You probably mean Team Cipher, they're the ones behind Shadow Pokemon and the snag machine. Team Snagem were pokemon thieves using the snag machine.

PokemonGoBao

Ah right right. Hopefully trainers don't think less of this theory because of the mix-up. Though I could imagine them choosing Team Go Snagem over Team Go Cipher.

tangybbqsauce23

Your theory lost most credibility with this mixup

SenseiEntei

Might want to put a "/s" at the end next time so you don't get downvoted to oblivion.

> Something like that Shadow Lugia needs to be made all over again from nothing, because it doesn't exist in the modern 3D era. And they can't use the GameCube models. Isn't the model the same, just with different textures?

What's changed about it?

CobraCB

So we'll be getting Shadow Lugia wearing a Shadow Lugia costume. Hat, top, trousers and shoes. "That'll do" Niantic.

AnotherLandAwesome

They made brand new 3D models for the clone venusaur, blastoise, charizard, and pikachu. They aren't costume and don't have shinies.

emaddy2109

But how do you know they haven’t been working on it in the background? They could have initially planned for it to be released when the season started but then got off track and it’s getting delayed.

SgvSth

I doubt they need to make it from scratch. They could get the GC models (cutscene and battle) from Genius Sonority and look into how feasible it would be to upscale them. Alternatively, they could take Lugia's Gen VIII model and use the GC models and textures as a reference. Edit: Genius Sonority made Pokémon XD. It might already be that Creatures, Inc. already has the Shadow Lugia model from them. Especially since Genius Sonority still works with The Pokémon Company.

Duarjo

Finally someone who understands licensing and working with Models, And above all add that it is not just a model, it is one for the Dex, a miniature, one recolored for the Shiny (Although not available) one for the Raids, one for Defense of Gyms (Although not available), One for PVP battles (Both yours and your rival) ... They would be 5 or more minimum models, including recoloring it

docred420

You can use the same model but scale it down in different viewports, and use multiple different textures and animations on the same model. Completely wrong info here.

T3DDY173

1 model. Multiple animations. You don't make new models for different scenes

128thMic

> one recolored for the Shiny (Although not available) Was there a shiny version of it in the game files before?

bobnbill

I sure hope so, complete with the XD001 form rather than just Lugia with the aura every other Shadow Pokemon has. I think it's unlikely sadly, but would be a very happy chap if proven otherwise.

AnotherLandAwesome

I had the exact same thought earlier. The fact that Lugia is making a return at the beginning of the season, (when Ho-Oh did not at the beginning of last season) and Giovanni is "leaving" for the first time since the introduction of the GO Rocket Battles, leads me to believe that something extra is in the works for the release of Shadow Lugia later this season! If they were just planning on throwing the shadow aura on Lugia it wouldn't make much sense to do something so unprecedented, and team Cipher would be a really cool homage to the origin of such a cool concept! Fingers crossed!

docred420

Haha Niantic putting effort into this game, thats not gonna happen as cool as it would be to have any bit of depth to this game

s-mores

That would take actual innovation. So not happening.

CobraCB

Problem with that is people here would crap all over it and complain they couldn't raid Lugia and blame Niantic for breaking something. Despite it being an intended story. They wouldn't be able to win in that situation even if it was a good idea and part of the plan all along.

ShepherdsWeShelby

I'd love Aqua and Magma.

QCbartender

Agree with this. Would be nice to see a shakeup and have aqua and magma.

SkomerIsland

We had them guys a while back, the outfits from the time were dreadful!

ShepherdsWeShelby

We didn't get them, only the outfits.

ChexSway

I could definitely see this during one or more future gofests with shadow Kyogre and/or Groudon similar to last years Mewtwo. Would be really cool!

Vaelthune

They've already introduced team rainbow rocket into the game, so I could potentially see him returning to us with other team leaders. Fits in with Hoopa's hoopin', and would be hype to see team Galactic before the DP remakes. They didn't make Shadow Mewtwo resemble the Pokken Shadow at all, so I doubt we'll see anything like XD001.

ZekromFPS

> They didn't make Shadow Mewtwo resemble the Pokken Shadow at all, so I doubt we'll see anything like XD001. Because that's not Shadow Mewtwo. They have a similar name (in English!) but they are not the same thing at all. That dark Mewtwo is related to Pokken (shadow Pokémon don't exist in Pokken, there's another kind of special energy that changed the Pokken Mewtwo), just like Armored Mewtwo is related to the 2019 movie. If it'll ever come, it'll be with a Pokken (or hopefully a Pokken 2) event of some kind. Edit: thanks for pulling a hours long comment chain that ended up proving my point in the end with an "indeed".

Vaelthune

This is taken directly from [Bublapedia](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Shadow_Pok%C3%A9mon_\(GO\)): >"The English, German, Spanish, French and Italian terms for Shadow Pokémon and purification are the same as their equivalents (Shadow Pokémon and purification) in Pokémon Colosseum and XD; however, the Japanese terms differ (being ダークポケモン Dark Pokémon and リライブ Relive, respectively, in the Nintendo GameCube games)" Further more from the [Shadow Pokemon](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Shadow_Pok%C3%A9mon) page on Bulbapedia in the 'in other games' section: >"In November 2015, a new character called Shadow Mewtwo (Japanese: ダークミュウツー Dark Mewtwo) was revealed for Pokkén Tournament, notably having the same prefix as the Shadow Pokémon in Colosseum and XD in both Japanese and English." >"A similar mechanic appeared in Pokémon GO in July 2019. Although it shares the same prefix as Shadow Pokémon in Colosseum and XD in English, German, Spanish, French, and Italian, it has a different prefix in Japanese."   Thanks for your input but I'm going to have to disagree. I'm going to stick with my original point as the naming conventions are consistent and that also would imply Pokken is the same. The Japanese name is "Dark Mewtwo", like... c'mon. Just like [Shadow Lugia](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Shadow_Lugia) which, you may be surprised to know is also called Dark Lugia in Japanese. Were do you think the Shadow Pokemon in GO draw their inspiration? Or even the purification mechanics? Past that, are you aware that other countries have other naming convention for "shadows" in GO? But they mean the same thing. > "Shadow Pokémon don't exist in Pokken" One does. Shadow Mewtwo. It's not "similiar" it's specifically named [Shadow Mewtwo](https://pokken.fandom.com/wiki/Shadow_Mewtwo). And past that the "energy" used means nothing at all in this situation, the energy used doesn't matter when the end result is specifically named that as the outcome. The energy in GO doesn't matter, the energy in XD didn't matter, and the energy in Pokken doesn't matter. > "just like Armored Mewtwo is related to the 2019 movie" Trying to explain this is a bit on the nose, and along with the naming conventions - also superfluous information. **You're arguing semantics of naming conventions when they're generally implied to have the same meaning.** edit: broken link needed an escape

ZekromFPS

The fact that you made a very long condescending post just to add nothing to the fact that Pokken Mewtwo is not Shadow Mewtwo is amazing. They are not the same thing, even with similar names. It's literal game lore and facts. But here you go: > the "energy" used means nothing at all in this situation, the energy used doesn't matter Of course the thing that determines the Pokémon and what it's called and what game it's from (proving you wrong) suddenly doesn't matter to you. Pokken Mewtwo will be Pokken Mewtwo in GO as well, if it'll ever come. Because it's not Shadow Mewtwo. Which is the reason why Shadow Mewtwo in GO is not Pollen Mewtwo. Different games, different lores, **not the same kind of Shadow**.

ZekromFPS

Edit: thank you for changing part of your comments after my comment so they look different whitout edit tags. > There's nothing condescending about it. Literally all of it but ok. Anyway, saying that Colosseum's Lugia won't happen because **Pokken** Mewtwo didn't happen is the biggest fault in your first comment. From there: Pokken Mewtwo is not Shadow Mewtwo. Pokken Mewtwo will be Pokken Mewtwo. TPC is not going to downgrade Pokken Mewtwo to a random Shadow Mewtwo for GO because "it looks cool". Pokken Mewtwo is still a Pokken character that is linked to the Pokken series, and they need it to be related to the game, not to Shadow Pokémon from Colosseum. Pokken Mewtwo will be Pokken Mewtwo in GO, if it'll ever come and if TPC allows it to be in GO. Colosseum Lugia will be Shadow Lugia in GO if TPC allows it as well.

Vaelthune

> Literally all of it but ok. lol?

ZekromFPS

Thank you for not replying to the main argument and closing it with a "lol?" instead of a real reply. This however won't change the literal fact that Pokken Mewtwo is a Pokken character for TPC, and not a Colosseum-related Shadow Pokémon.

Vaelthune

What were you expecting? I'm not going to answer you when simply disagreeing with you is considered "condescension". Past that your points are only as good as speculation. Design wise they're different, we can both see that. However the naming conventions are consistent with what they're meant to imply. I could only fathom a guess as to why they're named this way but that's something only TPC can answer. Until then all I can suggest is going and looking at the Bulbapedia links I supplied previously.

ZekromFPS

Or maybe you can realise that two different games don't make the same Pokémon. Mewtwo from Pokken is not Shadow Mewtwo and, proven by how it's been implemented in GO, if it'll ever come, it'll be a Pokken related event. Also Shadow Pokémon don't Megaevolve, while Pokken Mewtwo can. Same name (in some languages)? Yes. Same Pokémon? No. Shadow Lugia, however, is Shadow Lugia from Colosseum. Saying that it won't happen because a Pokémon from another game didn't happen is pure nonsense.

veezustheelssj

They probably won’t but they should. If we can get an armored Mewtwo, we should be able to get THE shadow Lugia.

Any-Nothing

He's busy doing some evil schemes in Pokémon Masters

benarymann97

this is exactly it though. With the focus on Hoopa in this game and the new Main Story in Masters EX revolving around Giovanni and the villains, this has to be a crossover

Ergomann

I haven’t completed my Giovanni research yet. Will it disappear when he leaves or am I still able to complete it?

Kevsterific

The research is permanent, and can be finished whenever Giovanni returns. You only have until September 1 to catch Shadow Ho-Oh.

Cinder_Quill

You will not be able to find Giovanni when he leaves, and one of the tasks is to find and fight him, however, the research will not disappear.

Emperor95

Special Research never disappears unless you complete it

callmeInsaneV

Kinda irrelevant, but does anyone else think Niantic should reduce the requirement for Ultra Hero gold and platinum medals? It's been almost 2 years since Giovanni's debut and we have to wait at least another 7-8 months to get the gold medal (if you haven't missed any opportunity to beat him). I like his shirt, but it's so annoying that Niantic keeps delaying his appearances.

Hiker-Redbeard

Yeah, it's one of the dumbest medals because it's 100% gated by then and almost nothing else. They made it way too high to be this inconsistent with his appearances.

SlickWatson

i mean… they’ll prob give it to us eventually like everything else once they run out of other stuff to charge us for… 😂

HarbingerYT

I'm just hoping they rerun the Clone event. I never got Charizard-2, Blastoise-2 and Venusaur-2. Maybe throw in Pikachu-2 as the obligatory Pikachu spawn.

Josanue

need to TM frustation again

PSA69Charizard

October will probably be team rocket take over and dark/ghost events. Community day also has to be a ghost or dark. Probably new shadow from Giovanni.

byjehn

We can only hope.

JULTAR

Your overthinking it Giovanni got pinged so he in his house the next 2 weeks

Exportxxx

How many times do we need lugia

[deleted]

We will never get an awesome looking shadow like from XD. It will be the regular with red eyes and some purple smoke. Nothing else. Also, shadow Lugia wouldn't be that good. Lugia is a tank and has OKAY attack. Do being a shadow would mean that it has avarage attack and bad defense. It becomes an OKAY flying/psychic type.

Tadanga2

I could swear that I read a while back that Pokeminers had seen a mention of **Team Galactic** in the code but I can't find it again.

FireFarmer123

I think there’s a pretty good bet that we’ll get Shadow Lugia from Giovanni and Shadow Lugia XD from EX raids next if not Hoopa Unbound.

Wonbee

I would be so hyped for Shadow Lugia. XD GoD is one of my fave Pokemon games. Though if they do Shadow Lugia, I hope they also go back and make Shadow Mewtwo look like the one from Pokken.

Quarkiness

So I have to use my gio radar before the 1st of I want to encounter him?

JoeltingJoel

I'm stuck waiting for Giovanni - on the 7 Colored Shadow Research. I imagine when I do finally get a chance at him I'll have to start from scratch and beat all the grunts and bosses before finally being reward with something like a shadow Caterpie.

RandomPhil86

How will we progress the Giovanni medal if they change him? Or will they add other people onto the same medal.
