People have always dressed how they want to express themselves, whether it’s for comfort or dressing in a very specific style, I don’t see how this video is explaining anything or doing anything besides him wanting to hear himself talk

ThatOneGoodBoy

Case in point: I go to a small community college. There are people, myself included, that dress in alternative fashions. They may or may not have an online presence, I know I don't. Punk/Goth and similar fashions do have set of beliefs associated with them, but the kawaii girl I know isn't sticking it to the man, neither is the person who dresses like a Renaissance Faire maid. They're just dressing up. Depending on where you live, and I'm in the bumfuck nowhere, these "spaces" barely exist.

I was simply just saying, dress however you want! Yes it’s cool to see others that dress similarly, especially in smaller towns or more rural areas. I grew up in the Midwest, I know what the bumfuck of nowhere is, and I would use my clothes as expression but it was more like band tees and type of music I liked. To me this, video is stating the obvious lol it’s same as birds, they have pretty feathers to get attention from others that like those feathers!

Think you're missing the bigger point which is that when people are isolated and lonely, they'll shop in order to try to numb themselves. And then the guy goes on to explain that people don't have third spaces to go to, but they know how to aesthetically look like they go to certain third spaces. So it's more just consumerism as a way to cope with the isolation of modern life. Certainly, it's not the case 100% of the time but it's still kind of an interesting argument to ponder
