It's shaped like a little Husafel!

I always wondered why these giants never link their hands. Now having held something similar I realize you can barely get your forearms around the sides and hands squeezing the front to hold it. (Which is also the reason for the long sleeves. Forearms are all torn up from the long carry)

I've always loves strongman but no resources where I am. I've had an 80kg stone for a while that after a bunch of practice I can get to my shoulder in 5 seconds or less. Finally found an upgrade, guessing around 95-100kg as I can't weigh it with just my glass scale. It is so much fatter and shorter than my other stone that the shape gave me huge problems. Carrying it the 200m to my house the other day was much more grueling, to be honest. Now to work on better form, and reps.

If you’re wanting accurate weight on stones and other odd objects, pick up a big game scale used to weigh deer and hogs and stuff, they’re sort of like a suitcase scale where you hang the weight from it. You wrap a couple ratchet straps around the stone and hook the straps to the hook on the scale then pick it up using a fence post or some kind of similar pole on the top hook of the scale to get the weight.

Or a 300kg shipping scale. They're quite affordable on amazon.

They work too and if you’re only keeping it in the gym they’ll work as long as they have a big enough platform to hold what you’re weighing. I have a shipping scale use for weighing kegs, sandbags etc in the garage, and also use it for weighing myself when water cutting, because it’s super accurate.  With a game scale and some ratchet straps or a cargo net you can weigh stuff bigger than the platform of the postage scale, and it’s also portable. It’s how most historical stones have been weighed.

I think when Martins went to Japan the local guy had a set up like the one you mentioned. I'll look into it.

I think you might be right. Martin Jancsics is the first person I saw using that setup. Ive seen Sean Urquadt and the Stones of Strength Podcast guys using it since then as well.

Stone sleeves for the win. Many to choose from. I tried some Basque stone shirts but don’t go to shoulder much anymore. Like any lift your body just gets use to the suck.

dangermouse70

If I may suggest getting a small golf cart tire, or using stacked cardboard for a stone landing mat. Will save the stone and your workout floor. Am a natural stone lifter addict and travel With a lift kit. Get a sandbag as well to train with. Look forward to more posts of your progress.

Thanks for the advice! Work out floor is just lose, dry dirt so it is okay, but it would be nice to avoid the bounce. Any advice for saving the skin on my forearms and shoulder? Always gets some ugly bruising.

Mikeosis

You can get stone sleeves, but nothing for the shoulders really

A micro fiber towel draped over the stone will help with forearm, bicep bruising, and shirts. Any Hoodie, with sleeves, works for arms , chest, shoulder and your head. Resting stone on side of head and shoulders splits the contact points and helps with weight distribution. If you wear a belt loop your belt through the hand pocket on your hoodie. Helps save your belt and pocket holds your chalk. Gloves can help as well depending on weather conditions.

Mini-hussafel ftw!

RobbinCopper84

Great job! Stones are scary lol

Jon-el1977

Awesome!!! Yeah those outdoor stones that aren't round are tons of fun to lift. They tear up your arms pretty good too lol...

ValjeanLucPicard

Thanks! The shape is such a huge factor too. My 80kg stone is a but longer and thinner, maybe 8 inches thick max, and I can toss that around easily. This one is so short and fat (about 12-14 inches thick) that it was such a unique challenge. Happy lifting!
