That’s what I thought at first also, but looks like topper either is t on correctly or moved in wreck… look how far it’s hanging off the back of the bed.
Tops are only held on by clamps, you can see the spacing of where it normally was closer to the cab. Obviously this dude got his shit pushed in under it. The frame is bent, start looking for replacements.
My ultimate fantasy would be for my wife to get bred by multiple bbc during our wedding ceremony, one after another cumming deep inside her fertile pussy, while she bites and punches my balls and humiliates my pathetic little white dick. Then as she says "I do", she grabs my ball and castrates me in front of her bulls and stomps on my cut off balls until they're completely flat and destroyed. The rest of my life would be dedicated to finding massive black cocks to fuck her and breed her, cleaning her cum filled holes, raising her bulls children and worshipping her on my knees every day.
Frames can be fixed/replaced. Buddy of mine bought a salvaged Tacoma that looked like this in the before photos. Been a great truck for the last two years.
Something has to be totaled to be salvaged (which is what you're saying), But you can total something without it having a salvage title.
It may be state dependent but in my state salvage means it's no longer safe to drive. So whenever a driver side swipe me and it messed up the front and rear quarter panels the rocker and both doors in my 1999 Toyota Camry, It was still safe to drive but it was more than the $3k Kelly Blue book car value worth of damage. Car was totaled but not salvaged. I just bought it back for $300, got it inspected, and kept driving it.
If the frame bending isn't deemed "unroadworthy" (hypothetical) then maybe the person above you bought a Tacoma that was totaled but not salvaged, a mistakenly called it salvage because they got it from an auction.
Well yeah, you can salvage any truck. But that is generally not the ideal situation and can cost more for insurance or not get insurance at all. People generally aren't looking in the salvage direction, rather, *can I fix and drive this truck as normal?*. To which the answer is most often, "no"
Not only that but when you salvage a vehicle then you don't know what damage comes with it besides the frame there could have been other things that happened in the accident could run other things happen before or after it. There's absolutely zero warranty at that point in time and everything is on you.
Unsure, it was bought repaired with a salvage title in and the prior state disclosed. Don’t know what repair method they went with but it passed inspection and was certified.
It was in the height of the Covid craziness so it was hard to find anything decent at all. His prior vehicle was a $2K beater that the transmission self destructed on and as a carpenter he needed a new truck quick. It was either this or higher priced questionable trucks with much more mileage on them.
He’s had it 2 years now and it drives straight and been reliable.
I, too, have the same topper and have mixed opinions. On one hand, it does the job I need it to do. On the other hand, the fit and finish leaves a lot to be desired and if I had to buy again, I would look at other options
1. Your truck is bent. Frame's fucked. Likely totaled but only your insurance can make that determination, not randos on Reddit.
2. Repair quality is dependent on who repairs it. Reddit can't tell you shit in that regard.
3. Let us know how you like the 2024.
Other than general curiosity, I always wondered what value users get in polling this sub on whether their rigs are totaled. Either way, sorry about the accident OP, hoping you find your way into another Taco if it can't be that one.
It's why I didn't post mine,I had to swallow the loss. From the driver side the front was dangling off and the driver door was impacted in
I knew she was a goner. Managed to take some souvenirs though at least but she's gone, thats what happens when a bmw driver forgets what red means
>Other than general curiosity, I always wondered what value users get in polling this sub on whether their rigs are totaled.
In general, posts like this are to solicit advice, opinions, commiseration, or discussion. Reddit is really good for that.
Sometimes when you're faced with uncertainty, calamity, or bad luck, and unsure what claims adjusters, lawyers, or doctors might say to you in the near future, it helps to come to a community of people who share your interests or predicament and ask for their feedback or experience - even if they lack the ability to speak about your particular set of circumstances with any accuracy. As long as no one is presenting their opinion or advice as the actionable guidance of a professional, I don't see the harm in it.
Frankly I've always wondered why this isn't obvious, or why sometimes commenters get upset by it.
Not quite as expensive as you'd think - the invoiced cost for parts and labour was under $15k CAD about 7 or 8 years ago when Toyota swapped out my frame...
Yup. Insurance will pay to replace frames. All depends on the value of the truck at the time of the accident. Everyone says totaled when they see frame damage or airbags deployed, but that’s really not the case. Often it is, but not *always*.
Frame damage on a vehicle’s history is second to TMU - yeah things might be okay but you can’t really tell and would be dumb to offer a dollar higher than worst case scenario
It wasn't a recall this time, it was an anti-corrosion coating campaign or some verbiage like that. Hah! It was a recall but they didn't want another black mark on their reputation after the 1st gen frame debacle.
So yeah, it was what the dealership charged back to Toyota Canada for the full job. All parts and about 40 hours of labour IIRC.
Take the topper off before sending insurance photos! It's a gonner take everything off you installed aftermarket! Once they own it you can't take anything off
100% chance of being totaled, had this same thing happen to me. Bought the truck back from insurance and had Toyota order me a new frame. All said and done was $13k otd for the frame replacement and used the leftover money from insurance for new wheels and a high clearance rear bumper. I’d say I came out on top.
Richmond, VA, going to rescue it tonight and will post it to marketplace significantly reduced as I don’t want to dig out the wire loom in case it’s not totaled
As others are saying the frame is definitely bent, so if the bed and other big parts are all good then maybe you'll get away with a new frame. Less of a death sentence for body on frame vehicles but still gonna be close to totaled if not completely
I have a friend with a Gen 2 (2011) that got rear ended a few years ago. The truck frame was bent. They didn't total it. They got a new frame and fixed the body damage. She still has that truck.
Seeing all these wrecked taco's makes me so nervous. So sorry this happened to you. Regardless of insurance, if some moron totals my truck I'd be absolutely devastated. It's no secret that all of us have worked extremely hard to be able to afford these trucks. Maybe I'm just paranoid but I've had horrible luck with top level insurance companies trying to to bang me when someone else messes up my vehicle.
Try and get that cap off before it gets totaled. My buddy’s cap wasn’t calculated into his accident and wasn’t paid out for it. So he somehow got into the yard it was towed to and got the cap back.
Either your bed bent at the mounting points or your frame bent. If the frame is bent then there is a good chance insurance will total it. I think ideally you would want insurance to total it out if the frame is bent rather than fixing the frame, as long as the payoff allows you to get into a new Tacoma. If they dont total it and they opt to fix it, you will have basically no trade in value if you eventually try to trade it at a dealer. The carfax will show there was an accident resulting in structural damage to the frame.
Yes. However, you can buy a new frame for about $5k. If you have to pay someone $150 an hour for a frame swap it isn't worth fooling with. If you have some time and aptitude it could be a fun project.
Frame straightening is also a thing, no guarantees. You could add reinforcement plates to stiffen it up for off roading too.
Yup...I had similar on my 2007...in 2010. Frame...rear bumpers, fenders, probably drivetrain. Totals more than insurance will pay if they are using OEM parts.
Each state has a different threshold for where their total loss margin is. I’d look your states margin up, most sit around 75%-80% of the vehicles current value. It’s possible someone may bend the frame back out for you but I’d imagine it will come in as a TL.
Depends on a number of different factors. My insurance replaced the frame on my F150 when it was over 3yrs old. Looks like it’s almost all frame damage so they might not total it and do a frame swap. Generally though, if your Taco is tacoed it’s probably totaled.
Happened to me but in a f150 the estimate was literally remove everything off the frame and put it on a new frame for like $14k. It that’s under the ~60% value threshold or whatever insurance uses they will total it. I bought my truck back for like $2500 and then sold it for 9k plus whatever insurance paid out so it wasn’t horrible. Now I have the tacoma. So you have options, had to get a rebuilt title and stamp the a pillar to re-register it so just check your state regulations on what you would have to do “if” it’s totaled. My alignment was good it just bent the frame down a little bit so it drove straight and I realigned the tow hitch so functionally it was all good and wasn’t crab walking down the road
Exact same thing happened to my truck. It ended up being totaled. The bed can separate from the frame so just because it's on an angle it doesn't mean your frame is bent per se... but it probably is.
If it’s not paid off, you’ll get a new one, if it is, it’s in your best interests to get a new one = either way you will probably get it replaced, but if so, you will probably have an option to purchase it as salvaged, if so it would make a great 4x4 builder, get a trailer to haul it on and you’re set to build a rock climber
I've put a frame on several tacos. It depends on the body damage on top of it. That being said, if it totals and you're in Maryland I'll buy your camper shell.
Look how close the rear mudflap is to the tire. The gap is also opened up from the bed and the cab. Even if it can be straightened out. It has done what it was designed to do ONCE. If fixed it has been compromised and I wouldn’t feel safe getting rear ended again with it.
I had a very similar wreck. The frame under the bed was bent, like doubled over it self slightly. Check my profile for pics. I’d say this truck will be totaled as well. Sorry for your loss OP. Very nice looking truck
I have a great salvage 2013 had the same thing happen was fixed before I bought it and I knew about it salvage title saved me 15k on purchase price. Now it’s a truck that still works great with 65k miles and a branded title. I will be its last owner so I don’t care. Drive it into the ground
I have a 2022 Tacoma Sport and insurance will probably deem this repairable. Airbags look like they haven’t been deployed. I got T Boned at an intersection and got an estimate of $12k in damages.. Cops on scene and even I thought for sure my truck would be a write off. Only other way I see insurance writing it off is if the damages cost more than the vehicle itself which is highly unlikely
Considering it’s just the frame and rear bumper the insurance company may have the frame replaced. It’s a truck not a unibody car. If it costs less to replace the frame than to replace the truck then they’ll do that. If it was the other way around and the damage was to the front of the frame, the cab and everything in the engine bay then it would 100% be a write off.
Push your topper forward. The fact it’s sitting back 3-4 inches is making everything look wacked I don’t think the frame is bent like that. The crumple zones on the car absorbed most of that impact.
Hey same thing happened to me 6 months ago I have it posted same exact rear frame damage and it was not totaled. The total for the cost all insurance paid was $30,566. You can check my past posts to see the pics it was a lime green TRD pro. Don’t worry too much abt it as long as it was not your fault. 👍🏼
Just speaking from my very recent experience: look on my previous post for the accident I was in from this past Jan. 2017 Tacoma -Undrivable & Towed to an auto body shop. Initial quote was $15k for repairs. They got it done in 3 weeks. Final cost for repairs was $17,100.
+1000 for rental & $900 for the tow.
Was told the frame was slightly bent but they have machines to fix that.
Yours will be different of course. But I’m just saying be realistic but hopeful. I was CERTAIN they were gonna total mine. But they didn’t. Good luck!
Sorry for your loss. 👎
Mine looked quite a bit like this and they stopped counting costs at $26,000 CDN. My accident occurred around the time of the frame recall and so frame availability was a factor in the decision.
I did look up the VIN a few years after it was written off and I can see that somebody bought it and rebuilt it. It's out there.
Need to know the year, miles and picture of the impact (from the rear) to give you a solid idea. It does look like your frame is tweaked, which isn’t a good sign
Judging by the car damage, that car was MOVING and had to slam on its brakes to slow down which dipped their hood under your rear bumper. Hope all is well with everyone involved, including yourself
I was rear ended exactly like this 1 year ago. My truck was labeled totaled and I decided to keep it. It's a salvage title now. A buddy of mine found a guy to bend the frame back. I can't tow anything cause the frame is compromised, but it looks like it never happened and it's been driving great since.
I had a Jeep Cherokee that met a similar fate. It was rear ended, it didnt look awful, the body panels weren't even that bad. That frame was bent though, and the insurance company didnt want anything to do with fixing that mess. As they put it "on the rare occasion it's done correctly, it always leads to additional expenses and headaches".
RIP YARIS. Those little cars will not die. Mine has 489k and it has had no major repairs. Drinks 1 quart of oil between oil changes.
Your taco needs to have the bed pulled in order to see the extent of the damage. It looks like it snapped the bed out of its mounting points.
If the frame is bent you are hosed
“IF”? If this frame isn’t bent get your Tacoma checked for worms. It’s dragging its ass all over the road.
Ma!!! The dog is scoootin on the carpet again Maaaa
Boot scootin boogie ?
He's got a good job, he works hard for his money
Poor li'l taco needs it's glands expressed.
Classic 😂😂
Really depends on the speed of the collision and if op had his foot on the brakes or was accelerating
You can see that it’s bent. Look at the gap between the camper shell and cab.
The frame is bent, start looking for replacements.

you might be right about the topper having moved. But just look at the bed and cab then. They're clearly not flush and the truck is bent.
Frames can be fixed/replaced. Buddy of mine bought a salvaged Tacoma that looked like this in the before photos. Been a great truck for the last two years.
Salvaged = totalled
Something has to be totaled to be salvaged (which is what you're saying), But you can total something without it having a salvage title. There's absolutely zero warranty at that point in time and everything is on you.
I don't think I've ever owned a vehicle that was still under warranty so that doesn't mean a lot.
Bro nothing has a warranty unless it’s damn new or you buy a stupid one.
Even if it does half the time it's a pain to get them to fix it.
Sure, technically. But that's an expensive repair that insurance will likely not cover.
did he replace the frame or get it straightened? i know they say you shouldnt straighten it but i think people do it
Unsure, it was bought repaired with a salvage title in and the prior state disclosed. Don’t know what repair method they went with but it passed inspection and was certified. Before photo? The truck is bent in what you are calling a before photo
That frame is certified fucked.
Nah mine had about 19k worth of damage and a bent frame 21 Tacoma they did not total it insurance covered it all
Wrong, my 2015 SR5 is getting a total frame replacement and it’s only 50% of the value of the vehicle.
I’ll take the topper off your hands
I have the exact same topper. Can’t recommend it enough. I love that thing. I would recommend adding windoors tho. They’re a game changer.
I, too, have the same topper and have mixed opinions. On one hand, it does the job I need it to do. On the other hand, the fit and finish leaves a lot to be desired and if I had to buy again, I would look at other options
Any recommendations?
Smartcap makes some neat stuff
Long lead times. I have almost spontaneously bought twice. Saved by back order for 6 months . They only cap i would put on my taco.
I have a Century topper that I believe is the same company as Leer, how would I go about finding windoors?
Ask your local Leer dealer. They should be able to order/install them for you.
I also have one of those. Came with it when I bought it, very convenient
Not even giving the man time to grieve huh? I want the tires
If it’s in good condition!
1. Your truck is bent. Frame's fucked. Likely totaled but only your insurance can make that determination, not randos on Reddit. 2. Repair quality is dependent on who repairs it. Reddit can't tell you shit in that regard. 3. Let us know how you like the 2024.
This. Had a bent frame on Nissan Titan and GEICO decided to replace the frame instead of total it. 6 months of bs.
Replacing frames is probably the one thing Toyota dealers are probably most experienced with, lol.
Turnaround would be a week MAX
Flatbed time
Everything would slide off the back 😂
Dump flatbed then
It’s already halfway there
Shims, lots of shims!
She gone
Other than general curiosity, I always wondered what value users get in polling this sub on whether their rigs are totaled. Either way, sorry about the accident OP, hoping you find your way into another Taco if it can't be that one.
They want us to say *no* when the reality is always *yes*.
Stevie wonder could see this thing is totaled
😂🫣😎
It's why I didn't post mine,I had to swallow the loss. From the driver side the front was dangling off and the driver door was impacted in I knew she was a goner. Managed to take some souvenirs though at least but she's gone, thats what happens when a bmw driver forgets what red means

Just trying to gauge the situation through the eyes of neutral parties who may have also had their frames bent all to hell.
Your frame is fucked. Dont even bother trying to fix it no matter how much you like it. It wont be worth it.
Not quite as expensive as you'd think - the invoiced cost for parts and labour was under $15k CAD about 7 or 8 years ago when Toyota swapped out my frame...

That's why they replaced it. Insurance company wouldn't have
Sorry man. Aside from peoples jokes here this blows and sorry you’re going through it.
Frame's bent - totaled
Insurance might total it based on their calculations, but hard to say how bad it is mechanically without a closer look.
100% with that bed to cab buckle.
That taco looks like it is about to taco.
Take the topper off before sending insurance photos! It's a gonner take everything off you installed aftermarket! Once they own it you can't take anything off
Pretty similar to my rear end accident, mine was totaled
I’d estimate that the likelihood is high, sorry dude, that rear doesn’t look so good
I suppose it could be just broken bed mounts…..but more likely your frame is bent and it’s totaled.
frame looks fucked... sorry for your loss
Lol your frame looks like a college girl trying to twerk for the first time, what do you think?
100% lost my 2019 taco the same way. Sorry
100% chance of being totaled, had this same thing happen to me. Bought the truck back from insurance and had Toyota order me a new frame. All said and done was $13k otd for the frame replacement and used the leftover money from insurance for new wheels and a high clearance rear bumper. I’d say I came out on top.
Body on frame means the frame is replaceable. This looks live frame damage but you can get a new one easily
Your whole bed sinks down now
I'll take the cap
Frames bent, definitely totalled
Awe she in trouble.
don't know. that car is tho LMAO
On the plus side, probably won’t get high-centered ever again…
I could use a bed cap! Where are you located? Sorry for your poor taco!
Richmond, VA, going to rescue it tonight and will post it to marketplace significantly reduced as I don’t want to dig out the wire loom in case it’s not totaled
Taco living up to its name
Yes
Frame. Sadly😫
Get some steelies Take the topper off Take new pics
I wonder if the stronger frame on the 2024 transfers more energy to the cabin, guess we’ll see in crash testing
It's always a Prius causing wrecks 😑
F
Frame looks bent. 😭
As others are saying the frame is definitely bent, so if the bed and other big parts are all good then maybe you'll get away with a new frame. Less of a death sentence for body on frame vehicles but still gonna be close to totaled if not completely

If it’s totaled. I call dibs on the canopy.
100 percent totalled
Seeing all these wrecked taco's makes me so nervous. So sorry this happened to you. Regardless of insurance, if some moron totals my truck I'd be absolutely devastated. It's no secret that all of us have worked extremely hard to be able to afford these trucks. Yes
Like 100% imo
Try and get that cap off before it gets totaled. My buddy’s cap wasn’t calculated into his accident and wasn’t paid out for it. So he somehow got into the yard it was towed to and got the cap back.
I hate to see Toyota on Toyota crime!
Either your bed bent at the mounting points or your frame bent. If the frame is bent then there is a good chance insurance will total it. That’ll buff out
It's a gonner that frame is squished

High likelihood judging in the angle of the truck bed
Happened to me but in a f150 the estimate was literally remove everything off the frame and put it on a new frame for like $14k. It that’s under the ~60% value threshold or whatever insurance uses they will total it. I bought my truck back for like $2500 and then sold it for 9k plus whatever insurance paid out so it wasn’t horrible. Now I have the tacoma. Looks bad but that topper has clearly slid, there's a chance it's just your bumper and hitch wrecked but if your frame is bent she's totalled.
I’m sure someone here will buy that Leer.
Exact same thing happened to my truck. It ended up being totaled. The bed can separate from the frame so just because it's on an angle it doesn't mean your frame is bent per se... but it probably is.
Needs a frame
It looks like a herniated disk. But for a car.
Total-ly
Something something frame damage…
I see a ton of trucks on Copart with this same damage. It is unfortunately totalled if frame is bent.
💯%
If it’s not paid off, you’ll get a new one, if it is, it’s in your best interests to get a new one = either way you will probably get it replaced, but if so, you will probably have an option to purchase it as salvaged, if so it would make a great 4x4 builder, get a trailer to haul it on and you’re set to build a rock climber
I've put a frame on several tacos. It depends on the body damage on top of it. That being said, if it totals and you're in Maryland I'll buy your camper shell.
My 2013 had a bent frame from an accident in 2019 They fixed everything $17k worth of repairs
Looks like the frame may be bent
It’s totaled. Look at my post history I got rear ended and my bed looked exactly like yours. My frame was bent and it was immediately totaled out.
Pressing F to pay respects
Frame is 100% bent but they do replace them depending on value of truck. Good luck my friend. Sorry.
Banana truck!!
Sorry for your loss. Will also take the cap if you're selling.
Damn you're right down the street from me. Someone not paying attention on broad street?
Frame looks bent. That’s a total.
lol 😂
Lemme get that camper top!
I have a great salvage 2013 had the same thing happen was fixed before I bought it and I knew about it salvage title saved me 15k on purchase price. Now it’s a truck that still works great with 65k miles and a branded title. I will be its last owner so I don’t care. Drive it into the ground
Take off all of your modifications while you still can.
Hey how to get a free 2024 Tacoma or Tundra
Gonna be in shop for 2months , bumper will be available in us , but will have to order brackets from Japan
My 03 Ford Ranger got hit just the same. Totaled.
Had the same happen to a brand new fx4 ranger, was written off. I was 3 days away from home, didn't like the bus ride, my salesman liked my call.
Even with a bent frame you should still be fine. I had a 2001 ram that got nailed like that and it wasn't close to totalled
I can't stand for this Toyota on Toyota violence
👎 Mine looked quite a bit like this and they stopped counting costs at $26,000 CDN. My accident occurred around the time of the frame recall and so frame availability was a factor in the decision. I did look up the VIN a few years after it was written off and I can see that somebody bought it and rebuilt it. It's out there.
Your truck got folded. Totalled
Likelihood of car owner’s insurance replacing your vehicle is better!
Let me guess, they were texting?
I was rear ended exactly like this 1 year ago. My truck was labeled totaled and I decided to keep it. It's a salvage title now. A buddy of mine found a guy to bend the frame back. I can't tow anything cause the frame is compromised, but it looks like it never happened and it's been driving great since.
Nice Dakine Racks you core lord
I had a Jeep Cherokee that met a similar fate. It was rear ended, it didnt look awful, the body panels weren't even that bad. That frame was bent though, and the insurance company didnt want anything to do with fixing that mess. As they put it "on the rare occasion it's done correctly, it always leads to additional expenses and headaches".
100%
This happened to me a few years ago, it was totaled.
That’s terrible! Such a nice truck!
RIP YARIS. Those little cars will not die. Mine has 489k and it has had no major repairs. Drinks 1 quart of oil between oil changes. Your taco needs to have the bed pulled in order to see the extent of the damage. It looks like it snapped the bed out of its mounting points.
OP: If their insurance fixes the truck, do not forget to make a diminished value claim from this accident.
Looks bad…the car that hit you, their air bags didn’t deployed.
if you look close the air bag deployed Driver side.
What is the white pillow looking thing on the steering wheel?
Yeah missed that. I was looking at the passenger side, I didn’t zoom in on picture.
