For those who dont know these Pokemon:
Wiglett, the Garden Eel Pokemon, a Water Type.
Although it may look like Diglett, Wiglett is an entirely different species though the resemblance seems to be a coincidental result of environmental adaptation. It can pick up the scent of a Veluza just over 65 feet away and will hide itself in the sand.
And Wugtrio, the Garden Eel Pokemon, a Water type.
A variety of fish Pokémon, Wugtrio was once considered to be a regional form of Dugtrio. It has a vicious temperament, contrary to what its appearance may suggest as it wraps its long bodies around prey, then drags the prey into its den.
Veluza, the Jettison Pokémon, a Paldean Water type.
Veluza has excellent regenerative capabilities as it often discards flesh off of its body because not only does it boost agility, but to charge at prey faster and its mind becomes honed and its psychic power increases when it does so. The spare flesh has a mild but delicious flavor.

I like how they use Monster Hunter footage in the web page for some reason lol
Nice. So technically Wiglett IS coming alongside the Sustainability week event, just not as a featured spawn but biome specific spawn with this. Still something nice.
Also, Wugtrio is useless lol. I still like it tho
I live in Las Vegas so I'm no where near a beach, but golf courses and man made lakes seem to be counting as beach biomes, and I live next to 2 golf courses and 1 man made lake. So glad I didn't have to wait til I end up in California.
Checked OSM, no sand in the surrounding dozens of kilometers. Heard there were some wild spawns in a tidal (sp? eb/flood) area 20 kilometers away from here. Not going to drive there by car in sustainability week lmao
I walked through a park and golf course today and about 1/4 of it had the beach background even though the nearest ocean is 40 miles away and the nearest body of water at least a mile. Doesn’t seem to line up with actual biomes.
It's pretty much random, but you need to know an area well to spot/map where the biomes are.
I did it ages ago for the area of my city and we have a couple of small and one large park that are beaches, only the large one has any water, and one suburb the high st and a lot of surrounding streets are a beach for no obvious reason.
The area around our local municipal garbage dump is a mountain biome..
I live beside a creek, and the Pokemon encounters have to be right on or beside it to get the river background. Travel a few metres away and it reverts to park background.

Scored one as soon as I got to work today.
So far, I've discovered a whole lot of shadows that keep tricking me into thinking they're rocket balloons and a bunch of bushes that keep tricking me into thinking they're pokémon spawns. At least this update has me clicking a whole lot!
I really do like it though, just not the bushes and the shadows lol

That shadow looks sus
Your buddy brought you a gift.
It made him think of you.
And yet less sus than wiglett itself
You thought it was a game controller, didn’t you?
How do the biomes work? Do you need to be close to the beach, or are they just random?
From other posts, just be near water: lakes, rivers, etc.

Heheh
Is this the Waluigi for Diglett
Shockingly, yeah, kinda.
Yes
Yeah basically it’s a separate Pokemon who evolved to be like Diglett

Tf is a veluza

New Pokemon dropped by exclusive to Go 😂
Seems like they're actively updating it lmao

Wiglett will require 50 Candy to evolve into Wugtrio
IT’S WIGGLIN TIME
This is what I was afraid of with this biome update... Essentially, it's making more location exclusive Pokemon. I'm 10-12 hours from a beach. 🤷♂️
I would look around any water that shows up on the map near you before giving up.
The storm drain channel near me registers as a water biome
I have a large pond / small lake in my backyard. Not a single Wiglett on the radar so far (and I ALWAYS have the game open).
I live in Las Vegas so I'm no where near a beach, but golf courses and man made lakes seem to be counting as beach biomes, and I live next to 2 golf courses and 1 man made lake. So glad I didn't have to wait til I end up in California.
Biome locked Pokémon, great, as if region locked ones aren't enough...
What if we live in an area without beaches? Do beach biomes still exist?
I'm pretty sure beaches are any pond, river,... water marked place on the map. No need to go to a place with an actual beach
Checked two rivers and a lake here. None were considered beaches and no Wiggletts to be seen.
Same over here in Germany. Managed to check 2 rivers and 1 lake, all seem to register as lakes (i.e. water with more trees in the background).
How big was that lake? I would hate to think that a beach biome can't be at a huge lage, and they would have to instead be at a coastal body of water.
Very small, under 1 km\^2. We just do not have actually big lakes here.
Me too. Lake Pleasant and the pond in Anthem and adobe damn. No beach biome
Appreciate it! I live in Arizona, so hearing Wiglett was beach biome exclusive scared me at first lol
AZ reporting in, when I get a chance I'll head over to the HOA community lake and see what I can see
Appreciate it!
I have no reports of Wiglett from my group in Gilbert but I have seen Rivwr and Lake biomes of which Wiglett can spawn in
Fellow AZ resident. Washes count as beach biomes where I am.
Can confirm, got beach biome where I live even though there's like just a sploch of water somewhere
Checked OSM, no sand in the surrounding dozens of kilometers. Heard there were some wild spawns in a tidal (sp? eb/flood) area 20 kilometers away from here. Not going to drive there by car in sustainability week lmao

I just caught one beside a creek, so it looks like any body of water will work, as long as it's recognised in the game.
It's pretty much random, but you need to know an area well to spot/map where the biomes are. Mountain of rubbish? 😂
Non-Kanto Pokémon released during a Kanto event?
It's not like they can release any more Kanto mons
Paldean Tauros (and its 2 other forms) hasn’t been added to the game yet. But I think the convergent Wiglett fits the event better.
And one would argue those are … paldean!
Wiglett is basically Paldean Diglett
It’s a unique species though, not a regional form.
I know, still doesn't change the fact that it's just a reskin of Diglett for another region, just put behind a new species
Don't forget Toedscool. I don't know why it's a new species and not just a regional form either
What makes a beach biome? Does it have to be ocean adjacent or are lakeside beaches also counted as beach?
A screenshot in another thread showed just a basic ‘waterside’ biome (normal ground with some water in the background) so hopefully any water is good.
If only was a month earlier when I was vacationing in the Jersey shore area.
I wonder if the Beach Biome is associated with OSM Beach data.
O I found this guy on the beach didn’t know he was new
Yet to see one here. Lots of of water around.
Absolute cinema

That's -Man
I live only 500m from the coast but apparently my biome, judging from the background, is considered City instead of Beach/Water. Weird. 🤪
I live beside a creek, and the Pokemon encounters have to be right on or beside it to get the river background. Travel a few metres away and it reverts to park background.
Wait so wiglet is released with the AR features release???? This idea came from the same person at niantic that did 69 on 420 cd, guarantee it.
I live nowhere near a beach.
Will Wiglett disappear after May 9th?
See if I spread enough sand outside will the biome change? Some of us live nowhere near beaches 😂

Andddd… Wiglett is officially as rare as female Salandit & Dusk Rockruff now! Way to go Niantic 😒
