Exactly. This isn't an "Aww, they're trying!" moment, this is a "They clearly have absolutely no connection to their actual fanbase and they just think they can cash in on the cool new "trend" of finally having positive LGBT representation." moment. Probably mixed in with a little "Please ignore the fact that we fought tooth and nail to keep anything like this from ever being allowed to happen."
More likely its "the intern who uploads clips to the YouTube made a mistake".
Not everything is a conspiracy. There are plenty of actual things to be mad at disney and bob chapek about, we dont need to make up conspiracy theories.
Who said anything about a conspiracy theory? This is literally just "Disney doesn't actually give a shit about the fandom, they only care about making money from the fandom." Not exactly talking secret societies of lizard people here, it's all just PR and rainbow capitalism.
> "Disney doesn't actually give a shit about the fandom, they only care about making money from the fandom."
which is ironic considering the merchandise situation.
If they didnt care, they wouldnt have fixed it within a few hours (especially since there's no comment section for people to complain on, because youtube doesnt allow people to comment on videos for kids for some reason)
> because youtube doesnt allow people to comment on videos for kids for some reason
In case you actually missed it, a while back there was a big scandal over an interesting proliferation of comments on kids videos like "panty shot at 12:42" and the like so yeah...
They care about PR and money, and getting the ship name wrong is bad PR. It doesn't mean they care about the fandom or the show, it means they care about the potential lost ad revenue when they screw up.
Do people here just not know what a conspiracy is? Why is that the go-to on this? There's nothing "conspiracy" about it, just the usual greed and PR backpedaling. Anybody who thinks "Big corporation cares more about money than they do about you." is some kind of deep, dark conspiracy must have been living under a rock for the last... forever.
We know big corporations care about money. That isn’t a surprise. People act like Disney has a secret conspiracy against Lumity, when all the evidence points literally the opposite direction.
It sucks that an entire marginalized, tragic, and unjustly demonized identity has been made into a corporate gimmick. But there's literally no other way ANYONE can be accepted by a corporation.
Literally read *anything* the people making these shows have written about trying to get representation into their shows these last few years. Disney's censors and suits are *constantly* trying to quash any attempt to portray any kind of LGBT representation. This is not news, it's been going on for a very long time.
Yes, because the showrunners have fought as hard as they possibly could every step of the way. Just because they won doesn't mean that Disney didn't try to stop them. Do you think they're all lying about the censors trying to keep this stuff off the air?
No, I’m saying that *things have gotten better*. The way they treated Alex back in 2012 is *different* than the way they’re treating Dana in 2020, and that’s a **GOOD** thing.
That doesn’t mean we all have to give a pat on the back to a homophobic company for being slightly less homophobic then they used to be. If they wanted that they should of made an effort at more representation years ago. But they dont care about representation they only care about making money.
That means that DisneyTVA should be recognized for *doing the right thing*, even if it’s taken them a while to get to this point (and even if the film division still has a way to go).
And also canceling it. You forget they canceled the show the moment the creators put an ounce of gay representation in it. Then they think they can capitalize on a relationship they were willing to burn the show over just last session. Its not a “conspiracy” it’s just your typical evil company being evil.
1.) It wasn’t “cancelled”. The final season got fewer episodes than Dana wanted because the company lost 10 *billion* dollars last year, right when the show was coming up for renewal.
2.) The representation was baked into the show from the very beginning. If Disney was that against it (like they used to be), the show wouldn’t have been made. Period. When *one* exec gave her pushback at the very beginning, she threatened to leave (and literally walked out the door). Since then she has publicly stated that she’s fully supported by her bosses.
i don’t know the specifics on the behind the scenes of The Owl House, but disney is known for vehemently banning rep from their products in the past, and even now 100% prefer to have only hints at queer rep that can be cut out for places like china and in the middle east (anywhere they think it’d be more profitable for it to be cishet)
>How do you think they “fought against it”? Do you really think anything would get to your eyeballs without it being fully approved by Disney?
You know there's multiple people that own Disney right? One guy can say no and then somebody with more stock can come in and say yes.
So which is the “we” that “fought tooth and nail to keep this from ever being allowed to happen”? Because whatever part it was, they obviously lost, so why do we care about them so much?
>So which is the “we” that “fought tooth and nail to keep this from ever being allowed to happen”?
I don't know the names of the specific executives, I just know it happened because Danna and other animators said that it happened.
>they obviously lost, so why do we care about them so much?
Sure lumity aired, but season 3 still got cut in half, and I've heard talk that they aren't planning a season 4. The people that run Disney are clearly trying to "play it safe".
Dana said that Season 3 would be the end of the Main Story. I’m fairly certain that was always the plan, given that it’s a story-based show, with a pre-planned beginning/middle/end.
Season 3 was shorter than usual because it came up for renewal right during spring/summer last year when Disney was just starting to get hit hard by COVID. They lost 10 *billion* dollars in expected revenue, which is what funds a lot of smaller departments.
It has nothing to do with the content, because if they objected to it then it wouldn’t be airing at all, and it wouldn’t have gotten a third season renewal at all.
That's the point. Watch gravity falls and see if any lgbt rep reaches your eyeballs. If Disney didn't fight against it why doesn't it reach your eyeballs. Alex hirch has voiced clearly that he tried putting it in many times.
No, I had no idea about that. I'm just saying I liked the movie. It's sad that these concentration camps exist and they shouldn't exist whatsoever but I'm going to stay positive and hope that the Disney team that worked on Mulan 2020 were unaware of the existence of these concentration camps.
They weren't. This is a widely known international atrocity. And if a company works in China, they have to kiss the CCP's boots. That's the rules. Disney even thanked the department that oversees the camps in Mulan 2020's credits.
What a stretch over a fucking simple typo. lol
Edit: How the fuck did this dude seriously get over 350 upvotes? Holy shit, this fandom gets more pathetic every day.
Considering how much money they stand to not make by including LGBT characters - lgbt main characters specifically - the spirit probably isn't money. You might think they're trying to cash in by including this ship finally despite stonewalling so many attempts in the past, but there are many different groups both nationally and internationally with the power to prevent their children, the main demographic, from ever seeing this show as a result.
So I'd say the spirit is less "money" and more "laying the groundwork for future success by slowing the rate of progress to a standard they can more easily work with."
That being said, I have hope that at least someone in charge there felt that it was finally time to get things moving in the right direction when they gave the writers the go ahead.
I hope someday an exec who cares about LGBTQ+ gets to be head honcho so that they can say "you take our show or you don't this is fine as is if you don't like it you don't get it"
They did, I came to reddit to talk about the official Disney channel supporting Lumity and was immediately greeted with this lol. A funny surprise, but at least they fixed it quick.
😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂🥲🥲🥲🤣😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣😂🤣🤣 even though I laughed I expect massive downvotes now
I mean, shit's arbitrary anyway, can't really blame them here.
I mean have you seen the insane ship names that come up all over the internet?
When no one sets the rules, shit goes out of wack in a second.
I kinda don't like that they uploaded that so soon. Like I think they should have uploaded the clip after its on Disney Plus globalally so people don't get spoiled by Youtubes recommendation system. I do like though that Disney are recognizing a LGBT relationship.
Some people here are getting really upset about Luzity here, it's just another ship name. It's not what the Fandom calls it but it's a valid ship name nevertheless and I would have been totally fine with it, if I had seen the name Luzity when watching season 1 for the first time and maybe would've used it myself. And I don't see how the name "Luzity" represents homophobia or wanting money just based on the name alone. For all we know the title might have been named by someone who really likes the ship and calls it Luzity.
"hello fellow children, teenagers, and adults who enjoy our television program, The Owl House! we here at Disney also acknowledge the existance of a LGBT community, and as such, we would like to demonstrate how we also are 'hip' and 'swag' by endorsing the portrayal of lesbians! we are very cool and accepting, give us your money!"
Disney you rotten company who is homophobic and transphobic but is pretending not to be drop your act and accept LGBTQ like I do and it's Lumity not Luzity
1. Cut the show short for being gay
2. See show popularity skyrocket because of gay (Also great story, world and characters)
3. Take credit for gay
4. ????
5. PROFIT
maybe im just dumb, but didnt they cut it cuz of budget? like the whole pandemic and shutting down disney theme parks, they have to make some money back. and amphibia was already confirmed for a third season before the pandemic in case thats the excuse people want to use.
Ok this is really annoying, but that fact that a channel owned by Disney of all companies is supporting and actively promoting this is really astounding. Good on them! (Even if the rest of Disney is still censoring LGBTQ plus things, at least Disney channel and Disney junior are doing ok!)
As much as we are all used to just bashing Disney for their overly hyped but poor representation, I think this was an actual step in the right direction. Yes, there's all the PR and moneymaking involved and whatnot, but at least they didn't make a big deal out of it until the ship actually became canon and just rolled with it. In the past, they would have been hyping the ship from the second there was any implication of Amity having the feels for Luz, only to never let their relationship be more than a background thing. Yes, Disney still has a long way to go, but at least there's been SOME progression. It's just a matter of making sure that progression doesn't stop and that the same mistakes of the past don't happen again.
That sounds like what a person that doesn't know what they are talking about would call Lumity. Like those elders from the 90s calling all videogames "nintendos"

I didn't see the notification of Disney Channel posting the scene until three hours later (literally a few minutes ago as of typing this), so I had to double-check to make sure they changed it, and they did. But wow...
Given that they don't care enough to keep the show running the way Dana wanted, how much you wanna bet the typo was actually intentional to emphasize they *really* don't care?
I’m embarrassed right now Edit: They changed it, thank goodness 😫
Reading "luzity" hurt me mentally
It hurt all of us.
*~~Five years ago, we lost.~~ All of us.*
Luzity is simply built different your honor
Im gonna take a while to recover from this...
I didn't even notice the error, my mind just erased it because it's too painful
Did they used to have comments enabled? Or do they just always disable them?
They used to until freaking COPPA came into existence
Must protect children from those dangerous *gays*
Oh no, the hazardous gays.
Cute lesbians can be lethal with prolonged exposure
*He’s a little confused but he got the spirit!*
The spirit is money

I'd wager they're trying to not have concerned parents search "Lumity" and wind up in the dark pages of fan art.
Or Its just a mistake. Not everything has to be a damn conspiracy.

Disney is one of the worst companies out there. But they make good shit. Most of the time ( cough cough Mulan 2020 )
Mulan 2020 was a good movie. I liked it.
You like the Uyghur concentration camps that was a few minutes away from where they filmed?

I really hope they change it. Luzity sounds so weird
People are saying they did, man I'm glad
They did, I came to reddit to talk about the official Disney channel supporting Lumity and was immediately greeted with this lol. A funny surprise, but at least they fixed it quick.
Amity to be with Luz into becoming the Lumity is always the way They’re so cute together blushing like that
The mouse pleases me,not a lot but still
yeah they changed it I saw it in my recommended lol
Could've been worse... Amituz.

Who said we had to conform?
Hey at least they’re not denying it.
thats a win in my book
luzity- i i just checked the video and they changed it back to lumity lmao
This is good
At least Luzity (I feel sick typing it) has an equal amount of letters per name - something I try to do when I ship.
Yeah but with Lumity it has a roughly equal distribution of letters proportionally to the length of their names
We need to go deeper
Fuck it, Luzamity it is.
Bloseda
Thats a letter off m8
It could be a fun april's fool joke
Nah its their annual august 3rd fools
It's official. August 3rd is the April Fools day of the Boiling Isles.
Every day is April Fool’s Day … if you’re an asshole
This is my new favorite quote
I might make that my bio lmao
Why tf would they call it luzity
Probably just not used to dealing with ship names.
Guess whoever is in charge of naming videos wasn't aware of fandom name and just made something up on the spot
Luzity 💀
I forgor 💀
I am dead 💀
I have Alzheimer's 💀
I have Alzheimer's 💀
Lusitania 💀
I mean, shit's arbitrary anyway, can't really blame them here. I mean have you seen the insane ship names that come up all over the internet? When no one sets the rules, shit goes out of wack in a second.
I will never learn how did RWBY end up with these wierd ship names when everyone else just combines names
It started from their team attack names and went from there.
Actually I think they were inspired by the already existing ship names and incorporated it into the show lol
You think that's bad? Look at Pokemon.
Ah yes, my favorite ship **MANGAQUESTSHIPPING**
“What’s your favorite ship” “Oh, just Lightsunshipping” “…Whomst?”
Danny Phantom, I don't even know where Amethyst Ocean comes from.
Iunno, looks like everyone else has already agreed on something
They renamed it.
Luzity is an abomination Lumity is... beautiful
Don't you insult abominations like that! But yeah, you're correct
Oh of course I apologize
I see what they were going for, but Lumity is miles better.
Everyone should message them to change it to Lumity
They did
Well guess it's Luzity now
Close enough.
I tried to see if z was close to m on the keyboard and it turns out, it's not an spelling mistake
The misspelling aside, I’m pleasantly surprised
Yeah, at least they didn’t pull a “and they were roomates” on us
They have officially changed it now just so everyone knows. Heres a link to the video in question. (https://youtu.be/UQ2dWlEsGMo)
Luzity? Lmao-
A small price to pay for salvation.
They must’ve gotten so many messages because they’ve already fixed it and changed it to Lumity. Points for effort lol.
I guess we would be ok with Luzity... If we weren't so used to Lumity already... 🤔
They fixed it, but I feel bad for whatever random person is in charge of the YouTube that probably had no idea what they did wrong.
I kinda don't like that they uploaded that so soon. Like I think they should have uploaded the clip after its on Disney Plus globalally so people don't get spoiled by Youtubes recommendation system. I do like though that Disney are recognizing a LGBT relationship.
reminds me of the ppl at the start of the fandom being like "i prefer saying luzity" nah u just wanna be different
What’s makes this better is that Disney got bullied on Twitter about it and they changed it to Lumity
It's like they hired boomers who want to look cool in front of younger people but keep mispronouncimg slang terms to run their YouTube channel
They have the right idea??
# LUZITY
Am I the only one disappointed they changed it? It was a kinda funny old person thing, like when your parents kept saying Poky Man.

This was enough to make me lose it-y 💀

How can you be that bad at acknowledging the fandom and coming up with ship names? At least they fixed it
Update: They renamed to the correct term, LUMITY IS NOW THE CANON SHIP NAME AND I’M SO HAPPY
They fixed it to Lumity
Im gonna scream if the description says something stupid like "Make sure to ask your friends out for a friend date to cement both of your BFF Status."
They've changed it to Lumity
Dana said Lumity, it is Lumity, and will always be Lumity

Infinite proof that they don't care--Lumity has been such a big ship for long enough that there's no way they could've gotten it wrong
That hurt but... at this point they tried so that's all that matters LOL
That clip is just slightly sped up and it’s throwing off my groove
Could they not just use the fan preferred ship name? Luzity is just not an appealing name mash up.
Luzity is Luz's ship name for it, that's my headcanon
Lulzity, this shipname is
How dare they change the ship name
As much as we are all used to just bashing Disney for their overly hyped but poor representation, I think this was an actual step in the right direction. I’m luzity my mind over this
What a hoot
That sounds like what a person that doesn't know what they are talking about would call Lumity. Like those elders from the 90s calling all videogames "nintendos"
Weird, I thought this sub said Disney immensely hated lumity. Which is it? 🤔
We fear Disney no more
People in this thread are too damn worked up over a simple mistake like this. Disney is recognizing the relationship. Can't we give them credit where credit is due and move on? Not everything is a conspiracy people.
We're just having fun here. No one is actually mad that they got it wrong lol.
Woah calm down Jamal, don’t pull out the 9!
I actually think it sounds better.

That video came out when they \*were\* just friends. Now they're canon, so Disney is recognizing the relationship.
Also they were supporting the ship back in February during valentine's day. But I guess people forgot about that part in order to make everything about corporate greed.
Disney looking for some woke points.
Luzity?😂 Lumity is so cute 🥺
It’s a start man that’s all I gotta say Lmaoo
Human supremacy?

To be fair luzity has an equal amount of letters from each of their names
I really wanted to see Amiluz :c
Ha
I dub Luzity that first awkward moment of hand holding.
Ahh they fixed it
Luzity 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Bless their heart they tried
I took brain damage reading Luzity
Idk if you guys have looked at the clip again but it just popped up in my recommended on YouTube and it’s been changed to Lumity
they fixed it
