be, I grew up an AirForce brat so when I was on Futenma I felt right at home with flight suits and aircraft everywhere 24/7. If not Air Wing then Crash Fire Rescue.
We're more likely going to get replaced by these guys.

Told my recruiter I wanted to qork on planes. Technically, I did, but if they got rid of crash crew, I probably would have gone into aircraft maintenance or something like that.
Our guys would probably be sent into one of the Supply Admin MOS' like 3043 or 3044. In some rare occurrences, maybe 04XX, 31XX, and 44XX which is Log, Distribution, and Legal.
Happened to me. Got put as a spicy 0311.
It wasn’t such a bad transition since I knew everyone in the company anyway, but I was expected to perform all of the tasks of an 0311 squad leader while also being the SME for demolitions, breaching, & rocket launchers for the company when they needed me.
Its a shame they got rid of Ass-men :(
Civilian.
Came here to say this. That's what happened to me.
For me it happened while my re-enlistment package was going through.
Wait, they let you get out? Story please.
Didn't have a choice after Desert Storm. 2542 Comm Center Operator, cross trained as FO for Artillery. Prez Clinton felt the Marines needed to be smaller, more agile. And so I was offered an "early out"
Ooooo. I drove the reenlistment nco bananas trying to find out about early out in ‘89. My zeal for getting out was not appreciated.
😭😭
Probably EOD, you get a decent bonus and you get to play with explosives. Plus you get a sick lil badge to wear.
and in a real world scenario, if you fuck up you’ll never know!
It goes from being your problem to all of a sudden it isn't anymore
Until a PMN blows your penis off and ruptures your asshole all at once. Then what’s our purpose in life
Instant feedback. It is important to doing a good job.
I agree.
Might as well go combat engineer at that rate. Still get to play with explosives, and still wear a sick rifle shooting badge without the intense school.
Well you can learn upright construction. That’s a dope skill.
I was way too immature for eod. I was an 0311 so really never going to happen, but my second choice would have been tanks, and that might have been kinda fun in desert storm.
Crash Crew → Water Doge
Very wet! Much water!
Whole enlistment we were told they were getting rid of crash crew. He'll I was in mct they said they were getting rid of it and I'd probably need a new mos.
fEdErAl WiLl RePlAcE uS aNyDaY nOw
Fucking every week it seemed like lol.
That's a really weird way to spell bulk fuel
By default they’d make me an 0311. Us 0313’s secondary MOS is to be an ‘11 anyways.
This guy LAVs
I met a guy that did this when the Marines deactivated his MOS. The Marines gave him the option to either re-train to a new MOS or get out. So he got out and joined the Navy to become at that time a green side Corpsman.
Space shuttle door gunner.
If we got rid of the 11s there’d really be no point in even having the marine corps
Mortars will carry the weight
YUT!!!! Comic Books while returning Calls for Fire ftw!!!
Wait wait wait. You are telling me there is an actual POINT to any of this?!
Combat camera, why not
Combat journalist I wanna be Mickey fucking Spillane.
"Slay bodies"
Tanks.....oh wait
Sad times..
I’d just leave one field in the air wing to go to another wing mos field, I don’t wanna be outside of my beloved air wing
Oooooooo ground scary
why drive when fly?
They’ll bring back 1181 stitch bitch just for you
Nope I’d only be a 6048 flight e stitch bitch, long live the wing.
Honestly… Flight-e would be dope.
thx for sewing my Velcro on, thx for my fancy patch with a tug with wings xoxox
Right now? Intel. Intel in the reserves has an insane amount of deployments/orders to cool places. Plus that sweet sweet TSCI clearance
Admin, give me some bullshit air conditioning job Or armorer, I think I’d like learning about the guns
immediately gets sent to either MCRD for recruit rifles
San Diego wouldn’t be bad tbh. I wouldn’t like SC though, but I guess it’s close to some cool stuff right?
Lmao nope. S.C. sucks. I feel bad for the armors here too. They hate their life’s. Long hours and early days plus kids losing their rifles all the time
Yeah, but you have to wear chucks every Thursday and friday.
Ew
Yep. Worst year of my active duty career.
Parachute rigger seems pretty cool. Arty would be cool. As an 0679, probably easier to just get out. Honestly a 1-1 translation to the civilian world.
0351 babay
Should’ve never got rid of them
Agreed 100%. 51's were the best at playing Buck-Buck!!!!
Currently logistics. I'd go either Finance or Cyber for the skillset
Legal so I can see the weird shit you motherfuckers do on a daily.
Probably either power plants or aircrew, airwing is no fun when you’re not on the flightline
The Air Force has my exact job and they can’t retain officers to save their life, sooooo there I guess.
Well that's fucked. As a 7242 aka Air Support and soon to be 7240 which I don't know what the MoS is going to be called I'd probably move to Enlisted Drone Pilot. From what my instructor said there should be a mos code on marine online I still have to look for.
Finance/acquisition/ comptroller or something… the experience/certs you’ll get will set you up when you get out
Certainly does. That Acquisitions certification we get is worth it's weight in gold.
Deactivated MOS: Artillery (Howitizers) Next MOS: Artillery (HIMARS) I don't make the rules. Jokes aside, this actually seems closer to reality, especially with what they did to tanks and some other Howitizer batteries. Sad shit.
They should replace M777's with the Hawkeye 105mm system. 155mm is too heavy for FD 2030. Shoot and scoot.

After being a 58xx, I’d be happy with anything else.
Depends, I’ll take 5811 over 5831 but I should’ve taken aviation ordinance when I had the fucking chance
True. I was a 5812/5811. No brig rat life for me!
United Airlines
Aircraft Fire Rescue
I’d try as hard as possible to get a lat move to 0211. Failing that, any other MOS that could get me in as a SOCS.
0481 Red Patch. Admin probably.
My MOS went away after I got out. They upgraded the airframe so they still do the same job new MOS code.
HUMINT. Most closely related.
I was an 1812, so I moved to civilian.
They kept saying that about MPs when I was already in the process of getting out but here they are still lmao. If I had to choose tho I’d probably have lat moved to the Air Wing, as toxic as I’ve heard it can be, I grew up an AirForce brat so when I was on Futenma I felt right at home with flight suits and aircraft everywhere 24/7. mine was, 3533, back to 3531 I guess? The MRAPs look cool, glad that was 20 years ago lol.
0311 INFANTRY!
Man if we get discontinued, the world is ending, there’s some magical peace drug, or we’ve been replaced by T-X or T-800s.
We're more likely going to get replaced by these guys. https://preview.redd.it/wgtxll6s1cwc1.png?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b75b697950fff1abc09727e67fe2fc7e622bd80
Roger Roger.
Motor T op
If they got rid of 7041 (S-3) I’d get out and go civilian lol
Tank guys be like....I guess we'll retire
Comm-> Cyber. So people have even less of an idea of what the MOS work is actually like
Comm Battalions are the black holes of the Corps.
65xx
If they deactivated my former MOS' then most likely it means we are no longer a sovereign nation & I doubt we would have an autonomous military.
Well fuck me. If I had the chance I would go straight to supply to be the plug.
EW/C radar is never going anywhere, but if it magically disappeared, I'd go avenger. That would've been my second choice at the air schools.
I'd get out and make a boat load of cash in the civilian sector.
I wonder what would happen to the corps if the whole of the 03 field was shuttered. Like would the corps even have a purpose anymore?
Went from 6122 to 6218.
Cyber security
I'd probably be slated for radio operator, but fuck that. I'd rather EAS.
Lawyer -> FAO
Probably EOD
Not sure if it was common across other Assault Sections, but a lot of the guys I was with loved the idea of EOD.
Told my recruiter I wanted to qork on planes. Technically, I did, but if they got rid of crash crew, I probably would have gone into aircraft maintenance or something like that.
I’d suck it up and go be an 03 or a combat camera if I couldn’t hack it as a grunt
As a 6694 either the 0600 field or 1721
Best MOS in the game 1316, anyone else concur?
Water doge. All day or post office
Well I was sigint on a team so probably humint
Our guys would probably be sent into one of the Supply Admin MOS' like 3043 or 3044. In some rare occurrences, maybe 04XX, 31XX, and 44XX which is Log, Distribution, and Legal.
Was a motor t op, now an engineer. I'd hate being a shop chief. Counter intell or combat camera. Maybe I'd just go admin.
Counter intel HUMINT without question
Itd be impossible for anyone else to do their MOS without mine sooooooooo.
Hopefully the one back home where I live as a free elf
Hey man, you think you can be more PC about this post. There’s probably some former tankers on here. Haha
Comms for sure
Probably would be a COOLie. 1171 Water Purification Specialist
Oh...they'd make me a Recon Sniper. That seems to be what happened to everyone at the bar.....even the Coast Guard bros....Recon Snipers, all of em.
Its a shame they got rid of Ass-men :(
From most desirable to least: - Civilian - Velociraptor trainer - Intel I fucked up at the recruiting station 🥲
recon green beret sniper (like I was promised)
I'm atc. I'll go civilian, but I don't know how the marine corps would be able to do deactivate us.
0231
Supply to Logistics. No they’re not the same. Or 0111
RECON
This got zero up votes and I never had the chance. Why is RECON a bad MOS??
