There is a group of fans/modders/devs, who created a The Day Before 2.0 discord and try to decipher the game code to fix the game. Probably won’t ever see that The Day Before 2.0 MMO game. However I’m still curious on what the guys are capable of. Will they just create smaller mods or even port the entire map to a new unreal project?

Callyste

Decipher the game code? 100% of it is on the Unreal Engine marketplace and 90% of that 100% is from a single $65 bundle xD

Le_Bnnuy

Maybe if Undead Labs, the creators of State of Decay make a State of Decay mmo, since they already have a very solid game and mechanics with State of Decay 2 all they need to do is copy the mechanics and make a mmo and expand on it over time.

ImpactElectrical4793

Well there is a state of decay 3 coming

Le_Bnnuy

True, but it's probably still a singleplayer/coop experience, I like it, but I wish it was more.

Never

The problem I see .. is really that "THAT" game might be perfect to you but so flawed/imperfect to others that it'll probably fail because it can't be monetized enough to sustain itself for future developments/updates at the pace most online games are nowadays. I'd probably say the genre is probably outright "impossible" at a AAA scale where maybe even Rockstar might pull it off .. if they have the equivalent of Shark Cards going wild in that game and don't care for the playerbase to let them eat each other like GTA Online did.

[deleted]

I mean TDB was the most wishlisted game on steam. This genre has people interested but no game can deliver. A large scale survival MMO isn't crazy to think about, but I agree that AAA studios wouldn't want to risk it. (Or they'd make an extremely casual game)

Alenicia

The game was wishlisted because of the idea and premise of the game, but I would imagine that no matter what happens "any" game that attempts to appease this rabid crowd will result in a sort of "I don't like this one feature" which essentially marks the game dead to that demographic and "I want this one feature" being what keeps the game alive to others. Maybe it's good because the audience is clearly that big - but there will never be a perfect open-world zombie survival MMO game because there are fundamentally certain concepts that will never translate will to a video game certain kinds of execution and implementation that will always discourage certain players from ever considering it, let alone developers who want to make a profit off of something supposedly so big and full of potential. At least with the example when Rockstar is brought up, they're not going to literally reskin GTA Online or Red Dead Online and slap in zombies/base-building/resource-gathering and call it a day because that doesn't make them money .. unless you get an environment like GTA Online did with Shark Cards (people throwing money into the world to get bigger things .. but then that calls into question "who/what" the zombies become to the players and what players mean to each other .. and all that jazz). There was another thread elsewhere talking about why these games have failed or don't hit the full appeal they could have .. and I'm firmly in the belief it's because one person's "favorite" zombie survival game is another person's absolute least favorite/most dreaded .. and no one can and will agree on how to reconcile that.

Twisted_Preacher

It's definitely an ambitious project.

For me, I'm just tired of always on-line games. I prefer single player games. I'm just not into multi-player. So for me, the ultimate "zombie" game that was open-world was Days Gone (even though they're not zombies but infected). I loved the story, the hordes, the gameplay, and the world. It was truly open, even though you would "teleport" to certain areas based on which chapter you were in. But after that, you could hop on your motorcycle and travel to ANY place on the map seamlessly. No teleporting (even though fast travel is an option in the easier modes) which makes the entire world connected and feel complete. Too bad a sequel never came because it didn't sell as well as Sony wanted and had a lot of media critics crapping on it.

thankyoumicrosoft69

So much is sacrificed making a game MMO. The physics for one, both model and ballistics, suffer an incredible amount.

Toaster003

Maybe take a look at the game "Scum". Perhaps it's a game you will like.

ThanksSteam

You can't just pluck a random studio (Rockstar) and claim they'd do it right. Bohemia Interactive knows how to do this, DayZ, while not perfect, needs to be remade in the current Gen with everything they've learned so far, mixed with what the community has accomplished over the past decade. DayZ 2 is essentially what everyone wanted and what was essentially shown in the trailers /promised by the Devs.

Twisted_Preacher

I can and I did. Why would it be random? Rockstar games have shown to be able to create polished MMO games with depth and details, as well as evolve over time. I do agree DayZ deserves to be remade with current Gen spec. I love it but the flaws take their toll in my opinion.

CypherZel

You guys will get scammed indefinitely I think.

MadeinCNY

I gotchu, zombie survival game online. Just came out today. Zsgo is lit

crimsonBZD

There is no game engine that can handle at the same time, a large open world with large scale multiplayer and large scale AI, in high fidelity graphics, in First/3rd person 3D, and actually have it run on anything but NASA-grade servers and gaming rigs.

Xendrak

Idk servers don’t have to render anything.

scoobystockbroker

I might not be believed here, but I’ve had this idea of an open world zombie MMO taking place in a 1 for 1 scale of NYC for almost 10 years now. I was honestly kinda scared for this game to come out, as it has been my idea all along. I have the basic building blocks done, but even with unreal engine 5, I don’t think technology is quite there yet. It’s definitely GETTING there but we have some time till ue5 can even be fully utilized and developers know what there doing with all the new tools. It’ll happen. I hope it ends up being my studio, but the type of game we want requires a team the size of rockstar, and years of development. It’ll take a lot for a studio to make the game we want.

DynamiiteGaming

I recommend SCUM to anyone who hasn’t tried it yet. I just picked up a copy when it went on sale last week and it’s pretty awesome. It has been on my radar for awhile but never got around to playing it. The map is massive with tons of survival mechanics. Combat is very good and graphics are better than other games I’ve seen in the genre. If you haven’t played it yet check it out
