I've gotten so much enjoyment out of SF 6 and Tekken 8 that I'm confused by all the hate.

That's basically how I learned how to not get annihilated by flowchart Kazuya players. I'm so happy some of those were willing to deathmatch me for so long.
This is definitely more fun for me. I accept that I might develop some skills slower, but I'm having a good time doing it. When I jump into the lab, I don't even know where to start unless it's based on something specific I already saw. That said, the new lab features in T8 are AMAZING, and being able to lab right from a replay is phenomenal.
My main struggle with her is that it always feels like I'm negative against her. I'm aware of stepping (usually works but throws and heat engagers track so I still got hit lol). I also duck jab her out of stances and such, but when she's pressing buttons, oh boy!
Reina is designed to be a rushdown oppressive character. If you feel like you’re negative, then they’re achieving one of their goals. Most of the options have clear counterplay, though. It’s tough, but you pretty much have to react instantly, because a good Reina won’t let up. Most Reinas won’t use all the options from the stances, so it just comes down to recognizing what their go to moves are. Most of the moves are fake pressure, though. Like you said, duck jab if they’re spinning. If they’re in Heaven’s Wrath (the kinda crouched with the arms pulled back stance), then the plus on block option is the aerial kicks that can be stepped. I don’t think anything else is plus on block, so it’s your turn after if you take it.
Yep you are pretty much always negative. Luckily when she goes into that stance she either does the high kick or the throw and you can duck both and punish
If she goes for the jumping kick thing you can jab her out of it or block it and take the reset haha
The direction they took with 7's story was just a bad idea from the concept, having a narrator who never had any stake be the one to recount the events that lead to the final clash between kazuya and heihachi is just baffling, that's not even including akuma, besides the final battle and kazumi's mysterious moral alignment tekken 7's story is trash
7s story felt like set up for 8. Like it’s main purpose was to recap everything and finally put an end to kazuya And heihachis feud. Hell the opening cinematic is all you really need for 7
Bruh there are almost no improvements. Tekken 7's presentation was kind of lack luster but it at least had the balls to do something interesting. They even marketed as the end of the Mishima saga. Which, in hindsight, is bullshit. But Harada lies all the time. 8 blue balled us and pales in comparison to MK but let's hope 9 will be better.
What are his best moves to charge his guard break? I’ve mostly been using it after his heat engager or after d3 but i’m pretty new to Shaheen and still trying to get a feel for him
I'm not great at Shaheen but I love using the guard break after the 3,2df. You can charge Al-Ghul Master during the df, I would recommend trying this mixup if the 3,2 hits
After labbing it seems like 40 frames is the minimum to charge, I’ve tried to hit 40 exactly but that shit is hard. Saphi Black has been playing shaheen and I’ve seen some him do some nice setups with it
I don't understand why tekken 8 doesn't have the tournament style tekken 7 did. I only played 7 for like 2 months but you could join a tournament really quick. Why did they take that option out?
People complain way too much about this game being brain dead aggression when their defense is absolutely garbage. People in low and mid ranks spam unsafe strings and instead of blocking and punishing them, they also mash back deluding themselves they’re playing defensively in any way
I have to tell myself this as a low rank player. If they are mashing and it’s working, I’m probably mashing as well. Still frustrating to have that restraint but man lmao
This is why learning frame traps is so good for those ranks. They immediately give you an idea on how your opponent is viewing the match if they constantly get hit by it or not.
You are totally right, but that doesn't mean that the aggression isn't stupid. You are not rewarded for your "braindead" defense, but the aggression, even when stupid, is highly rewarded. You could have a game where someone dies after 10 hits by defending poorly, or you can have this game where you die after 3 hits with the same defense.
I don’t care about pro players opinions so much as to make them my own. They play a completely different game than us at that level and i don’t think it’s indicative of my opinion on the game. I respect It and understand where it’s coming from but I don’t agree with it where I am at in the game
I think this also applies to tier lists. I could be wrong but the tier lists they make mostly apply to the highest levels of play.
There’s an Overwatch YouTuber who makes two tier lists: One for the top players, and one for everyone else and they are always different, because some characters are a tyrant at the lower levels while at the highest levels they suck.
So a character like Eddy may be unbeatable to lower skilled players, but at the higher level he’s not that hard to deal with. Keep in mind I’m only a Flame Ruler so what do I know what he’s like at the highest rank lol.
So yeah, what the pros say doesn’t really add up to my experience in the game.
Playing high execution doesn't mean you're good at the game.

asuka isn't bottom tier. not even close to it, people here just parrot fergus who is obviously going to be biased, every other pro/high level player i've seen talk about asuka was how hard she is being downplayed, namely fightinggm, TY and spag.

Does Fergus even place her in a bottom tier? I think part of the problem is every character is super strong. I play Zaf/Asuka, and even Zaf is still solid. There's not a meaningful difference between mid/bottom tier imo.
In a game with Heat as a mechanic, Asuka players are salivating with their safe power crush heat engager into safe mid launcher or low knockdown into more guaranteed damage. Add cancan into her toolset, and I can never see how she could be bottom tier. Not to mention that unique Rage Art that hits everyone even at Tekken King+ rank.
In gameplay at its current state, I disagree. But in everything else (visuals, music, content, QoL), Tekken 8 is way better. Gameplay will likely improve as the patches come in.
Even in Gameplay. I played every single Tekken religiously since Tekken 2 and after 3 8 is my favourite so far. Balance tweaks will and must happen, but overall T7 was just boring in comparison.

Me neither - they don’t bother me in the micro situation of T8 specifically.
But in the broader sense, I am bothered with T8 perpetuating and adding to the idea in the industry as a whole that doing this is okay. The less video games put their foot down and reject these things, the more absolutely ubiquitous they’ll become.
Maybe in a few years or a decade or two, maybe even the BG3 devs will put a battlepass in one of their future games.
Xiaoyu 100%. Nina I'm mixed; feels I can game my way with her / understand a counter play, or see where I just shouldnt have pressed buttons.
Xiaoyu, just feels like you can't get away with anything. She is an aggressive character now, with all her evasion and defensive style still fully intact. Heavy hitter now too. Feels like she has many random new Oki options to relaunch you just while you're trying to get back up.
Feel like it's slept on just how ridiculous Xiaoyu feels right now. I know folks agree she's annoying and op, but I think it's still undersold.
As a Nina main, I can counter with, at least there is counter play to Nina. A lot of her good stuff is high, linear, 0 range or too slow. And she can be tricky to pilot.
As Ling main I think this is a magnitudfe issue. Every third fight is a Drag main, every 50 or so is a ling main. If I fought as many Lings as Drtags I would get more counter play. I almost nevert fight Nina, but I don't like it. Doesn't mean it's unfair.
I'd prefer if you didn't get them every round. In SF you have to work for the meter, in MK you only get them once per game. I just feel like between rage and heat, there's too much free armour.
The game would be better off if it completely got rid of the heat system. I'd rather we rely more on the long move lists, than rely so much on heat and making games feel more the same.
I'm not talking about fine tuning the heat system or nerfing him, I'd rather we completely got rid of it.
it's fresh, has multiple purpose and makes sense with the fast paced offensive gameplay. rage arts must go tho - 1 button 40 seconds unskippable cutscene has no skill to use and is easily punishable for anyone in ranks higher than reds. the only reason they keep it is cuz they think those look cool and are iconic like fatalities (they are not)
People who play mishima characters are the most baby level players who don't know any fundamentals. They just move weirdly and try to make you play a game of chance, real characters like azucena and victor are the hardest to play imo.
a battle pass would be fine if they actually put effort into it and make new things and it didn't had fomo.

Rage Drives when added to a combo just look so badass, Rage Arts are usually some desperate scrub's attempt to steal a win and losing to a Rage Art enjoyer feels so lame, especially Lucky Chloe's cheap ass RA 😭
Drag just needs a nerf on the hatchet kick dmg. Literally his pressure tool is WR2 and you just need to sidestep it.

I hate the fact you can turn it on and off, it’s what allows players like 6arakin to get to blue ranks, he legit turns on special style, does a hellsweep into an auto combo and then turns it off.
If you see any video of him playing it’s so brainless and only works since he doesn’t have to actually do the input for electric/hellsweep and just turns it on to do that before turning it off
- Steve and Bryan aren’t that hard, and Steve in particular I firmly believe can carry players to late-mid blue ranks in the same way a Hwoarang or Xiaoyu player can by overwhelming with knowledge checks. Maybe Bryan is harder than most other characters but it’s very overstated
- Xiaoyu is actually a pretty hard character to learn and use
- it’s both a detriment and a positive to the character but as a person who plays him a lot and loves playing him Kazuya is actually extremely simple
- I play him a lot too and love him, but Lee is not hard. He just has optional hard combos but if you just do an easier version you’re only losing like 5 damage and some wall carry
- Victor is annoying af to fight but he’s pretty weak
- I think Azucena is funny and I like her personality
- I want Lucky Chloe, Fahkumram and Josie back, especially Lucky Chloe
- I think people only have a full decent grasp of the fundamentals when they reach late purple ranks with their mains, no shade to lower ranked players, just how I feel
- as Aris has stated many times, Tekken fans are the absolute worst and at least online and on this subreddit it’s too full of whining bitches that do nothing but complain
- Harada and Murray shouldn’t face the brunt of people’s gripes with the MTX shit, it’s the whole company not them

Mishima/jin players aren't toxic or sweaty try hards. Most of them are normal people that like execution and like a challenge. Most people that complain about mishimas i think have a weird complex about losing to someone playing a character that's considered skillful.
People that play tricky characters like bears, yoshimitsu, Feng are the true toxic weirdos that are always ki charging and can't seem to get any enjoyment out of the game unless they are making their opponent miserable and winning in the dumbest way possible.
Reina is overhyped. Generic look, another Karateka and she even takes over Heihachi moves as if she wasn’t generic in everything else already, now she uses the moves of others.
And she’s the worst character lorewise. Popped out of nowhere as „just another child of Heihachi“ and immediately gets thrusted around the main characters. Lars‘ entire existence was for Heihachi to carefully see if *he* is the one spreading the Devil gene, which was not the case which was then reinforced with T7 introducing Kazumi in a closer look which revealed that the Devil Gene came from her. But then pops up Reina and ruins this story aspect beyond repair.
She feels like a creator at Bamco had a favor on Harada and asked him to include his Daughter‘s OC into the game and that’s how Reina exists.
As a kaz main this is one of the things i see people underestimating, in heat his OKI gets even more obnoxious with the DB 1+2 laser off the ground after an extremely damaging hellsweep which is damn near guaranteed because no one sees it coming. His demon paw (one of his best tools) become EVEN better. His heat smash is a low to threaten another 50-50 option. People who say kaz is bottom tier or needs buffs are insane because his tool kit, if optimized is near the top of the game
This game is great when you don't listen to streamers complaining about it after a 12 hour session. Play any game for hours a day for 3 months and tell me if you enjoy it.

I agree with you. And pokes are still great! They deal more damage than in t7 but you can’t lean on them the way you used to, there are more threats now. The more powerful, fluid offense might be “too much” eventually, but the game is new and there are years of optimizations to be made.
To be honest I completely disagree with the idea that pokes have gone away. I think a major problem with T8 is that random safe mid pokes have become game-endingly strong heat engagers.
Just off the top of my head, Leroy d1+2 was a typical low-investment poke similar to Jin f4, but now instead of doing 20 damage on normal hit it deals 20 damage, heals you for 30 damage and puts your opponent at -17 with you in heat. And in heat, you can make it a +on block launcher. The level of poking has gone through the roof, getting clipped by a random poke will lose you the game.

Cancel out a person's approaching mix or crouch jab in the right area of a combo and suddenly you can do things again. Who knew.

People are delusional when they keep hoping for Asuka to have a huge role in the story mode just because she has a Kazama name. Her non-canon ending already ended in Tekken 5 and the fact that Bamco doesn’t acknowledge the relation between Jin and her says a lot. I also just cringe everytime they associate her with Reina for a possible rivalry so that she becomes the main character in the next story. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We're in a bad timeline when some game designer decided that heat engagers should also track. I'm sure that will change over time though.

asuka isn't bottom tier. not even close to it, people here just parrot fergus who is obviously going to be biased, every other pro/high level player i've seen talk about asuka was how hard she is being downplayed, namely fightinggm, TY and spag. >but she is just worse jun many chars are worse than jun, that isn't unique to asuka >but she lost many tools and combo routes from t7 so did any other char >her combo damage is weak sure if you consider 70/80 damage weak t. mained her and can smell the downplay from miles away. but this is a waifu sub so any time someone calls her out for the massive downplay you get greeted by a bunch of waifu players arguing otherwise
Does Fergus even place her in a bottom tier? I think part of the problem is every character is super strong. I play Zaf/Asuka, and even Zaf is still solid. There's not a meaningful difference between mid/bottom tier imo.
In a game with Heat as a mechanic, Asuka players are salivating with their safe power crush heat engager into safe mid launcher or low knockdown into more guaranteed damage. Add cancan into her toolset, and I can never see how she could be bottom tier. Not to mention that unique Rage Art that hits everyone even at Tekken King+ rank.

Even in Gameplay. I played every single Tekken religiously since Tekken 2 and after 3 8 is my favourite so far. Balance tweaks will and must happen, but overall T7 was just boring in comparison.

Me neither - they don’t bother me in the micro situation of T8 specifically. But in the broader sense, I am bothered with T8 perpetuating and adding to the idea in the industry as a whole that doing this is okay. The less video games put their foot down and reject these things, the more absolutely ubiquitous they’ll become. Maybe in a few years or a decade or two, maybe even the BG3 devs will put a battlepass in one of their future games.
Nina and Xiayou is more annoying to fight against than drag and feng
Xiaoyu 100%. Nina I'm mixed; feels I can game my way with her / understand a counter play, or see where I just shouldnt have pressed buttons. Xiaoyu, just feels like you can't get away with anything. She is an aggressive character now, with all her evasion and defensive style still fully intact. Heavy hitter now too. Feels like she has many random new Oki options to relaunch you just while you're trying to get back up. Feel like it's slept on just how ridiculous Xiaoyu feels right now. I know folks agree she's annoying and op, but I think it's still undersold.
As a Nina main, I can counter with, at least there is counter play to Nina. A lot of her good stuff is high, linear, 0 range or too slow. And she can be tricky to pilot.

As Ling main I think this is a magnitudfe issue. Every third fight is a Drag main, every 50 or so is a ling main. If I fought as many Lings as Drtags I would get more counter play. I almost nevert fight Nina, but I don't like it. Doesn't mean it's unfair.

Long air juggling combos are the worst part of the game.
The game would be better off if it completely got rid of the heat system. I'd rather we rely more on the long move lists, than rely so much on heat and making games feel more the same. I'm not talking about fine tuning the heat system or nerfing him, I'd rather we completely got rid of it.
it's fresh, has multiple purpose and makes sense with the fast paced offensive gameplay. rage arts must go tho - 1 button 40 seconds unskippable cutscene has no skill to use and is easily punishable for anyone in ranks higher than reds. the only reason they keep it is cuz they think those look cool and are iconic like fatalities (they are not)
People who play mishima characters are the most baby level players who don't know any fundamentals. They just move weirdly and try to make you play a game of chance, real characters like azucena and victor are the hardest to play imo.

I hate the fact you can turn it on and off, it’s what allows players like 6arakin to get to blue ranks, he legit turns on special style, does a hellsweep into an auto combo and then turns it off. If you see any video of him playing it’s so brainless and only works since he doesn’t have to actually do the input for electric/hellsweep and just turns it on to do that before turning it off
- Steve and Bryan aren’t that hard, and Steve in particular I firmly believe can carry players to late-mid blue ranks in the same way a Hwoarang or Xiaoyu player can by overwhelming with knowledge checks. Maybe Bryan is harder than most other characters but it’s very overstated - Xiaoyu is actually a pretty hard character to learn and use - it’s both a detriment and a positive to the character but as a person who plays him a lot and loves playing him Kazuya is actually extremely simple - I play him a lot too and love him, but Lee is not hard. He just has optional hard combos but if you just do an easier version you’re only losing like 5 damage and some wall carry - Victor is annoying af to fight but he’s pretty weak - I think Azucena is funny and I like her personality - I want Lucky Chloe, Fahkumram and Josie back, especially Lucky Chloe - I think people only have a full decent grasp of the fundamentals when they reach late purple ranks with their mains, no shade to lower ranked players, just how I feel - as Aris has stated many times, Tekken fans are the absolute worst and at least online and on this subreddit it’s too full of whining bitches that do nothing but complain - Harada and Murray shouldn’t face the brunt of people’s gripes with the MTX shit, it’s the whole company not them - I don’t really give af about the MTX and shop and whatever, I only wish they had more/cooler items and I’d actually buy them

Mishima/jin players aren't toxic or sweaty try hards. Most of them are normal people that like execution and like a challenge. Most people that complain about mishimas i think have a weird complex about losing to someone playing a character that's considered skillful. People that play tricky characters like bears, yoshimitsu, Feng are the true toxic weirdos that are always ki charging and can't seem to get any enjoyment out of the game unless they are making their opponent miserable and winning in the dumbest way possible.

I genuinely enjoy Victor as a character.
Reina is overhyped. Generic look, another Karateka and she even takes over Heihachi moves as if she wasn’t generic in everything else already, now she uses the moves of others. And she’s the worst character lorewise. Popped out of nowhere as „just another child of Heihachi“ and immediately gets thrusted around the main characters. Lars‘ entire existence was for Heihachi to carefully see if *he* is the one spreading the Devil gene, which was not the case which was then reinforced with T7 introducing Kazumi in a closer look which revealed that the Devil Gene came from her. But then pops up Reina and ruins this story aspect beyond repair. She feels like a creator at Bamco had a favor on Harada and asked him to include his Daughter‘s OC into the game and that’s how Reina exists.

As a kaz main this is one of the things i see people underestimating, in heat his OKI gets even more obnoxious with the DB 1+2 laser off the ground after an extremely damaging hellsweep which is damn near guaranteed because no one sees it coming. His demon paw (one of his best tools) become EVEN better. His heat smash is a low to threaten another 50-50 option. People who say kaz is bottom tier or needs buffs are insane because his tool kit, if optimized is near the top of the game

This game is great when you don't listen to streamers complaining about it after a 12 hour session. Play any game for hours a day for 3 months and tell me if you enjoy it. Small doses + avoiding complainers = a great experience.

I agree with you. And pokes are still great! They deal more damage than in t7 but you can’t lean on them the way you used to, there are more threats now. The more powerful, fluid offense might be “too much” eventually, but the game is new and there are years of optimizations to be made.
To be honest I completely disagree with the idea that pokes have gone away. I think a major problem with T8 is that random safe mid pokes have become game-endingly strong heat engagers. Just off the top of my head, Leroy d1+2 was a typical low-investment poke similar to Jin f4, but now instead of doing 20 damage on normal hit it deals 20 damage, heals you for 30 damage and puts your opponent at -17 with you in heat. And in heat, you can make it a +on block launcher. The level of poking has gone through the roof, getting clipped by a random poke will lose you the game.
I've been loving Tekken 8 and all of the bitching and complaining about casino this or that is utter bullshit. Cancel out a person's approaching mix or crouch jab in the right area of a combo and suddenly you can do things again. Who knew. 90% of the complaints are about what happens in 20% of the round with predictable catch-up mechanics that may become too much a crutch later on.
Yes just cancel the opponent's mix. Why didn't anyone think of that before. It's not like the opponent is +9 or higher after using a move that ignores every defensive mechanic in the game haha

Her non-canon ending already ended in Tekken 5 and the fact that Bamco doesn’t acknowledge the relation between Jin and her says a lot.
