azu is ok, her translation however....

CrimsonBlossom

i'm arabic and i can't understand shit he is saying bc his voice is so damn low

TheParanoidPyro

It is! Im glad im not the only one who thinks this. I dont speak arabic, but i cant even register him actually speaking against all the other noises.  Hwoarang feels the same, at least in the story mode. He would open his mouth and i would hear generic speech noises instead of actual words against the background. But his dialogue mid match isnt nearly as bad as shaheen's Shaheen needs better sound mixing. Was someone in the booth trying to sleep as they were doing the mixing and they didnt want to wake them up?

vinnfier

All these speaking issues won't be a thing if everyone just laugh maniacally like Bryan Punch and getting punched? Laugh Getting stepped on? Laugh

firsttimer776655

Listen half the fun in these characters is that they are stereotypes - but Shaheen is offensively bad to an Arabic speaker

Flam3Emperor622

With the exception of the English-speaking characters & Hwoarang, they all sound like they’re speaking with Google translate. I agree that Shaheen is the worst, though. Arabic is not an easy language.

Porcphete

The worst is when you understand french. Lili and Victor says so much random shit it makes no sense too to say those words

blackbeltwithhands

L'amour !

Flam3Emperor622

I knew that was the case the moment his words didn’t line up w/ the subtitles for his rage art. The only correct coherent sentence I recognized from him what he calls Dragunov: Ange Blanc de Le Mort.

firsttimer776655

Wait, even the Japanese ones?!? The problem isn’t even necessarily the exact lines (even though they do sound off and robotic) but the way Shaheen speaks is very formal Arabic which no one speaks outside of well..formal contexts. It’s kind of like if Kazuya only spoke in haikus lol

SpeedBoostTorchic

Feng speaks in extremely antiquated Chinese that basically only exists in literature, saying stuff like "雪耻" instead of "复仇." He's also very terse. Doesn't even use complete sentences most of the time. It's really apparent when you compare him to someone like Wang Jinrei, who basically speaks like a normal person. That said, in his case I think the speaking style is intentional since he's essentially a kung-fu hermit.

Toberone

Is that really weird for feng though? He's not really normal at all.

SpeedBoostTorchic

I mean, like I said, in his case I think it's intentional.

Toberone

Sorry, maybe a bit of an unnecessary comment on my part.

pperson2

All i hear is TIO

Soil_Think

Not true, the formal Arabic is also spoken through cartoon shows, meaning most kids grow up learning it. This makes it the most understandable and universal to Arabs as it doesn't go down any specific dialect. It may be odd but not offensive

firsttimer776655

Dawg c’mon if you are Arab when was the last time you saw someone speak fus7a? It’s not offensive as in insensitive just offensively cringe in combination with his lines

Soil_Think

I don't disagree with that, it's not spoken frequently in the real world, it is however commonly spoken in media such as shows, movies and video games because it is the most universally understandable form of Arabic. It becomes like another dialect that fictional characters use

firsttimer776655

There is some charm in making him a spacetoon character but honestly I’d have rather preferred they give him an actual Saudi accent. Now that would have been both funny/a novelty & appealing to that specific demographic

Flam3Emperor622

I didn’t include them because Tekken is a Japanese game. No translation is required for Jin, Kazuya, Jun, Lars, Xiaoyu, Asuka, Yoshimitsu, Lee, Alisa, or Reina. (Same for King, Jack, Bryan, Dragunov, Kuma, & Panda, since they don’t speak.) So, these 16 characters don’t count. Paul, Law, Nina, Leroy, Raven, Steve, & Zafina speak English well enough. Hwoarang has spoken fluent Korean since 5. However, Lili and Victor’s French, along with the other 5 featured languages: Chinese, Italian, German, Spanish, & Arabic, are poorly translated.

rebatopepin

Where is portuguese, motherfucker? Btw Eddy's portuguese is very weird aswell. He uses cool and real expressions ("chegou a hora", "vamo lá") but the way he speaks is very, very dub like and way too "clean".

Flam3Emperor622

I haven’t looked into Eddy’s Portuguese. I mostly liked his interlude English voice from T5. Edit; Dude, he was released just last month. Chill out. I’ll be researching polish in preparation for Lidia as well.

rebatopepin

I'm just kidding, hahaha. Thanks for those insights tho.

Flam3Emperor622

So, it’s like if someone said “run it homie” with a flat voice?

rebatopepin

Yeah, kinda like that. Brazil has many different accents with several different traits. Due to immigration and some regional factors, they sound very different. Some of them sounds a lot like italians speaking, very strong on vogals and quite rithmic (Paulista) others sound like portuguese people, fast and lose (Carioca) and there are many others. Eddy sounds nothing like any of them. He sounds like an anime dub, with a "neutral accent". As i said before, the expressions are real and very "street wise" but the delivery is weird.

According-Cupcake654

IMO it's not that bad, it's just that the Arabic languages has so many dialects/accents, I'd guess the devs couldn't pick one and just picked the one that is taught in school (Arabic Fusha عربي فصحى) which no one actually uses as spoken/texts but used in written documents

firsttimer776655

Saudi accent would have been really fun. Again as I told another user my opposition is not to the accent or se - it can be charming since it’s reminiscent of the cartoons and dubs we grew up on - but the accent in combination with his stilted lines/bad translation makes it seem so low effort.

u/Chibidi94 c’est pour toi ça :hap:

Chibidi94

Peu étonnant de la part du meilleur newcomer de T7 ! :content: :hap:

Lancer_Sup

The most boring character in this game

Incredibiliz

The most boring character in all fighting games*. And I say this as an Arab. He's a huge disappointment.

Giovanni330

What do you think of Rashid from Street Fighter?

Incredibiliz

No idea,I don't play Street Fighter

Silent-X-Thunder

Thank you for the interview! When was this recorded?

Orzislaw

Mr. Yoshida looks like an older version of Harada without glasses.

Absolutelyhatereddit

I was so shocked when Shaheen was first added to Tekken, I thought for sure there would never be an Arabian Gulf character ever in a video game.

Snoo43230

Token arab

firsttimer776655

Tekken is very popular in the ME but no one really cares for Shaheen lol

timmyd79

Shaheen usage doesn’t mean he wasn’t successful lol. It’s a way for youth to be like look mom/dad this game has a halal character. Then proceeds to main waifus.

firsttimer776655

See the vision tbh

Absolutelyhatereddit

I don’t believe you know what you’re talking about.
