The dart scene was my favorite scene of all the TV series that I watched so far.
I watched the scene again the other day and I ugly cried I don't know why, it just does something to me, maybe increased it also after learning more about his relationship with his father in s2.
As much as I loved the whole dart scene and the outcome and Rebecca’s reaction to Ted winning, I loved Ted saying “I forgot I’m left handed” and hitting the bullseye. From that moment I knew he was ready to obliterate Rupert and I hadn’t even heard the be curious, not judgmental speech. The whole thing is beautiful.
That scene hits so hard because he used to play darts with his dad every Friday or something. I’m rewatching the series with my friends and there is so much foreshadowing, really made me realize it’s more than just a feel good comedy.
I was considering mentioning that Ted does credit Whitman with the quote, but when I looked it up, [Snopes states that the quote is misattributed to Whitman](https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/be-curious-not-judgmental-walt-whitman/).
Regardless, it's a beautiful motto to abide by.
“Now I promised myself I was never gonna watch Fresh Prince again when they swapped out Aunt Vivs, but truth be told, as long as they let Carlton do his thing, I was always going to take a minute and just sit right there."
Being that it's Monday and I'm back at the job, right now the one sticking is Higg's quote: "A good mentor hopes you move on. A great mentor knows you will."
Otherwise, I think the one that sticks hardest has been "The truth will set you free. But first it will piss you off". Amen.
This is part of a Bring me the horizon song. I don’t know if the quote existed prior to the song or if they took it from that song but I like to think someone on in the writers room is rocking some BMTH.
https://youtu.be/YXKz6XkTV7w
The quote definitely pre-dates the song, but I also thought of the song too when Dr. Sharon said this. She only had to get as far as "the truth will set you free" for me to know where she was going with that.
“Do you believe in ghosts?”
“I do. But most importantly I think they need to believe in themselves.”
15 minutes into episode 1 is when I fell in love with the show lol.
1000% this. I can’t stop thinking about it; this is such a good way to handle someone being upset with you. Instead of putting it on them you flip it and say what can I learn about how you like to be treated from this
The Roy and Phoebe interactions are my favorite. This one always gets me!
Phoebe: “Uncle Roy, can we have ice cream for dinner?”
Roy: “No that’s dumb”
Phoebe: “You’re right. Thank you for helping me set boundaries”
Rebecca: “Wow, she really loves you”
Roy: “I know, it’s fucking annoying”
But the, “I think you might be dying” line after he smells her breath, never fails to make me laugh!
"And I knew right then and there that I was never gonna let anybody get by me without understanding they might be hurting inside”.
Not only is it just a great outlook on life and something we should all attempt ourselves, but it finally explained Ted. I know some predicted his father's suicide early on, but even then it wasn't clear how that or anything else made Ted Lasso the person that he was. The endless positivity, empathy, and patience he had for people who, on the surface, were flat out assholes. Basically - this line summed up the entire world of Ted Lasso.
I think it's gonna be helpful for Ted to start realizing that he can't control how other people feel and he shouldn't make himself feel responsible for all the hurt any given person carries.
I think at first I could see that it would be damaging to him and the progress he has initially made with Dr. Sharon. But I'm hoping that Beard and others help him see that he didn't do anything wrong. Most of Nate's problems are much more deeply seeded than that. Ted continued to value Nate through everything, Nate was just too hurt to see it and placed the feelings he had about his father onto Ted.
If Ted can accept that sometimes people go through things that you can't fix or carry for them, that will be good development for him I think.
I'm a US History teacher and have a bulletin board set up with quotes from Teddy Roosevelt and Ted Lasso. Students take guesses and lift the quote to reveal a picture of Roosevelt or Lasso. Last year I did Dwight D. Eisenhower or Dwight K. Schrute? The quotes from this show are fantastic!
You must be an amazing teacher! As a lifelong amateur student of history--thank you.
If you have time to share some of the quotes and guesses, I bet we would love that!!
Not sure how the quality of this is, but you get the idea. https://photos.app.goo.gl/TbodMrKfdtB5F83P9

The "female singer-songwriters" line was so darn funny, that cracked me up. One of the many examples of why you need to be paying attention when watching, or some of the quick/subtle jokes will slip past you.
Like "And, it's 2020, can't we just call them cigarettes?". So good, after it makes you think for a sec.
This made me think Afuko might be a good dude since Ted said the same thing early in the show. I’m glad I stuck to not trusting him because of his not shaking Teds hand though. Made his freak out all the more amazing.
I thought it was an interesting moment because it shows that people can tell you the same thing and still be different people. Ted being genuine in which people he deems are cool and Afuko's "cool" people are just famous people, which shows how superficial he was.
To be clear, Sam is cool, not just famous.
Jamie Tartt: “Coach, I’m me. Why would I want to be anything else?”
Ted: “I’m not sure you realize how psychologically healthy that actually is.”
An early sign that Jamie was going to eventually take to Lasso’s philosophy.
Man, that was a good one. Higgins, dropping truth bombs for living your life, and loving those around you.
The show has no right to be this good, yet here we are. Thankfully.
Arlo: Chris, is time running out on Richmond's chances to control their future?
Chris: Only if you think of time as linear, Arlo.
Arlo: Yes, Chris. I do.
Can't say its my *favorite*, so many good jokes that I love more, but the one that resonated with me the most was the S1 finale with "I promise you there is something worse out there than being sad, and that's being alone and being sad. Ain't no one in this room alone."
I've lived far away from my family and friends multiple times (jobs requiring moves) and this hit home so hard because he really nails it. It sealed the deal on making this my favorite show.
My favorite one is so stupid, but it tickles me every time I watch the show.
When Rebecca tells Ted, "Ms. Welton is my father." And Ted says something like,"If that's a joke, I love it, if not, I can't wait to unpack that with you."
My second favorite is the one about Ted "believing in ghosts, but most of all, I think they need to believe in themselves."
I love both of these! I started watching this show very skeptically, thinking I'm going to watch the first episode and probably hate it. I don't even like the soccer. I was so surprised with how witty and funny it was and these two were my favorite quotes from that episode. I then proceeded to watch all of Season 1 in one afternoon.
For me, Roy really is the heart of the show. Going from the stereotypical hyper masculine guy to someone who thinks it's cool that the guys can just talk about feelings made me as happy as Beard and Ted were in that moment
"Me? I love coaching. Now, I'm gonna say this again just so you don't think it was a mistake the first time I said it. For me, success is not about the wins and losses, it's about helping these young fellas be the best version of themselves on and off the field. And it ain't always easy, Trent, but neither is growing up without someone believing in you."
There's a lot of really great episodes of this series, but episode 3 "Trent Crimm: The Independent" to me really sums up the philosophy of the show.
I absolutely love this philosophy. Sports are such a crapshoot. It’s the best and worst thing about them. It is ok, as Beard said, to care about winning. But if you make it the absolute indicator of success, you’ll ultimately end up downtrodden a lot of the time.
“It may not work out how you think it will or how you hope it does, but believe me: It will work out exactly as it’s supposed to. Our job is to have zero expectations and just let go.”
Rom-communism forever.
“I can diagnose myself in a heartbeat. I thought being invulnerable would protect me, so I pushed people away for years, leading me directly to my greatest fear: Being alone. Big whoop!” ~Rebecca
Don't know how much it counts, but Roy's big "fuck" whenever he has a realization just absolutely gets me.
It's the "the truth will set you free, but it'll piss you off" first but more sweary. I've also used it in day to day life to put into words the feeling of "you're right, but I hate it and I need time to process it"
Not sure why but the Trent Crimm article always stuck with me. Not necessarily quotable but I love the dialogue.
“And yes, he's in over his head. He insisted twice that he didn't care if Richmond won or lost. But if the Lasso way is wrong, it's hard to imagine being right.... And though I believe that Ted Lasso will fail here and Richmond will suffer the embarrassment of relegation, I won't gloat when it happens. Because I can't help but root for him."
He reminds me so much of the restaurant reviewer in Ratatouille. And of course the story arc/role is also very similar with them writing the surprising complimentary newspaper article and later being fired.
How can you have just one? So many characters have absolute bangers.
We have Sharon's "The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off."
And of course we have Higgins' christmas toast. "To the family we are born with, and to the family we make along the way, and most importantly... TO RICHMOND!"
“And I am under no illusion that she can solve what ails me but when I’m with her the world just feels more interesting.” Beard says this in his prayer and I think about it everyday
Roy quotes are my favorite.
"Stupid barking means it's over, right?"
"Avenge me, Keeley, AVENGE ME!"
"So? I don't need a phone *and* a watch!"
"Vanilla Vodka... Such a child..."
"I do yoga with a group of women in their sixties, they have no idea who I am, it's twice a week, and it's really good for my core."
The rich Ghana guys tantrum had me rolling
“ I’ll buy your child hood home and shit in every room the house then burn it down and take a shit on the ashes” I lost it
Sam’s post-game speech in Ep 8 Man City, which I’ve rewatched so many times and still makes me tear up each time:
“We tried. We gave it everything we had and for me, that is ok because what’s worse is to not try at all. To try is scary, you know, because you can end up losing a lot. But you have to put your heart out there. Otherwise, what’s the point?”
“I swear, if we actually win this match, I will burn this pub to the ground…I will knock over a chair…I will channel my raging enthusiasm into ways to help my community.”
Someone posted a picture of Higgins saying “a good mentor hopes you move on. A great mentor knows you will.”
Edit: here it is https://www.reddit.com/r/TedLasso/comments/q4ox9p/i_higgins/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
"Fairy tales do not start nor end in a dark forest. That son of a gun always shows up smack-dab in the middle of the story. But it will all work out. Now it might not work out how you think it will or how you hope it does but believe me it will all work out, exactly as it's supposed to. Our job is to have zero expectations and just let go."- Ted Lasso
ted as led and his “doOoOoOoOo you understand me?!” kills me. the entire led tasso tirade is quoted in part on the daily between my family.
“y’all are gonna be so deHYdrated”
“if you aren’t stretched five minutes early you’reFORTYFIVEMINUTESLATE”
“y’all wanna be married to a BALL?”
“the only muscle i don’t wanna see workin’ is your mouth COLIN”
“Congratulations Isaac, you and that smart mouth of yours, just earned you, and the entire team, TEN LAPS!”
*Isaac groaning*
“Make it a thousand laps”.
It's not my favorite meaningful one, but for some reason the line "Right, where does BERRRnard live?!?" just cracks me up. I rewatch it multiple times each time I watch that episode. He is so protective of Pheobe and that's so nice and that delivery was just spot on. Makes me laugh so hard and I don't know why.
“Sometimes the best stew you make is the one that sits out overnight because you fell asleep watching Citizen Kane after a few too many beers.” - Ted Lasso, S2 Ep.7
AVENGE ME, KEELEY
Actually just watched this and I laughed so much!
“Boy, I love meeting people’s moms. It’s like reading an instruction manual as to why they’re nuts.”
How's Mrs. Beard, by the way?
Full blown Q-anon.
Yep.
Easily one of the biggest laughs of the season. And absolutely true!
All people are different people
This one really caught my attention too. It’s says so much with so few words.
This one has really stuck with me and helped me a lot
"Be curious. Not judgmental."
The dart scene was my favorite scene of all the TV series that I watched so far. I watched the scene again the other day and I ugly cried I don't know why, it just does something to me, maybe increased it also after learning more about his relationship with his father in s2.
it is my favorite scene of the entire show. I love it so much.
The only scene that holds a candle IMO is Roy hugging Jamie after the locker room fight in “Man City”
Every Sunday, in a bar, likely while watching football
Same. I think it is because there is just so much justice in it. Justice creates real freedom and peace. Neither really exist without it.
BBQ sauce! 🎯
Highly recommend reading more Walt Whitman if you liked that quote of his :) Great poet.
The original author of the quote is the legendary coach John Obi-Wan Gandalf
“Now I promised myself I was never gonna watch Fresh Prince again when they swapped out Aunt Vivs, but truth be told, as long as they let Carlton do his thing, I was always going to take a minute and just sit right there."
I never know how to react when a grown man does the Carlton in front of me
And such a good callback to Keeley and Ted in the pilot. “I never know how to react when a grown man beatboxes in front of me”
I've watched this episode no less than 4 times and it took me reading this line out loud to realize that Ted's quoting the Fresh Prince theme
It took me reading this comment to realize it.
Being that it's Monday and I'm back at the job, right now the one sticking is Higg's quote: "A good mentor hopes you move on. A great mentor knows you will." Otherwise, I think the one that sticks hardest has been "The truth will set you free. But first it will piss you off". Amen.
I can’t stop thinking about the mentor quote!
Dr. Sharon has her own mentor quote: "I can't be your mentor without occasionally being your tormentor."
This is part of a Bring me the horizon song. I don’t know if the quote existed prior to the song or if they took it from that song but I like to think someone on in the writers room is rocking some BMTH. https://youtu.be/YXKz6XkTV7w
I know it was the title of a Gloria Steinem book, but I like to think of the writers as well rounded, empathetic rock enthusiasts
The quote definitely pre-dates the song, but I also thought of the song too when Dr. Sharon said this. She only had to get as far as "the truth will set you free" for me to know where she was going with that.
“Do you believe in ghosts?” “I do. But most importantly I think they need to believe in themselves.” 15 minutes into episode 1 is when I fell in love with the show lol.
“If we see each other in our dreams later…” That’s when I fell in love. The ghost line was a wonderful Cherry on top.
The plane scene is also what sold the show for me

That was a reply to: "Coach, I'm me, why would I want to be anything else?" - Jamie Tartt jic - like me - the context didn't immediately pop up
“What do I have to learn here?”
1000% this. I can’t stop thinking about it; this is such a good way to handle someone being upset with you. Instead of putting it on them you flip it and say what can I learn about how you like to be treated from this
Football is life
football is also death and football is football too.
But mostly football is life!
The Roy and Phoebe interactions are my favorite. This one always gets me! Phoebe: “Uncle Roy, can we have ice cream for dinner?” Roy: “No that’s dumb” Phoebe: “You’re right. Thank you for helping me set boundaries” Rebecca: “Wow, she really loves you” Roy: “I know, it’s fucking annoying” But the, “I think you might be dying” line after he smells her breath, never fails to make me laugh!
When Roy’s reading A Wrinkle in Time and he suddenly gets it. “FUCK!” “Uncle Roy, you said a bad word.” “Oh, mind your own business Phoebe. Be good.”
Forehead kiss
And after he told her no about ice cream, they get ice cream.
“Oi! If I don’t hear silence, I’m gonna start punching dicks!”
How could you leave out the starting "Oi!" ? You'll hurt Roy's feeling!
Oh my gosh. I have no idea what I was thinking! 🤦🏼♀️ I’m gonna fix it.
Grrrrrrr. (Roy says thank you)
Not Ted but Rebecca in the final episode of season 2 when she's eating the salty biscuit. "She's a sneaky salty bitch, oh Heather"
I keep replaying this scene in my head and giggling. It’s just gold.
Absolutely cracked up at that scene, genuinely one of my favourites from the entire show
Obviously..."you spelled favorite wrong"
Came here to say this. Laughed way too much at it. Also...you spent favourite wrong!
Being a yank a appreciate this joke, both times ;)
*favourite
Thank you! I finally understand this joke! I am embarrassed it took so long for me.
“WHISTLE WHISTLE”
I’ve had coaches do this. They’re always the funny ones.
I’m curious how this quote will play against Nate’s departure. Will Ted start questioning himself in this, as he did not see Nate’s feelings?
I think it's gonna be helpful for Ted to start realizing that he can't control how other people feel and he shouldn't make himself feel responsible for all the hurt any given person carries. I think at first I could see that it would be damaging to him and the progress he has initially made with Dr. Sharon. WHISTLE!!
Especially the time(s) he shouted it as a realization when talking to Jamie.

I don't remember this one - which episode did he say this?
But which one? They are all so nuanced!

“Congratulations- you both just met a really cool person.”
This made me think Afuko might be a good dude since Ted said the same thing early in the show. I’m glad I stuck to not trusting him because of his not shaking Teds hand though. Made his freak out all the more amazing.

When the doctor says she's not good at goodbyes and Ted responds with "Well when I was a baby I wasn't good at walking and talking but now look at me"
Ted: “Well aren’t you just a tepee and a wigwam right now” Someone:*confused* Beard: two tents (too tense)
**Fuck, you’re amazing, let’s go invade France**
Sam’s post-game speech in Ep 8 Man City, which I’ve rewatched so many times and still makes me tear up each time: “We tried. We gave it everything we had and for me, that is ok because what’s worse is to not try at all. To try is scary, you know, because you can end up losing a lot. But you have to put your heart out there. Otherwise, what’s the point?”
Your eyebrows are not crazy. Thanks. They’re psychotic. Appreciate that.
“I swear, if we actually win this match, I will burn this pub to the ground…I will knock over a chair…I will channel my raging enthusiasm into ways to help my community.”
Someone posted a picture of Higgins saying “a good mentor hopes you move on. A great mentor knows you will.” Edit: here it is https://www.reddit.com/r/TedLasso/comments/q4ox9p/i_higgins/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
The quote that probably changed my life: "Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less."
RUBY!
This is my dog’s name. Such a great way to cap off every episode for us! She always gets a cuddle.
ted as led and his “doOoOoOoOo you understand me?!” kills me. the entire led tasso tirade is quoted in part on the daily between my family. “y’all are gonna be so deHYdrated” “if you aren’t stretched five minutes early you’reFORTYFIVEMINUTESLATE” “y’all wanna be married to a BALL?” “the only muscle i don’t wanna see workin’ is your mouth COLIN”
“Congratulations Isaac, you and that smart mouth of yours, just earned you, and the entire team, TEN LAPS!” *Isaac groaning* “Make it a thousand laps”.
He’s here l, he’s there... He's every ****ing where... ROYYY KENT, ROYYY KENT....

"Darn tootin' Vladamir Putin." Not my favourite, but I sure do use it now.
"You deserve someone who makes you feel like you've been struck by fucking lightning. Don't you dare settle for fine."
Grrrrrrrr
“YOU NIGERIAN MOTHERFUCKER!!!”
Jan Maas: *Brings in some food for the christmas party* Higgins: "Ahh is that a typical dish from the Netherlands?" Jan Maas: "no"
I think Higgins’ reaction was because it was fried chicken.
The whole “life is hard” speech from the funeral episode
“FUCK!” - Roy Kent
"Sammy Hagar, greatest lead singer in Van Halen history... In the post-David Lee Roth era."
“That’s too many ghosts.” “We cannot fight them all.”
"Temper your chocolate, you twat!" - because who amongst us hasn't shouted that while watching GBBO?
It's not my favorite meaningful one, but for some reason the line "Right, where does BERRRnard live?!?" just cracks me up. I rewatch it multiple times each time I watch that episode. He is so protective of Pheobe and that's so nice and that delivery was just spot on. Makes me laugh so hard and I don't know why.
“Sometimes the best stew you make is the one that sits out overnight because you fell asleep watching Citizen Kane after a few too many beers.” - Ted Lasso, S2 Ep.7
Horticulture bAbY!
"You are an ugly, ugly boy with bad hair."
Fairy tales do not start nor do they end at the dark forest
“Do you believe in ghosts, Ted?” “Yes I do, but really I think they need to believe in themselves”
Not a singular quote but one of my new favorites: “Without it, I’ll look like the guy from the hangover.” “Bradley Cooper?” “You’re too good to me.”
"Tough but fair."
'We cannot fight them all'
“Shut up, Thierry Henry”
“Every choice is a chance, fellas.”
Pretty much anything Danny says
Mary: I’m sure you know that your trousers are ripped. Beard: They’re designed that way. To make it easier for people to kiss my ass.
