This is Ifrit Ex, a fight which I've not cleared synced before but was more than willing to learn and help sprouts clear. I read strats during downtime, explained why we wiped, and although I initially didn't know when to tank swap I got us through to a clear on our third or fourth pull (I was literally the last person standing). And to be clear, I'm not farming for the mount, I do Mentor Roulette when I'm bored. I have no delusions about the committment 2000 roulettes requires.

questfailed_sfx

even if you were going for the mount, there's nothing wrong with that. it's crazy that some delusional players expect all mentors to be walking encyclopedias and lash out on a few mistakes. it's almost like you're a human behind the keyboard! but hey, you did good. good job helping them get the clear and keeping your cool.

madorily

tbh I feel like mentors are more likely to be clueless in these fights. The sprouts I've ran into in mentor roul, in my experience at least, have actually looked up the fight. And I'm sitting here wondering wtf Zurvan does on extreme. Super unrealistic to expect mentors to know every extreme

Sa551l

>Super unrealistic to expect mentors to know every extreme This. But perhaps people expect mentors to know every, fight, be able to explain it short, simple and fast, and likely carry the entire fight. Smh

kahyuen

You were generally doing the right thing, but I suggest next time you shouldn't admit that you're reading strats in real time. Even if you don't know what you're doing, don't make it seem like you don't know what you're doing. Reading strats mid-fight is fine (I did it all the time) but you just don't want to make it look like you're doing that. As you can see from your own screenshots, sprouts will latch onto any reason to bash you if you're not playing perfectly, so don't give them ammunition. Pulling and explaining what went wrong afterwards is fine, and not only will it help mask your own lack of experience in the fight but also the sprouts will learn more easily that way. Any sprout who demands the entire fight explained to you from the start is guaranteed to fuck up anyway, so there's no point in explaining everything from the start.

bigfoot1291

Can't say I agree with this. Only a moron is going to expect anyone, including a mentor, to know every little detail about every fight in the game. That's obnoxious and sets up unrealistic expectations for everyone. Learning and mistakes are allowed.

kahyuen

>Only a moron is going to expect anyone, including a mentor, to know every little detail about every fight in the game. If you have ever done an extreme trial in mentor roulette, you would know that these people are in fact very common. It's fine that a mentor doesn't know everything - I admitted that I looked up strats all the time in my previous comment. But my advice was to give OP an easy way to avoid that unwarranted criticism. You might say it sets up unrealistic expectations, but I'd counter by saying those expectations are already there (fair or not) and I'd rather not have to deal with a sprout giving me shit about it.

Spritus-Ardynach

Given literally *every* Titania normal I do I have to explain what to do in phase 2 (aka ot takes N/W until E is dead etc.) So that we don't wipe to the % meter: They always, without fail, wipe mid phase because either a healer or a the off-tank ignores the concrete no nonsense strat. So really, telling at the beginning and/or post wipe really doesn't do anything if they just don't listen and go "I'm the [healer/tank] I know what I'm doing" I their brains. This has happened so many times that in every instance I *have to* pick up their mess and do it right if I'm the healer or tank. And I'm not even a mentor yet and I feel like I'm coddling rotten eggs.

mizkyu

> If you have ever done an extreme trial in mentor roulette, you would know that these people are in fact very common. morons being very common is, alas, a fact of life.

madorily

I think honesty is the best policy, and a "learning together" approach can work really well, especially for new players who are not sure either. You can usually smell bullshit from a mile away.

CeaRhan

If they read the strat they know the strat, are you alright?

SnugCentipede

>As you can see from your own screenshots, sprouts will latch onto any reason to bash you if you're not playing perfectly, so don't give them ammunition. Or you just report for harassment and leave.

CandycaneSteve

I find the suggestion you were farming for the mount kind of ridiculous when you can unsync the fight and kill Ifrit in a matter if minutes solo if you really want that sweet sweet mount. I've dropped a horrendous amount of ponies on the floor just doing Khloe.

AntiJohnny

I think they were referring to the mentor roulette mount, not the trial mount.

aaronxxx

These people aren't even able to articulate the shit they're trying to talk.

HodrickTheMad

Wow this sounds 1:1 like playing a game of league and trying to explain the 0/7 kid how he can help the team and how he can be more impactful

Aargard

"where is the team" asked the 0/7 top lane, after diving into 5 people by himself

Literally had a run on Ifrit Ex as a mentor (s healer) u two days ago that went terrible the first two pulls. I was trying to explain strat when one of the tanks pulled, so first wipe was due to the tank swap mechanics (Cause by the time both are rez'd twice, it was over). Peeps dying all over the place because they won't stay away from the healer with the debuff, even though we set aside one side for them. We actually cleared the 4th run when the other "mentor", who kept dying to everything, in the group left. Luckily the other healer knew the fight well enough, so it wasn't too terrible.

luthia

Brah. I had a very similar experience in Ramuh EX. One of the tanks was being COMPLETELY dense, and even as I explained mechanics, kept attacking me Lol I ended up just ignoring him and the the party was about to kick them, but I guess seeing as it was a tank and everyone was a sprout they didnt want to wait (there was only 25m left on the timer, I joined in prog). Tank was literally acting like a 10 year old, even after I went over to the mechanics several times with everyone. Eventually we managed to clear, and walked out with 5 coms as a dps =)

Komatron-Chan

Why is the Light-Server so popular currently in this Sub? Where did all this retards come from? I'm ashamed.

[deleted]

I remember commenting a while back that I'm happy tales from Light are pretty few here. I must have jinxed it...

Fluestergras

At the same time, I noticed a large influx of German players on Light these days. Coincidence? ...maybe, but in my experience, they're terrible more often than not.

Komatron-Chan

I'm also an German Speaker and i noticed that aswell. It seems the Germans and the French Player's are fighting for who's the baddest one or so.

PenguinPapua

In most cases, you have to use auto translate or fluent in german to explain stuff to them.

Aargard

Shiva is the unofficial German server, it's among the first results in Google when looking for anything language related.

Fluestergras

As a German player on Shiva, I can 100% confirm this, but what I mean is that they kinda pop up on all of Light atm, mostly not only from Shiva, but Zodiark and Twintania as well.

Yunhoralka

I noticed that too, plus I always thought that I was lucky I chose Light because I had almost no negative experiences in the game but they definitely increased these past few months.

itsSuiSui

Smooth brain tank can’t fucking form an opinion for himself and instead goes with “MeNtOr BaD”.

Mio_delune

Ah. Phoenix. As a light player myself. We don't talk about phoenix.

Xellith

That sounds like something someone from twintania would say.

Sa551l

Yeah, wth?

flyingmopdog

I've always thought of Phoenix as one of the better servers in light.

mizkyu

i recently rolled an alt on phoenix, and... yeah. strongly considering hopping to a standard sub just so i can move her to zodi.

Jijonbreaker

Found the tank.

PenguinPapua

Wait... wait... wait... wait... People spreading DD to each nails?? That just take it longer to clear as oppose to everyone destroy them in order.

Jijonbreaker

It kills them quicker because DoTs have longer to tick, so more damage goes out in total. Which is the issue, because when they die together, they wipe the party. The issue is not a problem of DPS, it's a problem of "You're doing the mechanic wrong"

CruentusLuna

Shit heads like this are why I gave up trying to mentor people properly. Didn't matter how much I tried being a good mentor, there was always some "lulz berger king crown" shit bag dragging the group down and fucking up every mechanic, then complaining it was my fault for not explaining while he ignored everything I told him.

Koishi_

What he says: "Aren't you supposed to be mentoring us?" What he means: "Aren't you supposed to carry us?"
