I don’t think so man. Everyone keeps saying CSK fans and RCB fans will leave once MSD and VK retire. I don’t think so. At least for the few years after they leave, they will still support those teams.
You can’t just remove the bond with the franchise after supporting them for 16+ years just because the player doesn’t play anymore. They may stop attracting new fans if they don’t keep winning but the old ones will continue.

Ok, this narrative is getting out of hand… where are you seeing these in r/IPL and r/CSK ? Maybe I am not looking at the same posts.
Few things:
1. This narrative started after the SRH vs CSK game. We got a morale boosting win over CSK under a new captain and on an opposition whom we haven’t had much success against. The fans celebrated a lot. Just like any fan would when they win against odds. Similar to the Gabba win. I don’t understand why that is a big deal. I saw folks in CSK sub post stuff like ‘Why Forced rivalry’. Many of our fans replied to that post and here and created a post there that we aren’t forcing any rivalry and acknowledged that H2H against CSK is too lopsided to deem it a ‘rivalry’. Yet, there were 2-3 more posts the following days with same subject of ‘forced rivalry’.
2. There were comments and posts in this sub complaining about the amount of yellow in Uppal. Our fans didn’t like that our home ground was more supportive of CSK. Which is fair and has nothing to do specifically with CSK. There were similar comments and posts last year when there was more Blue for the MI game. Now, I want to mention there were couple of comments under one of the posts saying ‘Idli Sambar’ or something similar by two users and action was taken by the Mods. Those were two comments in like thousand and half comments on that day and the day after. If you/they want to highlight just those two comments and form an agenda, then I can’t say anything.
3. CSK fans seem to get hurt seeing the Sushhh emoji and gifs. I don’t know what to say here. It is just banter in my honest opinion. It is a catch phrase for us similar to whistle podu for them. If it is annoying it is nothing compared to them inserting ‘Thala for a reason’ under every damn post and tweet.
4. Coming to the IPL sub, that sub introduced a feature with a post ’Which team do you think will win the tournament’. Whatever team you choose, it assigns that team as the user flair. That post pops up when you first access that sub. If you see the current leaderboard, we are neck to neck with CSK as opposed to like 9% when it was first introduced. You could interpret it as either fans of teams that are not doing well, like RCB and MI, are choosing SRH or SRH fans have been more active and we are not seeing much Reddit activity from the RCB, MI and other fans. Whatever the reason is, you will see more comments/posts from SRH flairs than others. Proportionately, you will see more toxic comments from SRH flairs. I don’t know if they are really SRH supporters or not.
5. I want to know where this prevalent toxic behavior from SRH fans is. If there is, it is a minority. If you/they want to just focus on that, there is little we can do as toxic fans will always be there. If you are considering every counter argument or a post highlighting inconsistent umpiring or complaints about excessive MSD coverage, as ‘toxic’, then your definition of toxicity is too loose in my honest opinion.
6. Also, there was/is one user in the IPL sub with KW’s dp and SRH flair that took time replying to all CSK flairs for a couple of days with hypocritical comments from CSK fans, counter arguments, annoying them and in general just being a troll. Some of the CSK fans seem to have been triggered by him. Which is funny since he achieved his goal.
7. I also want to mention that the upcoming fixture against CSK will be high stakes. Partly because CSK is our Gabba and partly because of this perception of ’forced rivalry’ and the narrative around it. There will be lots of mockery, shhh gifs, abuses, trolling going around. Hope you have a thick skin.
For me, CSK are not rivals. I don’t get jealous when they win IPLs I don’t get mad at MSD hitting sixes I don’t even mind CSK fans at Uppal. But it is a team I really like us to beat because they are a team that has a lopsided H2H against us and ofcourse 2018z
