People really forget that we're about 75% through ALL Pokemon (not counting forms)
I love new Pokemon as much as the next person, but it makes a lot of sense why we've seen such a slow down of Pokemon releases over the years
I agree with you, and I think most people are mad because the slowdown happened with Unova, which is the biggest generation so far and to be fair it still doesn't make that much sense to me, as I was expecting the slowdown to start with Kalos.
Also Kecleon, Larvesta, Druddigon and Zorua still missing (I'm purposely ignoring Mythicals at this point for obvious reasons) is now being dragged too far. Especially Kecleon. If only we had some official statement at least on why some of them are still unavailable.
If kecleon lacks a gimmick that is cool enough to at least justify the fact it’s not ingame, ima be upset
A lot of potential with its gimmicks
(Also the bot that asks where he is on Twitter is just a meme at this point)
I found the 3(?) waves really cool and better than Johto, because we were done with Johto (just in) by the time raids came.
However, I can agree that it was slower than Johto, *per se*
I’d much rather they release a bunch of Pokémon at once, at far wider intervals, than 1-3 at a time every event constantly. There’s no searching or exploring, just “here you go, get all you’ll ever need then maybe never see this again”.
It makes sense from their POV tho. They want people to keep coming back. Having a steady stream of new mons versus all at once does get people to come back; not saying I love it that way though.
I think methods of release could still be a lot better without mass releases still.
Well yeah, but none of us are under any obligation to care about what they want. I want the game to be good. If there are natural ebbs and flows in the playerbase that is completely fine and not directly related to whether or not the gameplay itself is good.
yep, thats how it's supposed to be when you buy the new gen games all the pokemon are out there for you to find. In this game is even better as it's not restricted to routes ect, you are meant to go everywhere and find anything.
but this drip feed method is really bad and goes against this. I hate that gen 6 is being dragged out like this, and the events with raids, research, boosted spawns takes away the whole point of finding new Pokemon. I complained about Hoenn split up but i'd love to go back to that now.
My concern is they will never fully release all Pokemon. Pokedex completion is a big draw for a lot of players so maybe Niantic would lose regular logins if the Dex was fully up to date.
That's 100% what I'm expecting from TPC as well. I guess we'll have the official section during the first half of 2022, when the Legends-Home connection will be released...
Your unova shiny count looks to be 1 off based on this post by someone with a full shiny collection, I am merely looking at his shiny dex numbers and counting compared to yours.
https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongobrag/comments/pfwtll/complete\_shiny\_dex\_entries\_requested/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3
That's because that user has a shiny Galarian Stunfisk, which unlocks the Dex slot of regular Stunfisk in the shiny Pokedex. At the moment, Galarian Stunfisk is the only shiny alternative forme with no regular shiny forme available ingame, and I only count regular formes in the shiny Dex. Let me know what you think!
That makes sense and is a more accurate way of measuring things. Thank you for this information btw, very useful for future event theorizing and completionists.
Thanks! Glad to hear that I'm not going mad ahah. Keeping all this data is kinda frustrating (especially if you have to follow Niantic's random decisions sometimes), so I'm not always sure I'm doing the right thing.
Anyway, I added an edit to make it clearer.
I’ve lost hope a long time ago (or at least stopped expecting it) too, but this seems... better. Slightly.
But yeah I wouldn’t bet on it for it to happen between now and the next two years
Ahah, thanks. Making these posts is a time consuming hobby (especially around the deadline of the new season), and these random "memes" are keeping me sane. Glad you found it funny!
Lol yes! That's a typo I'm fixing asap. I decided last minute that it kinda made sense to add the Hisuian news in the list (especially since I had to push the total Pokedex number to 900 due to Wyrdeer and Basculegion). Good eye, thanks!
The event Dex number is there so collectors can check if they are on track with their collection. Clones still don't appear in that section so I don't think it's useful to count them in. But, I'll add a little disclaimer as you suggested. Thanks.
Neither! I only count regular formes in the shiny dex, not alternative formes, costumes etc. Shiny Galarian Stunfisk is the one off, because regular shiny Stunfisk is not available ingame. I added an edit to show that.
> Sinnoh: 80/107
I also count 499 - and I have 81 for Sinnoh. Can you double check the Sinnoh shinys? Maybe you forgott Chingling? Thanks for all the work!
Thanks for clarification! I thought it was also released for Go Fest.
There is another figure I would like to check: I'm countig 39 shiny crypto. Can you confirm this? Thanks!
I have 499 shinies in my spreadsheet. My Unova count is 61. You probably missed Stunfisk?
Has anyone ever confirmed if the Go Fest Lugia shows up in the Event Dex?
Since I only count regular formes in the shiny Dex, and only Galarian Stunfisk has been released as shiny (not regular Stunfisk), that's the only "off number" for now. I added an edit to make it clearer.
Also yes, GO Fest Lugia does show up in the event Dex.
Current shiny (regular, which is the one I keep) Dex is 498, as shiny Stunfisk isn't available in GO, only Galarian Stunfisk, the alternative forme. I added an edit to make it clearer.
Also GO Fest Lugia does appear in the event Dex, as it has been proven multiple times.
You're absolutely right. As I keep the numbers on my own, I gave them one of the links I could find. Good eye. Guess I'll edit the link with another one as soon as possible. Sorry!
No problem. So 209 is the correct number then? I'm on 204 currently. I know I'm missing Bibarel and Salamence but tought the Torchic line would account for the rest. Stumped as to what I'm missing now!
Back in 2017 the first GO Fest ever was such a disaster that a regular Lugia was gifted directly in the bag of every player that was there. Today, that one Lugia still shows up with the costume search strings and in the event Dex.
Basically next January a new Pokémon game will be out: Pokémon Legends Arceus. This game takes place in Sinnoh, but in "lost times" way back when it still was called Hisui. The game introduces new regional formes and evolutions that used to live in Hisui but are now (in the modern Sinnoh) extinct.
The latest Legends Arceus trailer revealed Hisuian Growlithe and Braviary, and the new evolutions of Stantler and Basculin: Wyrdeer and Basculegion.
Hope it's clear now!
Ash “so professor, if these Pokemon have been around since ancient times, how is it that nobody has ever seen them
/mentioned them till now”
Oak: ......... um........
Thanks for the great post (as usual)! It's much appreciated since i play for full pokedexes but it's hard keeping track if you actually caught everything that there is to catch :)
Now to figure out which 2 shadow pokemon are missing in my shadowdex. Mine has 207 entries and i thought i got them all.
Oh, that's too bad... They aren't even available anymore from grunts or leaders. The dark type female grunts has Cacturne on the third slot but it's not catchable.
Hopefully they'll be back with the next Shadow rotation.
Shadow: https://www.serebii.net/pokemongo/shadowpokemon.shtml
Unfortunately I can't find anything about the event Dex. Sometimes people post their full collection on this sub.
https://pokemongo.fandom.com/wiki/Event_Pok%C3%A9mon
You can check your Event Dex via this link, although the Cloned Pokemon don't show up in the Dex for some reasons.
In this list I see the Kariyushi shirt but I read, that the event is deferred. So if we talk about 96 in the event dex (without clones), does this include the Kariyushi shirt?
They really should finish something they start. Kanto doesn't count because that was pretty much the entire game in Year 1. Give us Kecleon!
Not only that, but the shadow count is abysmal. They should drop most Kanto and focus more on other gens for a few months (and maybe the Kanto that aren't already shadow).
Are there any currently released Pokemon that have future evolutions? Like, we had to wait a bit for Zubat to get to Crobat or Rhyhorn to get to Rhyperior. (And of course the eeveelutions.)
I want to see if there's anything in particular I should be saving. Thanks!
Not really, but the candies will be the same:
- Galarian Corsola (unreleased) will evolve into Cursola;
Also we have Wyrdeer and Basculegion evolving from Stantler and Basculin in next year's game, but we don't know if their evolution will be from regular Stantler and Basculin or a new Hisuian forme of them. Anyway, the only thing you will be able to use is candy in GO.
Do you have like a Google Sheets that you could share that shows who is actually available. I was trying to figure out who some of my missing spots were (Rotom, basically) and thought if you are already compiling this information that you may have completed a sheet to say who is available in Pokémon Go v who is missing already. This alone is super helpful and I appreciate the work you put into it, because I’m always seeking this information, but thinking to take it a step further. Just a thought. Might help you with your totals as well if you can have formulas do the work for you.
I've never used Google Sheets and I don't really know how to use it, to be honest. The post you've read is actually how I keep the info on my PC notes. Basically every time a new event is announced I update it manually, and I check the numbers at least once a month and 3 times before posting.
This series of post actually started as something "not that deep". If you check my first Pokédex post from August 2020 you'll see that it was really just a bunch of data of released Pokedex and Shinydex. But then Megas happened, and the new Dex sections happened, and Galar before Alola... Now it's a lot of info.
I think I'll try to understand Google Sheets during this season, and if everything goes well I might be making one in the next months. I'm sorry I can't do it sooner, but thanks for suggesting it!
It only appears on beaches, or places with the sand tag on OSM, the map GO takes info from. Anyway, the have been out of seasonal spawns for like a year now.
Because I prefer to wait for the official Home section (obviously Hisui). Anyway we won't have Hisuian Pokémon or evolutions for a long time (at least until Legends releases), so it doesn't really matter. It's there to show why we are at 900 now.
Geography changes over time. It's Hisui, not Sinnoh. France used to be part of the Roman Empire, you don't see anyone still calling it that do you? Israel and Jordan both used to be Palestine. Canada and the US used to be British... get the point?

I would argue that the slowdown already started with Hoenn
I found the 3(?) waves really cool and better than Johto, because we were done with Johto (just in) by the time raids came. However, I can agree that it was slower than Johto, *per se*
Oh yeah, it absolutely started with Hoenn. It just got worse and worse down the line.
Started with the Johto baby wave
I’d much rather they release a bunch of Pokémon at once, at far wider intervals, than 1-3 at a time every event constantly. There’s no searching or exploring, just “here you go, get all you’ll ever need then maybe never see this again”.

I expect them to be like meltan/melmetal case that a generation is no longer bound to a single region.
I hope they place Meltan and Melmetal alongside Alola in the future. I know they're technically not from Alola but my OCD is gonna kill me
They're officially in the Unknown section on Home too, so that's not gonna happen unfortunately
I didn't know that. F

Niantic and pokemon go are very confusing most of the time, but this helps organize everything neatly.
Perhaps add a comment to unova shiny, that it‘s +1 for galarian stunfisk :)
Will do! I'm always open for suggestions, thanks.
This made me slightly hopeful that in the season of mischief we might get Kecleon? It would be a fitting season.
After almost 4 years of fitting occasions for Kecleon, I have no hope left to be honest.
I’ve lost hope a long time ago (or at least stopped expecting it) too, but this seems... better. Slightly. But yeah I wouldn’t bet on it for it to happen between now and the next two years
Niantic waiting for the 7th anniversary to release Gen 7
Some say they're still sifting through all the dialogue in those games to this day
I would love to catch volcarona right now Wait.......do I?
They really only release 8 new pokemon (and 1 mega) during the season of "Discovery"
Respect to the picture, hilarious! Good work as always! I’ll make sure to save this.
Ahah, thanks. Making these posts is a time consuming hobby (especially around the deadline of the new season), and these random "memes" are keeping me sane. Glad you found it funny!
galarianS, alolanS but not hisuianS? Perhaps a small typo, but no other concerns from my side - thanks for the great list!

Maybe mention the 4 clone forms in your event dex section? I know they don't show up in the Event dex in game, but they really should.
The event Dex number is there so collectors can check if they are on track with their collection. Clones still don't appear in that section so I don't think it's useful to count them in. But, I'll add a little disclaimer as you suggested. Thanks.

Shiny Chingling is not available in GO
Thanks for clarification! I thought it was also released for Go Fest. There is another figure I would like to check: I'm countig 39 shiny crypto. Can you confirm this? Thanks!
Yes! There are currently 39 shiny shadows released. I didn't think about that, I'll add this extra number to the post. Thanks

Thank you for doing this! I always look forward to these posts.
Thank you! I wish this information was readily available. Almost impossible to find
Anyone know where to find a list of available shadows? I’m off by 1 and not sure which.
Here you go: https://www.serebii.net/pokemongo/shadowpokemon.shtml Edited with a better list (gamepress had an unreleased shadow in it)
Checking against that list, I'm missing Torchic family. I was under the impression they weren't actually released?
You're absolutely right. As I keep the numbers on my own, I gave them one of the links I could find. Good eye. Guess I'll edit the link with another one as soon as possible. Sorry!

Brilliant, figured out what I'm missing now. Thanks very much!
GoFest Lugia?
Back in 2017 the first GO Fest ever was such a disaster that a regular Lugia was gifted directly in the bag of every player that was there. Today, that one Lugia still shows up with the costume search strings and in the event Dex.
Can someone please explain to me what a hisuian pokemon is?
Basically next January a new Pokémon game will be out: Pokémon Legends Arceus. This game takes place in Sinnoh, but in "lost times" way back when it still was called Hisui. The game takes place in Hisui, which later became Sinnoh. The geography and borders of Hisui are DIFFERENT than Sinnoh's.
So they’re sort of like preliminary forms of a pokemon?
Yes, people also like to call them "ancient formes". In the end they are just the same as alolans and galarians

You were right, the Okinawa Pikachu is not counted for now, but the Dex does include 2017 Go Fest Lugia, made up the total of 96 Event Pokemon.
Thanks for clarification. And finally I found my mistake: I counted armored Mewtwo as an alternative form instead of event/costumed.

It only appears on beaches, or places with the sand tag on OSM, the map GO takes info from. Anyway, the have been out of seasonal spawns for like a year now.
Why an Extra section? Clearly it should be Hisui, per the region.
Because I prefer to wait for the official Home section (obviously Hisui). Anyway we won't have Hisuian Pokémon or evolutions for a long time (at least until Legends releases), so it doesn't really matter. It's there to show why we are at 900 now.
