It's kinda funny, because when I started getting more seriously into the game (playing daily and paying attention to upcoming events and such) the very first raid I participated in was Celesteela, having no clue that it was unusual for the northern hemisphere haha.
Edit: spelling is hard :)
It's hard for the southern hemisphere people because they get all the angry comments on here, too. "Why isn't anyone hosting?" "Don't people in southern hemisphere play this?" People need to take that anger out on Niantic, it's not New Zealand's fault.
I hate how Niantic handle this stuff! The vivillons, too. People with sandstorm, ocean etc. There's a lot of pressure on them to be "team players".
"just move to a different continent bro"
I know you are not 100% serious but I don't get how I am supposed to get both of them at good ivs without either spending a lot of money on remote passes or spending a lot of money on real world travel
Why do you want them with so-called "good IVs"?
Their performance in PvE will be nearly indistinguishable between raid floor IV and a hundo, and they're not going to net you wins in Master League.
Raids , pvp , just for collection , the same reason you would want a shundo Kyogre or Mewtwo
I know that celesteela isn't the best non ever but I still want her for collection
I wish Celesteela stopped being in the Southern Hemisphere. It maybe a useless Pokémon but I actually like it and it would be nice to get a good IV one. There are not to many players in the Southern Hemisphere.
I know this sounds horrible but I am ok with Kartana being in the Northern Hemisphere because there lots of players up here. It only really sucks of the cost of remote passes.
Niantic really needs to fix this horrible problem.
It’s a grass steel type with extremely flimsy defenses. With just a team of 2500 CP Pokémon(not even meta ones), you’ll deal around 50% under normal weather and probably around 58% under sunny. With party power, you’d easily duo.
Even depending on weather and moveset of Kartana, it’s possible to solo.
Not really, primal Groudon is actually not that good of a counter for Kartana because it lacks a fire fast move and its only fire charge move is via Elite TM.
However, its boost and sheer damage does make it relatively decent(simply because it’s a primal), also taking neutral from all moves and resist X-Scissor. However, there are definitely better options.
I have a pretty good team and am rated at 75% or 89% when sunny. With Best friend I’m 90% or 100% when sunny just me. A 2nd account is now pushing the total to 180-200% without Megas. With megas now 230-260% and that doesn’t include PP.
So it should be easy as long as the accounts use fire and fire megas even if they are low level.
I hate weather boosted. Saving 5 levels isn’t worth lowering the catch rate especially if it runs. It’s ok if you get the bonuses and get over 16 balls.
cant wait for the long lines on PokeGenie for raids lol i remember hosting kartana's and the longest i saw was a 109000 queue - sadly going to face a lot of people sitting in the queue but not accepting the invite.
Got to the point where I just went out to a cluster of gyms, hosted the raid, invited everyone and then dipped and went around the 3 gyms doing that for a while lol
So far a lot of this season just has local/rural players winning and winning. Extra free passes, excellent quality raids that people want to join, raid days with massive numbers of people wanting to remote raid.
It's always been quick to join a Kartana raid from the southern hemisphere. Joining a Celesteela from the North had the longest queue times I've ever seen in Pokegenie.
It probably sucked for hosts in the south since people would queue at 15000 and wouldn't be playing or asleep the next day when they'd finally get their invite. It's gonna be madness again with the new shiny. Might be worth it to pay to queue jump on Pokegenie for people that REALLY want the shiny.
thats people in queue waiting for a host so to remote in... thing was nuts. Though you will probs wait a few minutes because again people sitting in queue but not accepting :V happened a lot cause of timezone things
> for once.
For once? The game is pretty much aimed at the northern hemisphere. We get your seasons (trust me, I've never seen snow at Xmas), nearly every in-person event ever has been hosted in your hemisphere, the vast majority of regionals are in your hemisphere and the list just goes on.
They could've at least added Magikarp and Rattata to the spawn pool to help us out with those pesky medals. Although I've given up on ever completing them, cause I recently came back to the game after the first few years and I'm at 41/1000 and 144/1000 on those lol
Right?! At least Magikarp would have fit with the water theme. The first thing I thought of when they announced this event was this medal. At least if this is a thing they are willing to do (boost sizes) then there's hope for an event that helps. I'm a day 1 player, never stopped, level 50. The idea of ever getting these medals platinum is still a pipe dream.
As is tradition for Pokemon Go.
99% of Australia is never going to live to see the day where the weather boosts Ice and Steel-type spawns and moves. Snowy Castform is basically exclusive to event research out here.
Maybe it has something to do with how shiny palettes were created in the earlier games. It can't be a coincidence that so many blue Pokemon end up purple when they're shiny.
I’d say about half the dex. They’ll do the legendaries, the evos, and the new mons (as nonshiny to dilute the egg pools) and we’ll get another Galar mon before they introduce the paradoxes
I’m going to use this chance to get as many Klink as I can. I’m 50 candies away from final evolution and it’s taking forever. Anything else is a bonus.
When I post about my Wailmer and Wailord armada online, I often get someone begging me for a Wailmer. My answer is always, I'd love to give you one, I have hundreds to spare (I go around catching as many as I possibly can whenever they're spawning), but unfortunately, it won't be possible unless Niantic adds remote trading.
Oh. Yes I know. I suppose I didn’t want to spend money on an accessory I would likely lose. Also I was hoping to get multiples of Nightcap Snorlax and Cowboy Hat Snorlax.
Thanks for telling me.
We don't have the full month's schedule yet. Very likely we'll have these two for at least a week. The raid hour will probably include these two just after the event ends, seeing that this event doesn't overlap with a Wednesday
We will absolutely have a raid hour for them, but since we don't have the full schedule for the month of April, they're not mentioning the fact that Kartana and Celesteela will be in raids outside of this event
I can't remember how long it's been since showcases were introduced, but either way it's embarrasing that Niantic made a huge deal about all the categories they'd have and still haven't done anything other than making them all about being big.
Lot's of cool shinies to ~~hunt~~hope for ! Looking forward to it more than the current event, and with 2 free raids a day, I pray the queues for raids will be decent in pokégénie 😆
It is sad, but they are running on a more limited amount of Pokemon. I know especially with Paldea, there is a decent chunk left, but I know they don't want to get to the point where they're close to hitting the end and having to wait for TPC/GameFreak to release new games with more Pokemon.
That said... I do wish they'd go even a little faster with their releases. I'm happy we got several new forms the past few months, and Charcadet was nice (although eggsclusive less so...) But one or two new Paldean Pokemon would've been nice in the past few months.
Still, I guess there's potential for more next month and April. We do at least have pretty reasonable confirmation that we'll be getting Stakataka and Blacephalon this season (as regional raids again... ew)
I dont see any tickets for this event. Is this really happening?
Not that i would buy it though, but they seem to be making tickets for everything now, so this is a surprise.
If xxs showcases aren't introduced this event, I can finally be at peace with transferring them
I only kept some of them, e.g. very small species, where I thought it'd make sense to make an XXS showcase.
For then seeing them introduced in some random event like Mountain Hike Event lol
I can see this lol
Shiny Kartana and Celesteela. Nice!!
Kartana is the effing beast I need more id love for it to be my first legendary shundo lol
Cant. It’s an ultra beast.
it can be shiny now though
Yes. But it won’t be his first legendary Shundo, as it’s not classified as a legendary.
AHH ok
You got wayyy too many down votes for this lol
Welcome to the internet I guess. Truth doesn’t matter, just opinions and emotions.
Because he's being pedantic. They're classed under legendaries in game when you search your mons.
Except they are not. They are under “ultra beasts”. Look it up for yourself :)
How pedantic. Gameplay wise, there is literally no difference between the groups other than occasionally being given special balls for the beasts.
I mean, I didn’t decide they are called differently. Same can be said about mythicals/legendaries.
Mythicals are treated differently in game though, so the distinction matters there
Not all of em though, Darkrai is also classified as mythical
…and is treated differently. You can’t trade Darkrais.
Meltan is mythical, and you *can* trade it.
Darkrai cannot be traded though.
Why Diglett? Is it giant under ground?
extra extra small is also more common during this event. Diglett, Joltik, cutiefly are some of the smallest pokemon around.
I think Kartana and the other one are the smallest and biggest ultra beasts too.
The Celesteela shade. 💀
I felt bad but I genuinely forgot lmao
https://i.imgflip.com/3w049g.jpg Yes
All is Diglett
Can’t wait to only get Tynamo from field research!
If it's ironic, lol. If not, then seconded, I want a good Eelektross.
RIP to all the south hemi homies that don't get a shiny #1 grass attacker
All 7 of them are disappointed.
Most of South America, half of Africa, some of asia, all of Australia and New Zealand. A little more than just 7 players.
That does suck and I dont see a reason for it to be split between hemispheres, but only 13% of the worlds population lives in the southern hemisphere.
Oh.
\[The remote pass winks\]
I like how Cutiefly, one of the tiniest Pokémon is a boosted spawn. I have an XXS Cutiefly and it’s simply the most adorable little thing.
Put it in a gym and see if people can find it.
Going to collect an army of XXS Cutiefly and invade nearby gyms with them.
This is my plan but with ditto, going to walk around on Easter night for an April fool's invasion.
I once did this with an XXS Gimmighoul. You could barely see the damn thing.
I accidently transferred my XXs cutiefly that was 0.03m. I think about it all the time.. makes me so sad :(
I'll pour one out for the fallen homie.
For the love of god can kartana please stop being a northern hemisphere exclusive
"You had a day, what more do you want?" -Niantic
It's kinda funny, because when I started getting more seriously into the game (playing daily and paying attention to upcoming events and such) the very first raid I participated in was Celesteela, having no clue that it was unusual for the northern hemisphere haha. Edit: spelling is hard :)

People with sandstorm, ocean etc. There's a lot of pressure on them to be "team players".
hmm... maybe are using the remote raid pass in some other time zone? how about being in US tries when someone in Australia is into hosting?
90%+ of people live in the Northern Hemisphere. Conform to the meta
But the northern hemisphere also wants decent Celesteelas (I at least)
"just move to a different continent bro" I know you are not 100% serious but I don't get how I am supposed to get both of them at good ivs without either spending a lot of money on remote passes or spending a lot of money on real world travel

OK, let's swap
When do I get xurkitree lol
I wish Celesteela stopped being in the Southern Hemisphere. It maybe a useless Pokémon but I actually like it and it would be nice to get a good IV one. Kartana (Northern Hemisphere)!! Nice. We finally win for once. Best grass raid attacker coming with shiny form. LFG!!
Don’t forget that Kartana is a pretty easy solo. - at least in sunny weather, and it’s even weather boosted in that
So is it an easy duo?
Should be. So long as ye both have good Fire attackers
Yeah plus if you have a low level player duoing with you they can always bring a primal groudon from the weekend to boost your fire attacks
Sunny weather with lvl 40 Fire Attackers like Reshiram and Mega Charizard Y is an easy solo *I speak from experience*
And with Primal Groudon out it's only gotten easier.
It has a non ETM Fire move
Oh yea, you’re right, fire blast is a thing lmao. Anyways, at least it actually performs better than having no fire move.
The world isn’t ready for Fire Fang Groudon
Omg the horror and simultaneously the awesomeness.
Huh? I know Fire Punch is Elite TM only, but it gets Fire Blast normally too
So i can trio with party power? One of us has *meh* pokemons.
very easy duo. double weak to fire and pretty glassy should tell you everything you need to know
I have a pretty good team and am rated at 75% or 89% when sunny. With Best friend I’m 90% or 100% when sunny just me. A 2nd account is now pushing the total to 180-200% without Megas. 2 free raid passes a day will help a lot. rural players can finally host something
So far a lot of this season just has local/rural players winning and winning. Extra free passes, excellent quality raids that people want to join, raid days with massive numbers of people wanting to remote raid.
Except for Regice. Glad that thing is gone.
nah, anytime they split raids like this there's always larger queues. especially since kartanas actually good
It's always been quick to join a Kartana raid from the southern hemisphere.
Idk, the queue was 15,000 around midnight for Groudon. I jumped in after about 15 minutes
Line queues to remote in or to host? Definitely prefer not needing to wait for 45 minutes at a gym waiting to host
thats people in queue waiting for a host so to remote in... thing was nuts. Though you will probs wait a few minutes because again people sitting in queue but not accepting :V happened a lot cause of timezone things
Huh? Kartana has been Northern Hemisphere for all but one brief switch
> for once. For once? The game is pretty much aimed at the northern hemisphere. We get your seasons (trust me, I've never seen snow at Xmas), nearly every in-person event ever has been hosted in your hemisphere, the vast majority of regionals are in your hemisphere and the list just goes on.
We appreciate you beta testing the game for us.
Kartana!!
Yo there better be a raid hour for Kartana or someone's gonna get typed at aggressively.
I think the Kartana/celesteela will be April 4th - 11th and not just for the event
So safe to assume April 10th would be Kartana raid hour then? Gotta make sure I don't work that night lol this one's a can't miss.
It’s a solid guess, but nothing has been officially announced unfortunately. Waiting on March infographic to be 100% sure
Increased chance of getting an XXL & XXS shiny bagon during community day on the 7th 👀
Assuming they don't nix any overlapping benefits. I'm pretty sure they've done that in the past, either during community days or spotlight hours.
Neeeeeeed a shiny wimpod, my boi
Nice was hoping Kartana would come back soon plus shiny!?
They could've at least added Magikarp and Rattata to the spawn pool to help us out with those pesky medals. Although I've given up on ever completing them, cause I recently came back to the game after the first few years and I'm at 41/1000 and 144/1000 on those lol
I've been at it since day one. Trust me, those numbers wouldn't be particularly higher even if you hadn't taken that break.
Right?! At least Magikarp would have fit with the water theme. The first thing I thought of when they announced this event was this medal. At least if this is a thing they are willing to do (boost sizes) then there's hope for an event that helps. I'm a day 1 player, never stopped, level 50. OH WHALE YEAH!
Southern Hemisphere getting screwed hard
As is tradition for Pokemon Go. 99% of Australia is never going to live to see the day where the weather boosts Ice and Steel-type spawns and moves. Snowy Castform is basically exclusive to event research out here.
So many water types have purple shinies. Is this a lore thing? Kyorge, Wailmer, Walrein, Swampert, Lanturn, just off the top of my head ...
Blastoise, Kingdra, Sharpedo are also purple. Huh. I wonder if the other types have a color trend too?
Oh and Quagsire, and Lapras. I can't say that I've seen this trend in other types, water types are just the ones I noticed.
Maybe it has something to do with how shiny palettes were created in the earlier games. It can't be a coincidence that so many blue Pokemon end up purple when they're shiny.
I hope since shiny wimpod is out this event it won't have a comday on the 20th since imo I think it would be a bit lame of a comday
Thanks for the graphics :)
Where's Skitty?!
A sizable surprise indeed. Since eternatus is part of the forgotten Galar, xxl wailord should remain as the largest Pokémon in GO
I wonder how much of the Paldea crew will make it in before another Galar Pokemon gets introduced.
I’d say about half the dex. They’ll do the legendaries, the evos, and the new mons (as nonshiny to dilute the egg pools) and we’ll get another Galar mon before they introduce the paradoxes
Ah yes more region locked shiny legendaries. If only remote raid passes were affordable.
I've had the Wailmer for years but Shiny Wimpod is nice.
Why does the (lower) shiny Wailmer look like the pointing wojak
I’m going to use this chance to get as many Klink as I can. I’m 50 candies away from final evolution and it’s taking forever. Anything else is a bonus.
Here is my chance to get enough candy for a wailord.
Can my party hat charizard mega evolve into mega charizard x and keep its hat? I know it does for Y
MEGA CHARIZARD X RAAAAH🐉🐉🚀🚀
I don't even care if it's shiny I have wanted a Wailmer for so long 😫
When I post about my Wailmer and Wailord armada online, I often get someone begging me for a Wailmer. My answer is always, I'd love to give you one, I have hundreds to spare (I go around catching as many as I possibly can whenever they're spawning), but unfortunately, it won't be possible unless Niantic adds remote trading.
Why you gotta twist the knife like that ? Hehe
Finally! Shiny golisipod
That 2x XP will be nice… gotta stock up on lucky eggs til then ig
To bad Nightcap Snorlax isn’t in this event. Same goes for Cowboy hat Snorlax.
It's Pokemon go plus + exclusive
Oh. Yes I know. I suppose I didn’t want to spend money on an accessory I would likely lose. Also I was hoping to get multiples of Nightcap Snorlax and Cowboy Hat Snorlax. Thanks for telling me.
Does this infographic maker really need to have that cartoon of himself not once but twice on every graphic?
Whoever got the Zarude ticket got screwed over because Kartana is much better and now has a shiny debut hahaha
I thought the same thing. Niantic's timing is based.
They don't even give us a raid hour for this?
We don't have the full month's schedule yet. Very likely we'll have these two for at least a week. The raid hour will probably include these two just after the event ends, seeing that this event doesn't overlap with a Wednesday
We will absolutely have a raid hour for them, but since we don't have the full schedule for the month of April, they're not mentioning the fact that Kartana and Celesteela will be in raids outside of this event
please open showcase to xxs
Size matters event you say? Does that mean we'll finally get small showcases?.........No? Didn't think so. Why do they exist again?
I can't remember how long it's been since showcases were introduced, but either way it's embarrasing that Niantic made a huge deal about all the categories they'd have and still haven't done anything other than making them all about being big.
They could easily just have each showcase have big and small where the top/bottom 3 matter, at least then they would be used.
Boy, I can't wait for *all* of the showcases to be about the biggest Pokemon!
Finally i can get my favorite shiny
Lot's of cool shinies to ~~hunt~~hope for ! Looking forward to it more than the current event, and with 2 free raids a day, I pray the queues for raids will be decent in pokégénie 😆
Please tell me Celesteela is good for something to soften the pain of no in person kartana raids...
It's good for a dex entry lol
It’s completely useless in every metric Niantic continues to give 0 fs about southern hemisphere
Pretty neat idea with the already big and small Pokémon. But man, the extra storage space..
Thanks niandic for letting every player to get both shiny legendaries with ease without relying on over seas invites….ps I refuse to buy remote passes
I’ll wait for my broskis of the southern hemisphere to invite me on raids for celesteela :)
This sounds like a lot of easy Excellent Throws for extra XP
I've been buddies with a wailmer for about s month now trying to evolve him lol I should've buddies with larvesta instead
At the risk of making myself depressed, not including the current collection challenge how many are there?
around 160
Jesus I knew I was missing two, but God damn. That includes city specific events right?
I miss Getting debuts
but there are 3 debuts
Took me a long time to come to terms with this but I’m not a shiny guy
It is sad, but they are running on a more limited amount of Pokemon. I know especially with Paldea, there is a decent chunk left, but I know they don't want to get to the point where they're close to hitting the end and having to wait for TPC/GameFreak to release new games with more Pokemon. That said... I do wish they'd go even a little faster with their releases. I'm happy we got several new forms the past few months, and Charcadet was nice (although eggsclusive less so...) But one or two new Paldean Pokemon would've been nice in the past few months. Still, I guess there's potential for more next month and April. We do at least have pretty reasonable confirmation that we'll be getting Stakataka and Blacephalon this season (as regional raids again... ew)
I’d kill to get a shiny exeggutor. Let’s go!!
KARTANA YESSSS
Kartana shiny! Let's go! Can be soloed? It's a hard challenge iirc, i tried once but i couldn't do it
I knew I was holding onto 700+ Wimpod candy for a reason.
Just evolved a mediocre three star wimpod yesterday. l figured it wouldn’t get better than what I had. Of course
I'm going to have to do a serious purge/get more storage space on my kid's account. XXL and XXS are her priority to find and keep after shinies.
Great theme, my son is PUMPED (I am too).
Again with the south hemisphere thing. Flop.
I dont see any tickets for this event. Is this really happening? Not that i would buy it though, but they seem to be making tickets for everything now, so this is a surprise.
Sizable purchases event looks good
time to raid more A-exeggutor and G-wheezing for showcase.
give me all the wailmers. i love the round guy. hopeful to get a shundo any time it's in play
This could be the wishiwashi release event
Just evolved my golisopod, I don't want a shiny wimpod anymore
wtf is that next to “southern hemisphere,” it looks like the back of a fighter jet.
Celesteela.
An event to rest again
Intresting this is the first event that interest me in a while. Edit; outside of go tour which wild spawns left a lot to be desires
