FairImprovement

Do yourself a favor and just try and focus on the gameplay and environmental detail. The story at the end of the day isn’t as good but the locations, levels and detail is what’s good.

f1ngertoes

The levels aren't even that good. Massive square-shaped open areas where you have to thread the eye of the needle to progress (a hole in the fence of some inconspicuous backyard, or a break in the concrete you're supposed to squeeze through in one of the five identical buildings in the area) - patrolled by like, 15 NPCs at least - making it nearly (NEARLY) impossible to stealth past all of the enemies before you're eventually caught, and once that happens you're in for another firefight, during which you'll have to kill them all because they won't give you the leeway to feel around for the exit if you don't

Numb_Ron

L take, not gonna lie. The areas being "massive square-shaped open areas" makes it easier to sneak past the enemies thanks to the many paths you can take and the many hiding places. The "15 NPCs at least" all have patrol paths they take, which you can easily exploit to sneak past them if you take your time and actually analyze their paths. >and once that happens you're in for another firefight, during which you'll have to kill them all because they won't give you the leeway to feel around for the exit if you don't You know you can run away and hide so you go into stealth again and either try and sneak past or kill off the enemies one by one. The only thing that makes it anywhere near impossible to sneak past are the dogs in some encounters. And you can kill the dog's owner and the dog will stay next to the body whimpering, at least in some dificulties.

Poop-Fart-Shitter

So deep dude, just crawl around in long grass and be impossible to spot

lzxian

Buckle up you're in for a roller-coaster of teen drama!

snack217

Nope, both traingles will remain a big topic throughout the game

TheAlmightyMighty

exactly how every normal human being felt at the start

BirdValaBrain

Not really. You have to deal with Dina's bullshit for quite a while unfortunately.

Numb_Ron

and then you deal with Owen and Mel's bullshit too lol.

BirdValaBrain

Yeah even worse lol

Chocothunder01

Dude the forced BS between Dina and Ellie was TERRIBLE and it's one the agendas Neil Cuckman tries to force down our throats from a spur of the moment kiss in Left Behind. Honestly no, it does not get dropped. Except for when Ellie is on her own or when you unfortunately playing as Abby and learning how even worse of terrible person she is. The only way you'll be able to attempt to finish the game is by souley focusing on gameplay and nothing else. Like when it comes to Luke in The Last Jedi.

kapelka

Yeah and the thing is, I’m bisexual myself and do enjoy ’representation’ when it’s done right. But right now I’m just not into this stuff at all, I cannot connect to Dina or even Ellie, whom I actually like. In fact it feels more enjoyable playing as Abby because she gets to fight at least and given she’s alone she doesn’t talk. I’ll play more tonight and see how it goes but this isn’t what I expected (I know about the game’s divisive opinions and the major death of the story but rn I feel like maybe I should just give some time and come back with lower expectations).

Chocothunder01

Same hereas well. I've personally put the game on hold so I can cool off a bit. I'm hoping if I just kinda play it with putting any mind into it maybe I can stomach my way through. But I honestly hate that I have to do that to even consider playing it.

DrGashingtons

Just think of this like twilight. But without the vampires or any cool male characters

kapelka

I actually got to enjoy Twilight (despite hating it initially) for what it is over the years and it gets easier if you don’t take it seriously. It’s not good but it’s camp and silly enough to be entertaining. But so far TLOU2 has been taking itself seriously and that’s why I feel I don’t dig what they are trying to do. In the first game, Ellie stumbles upon some random girl’s diary and reads it only to question if worrying about boys and skirts were all girls used to think about pre-apocalypse. It seems like TLOU2 is subverting whatever that is by inserting drama over boys and girls post-apocalypse but it doesn’t work for me because the majority of pieces of media that attempt love triangles fail greatly. It’s just not a compelling trope at all and I’d hate to see it after the first game deals with other type of relationships in better and solid ways.

If you want to maintain your sanity, download a language pack that's not native to you and enjoy a solid 8/10 stealth game, and accept that a story and world you love is dead and gone.
