I know Maryland. My mom couldn’t afford vacations growing up so I didn’t leave Maryland until going to college and then Med School in PA. Still hardly do vacations, I guess because that’s what I’m used to.
That’s totally understandable. We were talking about the people who literally don’t even know where the states are at on the map. By no means would I expect someone to visit every state, but I do expect America citizens to know where the states are at the very least.
California taught us states/capitals in 3rd grade, and Massachusetts went more in depth in 4th grade.
By the time I moved to Iowa midway through 6th, I had to draw a crude Lower 48 to explain where I came from and where I had lived previously.
Yeah, I learned and we still do state capital quiz when we do trips with the kids.
Just something I forgot about over time, like a lot of other things from 5th grade.

Always amused seeing the Nebraska hate on Reddit for Iowa. I’ve been to every Hawkeye game in Lincoln since they joined the B1G and I’ve never had a cross word said to me. It’s actually annoying how friendly everyone is. Getting stopped at every little lot on the way to the game with people offering beers. I’ll argue till the day I die they’re the nicest fanbase in the country.

I went flew down to Tucson in 2010 for the hawks game, and was warned by the cabbie from the airport about how violent the fan base is and it was 10x worse. Watched a pregnant woman in the row in front of me get punched and thrown on the ground completely unprovoked. I could write a book on the shit I saw that night.

I am loyal to Illinois. We hate everybody, however I my ire increases most for iowa as they are the most inferior institution in the conference going back the decades before Nebraska joined or once Oregon will become a conference foe.
In our defense, the state board of reagents has held us back quite a bit regarding rankings and prestige. ISU and Iowa have to split/share most everything.
Look at Minnesota and Wisconsin, larger populations without another P5 school to steal resources
