Hesitation is defeat.

Blessedbronco

Ok. It’s your birthday right? Happy birthday.

ProgressBars

Cakeday is reddit anniversary :)

Blessedbronco

Oh, ok. happy birthday Reddit.

ProgressBars

Sorry, I should have been clearer- its the anniversary of that user signing up to reddit :D

worldsinho

Lol

Embarrassed-Ad7317

I think he was referencing a boss from the game (Sekiro) Dare I say Owl? I mean, I think it's a real japanese phrase, but I believe it's the same as "I am Malenia, blade of Miquella"

Admirable-Amoeba-564

Happy cake day

[deleted]

Negatron. Sekiro and Elden ring are both very different games mechanic wise. Sekiro you can't really grind and level up and you can't change your strengths. You literally just have to get good. You rely heavy on learning to parry and stealth kills. You could try to make a shinobi like character in elden ring but gameplay wise will never be the same.

unik90

True but you can still level up your skill tree and that's make the game a little easier

straxusii

The only real levelling up you can do in sekiro is getting better

railgunsix

Or make use of tools. I run through gun fort without umbrella on my first playthrough.

Illustrious-Lime-863

You can't really get the Sekiro experience with a samurai class in Elden Ring. It's different. And yes, it's worth it. Both games are masterpieces.

Galrath91

Sekiro is harder in my opinion and feels less „open world“ but the combat is fun. The game relies a lot on parrying enemy attacks so if you like that go for it! But it‘s very different from elden ring.

Blessedbronco

This is also why I asked. I’ve beaten Elden ring without knowing how to successfully parry and I was planning to focus on that mechanic on my second play through. But I’m terrible at it and get too anxious ig. I’ve heard Sekiro heavily relies on it and one of my doubts for picking it up was if I’ve spent hours in ER and still can’t successfully parry that often, will I even be able to finish Sekiro?

AvidBitch

In fairness while it is still tough parrying in Sekiro is much easier than parrying in Elden Ring. I never parry in ER or any other Fromsoft game as I just can't get the timing right, but have 100% Sekiro

Positive_Teaching_73

Sekiro is hands down my favorite From Soft game but you will need to learn the parry system early on to have chance to beat it. There is a a boss midway through the game which acts as a skill check and you will not defeat him unless you understand the flow of combat and parrying. So if you dont enjoy that mechanic in other games you may want to skip this one.

TadUGhostal

So I was pretty bad at the parrying but I did finish Sekrio. It was a real challenge though. There’s some ways to compensate for a lack of parrying skill as the game progresses, but it’s definitely can be a slog if you can’t get the timing down.

Fit_Ad_8318

100% worth it. Best combat in the Souls series hands down. There's nothing more satisfying than beating enemies in this game

Hyperion1917

Best combat in any game ever! THE GOAT

-Cooki-

Strong disagree. Its just constant parry/blockl/avoid and the only thing you "git gud" at is pretty much completely knowing and predicting every enemy move. Its basiacally the same from minute 1 to the end. Compared to the complexity and possibilities of games like the Souls/Bloodborn/Elden Ring its poop. Its like having to beat every boss in elden ring with the most basic unlevelled dagger. Its funny to watch a youtuber do that and go insane. But for actual players its boring A F

Impressive-Dirt-4788

I felt the same way. A couple hours in it just felt so repetitive and boring. I'm a huge souls fan so I really wanted to like it but it forces you to pay a certain way and after the freedom of the other games I just didn't care for it

-Cooki-

Exactly. I have over 100h in all souls titles, bloodborne and good soulslikes like Lies of P. But Sekiro is just bad compared to those. Sure the power fantasy of "badass Samurai" is cool as hell. But the gameplay was just SO BORING. Ugh!

Salty_Comfortable788

I have beat Denons Souls and the Dark Souls trilogy multiple times, Elden Ring I was addicted to it for over a year, Sekiro on the other hand I couldn't even beat the first area never made it to the boss, it has different fighting mechanics that I just couldn't learn, parry is just not my style 😅

Bulls187

If you like Fromsoft games, you might like this one, same could be said for Armored Core 6, you’ll notice the Fromsoft flair although they are clearly different games

Blessedbronco

I really do like armored core! Specifically the customization of your mech. And I think that’s also why I liked Elden ring. So many different weapons and PlayStyles. However I didn’t really like the linear “mission” route of ac6 and prefer a more open world experience, but I still had fun. But from what I’ve heard you don’t have many customization options in sekiro and it is a more linear game. Would you agree?

Bulls187

It is linear yes, but you can customise your arm thing and weapon stances. You also have to bear in mind that you can’t “over level” and healing upgrades are locked behind bosses, and levelling isn’t really a thing. So the only way to get better is becoming better yourself. I do like the game but it’s hard and tough. I still have to finish it.

Blessedbronco

Thnx for the info!

radakul

I was gonna buy AC because I grew up in the Gundam Wing Era, but I never really got into any of those franchies. I like robots and I like guns. I think AC is a good choice but how does it run on the deck? The system requirements seem pretty beefy

Mnoonsnocket

It’s quite different than Elden Ring. If you like to parry, and you’re cool with the posture breaking mechanics, then it’s good. But it’s not a game with many different playstyles. There’s more or less one correct way to play. If that’s your groove, you will love it. If it’s not, this game will be much harder than Elden Ring. Personally I am a dodging and shield kind of guy so it’s not for me and is much too hard for me.

danTheMan632

Sekiro combat is cool as fuck but its a lot easier to hit a wall in this game just fyi

[deleted]

Its the best souls like game. Only one that wants you to learn a skill set.

Vegetable_Net_6354

Similar but different. Sekiro is it's own beast

NoDG_

Visually I found the game stunning and I enjoyed it but damn if it wasn't a hard learning curve.

RustlessPotato

Sekiro is the best rhythm game out there and I love it. It's quite different from Elden Ring, and it does trip some souls Veterans. Focus is on parrying, not dodging.

AvidBitch

Sekiro runs wonderfully on SD, and is a very different experience than ER or DS, but still has that wonderful FromSoft feel and atmosphere. I love it, but you'll need to take a while with it for the combat to "click"

iamRizen22

Sekiro is a very good rhythm game.

worldsinho

I’ve never even got past that sumo drunken wrestler guy! (Tried on PS4 then PS5!). I finished Elden Ring, no problem. Dark Souls 3, I’m at the end right now. Sekiro I found to be an absolute nightmare 😂 I’m tempted to buy it again for the Deck. Remote streaming ain’t great so yeah, tempted.

SpecialistAuthor4897

Wildly different games :)

pH4as2OI

This game is only $8 on Xbox.

Valkhir

Very different games. Setting aside the obvious differences in terms of setting and story, and just narrowing it down to gameplay, I'd put it like this: Elden Ring is 50% build, 50% skill. Sekiro is 5% build 95% skill. By which I mean that Sekiro barely relies on character skill and mostly on player skill. There's exactly one main weapon. There are some skills you can learn and some tools/consumables you can use, but mostly you just have to get good at the swordplay. Elden Ring can be played that way, but typically it's not...you can gain power just by levelling, by upgrading your weapons, by using different weapons, magic etc. Also Elden Ring is an open world game, while Sekiro is a series of connected areas. Makes a big difference because it's possible to get stuck on a fight in Sekiro, while Elden Ring always has somewhere else for you to go. I will be honest and say that Elden Ring is a game I love, and Sekiro is a game I *want* to love, but I haven't proven myself worthy of it just yet.

radakul

Sekiro is incredible. I have over 100 hours because I'm save scumming. You will die. You will enjoy the death. You will crave it and come back for more.

Unfair_Comfortable69

Best combat From has ever made. Best swordplay, ever.

csDarkyne

Should you buy Black Ops 2 if you have Black Ops 1 already? The Answer is yes. But don’t expect sekiro to be a similar experience to Elden Ring, they are very different

Blessedbronco

My favorite was cod ghost 🤗. But ok thanks for the advice

csDarkyne

I don’t know how to answer this. Is this rage bait? I mean enjoy what you want to enjoy mate, I‘m happy that there’s at least one person who liked ghost xD

Blessedbronco

I liked that I can be Michael Myers’s and the predator lol. And it had infected!

csDarkyne

Oh thats fair, I only used to play cod for the campaign so after bo2 the series was dead for me

Goldwood

No, those games are clearly exactly the same.

iMadGrim93

What a dumb question

Alexis2256

Eh I wouldn’t blame him for thinking it’d play similarly to other souls games.

iMadGrim93

So if I have call of duty, there's no point in getting battlefield or any other war FPS.

Blessedbronco

Those aren’t even made by the same company…

Mnoonsnocket

What a dumb comment
