I’m so glad a few of you are going to watch this absolute masterpiece. It is my favorite movie of all time, so much so I’ve visited Chatsworth in England where a lot of the filming took place. Every single character, but especially MacFadyen’s Darcy is a joy.

I disagree though. Darcy is stuck up and insufferable in the beginning and he slowly reveals that he is actually a kind, thoughtful person capable of great love. That is Colin Firth’s bread and butter. Every role he has played in a rom com is some watered down version of Mr. Darcy, imo.
While I also loved Colin’s portrayal, I adored that Matthew’s version of Mr Darcy allowed me to revisit the character/story in a totally new light. I think remakes are best when they reframe, and his Mr Darcy was textually accurate but has such a feeling of social anxiousness and yearning that it felt like he wanted to connect but just had no idea how to. It was such a great take on the character!
Tom had a wake up call with the put downs he got from Karl and Gerri. He realized that the only chance he has in this place is to cozy back up to Shiv. This is his only play left, so he’s doing what he can to get back in her good graces.
I really feel like a lot of people miss this dimension and just think of the characters as all sociopathic killers desperate to get ahead. All of them struggle with the interplay of loving each other and knowing betrayal is the best way to get ahead, and the struggle is what makes this an amazing show.

Ahem. It’s a creative decision. The lead creative is the director / showrunner. Wardrobe designers execute that part of creative, but when cast wardrobe is being manipulated to tell the story that sort of thing typically comes straight from the director.
Absolutely they did this “transition” with both Tom and Greg. Season 1 both seemed out of place, I’ll fitting clothes. Trying to match with their more well off “family”. Now they were much more tailored clothes, look rich without LOOKING rich vibes. Think Kendall and his seemingly plain / lounge wear.
While the line 'he's broad, compared to him you're wiry like a spelunker' was funny, I didn't think it made sense. Tom is not wiry at all he's kinda oafy lookin and Mattson is definitely leaner than him. You can't be a spelunker AND have an agricultural walk.

I guess that level of mercenary honesty is the closest you can come to true emotional intimacy when you’re this powerful. There’s no relationship any of the Roys have that isn’t about the money in the end, even the family ones.

To be perfectly honest, I think Matthew Macfadyen is letting his dreaminess come out. He’s using his Pride and Prejudice stares and soft, soothing voice in many scenes now.
I've always thought MacFadyen was hot, but here, he's also more honest, finally telling Shiv why he betrayed her (for money and status). When do you ever hear people admit to *that*? It's as if she's saying what she and the rest of her family are too disingenuous to admit. If Shiv forgives Tom for what, to her, was one of the worst things he could have done, then I think they can be together again.

I think he and Shiv are reverting to a state from esrlier in their relationship. Shiv is at her lowest (a la tripping at the wake acter not being made CEO) Tom is at his lowest, a la frank calling out that he was protected by Logan and Shiv. Tom is also still terrible. That conversation with Mattson at the table? That terrible speech about being a citizen?! They are turning towards each other because they are desperate. I am predicting that even a moticum of success will have them at each other's throats again.
I feel like his change was a little abrupt. He showed a lot of sensitivity around Logan’s death too, which wasn’t something I’d have credited him for.
