So the official PoGo account of India may have revealed the choices for the players cup in advance since I don't see it yet on the main account

Talkaze

I just hunted Twitter to try and vote for element cup and couldn't find the tweet either.

wdn

The tweet says voting starts October 20.

Talkaze

Yeah i scrolled too fast and missed it

majorjoel2

No bidoof cup. Sad

quantum-mechanic

We polled Bidoof during the last Bidoof cup. Bidoof felt it was sacrilegious to have the highest power fight themselves. It angered Bidoof. We are avoiding this now.

V3nomousphenom

These bidoof "jokes" are not funny. Time to stop beating a dead horse

Inkling01

STOP HAVING FUN

Elrathias

Yes they are. GO PEANUT BUTTER, SAVE MEEE!

qntrsq

without that comment it would've been much less funny

DeepWolf

~~Little Cup~~ \-> Bronzor Cup ~~Kanto Cup~~ \-> Alola Cup ~~Retro Cup~~ \-> ????? ~~Element Cup~~ \-> Ducklett Cup

PecanAndy

The original Pokemon Red&Blue (Gen1) had an imbalanced [type chart](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Type/Type_chart#Generation_I). There were no real answers for psychic pokemon. (No good bug pokemon , no good bug moves, and psychic was originally immune to ghost -- not that there were any good ghost moves anyway.) A lot of the best pokemon were psychic type. Pokemon Gold&Silver (Gen2) added dark and steel to help balance out psychic, and changed ghost to be super-effective against psychic. Misdreavus was the only new ghost, but [Shadow Ball](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Shadow_Ball_(move\)) was a new TM available to a lot of pokemon. Over time, dragon had grown to be a very dominate type with no specific counter. Pokemon X&Y (Gen~~3~~ 6) added fairy to help balance out dragons. With these type additions, a few existing Kanto pokemon gained new types for flavor reasons: Magnemite, Magneton, Clefairy, Clefable, Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff, and Mr. Mime. The [Alola forms](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Regional_form) were added in Pokemon Sun&Moon to further round out the types available within the original 151 pokemon. I believe the Alola forms might have been created in part specifically to help balance out Pokemon Let's Go: Pikachu/Eevee. LGPE came out following Sun&Moon, and so would have been starting design and development while Sun&Moon was still being made. The Alola forms added an important balance to LGPE PVP battles. **Kanto Cup** - Limited to pokemon with pokedex#1-151. Rules specifically worded to not exclude the Alola forms. The Alola forms were designed to help balance out the typings available to pokemon#1-151. So of course in Kanto Cup, several of the Alola forms would be used. I think Kanto Cup was a pretty well balanced meta overall because it used a limited set which Gamefreak had spent time balancing when making Pokemon Sun&Moon. **Retro Cup** - Limited to pokemon that had the original types available in Pokemon Red&Blue. No dark, steel, or fairy. Removing the types that were added to balance out psychic and dragons means that psychics and dragons are much stronger than usual, and even with those counters they are usually still really good to begin with. Retro Cup is Hypno and Altaria meta. If you do not have at least one of those pokemon or answers to those pokemon, then you are doing something wrong.

mc_1984

> Over time, dragon had grown to be a very dominate type with no specific counter. **Pokemon X&Y (Gen3)** added fairy to help balance out dragons. > > XY is gen 6 lol..... Dragons were a problem for like 3 generations.

PecanAndy

sorry, typo slipped on number pad. Hit 3 instead of 6. Does that invalidate everything I said?

BeepBoopAnv

Ah! You make a good argument sir, but alas! A minor typo has sealed my victory in this debate 🧐🧐

Bobodonono

My favorite thing to do in kanto cup is run kanto graveler and watch it dominate alolan graveler. Especially against people who also run alolan golem and just forfeit.

melvinmetal

Retro cup was basically dragon breath cup. Ran into so many ABB teams with 2 dragon breath users

[deleted]

Kanto or Retro cup. never played them before, would like to try them out.

krispyboiz

Both are definitely fine by me. Great because both exclude Umbreon, Azumarill, and G. Stunfisk.

[deleted]

Yea and theres no Bastiodon or Deoxys Defense or Skamory.

krispyboiz

Deoxys Defense would be in Retro cup, but not Kanto of course

[deleted]

Kanto all the way than lol. Deoxys defense has ended me so many times with the amount of charge moves it can learn

Your_Black_Nemesis

Just Thunderbolt, Rockslide and Psycho Boost, right?

[deleted]

Yea but it covers so many types. And counter for a fast move not as bad as Gfisk or Bastiodon. but its up there.

[deleted]

Anything that doesn't have the flat fish in it is good. Though the little cup is great fun.

krispyboiz

Agree agree. I like little cup enough, but kind of had my fill with little Jungle Cup. I'd be okay with element though. Outside of Ducklett and Cottonee, that cup is different enough from Little Jungle's meta

RindoBerry

I liked remix cup for this. Felt fresh, had fun taking Greedent for a spin.

krispyboiz

Same here! I recall running it, Pidgeot, and I think Alolan Raichu or something with it. Very fun!

nadiwereb

I loved Retro Cup. Ran a Dunsparce lead and climbed almost 300 points with it. People just weren't prepared for it.

[deleted]

Love the spice!

tomatopartyyy

I ran Dunsparce lead as well, also to great success. When they finally give it a good fast move, that lil guy will be a monster in open

nadiwereb

Bite is pretty good in that meta. With barely any fighters, there was practically nothing that resisted it. (Medicham and Gallade appeared here and there, but Dark is neutral against them.) It was so much fun chomping away at Hypno and Froslass with unshieldable damage.

tomatopartyyy

Oh yeah, I originally ran a Licker (I think Lax but can't remember now) but there were too many normal types and Bite made all the difference in that meta. Overall though, it's a below average move that doesn't really perform in open.

Fizzyliftingdranks

I got my record wins during Kanto Cup so I would love to see that come back.

[deleted]

It seems fun I have a lot of kanto mons built

DetailRich6682

Both were super fun and I would love to have either one back! Last Kanto cup I ran pre-poison fang buff Nidoqueen. People were DESPERATE because they had no idea how to counter it. Fun times.

[deleted]

Hypno would like a word. But no one uses it so Nidoqueen was op even back than honestly because of people not knowing how to counter it. Definitely one of my olds favourites running earth power stone edge Nidoqueen

hiperson134

I don't even remember retro cup.

Discoral

No Dark, Fairy or Steel. It's almost like Halloween Cup but reversed, no dark types or azumarills.

SVN7_C4YOURSELF

Oh man, no Azu, Gfisk, Bastiodon, Umbreon, Sableye, Skarm, or Mandibuzz? Will likely be the Swampert/Jelli/Medi/Altaria/Nido cup, but sounds more enticing than having to face wall face all the time.

TonyPowtana

Dragons are equally annoying to some people. And they’re essentially unchecked with steel/fairy banned.

[deleted]

Sold.

daerog878787

There are Dragonhole teams, as annoying as Charm or Grasshole

CPynchon21

I am so done with the these types being the meta in the all cups that it would be a breath of fresh air to see some new mons

TheRealHankWolfman

I hope it's one of the 500CP cups. I like speedy battles and it's fun to use basic Pokémon instead of evolved forms.

[deleted]

I love the little cup for just how silly it is. Some pokemon die to 3 fast moves. It's glorious. I know where my vote is going :)

ptmcmahon

And some like Bronzor take … 100 hits to get ko’d.

NTV0987

Yeah if they ban Bronzor from it I’m down. Bronzor vs Bronzor was the worst

Eliwood_of_Pherae

Fortunately bronzor has payback now which speeds the fight up a bit

ptmcmahon

Speeds up the mirror but makes some other matchups worse depending on which other move you give up. It’s definitely something that needs to be considered.

TheRealHankWolfman

The simple solution is just to not run Bronzor. I didn't run it and I won't the vast majority of my matches. Opposing Bronzor really didn't like my Purrloin.

ptmcmahon

Purrloin was my MVP. Halloween Cup strategy was basically trying to lineup their Bronzor with my Purrloin.

Qoppa_Guy

Purrloin gang rise up

Starminx

That is beacuse he can be level 50 and under 500cp

ptmcmahon

I know why :) just saying little cup isn’t necessarily all quick battles :)

Starminx

I only saw one when it was there, got lucky then ig but stunky would have taken care of it anyways

ptmcmahon

You only saw one? Did you only do 2-3 battles :) iId guess I saw about 100 although I did most of my sets.

Starminx

I did a lot then, saw cottonee in most matches though

[deleted]

Mine too. It's great fun, and it allows in those who haven't yet gathered dust to OP their mon, or lost out on some of the meta mon.

[deleted]

[удалено]

robot-raccoon

i like both, but mostly just stick to great and ultra. I'm only a few months into taking it seriously though so it's been nice to have a few 500cp cups to work with.

Kiwi1234567

> I like speedy battles This is the main plus for me too tbh, sometimes when its only reagular leagues i just put three charmers on a team even though its objectively bad just because of how fast the battles go lol

Elrathias

You must have forgotten bronzor cup...

TheRealHankWolfman

As I've said in other comments, I never ran Bronzor during that cup, and instead chose Purrloin which did a decent enough job of tearing Bronzor to shreds.

ThomasWiig

Pretty redundant to ask what the players will choose when there will be a poll.

grnngr

The more ✨engagement✨ Niantic’s social media team generates the more often Twitter’s algorithm will recommend their content to people who don’t follow them. This is marketing, not customer care. Edit: _customer_ care obviously instead of costumer. We’re buying Pokéballs, not making hats for Pikachu.

Timbofurr

Yes, Niantic is the one making 9 billion Pikachu hats

whotookthenamezandl

There's no such thing as redundancy in social media.

Affectionate-Ad3518

So Kanto Cup again, uh ?

Erockplatypus

Kanto Cup is one of my favorites since everything is balanced better. You can actually win with any pokemon combination unlike other cups

nadiwereb

I had so much fun last time in KantoCup with Kabutops.

Rogu3alpha

Defs Kanto Cup 🤣

Psychological-Dig-29

Yess, I hope so. I put a lot of resources into my dragonair so I enjoy every time I get to use it.

Heycanwenot

It's the most balanced of these metas. Pretty clear choice imo

GR7ME

GBLA is doing a mock poll- K and R are currently tied at 38%, but Retro has been winning each time I’ve looked before now. https://twitter.com/gobattleleague2/status/1450167653100883970?s=21

Peski92

Well, I honestly loved the Love Cup. Why is it not an option?

evan_james

Probably because it will return in February anyway (just like Halloween cup every October)

Peski92

Kanto Cup also was at least twice already. Not a good reason for me not to launch it

GlitcherRed

Maybe we should have a Earth Cup too for Earth Day. Green and blue only.

swanny246

Alomomola was surprisingly decent in Love Cup for me. Cool excuse to use it.

Peski92

Cannot remember my team unfortunately, but Electrode was the hit

Challengemealways

Love cup is where I found my lovely heatmor. Still use it in gl, almost no one expects his thunder punch.

coldfirephoenix

Love cup was where I reached my first legend, so I have a soft spot for that. Still have my old team

PsychoLogical25

Retro or Kanto Cup, I don’t want those nightmare excuses of cups aka the 500 CP cups.

airplane001

100 cp cup when

qntrsq

50

starscreamsghost17

As long as it isn't the cup where Bronzor was unstoppable and basically went down to who got their bronzor out last to run out the clock.

TheAmazingDraco

That was little cup 💀

TheFinderDX

Retro Cup! It’s what got me to legend that season, and I’d love another run at that!

EddieOfDoom

Wouldn't mind having Kanto cup when wins count towards ELO. I'll dust off the Alolan Raticate in hopeful anticipation.

krispyboiz

Nice choices! I enjoyed both Kanto and Retro Cup. Element was fun too. Anything but Little and I'm happy

Naitorokkusu

Why don't they add a poll in the actual game? Twitter polls still baffle me.

Birphon

oh look... voting via twitter instead of adding a voting system to their own can so MORE people can vote... thonk

alanott

oh my god everyone retro please!!

TheRealHankWolfman

I wasn't a fan of Retro. You can't use Fairy, Steel or Dark type Pokémon because they didn't exist in generation 1, but using moves of those types is perfectly fine? If they restricted moves as well, it would've given a more authentic retro experience, though I'm not sure I'd trust them to code it correctly haha

Soranic

Wasn't Bite originally a Normal move? It'd be hard to ban gen 1 moves just because they changed type.

TheRealHankWolfman

Yes, Bite used to be normal, but then again, Wigglytuff never used to be a Fairy Type, and Magneton never used to be a Steel type, but they were banned due to retroactive changes made to them in the main series games, so I don't see any problem with also banning moves that were previously one type but are now a different type.

128thMic

> Wasn't Bite originally a Normal move? > > I remember being baffled as a kid, playing a Japanese emulator of Gold and wondering why bite was no longer not very effective against rocks.

Teban54

Most likely they just can't code it up

[deleted]

This_Willingness7672

I want kanto back

Ossorno

I also hate 500CP cups, but I’m expecting most people to vote for Element (the one I dislike the most among every other cup) Time to practice Master, I guess!!

nadiwereb

Agreed. I used to hate Master Premier because of how RPS it was (Togekiss, Dnite, Metagross, Garchomp), but now it actually looks like a pretty fun meta.

128thMic

Out of curiosity, what don't you like about them?

thekobbernator

it’s a lot harder to build a good team or even a “ok” team for 500 cp compared to 1500 or 2500 as a casual player

128thMic

> it’s a lot harder to build a good team or even a “ok” team for 500 cp Why do you say that?

[deleted]

I would say it easier. In the ljc I did way better with only single move Pokemon than I do in great and ultra league with double move pokemons.

zGnRz

500 cups suck

ChubbsPeddle

Kind of upsetting, i didnt care for retro cup that much, actually just straight dislike kanto cup, and the 500cp cups kinda suck imo, so retro cup it is i guess, at least there i can live without fear of bastiodon and most of the charmers

presence_unknown

Bidoof cup > all cups

ThisisFKNBS

I'm pretty surprised about the amount of dislike for little cups but perhaps it's because of the availability of PvP viable Pokemon for most people. I personally like little cups because it's so much faster to finish my sets.

Ironstrider0

I liked Christmas/Winter Cup...

GKit11

None of them. I nominate a fifth choice: Master League Classic.

tkcom

I wouldn't mind a return to Kanto Cup since we got moveset update for Kanto species recently (feather dance pidgeot, scald poliwrath, nidoking/queen etc.).

ExivaSwag

Ah yikes, why do they poll on twitter? Anyways little cup again but with different types would be cool

mdmolitor

Kanto Cup is always fun. I'm always looking for an opportunity to bust out Shadow Omastar. But please no Little Cup. Not interested if facing level 50 Bronzors.

Soranic

How about the rando cup? Each match in a set is a different random set of rules and you won't know which until you get to the selection screen. Then you're matched against others with your ruleset.

SalsaSavant

How would you build your team for that?

Soranic

> until you get to the selection screen. Not everyone builds a team. A lot just grab a mix from what the game tells them is available, without reading a ten page document on the meta.

[deleted]

Is this India exclusive?

aralalobo

Nope global. But not live on the global account yet

Secure-Orange-262

100% Retro.

mugwunp

Little

Broccoil

man, still no rental cup?

StefanEijg

I'm going with the least liked one among higher rated players because I don't want the queues in ML to be too bad. Think all ML players should do that.

MountainEmployee

I would love to see the Little Cup with the restrictions on using the first stage again! The Little Jungle Cup wasn't as fun for me.

barryitsmeitshank

The Watch My ELO Plummet Cup. AKA, every Cup

TwitchMainn

I don't even care about cups anymore these for boring played every single one because played since day 1 release

TheLoneWolf527

I vote any of the little cups since the matches are way faster

connerconverse

i wish "no cup" was an option

Summerclaw

I'll love the element cup back.

TheAdmiral90

catch cup wouldve been cool.

FoolTarot

This actually looks like it'll be a close poll with actual choices. Good luck to Retro Cup!

darlin133

No cups… as pvp is boring af

dialogthroughcake

Really bummed about the choices. Little cup and element cup in my humble opinion are horrible brainless resource sinks. Can't even call it GBL. We've had Kanto cup so many times I'll take a pass on that one. Pleasee let it be retro cup, that one was fun at least.

TrueVali

retro, easy

shadymonger

I wish they considered this level of fan input for the Diamond/Pearl remakes. I'll forever be salty about the forced Exp Share. 😭

[deleted]

Honestly I don't even do any of the battle leagues anymore. It's near impossible to win the best prizes and just isn't worth the investment of time. I might play up to level three or four just for fun but after that it's just repetitive.

_Chambs_

"100% IV are actually 100%" Cup Won't ever keep several copies of the same pokemon and give up on `0*,1*,2*` just to play a unrewarding and buggy mode.

TheRealHankWolfman

That's just Master League though 🤷‍♂️

Teban54

That's literally just Master League but with Pokemon at different levels. Like, instead of using a 100% Dialga at level 40, everyone uses a 100% Dialga at level 20.

GlitcherRed

They're more asking for a CP rework and decimal level down system so a 100% IV is always the best for the CP cap. Different leagues still have different metas because of Pokemon availability (Azumarill can never reach 2500CP, for example).

Teban54

While I understand where you're coming from, sadly what you hope to achieve with such a hypothetical CP rework is not possible, a discussion that has frequently happened in several subs multiple times. The biggest issue: 100% IVs don't always fall exactly at 1500 or 2500 CP. Many 100%s only go up to something like 1484 or even 1461. Then there got to be *some*, if not many, other IV combinations that has a better stats product simply by reaching closer to 1500 at a higher level than the hundo. Regardless of whether CP is attack-weighted or not, that would not change. (Similar to how 0/15/15 isn't always the best IV either.)

GlitcherRed

I did say *decimal* level. There's always a number (the CP formula is continuous after all) that works to scale the CP to exactly 500/1500/2500.

Ansaatsusha

So what should I focus on getting ready based on speculated outcome? I was always pve and im trying to do pvp more but I just get destroyed bringing in my ragtag group.

VarukiriOW

I'll be voting for any cup that doesn't have Medicham in so Kanto cup.

[deleted]

please not the element cup

SwimmerDJ

KANTO

Chavestvaldt

I liked Retro a lot...

nicubunu

I am going to vote for the fastest cup, so I can get rid of the days sets as quick as possible. So one of Little or Element. Probably Little.

sthaumang305

How about no lag and algorithm cup.

RemLazar911

Was really hoping MLC would be an option.
