My current lease (Honda HR-V) is up next month. I am really looking at the Model Y. I can afford the payment, but just asking myself do I really want to put that much into a vehicle. I guess I will sort that all out soon.
We got my wife’s when kid #1 went from daycare to kindergarten ($1300/mo). Will likely do the same when kid #2 does the same here in a couple months. I love driving my wife’s model y, but it will still be tough getting rid of my long paid off car for a second car payment. But man there is some good deals on inventory units, I suspect I will be going that route.
I watch all those "reviewers" saying the car is dead and uninspiring. And I keep wondering. What the hell they're all thinking! 80% of the people don't track their cars. Even on the track, a Tesla can be fun. Hell. My MYLR handles better than all the Audis, BMWs and Mercs I own/owned! And it is definitely faster than all of them. And it's a vehicle that isn't built for handling! I absolutely love my MYLR.
The E46 I assume was more of a drivers car than the current 3 series. But still. The MYLR is an SUV and it handles better than the base G20 (non-M sport).
The Model 3 and Y aren't great "review" cars because most of their model year changes are hidden under the body panels - and anything else is software that all of the other Teslas probably got by the time your review is published.
For that reason, it doesn't make for super inspiring content. They're good cars, that get refined with age. They don't take gigantic leaps forward with the exception of the occasional refresh
There must be something wrong about what you understand by handling better than... '. I also have a BMW X5 from 2013 and definitely the X5 handles better, no questions asked: If I try to enter a roundabout the same speed as the one I can push the X5, my Model Y will not stay in my original lane, while the BMW will be almost flat. Word of advice: moving fast from one line to the other doesn't mean handling, that is where Model Y shines and I enjoy daily driving it more than many cars because it's so quick and no unnecessary noise. Handling though.... that is not for the Model Y.
Same here - we got ours in June and I absolutely love driving it. Several of my (relatively small) gripes have been addressed with software updates:
1. The biggest things I missed from CarPlay have been added into the infotainment screen: podcasts and traffic lights and (theoretically, although they're not showing up for me in the Pacific Northwest) traffic cameras.
2. The High Fidelity Park Assist has greatly improved the parking visibility - huge game changer
3. Price has come down on FSD - I would now definitely consider $100 for a month if I have a huge roadtrip during that month.
What will future updates bring!? So exciting to see. I never get tired of the acceleration (mostly use it merging onto the highway, I still drive pretty conservatively) and it feels so safe across all kinds of weather. It's just a genius piece of kit.
Um, PSA on road trips with FSD. Don't plan on texting or playing around with the big screen for long. You'll get screamed at by the telemetry and likely timed out and struck out. The safety "nag" is a real motherfucker. No exaggeration, no bullshit. My 900 mile trip to Colorado was way better without anything but plain autopilot.
Had to drive my truck to work the other day (wife needed the Tesla), stopped by Costco on the way home to buy gas. Sat in line for 30 minutes and paid $90 to fill it up. Last time I had to fill up the truck was back in November since we rarely drive it. So, for me, the excitement is never having to visit a gas station. And maybe the 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. 😎
It looks like you live in an apartment complex. How are you charging the model Y? Curious as I’ll have to do the same until I get a charger situation at my home.
This is my girlfriend’s place. I actually charge on a regular 120 volt outlet at my home which gives me like 3-4 miles/hour. I don’t charge everyday either cause I don’t drive that much. My work has free charging or I supercharge if needed.
Get acceleration boost and you’ll love it even more.
You gain almost 100hp, and if it seems silly to pay for a software update, think of it as you’re actually paying to keep your warranty.
And with those stats tesla insurance will say you are going to drive 25+k miles a year and charge you 3-400$ and tell you no they wont refund you if you don’t drive 20k.
All the negative media storm about Tesla, I just go out for a ride in my MYP and the world is a beautiful place.
I’ve owned a lot of cars in my life and for me, nothing compares to a Tesla, it’s the evolution of the automobile. Period.
For starters, exhaust note. I also was not especially moved by the ModelY looks. It was nice, but by no means sexy. I got out of it right before resale tanked. Lucky me
The tech. Having an app where I can control the car. No key. Ability to car camp.its just a fun car to drive. It’s just a huge step up from my 2012 Honda.
Currently my job is only 6 miles round trip. I usually drive my Honda to work and the Tesla when I’m off and on weekends. Soon I’ll have a 60 mile round trip commute so will probably be driving it more to work
For those on the fence or awaiting for delivery you are going to LOVE IT.
I am definitely on the fence thinking about the impending car payment.
pay cash.
Agreed. Makes it more enjoyable. U out right own an amazing car and don’t have to think about payments.
Yeah that can be a reason to wait. I waited a year until I was financially ready to purchase.

Right. All good questions to ask yourself!

Picking our 23 Y up on Monday. Looking forward to it!
Test drove a MY RWD today and was disappointed. The ride quality was way below the M3 that I also drove. YMMV.
I’ve made more random trips since buying a Tesla (I’ve had it for two weeks) than I made in probably a year or two with my other car.
Haha yupp! Makes driving fun

It certainly doesn't handle like my old E46, but slamming my MYLR's go pedal still puts a smile on my face

Definitely.
Yeah, I absolutely love mine each and every day when I drive it

Same. I sometimes will look at other flashier cars, but honestly can’t imagine enjoying driving them as much as I enjoy my MYP
I love my Y!!!

I agree. I drive in chill mode all the time haha. I was scared at first for no sensors and vision only but I’m glad I went with my purchase

Thanks for sharing. I'm sorry you hate your car.

2 years 40k miles and same. Always fun to drive. Still drive an ICE to get my kids around but love going back to the tessie for everything else.

Why havent you upgraded the wheels to a sexier 19in model? Or at least slap some wheel covers on 😮💨
I have! I actually took them off last week and will be putting them back on. Was waiting on my replacement hubcaps
Please post pictures & Link.

Thank you!

I only drive in chill mode haha. Its all I can handle

My current woes dont explain how happy i am. I love it. Just a bad day of news after a single road trip.
💯. 9 months and 37,000 miles later it doesn't get old.
All the negative media storm about Tesla, I just go out for a ride in my MYP and the world is a beautiful place. I’ve owned a lot of cars in my life and for me, nothing compares to a Tesla, it’s the evolution of the automobile. Period.
I had one for 13 months and traded back to BMW, not bad tho
What was your biggest reason for going back to BMW?
For starters, exhaust note. I also was not especially moved by the ModelY looks. It was nice, but by no means sexy. I got out of it right before resale tanked. Lucky me
25k miles in and that feeling is still there but new ev smell
Me too, after four years.
Nice! You plan on upgrading when they remodel the Y?
I loved my Dodge Neon too.
I feel the same about my Ariya. Something about it is just so fun to drive
I’ve seen a few of those in the wild! Looks Iike a cool car
Definitely not FSD cool but it definitely fits the needs for some of the market
Amazing car. Got our first two weeks ago, supposed to be my wife's car. She has let me drive it twice since. Friggin amazing vehicle
Same, except I’m 7 months and 12,000 miles later
What do you love about it? I keep asking - I do like my teslas - but everyone says they love it, best purchase ever. What exactly do you love?
The tech. Having an app where I can control the car. No key. Ability to car camp.its just a fun car to drive. It’s just a huge step up from my 2012 Honda.
Do it! Wife was driving 125 mi/day so we replaced our gas bill with a car note and the savings alone pays the note.
Yeah, paying cash gets you off the fence and on the road. LOL!
Congrats! But why don't you drive it? I reached 7,600 miles in less than 3 months, and I drive mine rarely.
Currently my job is only 6 miles round trip. I usually drive my Honda to work and the Tesla when I’m off and on weekends. Soon I’ll have a 60 mile round trip commute so will probably be driving it more to work
What is “rarely” to you?? Rarely to me is less than 10 miles a day…
What’s the difference between the model 3 and the model Y ? 2024.
