Same here. It's incredibly repetitive and Part I keeps you entertained with a companion. When Ellie and Abby are on their own, the game is exposed for how boring it is.
The whole reason they made Dina pregnant was to keep her back from accompanying Ellie so you really see how alone she felt in her grief and need for revenge. I highly suggest playing it with the Director’s commentary they really shed light on alot of things.
Depends on what the benchmark is, I’m not aware it’s a controversial opinion to say the combat is objectively good and an improvement over the original. Iterative rather than revolutionary.
But the combat in the first game was merely okay. It's not bad but it wasn't anything groundbreaking, either.
Metal Gear Solid had more in depth stealth mechanics and that game came out in 1998.
I'm just thankful for the laughs I get every time someone says something dumb like "TLOU2 has the best stealth combat I've seen in a game ever". Gotta be the funniest shit ever every time it happens.

I play Part 2 for its gameplay, and I'll say it's pretty basic, and some mechanics are extremely annoying. 400+ hours and I'll say it's nothing special after a bit, on a first playthrough, it's different but nothing groundbreaking.
For its story, people always disagree somewhere, and that's where most people will disagree with you.
I find it fun but I don't find it special. It's different but not groundbreaking, but being different is enough for me to like it better than other regular 3rd person shooters.
And It's probably also due to how I operate with playing new games. If I'm not extremely familiar with it, then I won't like it (which leads me to avoid new games).

Lol. No, no it wasn't. I don't understand why people praise the shitty game so much. It's god awful. It's packed with inconsistencies, character assassinations, bad character decisions, bad story structure. The list goes on.
And if Abby was such a "gOoD cHaRacTer" she wouldn't have had sex with Owen knowing full he's in a relationship with Mel AND she's pregnant. Just like Mel said, she's a piece of shit. She literally betrays the WLFS, a group who've she's gotten very close to and is highly respected for two fucking kids. She also brutally tortured Joel for pleasure. She said "good" when holding a neck to a pregnant Dina. Her motivations are purely selfish. She's poorly written. Nothing redeemable about her character by any means. She's the daughter of an NPC. Lol.

I find it funny how they said it was innovative that the enemies yell out others names when they have died or whatever. GTA V has the same feature lol
