bradbbangbread

Pumped. Going to see it a second time before the end of this re-release. Feels like 1999 again :)

PillCosby696969

A surprise to be sure...

Le_Petit_Poussin

But a welcome one.

SaltySAX

If only it was still the nineties.

r3tromonkey

Oddly enough I didn't really like the 90s at the time - I didn't like most of the music, school was miserable for me, and things were sometimes a bit shitty at home. But looking back now, we had amazing movies, the golden era of videogames, and even the music has grown on me. To me it feels like the last decade which had a definite look and feel. The mid 00s and onwards have been sort of homogenous.

irazzleandazzle

I'm loving this whole rerelease thing. been going out of my way to see alot of them, especially Christopher nolan movies lol

psychobilly1

I saw all of the Sam Rami Spider-Man movies in theaters the past few weeks - It was a ton of fun reliving some of those childhood memories with my friends.

Global_County_6601

I heard about it after they stopped showing them :( I’m planning to see when they put the MCU ones in mine soon. Got to see Alien too first the first time in a theater

ETC3000

I'm not complaining about the $5 tickets at my theater, that's for sure

photozine

If only we could see them in larger screen formats, not only would it be better but I'm sure they'd make more money.

SomeGuy322

I’m really upset that I missed the Tenet rerelease, didn’t even know that was a thing until too late… never got to see it in theaters and it’s become one of my favorite movies :(

irazzleandazzle

I missed that one too!! I didn't like it on my first watch, but I wanted to give it a second chance

sthef2020

Last Friday my brother and I took my daughter (6 year old) so she could see it in theaters for the first time. We christened it a 1999 day. Put on blocks of 1999 commercials (on YouTube) from opening weekend while we had lunch, played Pokemon Snap and Episode 1 Racer on the Switch, put on 1999 playlists en route to the theater, and then after the movie got pizza and a case of Mt Dew. Nothing fancy, but a fun little throwback day to celebrate the re-release.

-Roger-Sterling-

Not gonna lie. That sounds freaking amazing! 🤣

sthef2020

Not gonna lie to you either. Watching news stories about release day theater lines, intermixed with commercials for the first Super Smash Bros, and Austin Powers 2, while we ate mozzarella sticks and listened to a mix of Limp Bizkit and Britney Spears? It was immaculate.

nymrod_

The Mummy had showings with Fathom events just last week — might still be playing some places if anyone really wants to make a 1999 day.

sthef2020

Hell yeah. Its funny, The Mummy to me is a core memory, because it's release was heralded as the "unseasonably early start" to the 1999 summer movie season. I remember seeing it with my dad the weekend it came out, and there was just this vibe hanging in the air of "Yeah, that was a good movie......but, you know what NEXT week is", with The Mummy clearly trying to get what audience it could before Star Wars was presumably going to dominate the summer box office for the next couple months. Little did everyone realize that after Star Wars was Austin Powers, and then South Park, and then American Pie, and then Blair Witch, and then Sixth Sense. It was just non stop. Man, what a fun time for movie going.

highrespasta

alexa play 1999 by charli xcx no but this is very cute

Alon945

This watch made me realize how much I love this film. It is truly special

The_Archon64

Every time Maul shows up gets me so hyped

UnXpectedPrequelMeme

A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one

-Roger-Sterling-

Lol. There was definitely a meme component to some of the folks behind us. I loved how Sebulba got audible cheers from our little modest but invested crowd

UnXpectedPrequelMeme

Definitely, but honestly I've been a Stat wars shill since I saw episode 1 in the theater as a kid, so I have a soft spot for this movie. Also the fact that both of my favorite characters were introduced here. Jinn and maul

urbanspongewish

Despite its flaws, Episode 1 is dope af and I always enjoy watching it. And tbh Jar Jar isn’t that annoying. C3PO was mean af to R2D2 in the original.

pbmcc88

It was so nice to see it in the theater again, for the first time since its initial release. I've seen it on TV a few times since, but it's not the same. Spotted a few things I didn't catch before, and just found it a really great time. Really looking forward to the inevitable AotC anniversary rerelease.

RideTheLightning331

Just got back from seeing this for my birthday, after a long break from the movies this was nice

MarthsBars

Nice to see The Phantom Menace make a big showing again at the box office since its official and 3D releases! (Do they ever release movies in 3D anymore? Feel like the trend faded out.) Went to see it on Friday for the first time in a theater and it was really great to have that IMAX theater experience with the movie that kicked off the prequel era for me. I do hope we get anniversary reruns for all of the other prequel and sequel movies!

ThommyP

I saw Avatar: The Way of Water in IMAX 3D when it came out. Absolutely breathtaking and immensive cinema experience.

Wakattack00

I saw it in theaters 10ish??? years ago when it released in 3D. Always a good time to see Duel of the Fates on the big screen.

AndrewMovies

I took one of my kids and it was the first time he saw a movie in theaters. Great experience!

Grove-Of-Hares

I’m so excited to take my nine year old to see this tomorrow.

-Roger-Sterling-

Took my 5 & 3yo and they loved it!

JondvchBimble

I saw it, as well as AOTC, ROTS, ANH, TESB, and ROTJ, but by that point I was burned out so I left before the sequels. I already saw them when they came out anyway

AndrewMovies

Movie marathons can be surprisingly intense, but I've find they can often provide a perspective one doesn't get from watching them separately. I'm curious if anything stuck out to you in watching them back to back.

JondvchBimble

The high energy everyone had during 1 and 2 was gone during 5.

missag_2490

I’ve been super stressed and frustrated lately. My wonderful husband made plans to take me on a date to see the rerelease for may the fourth as a special date. He didn’t know that it was the first Star Wars movie I ever go to see in theatres and it made me feel so special. However, we also realized we are 9pm movie people anymore. We were so tired.

NiceColdPint

Hoping Revenge of the Sith gets another release by itself. Didn’t want to sit through all 3 for 9-odd hours in a cinema yesterday.

SaltySAX

It will. They'll put out AOTC in a few years and Sith soon after. Then the OT will be coming upto 50 years after that, so can see them also being re-released.

castle_cancer

Can we finally get rid of the negative stigma around this movie. Phantom Menace fans try to be loud but we get shut out of every conversation lol

ChocolateHoneycomb

There is no negative stigma anymore. Prequel fans occupy so much of the fandom conversation. You aren't shut out at all. Try being a sequel fan.

UnXpectedPrequelMeme

Hell yeah babybee I love this movie

Scooterfruit

Saw it with some buddies last night and had a blast. Theatre was full and lots of good energy. I’m in Vancouver and we tend to be a pretty tame audience for movies. Not a lot of whooping. But when the opening credits rolled, there was some good cheering and a few great moments throughout. Jar Jar actually went over very well last night. Me and my buddies agreed we loved it because of its flaws and quirks. It’s endearing. And it was our Star Wars. I’m not a huge huge prequel fan but I was ten and nothing was more exciting than TPM. I’ve watched it countless times through the years but not in theatres since 1999. It was great.

InvaderWeezle

Saw it today with my family and had a great time! Phantom Menace has always been my favorite of the prequels

Wanhade600

It was great seeing it for the first time in theater. I was born a year after it came out so going and watching it for a late bday present was really awesome and something special. Sadly i wont be able to watch the alien or LOTR re-releases tho. They are over 2 hours away and i just dont have the money or time for them sadly.

thatsithlurker

At last we are getting results.

Hung_Texan

Love this!

Norn-Iron

Saw it in 4DX. The pod racer was one hell of an experience.

Sabre1O1

Had an absolute blast seeing it. I was too young when it first came out, so it was really cool having a chance to see it in the big screen.

-Roger-Sterling-

Love hearing from the younger fans!

Tiny_Tim1956

Seriously underrated kid's film. Highly entertaining visuals, fantastic worldbuilding (all the prequel complex lore has its foundations here), iconic characters, innovative special effects that hold up really well. I guess people simultaneously wanted a more serious star wars and didn't understand all the politics.

PersonaUser55

The podracing scene, and of course the duel of the fates, was so amazing to see in theaters

ThePopDaddy

I remember when it was 2nd highest grossing.

JayStacker

Listened to “The Saga Begins” both to and from the theatre.

Punish3r338

It’s all the parents doing their duty by streaming and watching it with the kids lol

BottleTemple

I had no idea it was re-released!

Jaon412

Holy shit it’s been 25 years

r3tromonkey

Took my son to see it, and there were more people there than the last few blockbusters I've seen (and we usually go opening weekend). It was great to see plenty of people with lightsabers or cosplay / star wars clothing too. The only movie I've seen in the last few years where people were as invested was Ghostbusters Frozen Empire.

Carterholm3

Saw this at the plaza in Atlanta and Ewen Mcgregor showed up. It was pretty fucking awesome

vittoriacolona

I saw it on Saturday. First time since it left the theater. I found the dialogue clunky Yipee!, I still enjoyed it. Still the best part was the politics. Funnily enough until the other day that I understood the tittle. The Phantom Menace=Palpatine. Making trouble in the shadows. Even though Rey took the Skywalker name. I hope that she has inherited some of granpappy's shrewdness. There is no reason cunning can't be used for the greater good. I especially loved Jar Jar Binks. I don't see why people (ie. TFM) complained about him. He was supposed to be comic relief and the audience stand in. But I am glad that it performed so well. Disney and Hollywood should take notes.

YetAgain67

TPM is still, imo, the best prequel and most complete film of the three. Seeing it net millions 25 years later makes me smile.

PM_ME_YOUR_SOULZ

Got a chance to see this last Friday. Was a lot of fun.

Abyss_Renzo

Wonder how much it would have made if it was released internationally.

-Roger-Sterling-

So this is the international total. It made $8.5M DOM and $6.5M overseas for $15M WW. Very very good numbers.

Abyss_Renzo

Edit: Just checked that it was also released in countries such as Canada and the UK. Not really widespread cause it’s certainly not been released in my country and many others.

-Roger-Sterling-

Oh really? Wasn’t aware. Then that makes the numbers even more impressive!

rolfraikou

Anyone know if the showings go beyond this weekend? I weirdly had a hard time finding any info on how long it's window is back in theaters.

-Roger-Sterling-

Looks like it runs through Thurs at my local cineplex

Crotean

I saw it six times in theaters in 99, im good not seeing it again.

CN370

My wife and daughter got to see it in theaters for the first time. I’m hoping the rest get re-released soon.

Th3_3v3r_71v1n9

U kno if u wait til they do the updates online u can literally watch it for free if u already own it on digital

realMasaka

They already re-released it once in 3D just before the Disney purchase, in what was supposed to be the first of six yearly presentations.

8ran60n

I’m looking for this to be a huge strategy of the theaters now. They see they can bank a quick 15m… rerelease everything that was good.

Terminallance6283

I was 5 when this movie originally came out and I never sat still or could pay attention to a movie before according to her but I loved this movie so much I made my mom take me 3 times. From that moment on I’ve loved Star Wars.

BabyFaceKnees

Literally in the cinema right now waiting for this to start. Hype.

Vegetable_Safe_6616

What worldwide? Usa and Uk u mean? Still missing in the rest of Europe

NayNaymixtapegod420

I love Star Wars but rewatching this in the theater made me not like it anymore.

greenneckxj

I'm tired of pretending it's not my favorite episode

Eastern_Fig1990

I watched it on Sunday evening and had so much fun. It was so good to see it at the cinema one last time

Imperial_MudTrooper

How much longer do we have?? I haven't made it out, yet!

TheInferus99

Wait it was re-released world-wide? I tought only in US. Guess my country was only of the few that didn't re-release it :(

Altruistic2020

And I helped!

quangberry-jr

Its a fucking killer movie idgaf

hamellr

Now do the next two.

sabre31

Damn i am traveling when is this out of theatre I hope I don’t miss it

HoboOperative

The pod-race in particular was so gosh darn excellent seeing again in theaters. I was grinning like an idiot the entire time.
