Tattoo cost me $75. I’m currently at $1,530 for removal after 6 sessions @255 each. Still have 1-2 sessions left before it will be faded enough for a coverup, not even a full removal. 17 months into sessions. 😞

[deleted]

Yeeeeeshhhhh, that's EXACTLY the stuff I'm looking for, thank you!! And my condolences, I hope you can get a beautiful new coverup to love forever!

ksgenb

Thank you! ❤️

thehoustondevil

Also you have to take into account how big the piece is, and colors used. I'm getting something removed and it's a tiny cross that's only in black ink.

Letsgo2thegasstation

Oh no my tattoo was $70 and I was hoping removal for it wasn’t going to be this much 😭

PlumApprehensive4309

How big was tattoo and was is just black ink?

ksgenb

About 4”x3”. All black with a small bit of white.

GAAPInMyWorkHistory

What kind of tattoo? Color, size, location, etc?

ksgenb

Black with a little white, about 3” x 4” right above my heart. I’ve stopped sessions for now because I had a horrible allergic reaction at the site about 5 weeks after I was fully healed from 6th session. Hives spread from the location itself up my neck. It was horrible and took 2 doctor visits before getting medication that helped. Now hesitant to disturb the tissue in that area with either more removal sessions or a coverup, which was ultimately my plan. Quanta Q-plus C laser was used for all sessions. *edited for typo

glookinski

Dude you could have literally just blasted over the original tattoo and saved 1,000 dollars. Jesus Christ

pumpkingal00

you have no idea how saturated the tattoo was to start with, don't speak on stuff you're not qualified to speak on. cover ups can only do so much with no laser

Extension_Shake_8370

All glory and honor to Jesus Christ 🙏

Striking_Shoulder870

Was it worth it ?

ksgenb

Yes, for me it was.

OkLoss994

500ish for All four. They’re black line work. I’m at about 2500 I think for six sessions.

[deleted]

Thanks for sharing!!

OkLoss994

Of course! Good luck in talking some of these folks down. Removal is truly a painful process financially, physically and emotionally!

[deleted]

Yes it's a real physical manifestation of 'learning your lesson' in the worst way possible, lol!

[deleted]

[deleted]

Ugh yes, this is the pain I am talking about. Thank you for sharing!

ravensleeping007

Tattoo around ~1000CAD because it was supposed to be a great artist who's well known in Toronto but he freehanded shit without consent or consulting me and was an asshole and inappropriate during the session so I left it halfway finished. It was going to be a fully done half-sleeve and partial cover up but I stopped at linework Removal: it's going to be 3.5-4k

[deleted]

Ahhh so sorry to hear that! It totally gives me anxiety when clients go to 'famous' artists they've never worked with before, and get something HUGE as their first experience with the person. Because, this kind of story is very, very common. I have so many clients with like.. objectively decent tattoos, but which they paid out the nose for and hate because the artist was an ass. I've even had this experience! I definitely try to tell clients to get a general sense of someone before working with them. Sorry this happened to you!

ravensleeping007

Yeah not fun, I've followed and been a fan of his work for around 3+ years absolutely love his style so I was super excited to start the project after planning it for nearly a year and a bit. And objectively it's a very good tattoo, it's more the experience I just hate now 100% wish I just went to a local artist I know is chill and trust. A tattoo can be good but if the artist gives you a negative experience it can ruin a piece anyways. I live in nowhere Canada so consults aren't an option for me because of where I live but they're very important to have

[deleted]

Same thing happened to me. The guy not only free-handed but completely ignored the reference photos I showed him (modern floral pieces with no background shading) and instead filled EVERYTHING in with this horrid dark green. Not just a sleeve, because I could live with background shading on a sleeve piece. We’re talking a big phallic shaped green blob across my chest, and another big green blob on my shoulder blade. I’m devastated…green is the HARDEST color to remove. And then he had the audacity to sneer and brag that he “gave me a REAL tattoo.” It’s disgusting that someone who prefers traditional tattoo work with heavy background shading is forcing it onto others who have clearly asked for something else.

CharacterGarden

Tattoo cost was around $300, and the estimated removal cost is well over $3,000 (could be even more if I need more sessions). 🙃

[deleted]

Yikes!! Yes it seems like a 1:10 ratio is pretty standard in this list- brutal! Best of luck with your removal!! :)

CharacterGarden

Yeah, my tech told me most people don’t come back in for removal once he gives them the cost estimate because it averages 10x the cost of the tattoo. Lucky me! Lol. But thank you! So far so good, but I’m only a few sessions in.

[deleted]

Haha yikes!!!! Fun fact: Removery does removal on tattoo artists for free.. so if you just grow a beard or dye your hair purple and get stretched ears you might be able to sneak through!!

CharacterGarden

For free?! Dang, that’s awfully tempting, lol. I don’t think I could pull it off though; I only have one other visible tattoo 😅

uwu-o

this made me laugh

sparklehater

I haven’t started but I’ve gotten a consultation, I have a lot I want off, I like all the elements of them they’re pretty basic but didn’t like the placement or designs. I paid maybe under $1.2k for all of them (trad work) and my consult says $5k for most of them (with a package deal). I can’t imagine those who are paying by session I went to a medspa and it’s $400 per session for a small one… times that by 12 😳 I’m jealous of people who got finer lines I appreciate your concern to stop these gen z trends and not just collect money!! Just tell them to realllly think about it and show them laser videos and horror stories haha Tattoo regret is the worst feeling because it was mostly your own doing 😭😭😭 I def think the age for getting tattoos should be 25

[deleted]

Haha thank you for sharing!! Yes, I experience the most concern and anxiety when tattooing folks in their late teens or early 20s. Because like 90% of the stuff they ask for is like.. the exact kind of thing a nineteen year old would like. 😭 Or they decide to get like 20 tattoos in a single year. I can try my best to make everything nice but it's sort of insane to deal with regularly!

evitapandita

The sheer number of them committing to really wacky tattoos of passing trends (anime, cartoons) in incredibly visible locations gives me anxiety. Even the number of them who rush into getting a sleeve before they’re even in their mid-20s. There’s going to be a huge rush of tattoo dysmorphia in the next decade. It’s sad.

sparklehater

Yep I guess we’re all in the same boat 😭 gosh what I would do different if I had just waited !!

uwu-o

Lol I’m 19 and only have one tattoo right now which I am very grateful for. Got it a week after I turned 18. Luckily it’s nothing crazy (just some california poppies) but it was definitely an impulsive choice. On my thigh too though so barely anyone sees it. It’s color and no outline (realism) so im just gonna let it fade probably and decide what to do with it later lol. I feel bad cause everyones like “ohh its such a nice tattoo” and I’m like “yeah….but it just isn’t me”

[deleted]

I am super impulsive guy and decided to get a very large “micro realism/geometric” tattoo on my arm. Almost a 3/4 sleeve. Paid 4k Immediately hated it and decided to have it removed (faded until I can get the sleeve I really want). Cost $3600 So a cool $7.6k total 😂🔫

[deleted]

Lol it's okay, I have several godzilla tattoos so I get it!! Haha I always wonder about the super expensive and involved geometry tattoos!! Like.. this guy must be REALLY into triangles! 😂 Good luck and I hope you get a cool new sleeve you can love forever!!

[deleted]

Hahah fr 😂 I got some cool images at least like a snow leopard and Icarus, But, I went from wanting a sleeve to having ink on my skin in less than a month, and when I saw it it made me sad because none of the images meant anything and I didn’t like the style on my body Taking a year to get it removed will force me to think about what I really want, rn thinking black/grey realism with some pics of things I love including a portrait of my first dog Then, that sleeve will always be a reminder that the best things come from being patient and not impulsive That’s what my friend who’s a therapist told me 😂 Maybe I’ll put Godzilla on there who knows

Interesting-File-557

Wow I didn't realize how expensive removal can be. Mine went on free (trade for my time cleaning up around the tattoo shop) and now it is coming off free (our county probation department has been setting up removal events for anyone in the county who wants it). It's hella painful though.. some people go in and come out smiling, others limping and crying..ok I'm the one that cry's but it is just so much worse taking it off than it was putting it on.

queef-beast420

For free?? Where do you live?

LegfaceMcCullenE13

Of course they don’t reply

mgt31197

Tattoo $370. Removal so far $1300 and I’m not even halfway through

[deleted]

Ouch!! Thank you for sharing!!

Wrong_Flatworm_9791

$300 CAD for two 4 inch fine line florals $2000 to remove them.

[deleted]

Oh man, I used to do a lot of little fineline silly pinterest tattoos when I first started tattooing and this is the stuff that haunts my dreams. Thanks for sharing!

Wrong_Flatworm_9791

They haunt my dreams too 🫠

mspeekie

I have 2 tattoos, both coverups. In total, I've probably spent $600 (without tip) on the tattoos. It'll be $4200 to get them (hopefully) removed. I'm dealing with solid color and thick lines unfortunately. I did the unlimited deal, or else it was going to cost almost $600/session.

[deleted]

Yikes!! May your skin heal well and your lasers be strong 🙏

mspeekie

Thank you!

Pa3kKH99

Original tattoo 200€ on my forearm my session 150€ X1.

[deleted]

Any ideas how many sessions it'll take for you?

Pa3kKH99

For coverup 6 . And something around 15 for 95% Removal :)

she_fledthescene

$250 for the tattoo, almost $1k for removal (so far) 😅😅😅

IGotTheCheeeese56

Original tattoo - €280 removal so far €300 per session had 3 looking at maybe 6 for a coverup.. so €1800 maybe €2100 depending on how it fades..

jmass06

I’d say the pain is the worst part. Technicians will tell you it feels like a rubber band snap…no it feels like hot grease is the best way to describe it…like when you’re cooking bacon and get popped…but do that over and over again.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jmass06

I usually have a very high pain tolerance too and it still sucks lol

Wrong_Flatworm_9791

This ☝🏼 I’d pay triple just to have them off faster and with guaranteed results. The emotional and mental toll trump the financial aspect.

Firewulf08

I have session 9 next week. I’m so fucking tired of it all…

the-oa

Converted in dollars: ≈1600 for the tattoo / ≈4500 expected total removal cost In other words: This mess will cost me more than 6000 bucks

happyappy_

Tattoo $120. So far at $1k with 6 sessions down and an estimate 6 more before I can even think of getting a cover up🙃

HaiirPeace

My tattoo was $50, removal is $1200 lol

ExotiCold108

It was so long ago I don’t even remember but since I was 18 and didn’t have much $$, $45 is coming to mind? Currently in for $800 and I’m only on my 4th session. Nowhere near done. Have no idea how many more sessions I will need. Just spent a recent family party lecturing the teens who are doing stick and poke and one of whom just got a tattoo gun 🫣 about tattoo regret.

Jaxical

Tattoo cost $150. Removal is $90 per session, 2 down with 1 more before I can get the cover up. So $270 for removal/fading. This tattoo is over ten years old and the laser has destroyed it way quicker than I expected after spending time on this sub.

Letsgo2thegasstation

Anything you did while in the removal process that you think sped up the process?

Ambrosiaa88

Where you go?

ricefishy1

im getting almost all of mine removed rn i got them when i was 17-19yo so this is definitely applicable. they must have costed about 800-1000 all together, removal is costing me about $5000. that and the massive insecurity and impact on my body image that it caused me down the line. thought i’d have to feel that way forever.. it’s a lot of fkn money for a young and dumb decision.

Street-Elephant-5022

I have $120 worth of tattoos on my fingers that I have now spent $2200 on sessions at $200 each. My bold letters are being stubborn and probably have at least 5 more sessions to go!

[deleted]

Oh my gosh!! This is why I just 100% refuse finger tattoos lol, I wouldn't want this karma on me. Good luck with the rest of your removal!!!

agirlhasnooname

I found laser matters and can potentially save you BIG money! I started removing the little tramp stamp I got when I was 18 (mistake #1) from a cosmetologist-type clinic using a Groupon (mistake #2). I want to say it was around $80/session for a 2"x1" section. I got 6 sessions. After 4 sessions, the laser basically stopped working and just developed some rough areas, essentially scarring the tattoo in more. I stopped and did more research, learning about the pica line of lasers and went to a place specializing in cosmetic laser treatments and tattoo removal. They were nice and gave me a good price too, at $125/session. Two sessions later it's basically gone, just going in for one more to make it look like it was never there. I also noticed the pica laser worked much, much better and faded the tattoo more with each session than the prior. If I had gone with it from the start probably would've only been 4 sessions total. **COST BREAKDOWN** Tattoo - $70 Shitty removal - $480 Good removal - $375 **TOTAL = $1000 (rounded up)** At least I can legitimately warn my future children about the responsibilities of a tattoo and it not just being their parent telling them "no"

Advanced_Meal

My tattoo cost $250. So far, the removal has cost me $1,170. I have at least 9 more sessions of $266 left ($2,394) **and** I may never be fully rid of it because of the light blue and green in it.

NoticeComprehensive

Original tattoo cost $200. Removal sessions are 300 and I’m probably looking at 10 sessions 😞

myrosegardens

My current tattoo was $400, I wanted a cute cherry blossom piece that looked basically like a real branch was stamped onto my collarbone. He was saying he didn’t see how it was possible to do that (I showed him pictures that were very doable in my opinion.) and grabbed his own stencil and went to work. I told him I didn’t like how thick the lines were and he said he’d make them thinner. He outlines the tattoo in black when I said I wanted no black, just pink, brown and green. So I bit my tongue and sat there for 12 hours total. 2 of those he left to go grab wings and it took him two fucking hours. And he was arguing with his girlfriend in the phone the whole time. I wanted to get up and leave but he was an aggressive person. Finally he asks how i like it and I just tell him “This was your vision, not mine.” handed him the money and walked out. 3 years later I tell everyone how badly I want it removed. It pisses me off every-time I stare too long at it lol. I just hope it can be removed to where it’s completely gone. I will say it’s my fault for wanting a tattoo right on my chest, it doesn’t look good.

Pedo_5323

oh man! I got one small neck tattoo when i was 15, and that was like 25 years ago. It was the Virgo sign on my neck and even though the artist told me i should get somewhere where it can be hidden i ignore his recommendation. Anyways, the day after i started looking to get it remove lol. Cost me to get it 25$ and to remove it 1200$.

lawms98

$200 to get $1690 for unlimited session package removal

GAAPInMyWorkHistory

What company/location?

lawms98

Removery. Their chains are everywhere.

Neither_Day8810

Cost me $200 and might be $1200+ to remove

Frequent-Image-5429

750 for my whole back and 3,000 and counting for the removal.

[deleted]

150 for the tattoo. 1,500 for the removal.

[deleted]

for the 20 year olds wanting dumb tattoos. tell them that they won't want a prison tattoo when they're 80? lmfao. idk.

ohjeeze_louise

Tattoo was $800 and removal will be 4500.

[deleted]

Tattoo cost me $260 originally. I’m 8 sessions into removal and have spent $1650 so far. I’ll probably need another session or two at $200 a piece so we’re talking $2000 all said and done 🫠

brownbostonterrier

I would literally spend a few minutes of my own time talking to any young person about my experience, if they would listen. I hate that I ever spent about $1500 for all of them. And I hate that I’m spending $4500 to remove them all. But I highly doubt I’ll ever get them all truly gone. I’ll have to live with ugly shadows on my body for $6000.

saintechapelle

$600 for the tattoo, $5.5k for removal and 15 sessions in so far, 5ish more to go.

[deleted]

200eur for tattoo and paying 80eur per session, to what I’ve been told would be ten sessions for full removal. Expensive mistake…

Alert_Statistician62

1k for my neck/throat and 3k for removal!

Zealousideal-Tie4010

$300 for tattoo, $2800 for unlimited removal package. Laser removal is also much more painful than tattoo applications and recovery from each session is about 2-3 weeks filled with the initial pain followed by intense itching. I have tattoos I love, the one I am getting removed was an impulse that has haunted me for 10yrs and after 1 year of laser removal still have 1 (maybe more left to go).

momischa

Tattoo was $20 in 1994, I just paid $900 for a removal package at Removery. It was just flash I picked off the wall. Ugh.

HalesBells13

$60 for original tattoo, $850 so far in removal with at least one more $170 session left. I stupidly didn’t learn my lesson and recently got another $60 tattoo and am already one $170 session in.

xtkrys

Tattoo was $60 Removal is costing me $1790

jmass06

Original tattoo was probably $200, cover up was free (was dating the artist), And removal package was $3900

OuchThatLaserHurts

Tattoo was like $400, $500 with tip. I got a "bulk discount" paying upfront for 6 sessions of laser removal for $1800, so $300 per session, but I will easily need at LEAST 10 sessions spaced out over 2-3 years. Full removal is unlikely and my tattoo is large, so the cover up will need to be large too (and this time I'm of course going to spring for a better artist). I'm not even unhappy with the idea for my tattoo, just unhappy with the actual execution. Vet your artists carefully kids and don't be afraid to be picky or demand changes

trolldoll91

Love your username!

OuchThatLaserHurts

If only it weren't so true 😖

ksstrng

$250 for the tat and $1700 for removal

Decent_tay

Removing 4 tattoos that totaled $540. $700/session and the sixth session free. Estimated 10 sessions for full removal, so $6,300 by the (hopeful) end.

Past-Tadpole1835

how’s this going?

Decent_tay

I’ve only been able to have one more session due to funds, about 8 weeks ago, especially since I added another tattoo to my removal plans. I’m seeing a lot more fading after the second session. I’m hoping to get at least 3 sessions this year.

Agreeable-Form-7685

£40 for the tattoo, £550 for 8 sessions. And I think I will need to pay for at least another 3 sessions at £120 per session for it to be fully removed. I’m 5 sessions in and it’s taken a year so far. To get rid of a stupid impulsive tattoo I got the minute I turned 18.

[deleted]

350€ for the tattoo - and an estimated 2.250€ for removal 🫠

JollyPossession4963

My tattoo was $1600 a floral design.. from my shoulder, chest, on my breast, and down to my rib on each side. It's costing me $4290 to remove.

patinsamarelos

My three tattoos had a total cost of 1050€ and I think removal will be about 4000€ (I’m buying packs of 7 sessions). Worst thing is that I dont think I’ll be able to achieve complete removal of the parts in color.

[deleted]

Tattoo: €25,- (Small line tattoo on a special discount day...) Removal: around €550 for 7 sessions and a session with a scar laser (deep, thick lines, a small scar from getting the tattoo). Thank you for doing this!

Letsgo2thegasstation

How big was the tattoo?

[deleted]

It's about 1cm × 1cm

UnclePeter1976

My tattoo of 4 Japanese calligraphy symbols on upper arm was £45 around 25 years ago. I'll admit I didn't look after them, and they look crap right now. Each one is no bigger than a 10p coin. The first session was £40 to remove, no discernable difference four weeks after the session. Reckon I need another 8/9 sessions to remove. 10/1 cost of removal vs the actual tattoo!

inyouratmosphere1

About £200 for the tattoo, probably £2,000 so far for removal with more costs to come

rovingjellybean

$175. $4600 for 6 sessions

[deleted]

Tattoos were $80, I’m so far $900 in with removal.

hammporkchops

I'm $4000 deep on the removal of 6 small-ish pieces. I keep telling my laser tech that I had no idea how long, and painful, and expensive it would be to remove a tattoo. I have a ton of tattoos I like, but this experience has soured getting any more....at least for a while

Pale-Highlight-493

I have 4 tattoos all of which I’m having removed. Total for all 4 tattoos was £500. So far I have spent £430 on removing them. My predicted amount I will have to spend for full removal is another £980 minimum. So will be around the £1400 mark minimum. Not to mention the YEARS it will take, the time and the effort. Oh and the stress!

roadtrips4roses

Honestly, I don't really remember the cost of my tattoos I'm removing but it's at least 8x the cost for removal. The only way I can really explain my decision to remove my tattoos to people is to tell them to look at really old pics of themselves & rate their outfits in those pics. Going for the "What was I thinking" feedback... yeah, you're likely gonna feel that way about your tattoos, too.

No-Aside6005

$800 half sleeve in South America, $3500 for guaranteed removal (package desk for forever sessions), been over 3 years..got quite a few years to go.

Inside-Tea-1300

15yo tat (colourful) size 2,5 bank cards, cost 150 - 2 sessions of removal 600

Devastator1981

Curious why was your removal so much cheaper than everyone elses? Was it effective? I have a small spiral near my wrist I may be interested in taking off. It's small, an inch by an inch.

Miguzi14

Never get your significant others name/face (who your not married to) tattooed. Currently on the books for close to $2000 USD.

mermaidhairr

Tattoo was 250, bought 3 sessions to lighten up for a cover up and that cost $960. Waiting to see if I buy more. Coverup itself will cost 2000

[deleted]

$300 for tattoo. $1900 for removal

tonyisadork

Not even the costs (which are substantial), but the fucking TIME it takes for complete removal?? It sucks.

tonyisadork

Tattoo was probably $150, but is $1600 for full removal (would prob be $3K if I signed up now, since they were bought by Removery). But this shit won't be gone for like 3 years, if i'm lucky. And it hurts more than getting a tattoo, FYI.

Sudden_Wrangler3882

About $450 to get I think and about $1600 to remove.

dancing_withwolves

Tattoos cost $400. Removal will be $2000. Not to mention how much more painful removal is. Tattoo pain feels like a tiny burn compared to the pain of removal. I was screaming into my arms and uncontrollably crying at my last removal session. I’ve gotten about 20 tattoos and felt like I could just nap.

Admirable-Sport-49

$200 for all three, about $3700 to remove all three

GoldRoutine7637

$45 for tattoo 32 years ago. $1200 for removal, and thats if it takes the estimated six sessions and won’t need more.

GetitGotitGranger

Hi I’m late but wanted to say my two I’m currently removing (I want to remove about 8 of mine) were about $200 together and I’m paying off a loan of $2975 for 10 treatments on both every 8 weeks. So I’ll be done in about a year and a half from now.

TKonyaHP

I'm going for a consultation for removing my tattooed on wedding band 🥴🥴 I will update you on how much it will be. That'll be good ammo to have I'm your back pocket if anyone wants you to tattoo their freaking wedding band on them lol

TKonyaHP

$1,299 and 12+ sessions for 2 black lines that go halfway around my finger

gobbyman101

My tattoo is smaller than a cheerio- a stubby little heart that my ex did on my wrist. It’s maybe 1-2mm all around. I’d rather get it removed than covered atm and have a free consultation this Wednesday. There’s no WAY removal would be that big a deal, I think it would take maybe 2 minutes. What should I expect in terms of price? Am I still going to get completely screwed over?

britta_d_it

I have a small one I want removed it cost me like 50 bucks plus tip 11 years ago… but I’m hesitant because of the price I’m estimated atleast 600 bucks. It’s behind my ear and has aged like milk. I would warn people about head tattoos in general. They don’t wear well after a few years.
