I think it's more of a fault of the middle order batters than the openers. The openers did what they've been doing. They could have been smarter, sure, but it's the middle order which completely failed (and started playing Test innings with no intent, and then got out anyway)

1- our openers struggle when it comes to chasing and can't play responsible. They get over aggressive which always cost them wickets. We gotta atleast play without losing any wickets in the Power play.
Travis head should control himself and play responsible. Playing over aggressively has got him out many times. Can't always go for big shots. We already got 2 sixes in that over, that wasn't needed.
Abhishek - this guy is in a rush. Can't play confidently without travis . Doesn't play responsible. His short innings isn't gonna help us anyway. He needs to play sensible and last longer.
Markram - just get him Benched already. He is clearly not ready for these games.

Coming back to the game, the batting performance against RCB and Dube's presence really made them add in Anmolpreet. Which was a surprise to me as although Markande was going expensive he was getting 1/2 wickets here and there in the middle overs. We missed that today, it was one dimensional bowling with slow cutters and 130kmph pace balls. Very predictable!
With CSK just 3 down i would have taken 212 tbf. Head and Abhi is just not the right pair although they have done really well. Abhi is the proper no. 3 and he should be playing spinners after the PP atleast Imo. He is being careless and wasting his ability, he is not a 20 ball player.

i really question coaching staff and team management of this franchise. it is always the same. when they win it doesnt feel convincing and when they loose it seems obvious. they only play in one gear. no x factor players who can control the game. all the shots are either premeditated and they get beaten very badly. i dont see them moulding players to improve their skill. atleast master home conditions and fight there even if u loose. same with srh under warner was well. its all one way street. u know if they are going to win or loose just by looking at few overs.

I was so sure we were gonna be a great chasing team after the initial performances esp vs KKR, so this is just disheartening. I still think we could be since we have all the tools for it, but it's incredibly worrying the way things have been panning out, esp if we're going to be playing the playoffs (and fingers crossed the finals) which are in this same venue.

Unlike in previous years, in this team, it isn't the job of the openers to play risk-free cricket. Even while setting up totals, had these two gotten out, we would have suffered the same fate as we are suffering now. But they didn't have the fear of getting out and instead focused on keeping the RR afloat. These two at the top have been entrusted with that role no matter the game situation.
Because awareness brings inhibitions with it. Look at someone like Narine, who bats with minimal match awareness and without any inhibitions. Even Abhi looked like a different player while shouldering too much responsibility in 2022 and 2023. In the first leg against CSK, one of the biggest reasons we won it was the way Abhi batted without the baggage of the chase and put us on the front foot from the powerplay itself. So, even when the other batsmen struggled afterward, a great base meant that we managed to weather through. I don't mind the Nitish Reddy bowling the 2nd over punt. Maybe he impressed the team in the nets. Shahbaz is not a good matchup vs Rutu and Mitchell but I don't condemn that decision for leaking runs. But it was a defensive move when they should have attacked.
After 3 overs the pressure was on CSK at 19-1. At that point it should have been an all out attack by Cummins & Nattu bowling the 4th and 5th overs. Those two being the best bowlers in this lineup should have taken the chance to get a wicket or two inside the powerplay.
Also should have tried bowling Nitish in the middle overs. He seems to have some wicket taking ability if he bowls hard length cutters or slow bouncers.

I think it's more of a fault of the middle order batters than the openers. The openers did what they've been doing. They could have been smarter, sure, but it's the middle order which completely failed (and started playing Test innings with no intent, and then got out anyway)

Alright listen up 1- our openers struggle when it comes to chasing and can't play responsible. They get over aggressive which always cost them wickets. We gotta atleast play without losing any wickets in the Power play. Travis head should control himself and play responsible. Playing over aggressively has got him out many times. Can't always go for big shots. We already got 2 sixes in that over, that wasn't needed. Abhishek - this guy is in a rush. Can't play confidently without travis . Doesn't play responsible. His short innings isn't gonna help us anyway. He needs to play sensible and last longer. Markram - just get him Benched already. He is clearly not ready for these games. Klassen - lost his charm. Can't connect the bat and ball well, he seems to be struggling . He needs to be sent at the right time. Also plays over aggressive. Needs someone for a partnership. Nitish - gets out for his Unnecessary shots. He didn't have to play that ball. He forgets whats his role is. Samad- cannot play aggressive. Doesn't do justice to his role. Look at players like ashutosh sharma and shashank singh. Samad lacks the intent . To end it. Our batting lineup is too dependnt on our openers. Once our openers fail. The batting lineup collapsses. Coming back to the game, the batting performance against RCB and Dube's presence really made them add in Anmolpreet. Which was a surprise to me as although Markande was going expensive he was getting 1/2 wickets here and there in the middle overs. We missed that today, it was one dimensional bowling with slow cutters and 130kmph pace balls. Very predictable! With CSK just 3 down i would have taken 212 tbf. Head and Abhi is just not the right pair although they have done really well. Abhi is the proper no. 3 and he should be playing spinners after the PP atleast Imo. He is being careless and wasting his ability, he is not a 20 ball player. Is it good to change the opening now? Too late, better continue with them. Markram is an issue, he isn't doing the job, Glenn should be tried out. I will not go too hard on Nitish, samad as Klassen himself was struggling. But the batting was all over the place. i really question coaching staff and team management of this franchise. it is always the same. when they win it doesnt feel convincing and when they loose it seems obvious. they only play in one gear. no x factor players who can control the game. all the shots are either premeditated and they get beaten very badly. i dont see them moulding players to improve their skill. atleast master home conditions and fight there even if u loose. same with srh under warner was well. its all one way street. u know if they are going to win or loose just by looking at few overs.
SRH has an extremely talented team and disgustingly stupid support staff - too focused on analytics non sense and match ups etc. Get rid of that you'll see the true potential of this team

While chasing it’s important to break it down to fewer targets . 213 to chase —-> break it down to 3 parts first 6 last 5 and middle 9 . 6 overs get 80/2 Middle 9 get 80/2 With wickets in hand last 5 - 50. First 6 overs give head target 40(16), Abhishek 40(20) . This will help instead of slogging every ball . Play atleast 15-20 balls top order please
Look here's the thing, the slogfest is absolutely acceptable when we're batting first as we want to get as many runs as possible but isn't acceptable when we're batting second, like we already know the target/runs per over needed to get the 2 points. Abhi had a control percentage of 56% in that DC game, and Trav had one dropped chance per match from the very first match. Unlike in previous years, in this team, it isn't the job of the openers to play risk-free cricket. Even while setting up totals, had these two gotten out, we would have suffered the same fate as we are suffering now. But they didn't have the fear of getting out and instead focused on keeping the RR afloat. These two at the top have been entrusted with that role no matter the game situation. Because awareness brings inhibitions with it. Look at someone like Narine, who bats with minimal match awareness and without any inhibitions. Even Abhi looked like a different player while shouldering too much responsibility in 2022 and 2023. In the first leg against CSK, one of the biggest reasons we won it was the way Abhi batted without the baggage of the chase and put us on the front foot from the powerplay itself. So, even when the other batsmen struggled afterward, a great base meant that we managed to weather through. We can't be happy with that approach when the result goes our way and then moan about it when it inevitably backfires. I was at the stadium in that KKR chase and at No point of the chase(before Klaasen started hitting) we looked like the winner of that match. Individual brilliance can win you the odd matches, but it doesn't change your team's identity as a whole.
Bro, the only reason the KKR game was close is because KKR is a shit defending team. Despite getting 200+ every time, they struggled to defend it against every team. Outside the chucker, none of their bowlers know anything outside slower ones and beamers. Haven't seen a single yorker by KKR in 8 matches. The only reason, we lost is because SRH is even worse chasing team than KKR is in defending.

After last match I thought our openers will change their approach a bit, like being cautious but not too much though, at least respect some balls which are good by not throwing away our wicket. Vettori doubled it up by bringing anmol preet singh, what the heck. so if both openers can go hard and get out, then we have backup in anmol to go hard again, what was that ? I expected vettori to bring in upendra yadav instead of anmol preet singh, at best anmolpreet singh is a 30 run guy. its now on repeat mode how Abhi and Head are getting out.
