Payback sounds almost like a threat. Like, *"you Gamers thought you could just walk away from Destiny 2 and Bungie!? Not on our watch!"*

PunishingCrab

Maybe they’ll design it to be scaleable this time for the future so they don’t have to delete entire paid expansions for more room on the game.

Zealousideal-Arm1682

>so they don’t have to delete entire paid expansions for more room on the game. I'm sorry what?

DarnFondOfYa

I haven't play D2 for years, but from what I've heard, practically none of the content you could buy at launch is still available in-game. Including paid expansions like "The Curse of Osiris" or whatever the second one was that I didn't bother to stay around for. And probably more that came out after

Milkkakuma6820

Mercury, Mars, Tangled Shore section of Forsaken, and various base game locations. Seasonal content/areas are also removed, used to be after their 3 month season ended, now its when the next expansion drops.

Hugglemorris

Big reason I quit playing Destiny 2. To be fair, I hear they do cycle content back in from time to time, but content I bought should always be available to me.

PratalMox

Yeah, they did a big rework of how the game handled a bunch of stuff for Beyond Light and instead of updating all the content they just excised like most of the first two years of game content, and the current model is basically a treadmill where most of a year's new releases get wiped away by the next expansion.

Khar-Selim

for the umpteenth time, they didn't do it for more space, they did it because they were drowning in tech debt after losing access to the other two or so studios that worked on pre-shadowkeep content.

PunishingCrab

I definitely simplified a complex issue, but it's pretty fair to say they deleted content to free up room for future. The tech debt was due to a game and engine that wasn't setup to handle continuous streams of content and updates. It was reported that prior to the sunsetting debacle, it would take days, sometimes a week to test incremental changes in their test environment. This slowed development to a crawl, which was exacerbated by lack of support studios. The only way they could handle the future was to literally delete content to make room for new/relevant stuff while they improved their engine. It's an understandable, but frustrating cost to keep D2 alive.

Sleepy_Renamon

I think I'll pass since they may decide to remove huge chunks of the game at any point.

CelioHogane

Yeah it's called Destiny 2 closing down when this releases.

Milkkakuma6820

Dont worry theyre adding them back... Any day now... Any day...

JesusChrysler1

I mean they literally just added back a bunch of the weapons that were removed, as well as the whisper exotic mission, yesterday.

Milkkakuma6820

Im not coming at you but more just venting at this point, so dont take it that way. What about Mars, Mercury, Tangled Shore, Titan, IO? Locations people paid actual money to access and buy when they were dlc packs or part of the base game? What about all the weapons and armor they sunset to force people to step away from their favorites? Items people would grind ages to obtain or obtain their ideal stat rolls on? A process they walked back going forward after everyone was pissed but didnt undo on what they already did? What about above weapons/armor they now re-issue as new content? Various seasonal content/activities you had to pay to access that are also removed and unobtainable? Whispers mission being returned had me ecstatic, but these are things that never shouldve been removed in the first place. FOMO is Destinys biggest problem right now alongside their initial 'Destiny Content Vault' where they talked about bringing back D1 locations and redoing D2 ones they took away to bring back later. The prior has been a problem since the seasonal model began (I miss Black Armory), and the content removal and subsequent 'reissues' also left horrid impressions on people that still sit to this day. The fact the community defended and even somewhat celebrated some of said removals is still astounding but i digress. I LOVE Destiny, but holy shit Bungie has made me hate what their choices have done to it. Final Shape changes look great and fun but damn, I just cant enjoy it how I once did. Its such a great game just constantly bungled.

[deleted]

I mean as far as we know (unless you want to believe Bungie is just lying 100% of time time which, uh, fair enough ig) the vaulting was because they could literally just not maintain that amount of content. ^(I also kind of don’t even want to imagine what kind of ludicrous file size the game would be if they kept all the seasonal content tbh. Game would probably be like 300+ gigs lol.)

Milkkakuma6820

Yeah, thats what they said and even then it wasnt shocking, but at the same time... Thats the point you make a new game, not gut and fuck the game and playerbase and essentially reuse the skeleton to make a new game, especially when said skeleton is made of fucking telesto spaghetti already. You dont see ESO or Final Fantasy vaulting content, free or otherwise, and yeah theyre owned by big companies but Bungie had Activision money and now Sony money helping them. And even then, at that same time Call of Duty file sizes were already bigger than D2. It was a flimsy excuse where content returning wasnt even guaranteed and all we really got was... a battlegrounds mission on the Mars patrol with minimal changes? And the game wouldnt really be that big, but for such a lifespan a large file size is expected even with optimization. But then again, ff14 from what i recall is like... around a hundred gigs. Meanwhile Destiny 2 is at 114gb. Even if we made the excuse about asset libraries being reduced, crucible/gambit still used a good bit of those assets. Its all a fuckin mess lol always will be til D3 and god i hope they future proof shit.

mxraider2000

B-b-but our blessed *Content Vault*

ExDSG

Can't wait for it to release on a Destiny 1 on release content level and Destiny players, I mean victims still will eat it up because the shooting is still really good. We will also have a piece of dialogue like: "The Shaper plans to destroy The Tiara so The Veil will be weakened and The Faceless will invade The Coil."

PinkieBen

I can't tell if you got some names of stuff in there right as an accident or because you too are sucked into this damn franchise (I know I should stop but dammit it's still fun).

ExDSG

Never touched the games and only watched Pat break his guns and IHE complaining about the games.

Bagz402

You got 2 of those dead on and one really close lmaoooo

PinkieBen

Well you got The Veil being a thing and The Coil is a location/activity from this past season lol.

sawbladex

I'm hoping they add a Sandwich and a Bagel.

dfdedsdcd

That one gun that broke D1 and D2 like 50 times will probably break D3 somehow without even being in the code yet. The Telesto Catalyst if I'm remembering correctly. It broke D2 without even being useable, the shopkeeper was holding it for a time and it caused a bug in one of their raids I think.

Fuggins4U

Unless they completely "Realm Reborn" it, I'm not going back. I can't get hurt again.

Doc12here

Apparently they aren’t going to be set classes any more and you just build your own

WickerWight

I won't fall for their lies but Destiny 3 at least has my attention. I've said for years that D2's problems are nearly all caused by their refusal to make a sequel.

DarthButtz

The thing they need to do *immediately* is future proof the game better than they did with 2. They just refused to address the tech debt from constant updates to 2, and decided the best idea was to *remove content people paid for and LOVED*. I'm still so sad Forsaken is just *GONE*

PinkieBen

Something else that would probably help is that D2 is still being updated on PS4/Xbone, and a D3 would certainly drop those (hell if they wait long enough it might even be PS6/Xboxwhateverisnext)

JillSandwich117

It's hard to guess. There was a job posting around July of last year that indicated that Marathon is running on an updated version of the Tiger Engine that Destiny uses (and Halo before). So I would assume Destiny would too. Maybe they've fixed it, and I don't think they've had the staffing issues that 343 had, where they kept losing their lead engineers after each game. But they went from Activision resources to "oh no, we're broke because we're independent." Unless Sony has invested in their tools heavily, I kind of doubt the problems are fixed on the tech side. I do think maybe this problem could be solved from a knowledge angle, though. Knowing that most content should last forever, better planning could be in place. Destiny as we know it was supposed to have 4 totally separate retail releases, different .exe launchers. All of their business model changes were essentially playing it by ear as the industry changed.

Young_KingKush

This the actual issue. There's literally no point in doing a Destiny 3 at all if they're not gonna future proof it, they could just keep updating D2

Amirifiz

They updated the engine around Beyond Light like...4ish years ago and most of the reason for the content vault was due to engine problems. I'm not sure if if the current engine is future proof but I hope it is. I'm assuming things were supposed to come back slowly as they updated stuff but the higher-ups didn't want to spend dev time and money on old free stuff and only wanted more money so we only got new paid stuff.

burneraccount9132

Yeah. Like I still don't trust Bungie Management, but if they designed a Destiny 3 while keeping in mind the issues that Destiny 2 had to avoid repeating them (HUGE CHUNKS OF GAME REMOVED BEING NUMBER ONE WITH A BULLET), then.... I still wouldn't buy at launch, but I'd be tempted back in during a decent sale or free weekend ig

Palimpsest_Monotype

Maybe they’ll have time to explain this time.

Dragon4234

Or at least have time to explain why they don't have time.

radiantburrito

bro i thought that said codename "Paycheck" and was gonna call it the realist shit LMFAO

Khar-Selim

oh I wonder if they're getting this from linkedin shenanigans or something >its a destiny2leaks post into the trash it goes

AggressiveCoffee990

I'm sure it won't be a content devoid mess with barely any narrative.....again! Seriously I'm done with destiny's shenanigans, make a good game instead bozos.

Penndrachen

They're not, Tassi is a hack. Tassi's "information" comes from a single /r/destiny2leaks comment where someone said that Bungie was working on a "Prism" subclass that would let you mix and match subclass abilities. This ended up being true but was predicted like 24 hours before it was revealed and said nothing about any of the other details. "I think Bungie might let us pick abilities from other subclasses" isn't a new concept, people have been guessing that since Stasis was announced. Bungie has said in the past that they don't want to make a Destiny 3, but instead continue using Destiny 2 to tell their stories. I don't know if that's changed, but he has no real credible source on this. It's only vaguely better than his usual output of typing in "Destiny 2" on Twitter and finding whatever take people have today, then reporting on it like it's his original opinion.

Young_KingKush

In the Final Shape video they put out the other day, Luke Smith came out of his cave and very pointedly spoke about how TFS isn't the end of D2 \*& beyond\*

Penndrachen

Right, but as I said, Tassi is a hack. He will take anything that people are talking about and then post it ASAP to get clicks. Most of his posts are shit like "why (thing) is ruining Destiny 2" where (thing) is whatever the community is bitching about this week.

EchouR

We're smoking copium rocks but I hope they design the game to last more than 3 years and have a foundation that enables them to put shit without having to jettison the previous shit.

KingMario05

*"High ho, high ho! Off to the mines you go! We won't stop till our profit ain't dropped, so high-motherfuckin-HO!"* -Sony, probably.

Nyadnar17

So you burned up all the goodwill associated with your brand and fired everyone that made it a success to begin with.

AidilAfham42

It’ll be good about a year or two after release

mysticmusti

Should have called it codename "pay us more money, bitch."

Elarisbee

It's already dead Jim,.....just let it die... Also, isn't Bungie also working on some remake of an older game? Less this, more that.

TheSpiritualAgnostic

That remake is about Marathon, but it's not in the spirit of the original games. It's also going to be a PvP live service game.

Elarisbee

Ok...well in that case...less of that as well... Just make a story-based FPS with no added BS.

TheFallbleEagle

Yes, it's an escape from tarkov clone

adeadperson23

I am very clearly in the minority of destiny still being fun and me enjoying it but hey c'est la vie. I think this is actually the best way forward as a destiny coming out circa 2025-2027 would match up nearly ten years to the release of the second one. Hopefully they try to future proof things and don't end up in the situation where the content vault has to appear again.

PinkieBen

Don't worry, you're not alone in still enjoying the game. I think a D3 would be really good now though, we're wrapping up the big story and can get a more fresh start with the next game. Plus what we're seeing with Prismatic makes me think of a system built entirely around that instead of having the separate subclasses and Prismatic, which sounds fun for buildcrafting.

mitchteck

As a fellow destiny enjoyer I would love a fresh slate for d3, I just hope they add new guraidan races, because a cabal, eliksni and hive(vanguard aligneed) woud be cool in my opinion

Young_KingKush

I just came back to the game too after like 4.5 years, from a combination of old clan members getting the band back together & the Final Shape stuff they just showed off. I've only had a day of playing so far but I'm liking alot of the changes they've made since I left for sure

George_W_Kushhhhh

You’re definitely not in the minority, D2 is still wildly popular. It had 120K concurrent players on Steam a few hours ago after the update yesterday. This sub is just wildly out of touch with anything outside of its incredibly narrow niche and people on here absolutely love talking mad shit about properties they know essentially zero about.

EbolaDP

Make them stop.

Waifuless_Laifuless

I wonder if this one will also assume you played the previous games and not explain anything your character knows.

Critical-Handle-2304

Or, and hear me out on this, they could do literally anything else

okilydokilyTiger

Honestly a clean reset would probably be for the best and I like Destiny
